Basic Scriptures: Luke 5:17-26

Faith is the most powerful and creative force in the whole universe. Faith is something that can be seen, and until your faith is seen, it may not produce the results that you desire. Verse 20 of today’s scripture says, “When He saw their faith, He said……….” He said! He said! He said! He spoke! The only thing that provokes Jesus to speak victory over your situation is seeing your faith.

How do you show your faith! With your words and with your action.When your faith speaks, your faith is HEARD. When your words and with your actions (as we can see in today’s scripture), your faith is seen. If the enemy cannot stop you from showing your faith, he cannot stop your miracle. It took boldness and determination for those men to bring the sick man to Jesus. They had to tear off the roof. They refused to be discouraged by the crowd.

They took a risk! Yes THEY INTERRUPTED THE CRUSADE! But Jesus did not get angry at them. He did not call them disrespectful! Rather, He SAW their faith, and he told the sick man, “Your sins are forgiven you.” I love the words of Ella Wilcox, “There is no chance, no destiny, no fate that can circumvent, or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.”

Determine to hold on to your God and determine to hold out till your glory comes! Amen!

Topic: You Can Be Brave [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Thursday April 12, 2018]

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of a sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. — 2 Timothy 1:7

Brave: Courageous; bold; daring; intrepid; fearless of danger; as a brave warrior.

The only way to conquer fear is to confront it and to do the thing you are afraid of. If you don’t, you will be a prisoner all your life.

When we do confront things, we always and that the worst part of the fear was in our minds, and the reality of the thing wasn’t as bad as we had imagined.

If you truly want to be free, understand that facing a fear is better than being afraid all your life. Fear is a terrible burden to live with.

Bravery to overcome life’s fears comes when you ask God for His help, trust He is with you, and face that fear head-on.

Prayer Starter: Father, Your Word tells me to “fear not.” Help me today to place my trust in You and face the fears that are holding me back. Help me to step out…even if I have to “do it afraid.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Read: Jonah 3:1-10 (KJV)

1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

MESSAGE:

The Lord’s decision to make us His witnesses is a divine set up for blessings, just like when He asks us to give to Him, in spite of the fact that He owns everything (Psalm 50:9-11). In the same vein, the Lord does not need our publicity, just as the sun does not need to be announced. When the sun rises in the east, it is seen as far away as the west, and we know Jesus is the Sun of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2). It is an honour to be a witness of the Sun of Righteousness, because by virtue of this status, the world will see the grace of God upon our lives. When Elisha agreed to abandon his farming business to become Yahweh’s prophet, little did he know that the king would later refer to him as “my father” (1 Kings 19:19-21, 2 Kings 13:14).

What are the characteristics and responsibilities of Christ’s witnesses? The Lord hints us on some of these in Mark 16:15-18:

“15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

The primary character of the Lord’s witnesses is that they follow Him sincerely, and their primary responsibility is preaching the gospel. This responsibility is even more serious than what was committed to Jonah, because a very high price has now been paid for the redemption of mankind, which must not be allowed to go to waste. Another responsibility is to cast out devils. If we will take territories for the kingdom of our God, we must be ready to cast out the demons that currently reign over such territories. Speaking in tongues enables every witness of Jesus Christ to be an effective mouthpiece of God with man and mouthpiece of man with God in the place of intercessory prayer. Taking up serpents as referenced in Mark 16:18 could mean dealing with serpents that come in human clothing, deceiving people just like the old serpent did. The Lord’s witnesses must challenge such lies with the Master’s true message. When we do all these as witnesses of Jesus, souls shall be rescued from eternal damnation. This is our joy and goal. Are you an effective witness of Jesus?

Prayer Point: Father, please make me an effective witness of Your Son from now onward in Jesus’ Name.

MESSAGE:

When it comes to our relationship with God, worship is a very important and a key part of it. Worship is the adoration, respect or admiration that we give God through our prayers, songs or the state of our hearts. One of the most common forms of worship is by singing songs to God that shows our love to Him, our adoration of His name and of His great works. Moments of true worship are one of the purest for a child of God, because in that time of worship, the world around you is shut out and you have a direct connection to the Heart of God.

A heart of worship is a heart of gratitude, of love and of trust in a God who saved your soul and has promised you a better life in eternity. Never underestimate the power of worship, as it is one of the fastest way to reach the heart of God and is one of the few ways to truly capture God’s attention.

Action Point: From today, set aside an hour every day to worship God from the bottom of your heart.

