Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. — Psalm 62:5 NIV

I am a person of action, and when there is a problem, I am ready to take action, but sometimes I make the situation worse because I didn’t wait to get God’s plan. Being aggressive has many benefits, but it can also cause problems if we are acting independently of God.

I am reminded today of the importance of maintaining an attitude of waiting on God. I am not suggesting inactivity but rather the highest form of spiritual activity, that of trusting God in every area of life. Wait on Him for strength, healing, wisdom, and opportunity. Wait on God to reveal Himself to you and to show you His amazing favor. God is waiting to be good to us, and He looks for those who are waiting on Him (Isaiah 30:18).

Waiting on God is mostly an attitude of the heart. One that is fully aware that God is everything and we are nothing without Him. We should pray and refuse to take action without assurance that God is leading. Go to Him as early as possible each day, which is the moment you wake up. He is always near, and you need no special preparation to begin fellowshipping with Him. Always remember that God loves you unconditionally and is with you at all times.

Prayer Starter: Father God, I desire to form a habit of waiting on You all throughout the day. Help me not to rush ahead into activities and decisions without acknowledging You. Thank You for Your presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: He Rewards Even Little Things [Andrew Wommack Monday April 30, 2018]

Matthew 10:42, “And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.”

Text: Matthew 10:1-42, 11:1, Mark 6:7-13, Luke 9:1-6

This verse shows that even our smallest acts of kindness will be rewarded. As revealed in 1 Corinthians 3:13, every man’s work shall be tried to determine “what sort it is,” not what size it is. Many people who have never done anything to gain the attention of the masses will shine bright in the day when the Lord passes out His rewards.

Some of the Lord’s rewards for our actions come in this life, such as children, financial blessings, health, and many others. However, some of our rewards will not be realized until we stand before God. This is the case with the reward for enduring persecution.

Many of the rewards for ministering the Gospel will not come until we appear before the Lord. Rewards can be shared by those who aid others in their righteous tasks.

The ungodly who are not in the Kingdom of God will receive no rewards even though some of their actions might have been good. Rewards are only for those who have been cleansed from their evil deeds by the blood of the Lamb.

Regardless of what these rewards shall be, there will not be any exalting of self over others. “For who maketh thee to differ from another? And what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” (1 Cor. 4:7) The twenty-four elders in Revelation 4:10 are shown casting their crowns (which were rewards) down before the Lord and giving all their praise and worship to Him. It’s all because of Him. Thank Him today for His goodness.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. — 1 Peter 5:8

When I was in the hospital in Hawaii, I read again of the shocking events which led up to the destruction of the United States fleet at Pearl Harbor. On that fateful day of December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked. We know now that that attack was invited by our failure to be always vigilant. The result was the destruction of our fleet-the cause was tragic indifference. When comfort and ease and pleasure are put ahead of duty and conviction, progress is always set back.

What makes us Christians shrug our shoulders when we ought to be flexing our muscles? What makes us apathetic in a day when there are loads to lift, a world to be won, and captives to be set free? Why are so many bored, when the times demand action? Christ told us that in the last days there would be an insipid attitude toward life.

Prayer for the day: Take away the apathy, Father, that so often blinds my vision.

Topic: Be a Cheerful Giver [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Monday April 30, 2018]

Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (that is, He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver…. And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance. – 2 Corinthians 9:7-8, The Amplified Bible

Some people say you need to “give till it hurts.” Don’t you believe it. God doesn’t want gifts given in pain. He wants gifts given in joy! In fact, those are the only kinds of gifts that please Him.

That’s why He tacked His promise of abundance onto His command about cheerful giving. The two are connected.

Cheerful, full of faith, even hilarious giving—that is the key that unlocks the treasure house of God. Have you ever seen a group of people give that way? I have. I’ll never forget it. I was at a camp meeting years ago when offering time turned into a spontaneous, supernatural celebration. Ken was singing Bread Upon the Water, and the people were just dancing their way down the aisles to give their money. The joy in that place was glorious. Great healings and miracles were done that night.

But what stood out to me above all was how joyously and hilariously the people brought their offerings to God. The offering wasn’t extracted from them like a dentist extracts teeth. It was brought forth gladly.

The concept of “giving till it hurts” didn’t come from God. He’d rather you give 10 dollars with that kind of joy than 20 dollars grudgingly. In 2 Corinthians 8:11-12, the Apostle Paul urges the church in Corinth to give with eager willingness. Eager willingness. That’s what God looks for!

If you haven’t given that way in the past, make a firm commitment to start. Repent for the times you’ve given grudgingly. Then spend some serious time with God and His Word in your prayer closet, so when you give again, you can give from a willing heart.

