Behold, here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find enjoyment in all the labor in which he labors under the sun during the few days of his life which God gives him—for this is his [allotted] reward. — Ecclesiastes 5:18

If we do the same thing over and over, sooner or later we’re going to get bored. We don’t have to wait for something nice to happen to us, we can be aggressive and do something nice for ourselves. For many of you, I know this is a new thought that may seem foreign and even unspiritual. But I can assure you that it is part of God’s plan. You can create variety, and it will keep your life more exciting.

I sat with my computer on my lap for about four hours this morning and then stopped for a while to do some other things I needed to do. When I went back to my writing, I decided to sit in a different part of the house just for variety. I chose a place that had plenty of light where I could look out the window. Simple little things like this cost nothing, but they are very valuable.

No day needs to be ordinary if we realize the gift God is giving us when He gives us another day to live and enjoy. An extraordinary attitude can quickly turn an ordinary day into an amazing adventure. Jesus said He came so that we might have and enjoy life (see John 10:10). If we refuse to enjoy it, then it’s no one’s fault but our own.

I would like to suggest that you take responsibility for your joy and never again give anyone else the job of keeping you happy. Add a little variety to your life—break up your routine, do something different, and so on. When you do, expect God to meet you and help make your ordinary…extraordinary!

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for Your unconditional love. Help me to receive Your love and see myself the way You see me. Please allow Your love to flow to me and through me to other people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: How Long? [Our Daily Bread 11 Wednesday April, 2018]

Read: Psalm 13, Bible in a Year: 1 Samuel 17–18; Luke 11:1–28

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? Psalm 13:1

In Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland, Alice asks, “How long is forever?” The White Rabbit responds, “Sometimes, just one second.”

That’s how time felt when my brother David suddenly died. The days leading to his memorial dragged on, intensifying the sense of loss and grief we felt. Every second seemed to last forever.

Another David echoed this sentiment, singing, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” (Psalm 13:1­–2). Four times in just two verses he asks God, “How long?” Sometimes the pains of life seem as though they will never end.

Into this heartache steps the presence and care of our heavenly Father. Like King David, we can honestly go to Him with our pain and loss, knowing that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). The psalmist discovered this as well, allowing his lament to move from a mournful minor key to a triumphant declaration: “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation” (Psalm 13:5).

In our seemingly endless moments of struggle, His unfailing love will carry us. We can rejoice in His salvation.

In times of pain and loss, the timeless God is our greatest comfort.

Insight:

Scholars disagree on the circumstances that prompted David to write Psalm 13. Some say that David’s enemy was Saul, who continually pursued David, seeking to kill him (v. 2). Others see the enemy as David’s son Absalom who conspired to drive David from the throne and take over as king (2 Samuel 15). Either way, the heartache David feels is real—driving him to God for help. David’s first response to these pressures is to complain about God’s seeming lack of response on his behalf, found in the repeated question “How long?” in Psalm 13:1–2. As David reflects on God’s past expressions of faithful love (v. 5), he finds reason to trust God even in his confusion and doubt. The closing note of praise (v. 6) expresses that trust—and anticipates God’s rescue.

When overwhelmed with the circumstances of life, do you find yourself wondering where God is? As you reflect on God’s faithfulness to you in the past it can remind you that He is worthy of your trust—even when you suffer and don’t know why. Bill Crowder

Topic: Worldly Cares Are Thorns [Andrew Wommack Wednesday April 11, 2018]

Luke 8:14, “And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.”

Text: Luke 8:5-14

This third type of ground is characteristic of a large part of the Body of Christ today. These are people who have received God’s Word, committed themselves to it to the degree that they are able to remain faithful in persecution, but because of being occupied with the affairs of this life, the Word sown in their heart is choked and no fruit is produced. Just as weeds in a garden will steal all of the nutrients and starve the plant, so the pleasures of this life, if we allow them to dominate our thinking, will stop the fruit that the Word would have produced.

Throughout history, the Church has always grown in size and strength during persecution. This is because during persecution we get our priorities straight. We realize our life is in Jesus (Jn. 14:6) and not in things (Lk. 12:15), and we focus all of our attention on the Lord. However, prosperity has been far more damaging to the Body of Christ for the exact reason stated here in this verse. God wants to bless His children with things (Ps. 35:27; Mt. 6:33), but a preoccupation with these things will choke God’s Word and make it unfruitful. If we would follow God’s formula for prosperity found in Matthew 6:19-34, we would have the Word bringing forth fruit and we’d enjoy the physical blessings of this life, too.