Topic: Can You Believe? [TREM’s Devotional Thursday April 12, 2018]

“I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” – Psalm 27:13 KJV

The Psalmist said he had almost fainted if he had not believed in order to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. In other words, David was saying in effect that God’s goodness is there. That God, who is a good God, has already released His goodness. However, he needed to do something in order to receive it. He needed to believe! God’s goodness is there! David’s challenge was that there were other things that were distracting him from experiencing this goodness. There were things that were trying to make him faint. He decided that he wasn’t going to faint. Rather, He decided to believe.

Child of God, can you believe? That is the question. If only you can believe, all things are possible (Mark 9:23). David made a choice to believe God’s goodness because God is always good. He is never the One withholding anything from us. When faith meets with the word of God, something happens. When there is a collision between believing and God’s word, miracles happen. That is why the word is very important in the Christian faith.

God literally puts everything in your court. It is not about Him. It is not about Him being able. He is able! He can do anything. In fact, He has done everything He needs to do. There is no problem without a solution with God. We may not have discovered the solution, but that doesn’t mean that He doesn’t have a solution. For every problem, even when it defiles man’s ability, God always has an answer. The critical thing is, “Can you believe?”

In Isaiah 53:1, the ancient prophet Isaiah draws our attention to the same question, “Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?” In other words, God is looking for anyone who can dare to believe His report. Who amongst you there can believe My report? The issue is not about the magnitude of your need. It is about the report you choose to believe.

Topic: Faith, Love, and Hope [Our Daily Bread 12 Thursday April, 2018]

Read: 1 Thessalonians 1:1–3, Bible in a Year: 1 Samuel 19–21; Luke 11:29–54

We always thank God for all of you. 1 Thessalonians 1:2

For ten years, my Aunt Kathy cared for her father (my grandfather) in her home. She cooked and cleaned for him when he was independent, and then took on the role of nurse when his health declined.

Her service is one modern example of the words of Paul who wrote to the Thessalonians that he thanked God for “your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 1:3).

My aunt served in faith and love. Her daily, consistent care was the result of her belief that God called her to this important work. Her labor was borne out of love for God and her father.

She also endured in hope. My grandfather was a very kind man, but it was difficult to watch him decline. She gave up time with family and friends, and limited travel to care for him. She was able to endure because of the hope that God would strengthen her each day, along with the hope of heaven that awaited my grandfather.

Whether it is caring for a relative, helping a neighbor, or volunteering your time, be encouraged as you do the work God has called you to do. Your labor can be a powerful testimony of faith, hope, and love.

Prayer: Lord, may I this day have eyes to see others’ needs, direction from You on any ways I might help, and the Spirit’s power to obey. May I live out the faith, love, and hope You’ve given to me.

The glory of life is to love, not to be loved; to give, not to get; to serve, not to be served.

Insight:

The Thessalonian church was a “model” church known for her “faith in God” (1 Thessalonians 1:7–8). The church was commended for her “faithful work, [her] loving deeds, and . . . enduring hope” (v. 3 nlt). This trilogy of faith, love, and hope is a mark of spiritual growth and maturity. The work God has called us to do is characterized by our love for God and our neighbor (Luke 10:27). To love is hard work, for it is something we have to learn to do. And we “have been taught by God to love each other” (1 Thessalonians 4:9). Paul aptly calls it a “labor of love” (1:3 esv, emphasis added). Highlighting Christ’s second coming at the end of each chapter (1:10; 2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23), Paul speaks of our “endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1:3). Speaking of this trilogy of “faith, love, and hope” elsewhere, Paul says, “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13 nlt).

Topic: Weapon of Praise [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Thursday April 12, 2018]

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. – Psalm 9:1-3

Never underestimate the importance of praise. It’s one of the most powerful spiritual weapons you have.

Praise is more than a pleasant song or a few uplifting words about God. It does something. It releases the very presence of God Himself. And, when the presence of God comes on the scene, your enemies are turned back. Sickness and disease can’t stay on your body. Poverty can’t stay in your house.

Even physical weariness has to flee when it’s faced with real joy-filled praise. I know that from experience. Years ago, when I first began conducting “Healing School,” I had a real battle with fatigue. I’d minister and lay my hands on the sick for so many hours at a time that by the time the meeting had ended, I was sometimes too physically weak even to close the service.

Then, in one particular meeting, I discovered the power of praise. I had just finished praying for those in the prayer line and, as usual, I was exhausted. But instead of rest, the Spirit of the Lord impressed on me that what I needed was to rejoice in the Lord. So, I did. I began to praise the Lord with my whole heart, mind and body. Do you know what happened? The tiredness left me. And I was energized with the presence of God!

The next time the devil tries to stifle your effectiveness, to drain you of the strength and wealth and victory that’s yours in Jesus, turn him back with that powerful weapon. Lift your hands and your voice and whole heart to God. Praise!