Put the “pain” of giving behind. Become “a cheerful, (joyous, ‘prompt to do it’) giver,” and believe me, your blessings will abound!

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins. Ephesians 1:7

We found our visit to Christ Church Cathedral in Stone Town, Zanzibar, deeply moving, for it sits on the site of what was formerly the largest slave market in East Africa. The designers of this cathedral wanted to show through a physical symbol how the gospel breaks the chains of slavery. No longer would the location be a place of evil deeds and horrible atrocities, but of God’s embodied grace.

Those who built the cathedral wanted to express how Jesus’s death on the cross provides freedom from sin—that which the apostle Paul speaks of in his letter to the church at Ephesus: “In him we have redemption through his blood” (Ephesians 1:7). Here the word redemption points to the Old Testament’s notion of the marketplace, with someone buying back a person or item. Jesus buys back a person from a life of slavery to sin and wrongdoing.

In Paul’s opening words in this letter (vv. 3–14), he bubbles over with joy at the thought of his freedom in Christ. He points, in layer after layer of praise, to God’s work of grace for us through Jesus’s death, which sets us free from the cords of sin. No longer do we need to be slaves to sin, for we are set free to live for God and His glory.

Prayer: Lord God, through the death of Your Son, You have given us life forever. Help me to share this gift of grace with someone today.

Jesus redeems us from the slavery of sin.

Text: Nehemiah 3:1-5 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel” (Nehemiah 3:1).

MESSAGE:

A United States of America’s ex-president once remarked: “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character give him power”. It is either such power intoxicates and does more harm than good or it is wisely applied for the greatest good of the greatest number.

Nehemiah worked in Shushan as a personal assistant to the king of the vast Medo-persian Empire. When he heard that the wall of Jerusalem was broken down, he was very sad and wanted to do something about it. He obtained permission from the king and proceeded to Jerusalem to be personally involved in the work. Jerusalem was a large city with an equally vast network of roads. In times of peace, the city gates were a scene of series of activities especially with the fish market right by the gate.

The volume of work required that everyone was to be involved. However, the Tekoites were not committed to the great work; they were wilfully indifferent. They watched their colleagues work tirelessly to rebuild the walls but preferred to be indifferent about the building of the wall. Are there not such people in the nation, church and family who prefer to do nothing while others are at their duty posts?

The Scripture enjoins that “whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might”. There is work for everyone in the church or even in the nation. Idle hands, who watch while others work, may in the end discover that they were not wise after all. For those of us who work for God, it is certain that our work for the Lord will be rewarded in due time (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Thought For The Day: The way you see life is more important than the way life sees you.

I heard a story from the mouth of God’s Servant, Pastor E. A. Adeboye of a man whose car was snatched by armed robbers on the expressway. The man stood on the roadside and began to dance. When people met him, they thought that he had run mad. When they asked him why he was dancing, he said, “I am dancing because they took my car and not my life; there are some people whose cars and lives were both taken by the robbers. The second reason I am dancing is that I am not the one who stole; I am not a thief. I am also dancing because I have something someone could steal; there are people that do not have anything worth stealing.”

Can you see such a mind-set? Other people may see calamity out of the whole episode but this man saw prosperity. If, for instance you complain that you woke up late today, what about people who did not wake up at all?

Thomas Edison tried to invent the electric bulb one thousand times but could not get it, then someone told him that he failed one thousand times in trying to invent the electric bulb. He told the person that he did not fail one thousand times but he only discovered one thousand ways in which the electric bulb could not be invented.

Beloved, I like you to always have a positive view of life; see life differently from the way it is. The way you see life is more important than the way life sees you.

Remember this: The way you see life is more important than the way life sees you.

Assignments:
1. Develop a positive mind-set towards life.
2. Give a positive interpretation to every negative situation. Always have a positive view of every situation of life no matter how negative.

MESSAGE:

Pride and anger are very terrible things that shouldn’t be allowed in the life of a child of God. An example of someone who pride and anger almost destroyed is Naaman, Pride is a terrible thing; it is a blindfold that veils the mind of its host. Naaman could have died a leper if not for his servant who advised him correctly.

Approach is important in communication. You may have a good idea, but if it is not presented well, your idea may not be taken seriously. Do your ideas in class always get turned down by the teacher? Do your friends often reject your suggestions? Maybe it is time to choose a better approach to presenting your ideas.

When presenting an idea or a suggestion, never be too forward or aggressive. Whatever it is you are presenting, do it with humility and not with the intention to put anybody down in any way. Make sure that you know quite much about what you are talking about. And once you are done, always thank the person you presented the idea to for his/her time.

Key Point: Approach is a platter on which ideas are served. If it is enticing, the idea will be accepted. But if it is repelling, no matter the idea on it, it will be rejected.