Notice Jesus said that no fruit was brought to perfection. This type of person will exhibit some fruit, but it will always be small and far short of what it should be. Do you feel frustrated because you are just getting by and are not really experiencing the abundant life that Jesus came to give? (Jn. 10:10) Examine your lifestyle and see if the cares of this life, deceitfulness of riches, or pleasures of this life could be choking God’s Word.

John Newton was a slave trader on the west coast of Africa. One day in a storm at sea he met Jesus Christ. He went back to England and became an Anglican clergyman. Topic: It’s Not Over Till It’s Over [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Wednesday April 11, 2018]

Withstand [the devil]; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace…will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strengthen and settle you. – 1 Peter 5:9-10, The Amplified Bible

No matter how long you’ve been living by faith, no matter how much you’ve learned about it, every once in a while you’re going to suffer a setback. You’re going to run into some circumstances that just don’t turn out the way you expect them to.

When that happens, remember this: Those setbacks are just temporary. You may have lost a battle, but you’re not going to lose the war. Just get up and go at it again.

“But I don’t understand it,” you say. “I did the best I could. I walked in all the truth I knew to walk in. Why didn’t I get the victory?”

Because there was something you didn’t know! It shouldn’t shock you too much that there are things you don’t know about the realm of the spirit. Ken and I have been in the ministry since 1967. We’ve spent untold hours in the Word. Yet it seems like the more we learn, the more we realize we don’t know.

So, when we get to a situation where we can’t seem to get victory we have to ask God for more wisdom. If you’ll look in 2 Samuel 21, you can see a time when King David had to do that. His country had been suffering from a famine for three years and David just didn’t understand it, so he inquired of the Lord. You know what the Lord told him? He told him the famine had come because of something Saul had done! Isn’t that amazing? Saul had been dead for years, yet what he’d put in motion in the realm of the spirit was still affecting his country.

David could have just given up when his usual confessions of faith and ways of praying didn’t drive out that famine, but he didn’t. He inquired of God for more wisdom. He used his temporary setback to cause him to seek more knowledge from God.

Follow his example! Overcome the habit of quitting because of temporary setbacks. Refuse to let them knock you out of the game. After all, this thing’s not over till it’s over. And the Bible says when it’s all over, you’ll have won. So just be steadfast in your faith. In the end your victory is guaranteed.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8 KJV

Stop thinking negative. Wake up in the morning, thinking good. Only good will knock at your door. The Bible tells us that only the sound of rejoicing shall be heard in the camp of the righteous. The sound of rejoicing is what you are entitled to. When a mailman knocks at your door with a mail that is not yours, you tell him wrong address. When the devil knocks at your door, you tell him “Hey, wrong address”. Whatever knocks at your door that is contrary to the will of God, wrong address! It is not for you.

Control your emotions by using the word of God. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4, 5 KJV). Don’t let your imagination run wild. Any form of imagination that is against your wellbeing is a vain imagination, and it must not be accepted. You belong to a different class. You belong to the class of champions and winners and class of the excellent. You must never allow negativism. Break loose from all kinds of negative emotions. Use God’s word. Declare the word over your life every day.

There is always a tendency to have negative emotions. It is part of life. However, God did not leave us without provisions to handle it. It is your responsibility to handle negative emotions with His provisions. His promises! Write them on your fridge. Paste them on your doors. Put it on your toilet doors. Continue to behold them so that you can be activated in the faith that God has given you.

Topic: The Tragedy of Fear [Seeds of Destiny Wednesday April 11, 2018]

Scripture: For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. Job 3:25

Thought For The Day: Fear is a magnet for evil just as faith is a magnet for good.

Previously, we established that there are deadly enemies that can cripple a person’s destiny. The lifestyle of disobedience was identified as a deadly enemy of destiny. Adam and Eve, by the lifestyle of disobedience got their destiny aborted.

Today, it is critical to know that another deadly enemy of destiny is the spirit of fear. This includes the fear of failure, the fear of the future, fear of the unknown, etc.

Now, what are the tragedies of living in fear?
i) Fear invites disaster
Fear is a magnet for evil just as faith is a magnet for good (Job 3:25).

ii) Fear frustrates mentality
A frightened person is a mentally incapacitated person; and you need your mind to fulfil your destiny and arrive at the future.

iii) Fear paralyzes action and initiative
For instance, if someone is told that he is HIV positive and he allows fear to set in, his actions could be paralyzed. He may not make any plan for his future anymore or take life seriously; rather, he may just be waiting to die. But that must not be!

iv) Fear equals faith in the wickedness of the devil and doubt in the faithfulness of God
Fear makes a person to exercise faith in the opposite direction, the direction of the wickedness of the devil, which equals disaster.

v) Fear paralyzes acceleration
When a person is frozen with fear, his progress in life and destiny is arrested.

Beloved, I counsel you to deal decisively with fear in order to fulfil your destiny.

Remember this: Fear is a magnet for evil just as faith is a magnet for good.

1. Go through our study today again.
2. Deal with the spirit of fear in your life decisively.

Prayer: O Lord, thank You for not giving me the spirit of fear. I reject every spirit and operation of fear in my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

MESSAGE:

Forgiveness is easier said than done, but this doesn’t mean that it cannot be done. As Christians we are expected to forgive others no matter how painful whatever it is that was done to us. To forgive involves removing any feelings of anger from your heart towards someone who did you wrong. It also involves making conscious decision to stop blaming such an individual for whatever it is that he/she did wrong. As a human being, there is no way you will not be offended in your interactions with fellow human beings. It is in the human nature to offend one another either knowingly or unknowingly. But it takes special grace from God to forgive and remove any feelings of bitterness from your heart.

Have you been offended by a friend, a member of your family or even someone you consider to be an enemy? Pray to your Father in Heaven and ask Him to give you the grace to forgive that person. Ask Him to remove any anger or bitterness from your heart and replace it with His love. This is the only way you can truly forgive.

Key Point: True forgiveness can only be done with the help of God.

Topic: Imperfect Vision [DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday April 11, 2018]

Text: Mark 8:22-26 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking” (Mark 8:24).

MESSAGE:

In his book, An Anthropologist on Mars, neurologist Oliver Sacks tells about Virgil, a man who had been blind from early childhood. When he was 50, Virgil underwent surgery and was given the right of sight. But as he and Dr. Sacks found out, having the physical capacity for sight is not the same as seeing. Virgil’s first experiences with sight were confusing. He was able to make out colours and movements. But arranging them into a coherent picture was more difficult. Over time, he learned to identify various objects, but his habits were still those of a blind man. Dr. Sacks assert, “one must die as a blind person to be born again as a seeing person…”

To truly see Jesus means a change of identity. Jesus came to the city of Bethsaida and immediately, they brought a blind man to Him. He took this man out of the town to perform a miracle of restoration on his blind eyes. After the first touch, the man could see but imperfectly – a clear indication that he needed a second touch. Jesus touched his eyes again and then came the full restoration of sight that the man and his neighbours desired.

The story shows us that sight does not always come instantly. In truth, God reveals Himself progressively. This miracle reveals the way God opens the eyes of the spiritually blind as He patiently works on them step by step, to bring them to the place of full comprehension after an era of profound blindness.

This is a good word for all of us who are praying for our loved ones who are away from the Lord. Don’t give up on them.

Thought For The Day: It sometimes needs Christ’s second touch to see clearly.

19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Bible in One Year: Joshua 18-19, 2 Thessalonians 1-2.

MESSAGE:

There are several ways of dealing with mountains, and today we will be considering seven of these. The first option we will consider is to turn back. You can say that because a mountain is blocking your way to success, you will no longer move forward. This was the negative attitude of the children of Israel in Numbers 14:1-4. The second way is to walk around the mountain, thereby wasting time and effort. For those who are born of God, going round a mountain is not an option. Our Father’s desire for us is to always move forward, in spite of what lies ahead of us. This is why he commanded Moses to charge the children of Israel to move forward, in spite of the Red Sea in front of them (Exodus 14:15). You will move forward today in Jesus’ Name. The third way of dealing with mountains is to climb them. This may require a lot of effort but it is still better than going round in circles, and it is far better than going back. The fourth way you can deal with a mountain is to bore through the mountain or dig a tunnel through it. When Moses lifted up his hands before the Red Sea, God caused the east wind to blow all through the night, and this created a way in the sea for the children of Israel to pass through (Exodus 14:21). Just as the east wind blew to create a road for the children of Israel through the sea, creating a tunnel through a mountain will require the assistance of the Holy Spirit. The fifth way to deal with a mountain is to blast it out of the way. In Joshua 6:20, when the children of Israel came face-to-face with the wall of Jericho, the Lord instructed them to shout. They did, and not did the wall fall, it was shattered and reduced to nothing. Indeed, God sent dynamite from heaven to blast the whole wall down. The sixth way we can deal with mountains is to relocate them. In Mark 11:22-23, the Lord says that if you have faith in God, you can command a mountain to change its position or get out of your way, and it will obey you.

The seventh way of dealing with mountains is to fly over them. In this scenario, although the mountain is still there, you Don’t want to turn back, neither do you want to walk around it, struggle to climb it or dig through it. Maybe you don’t want to blast it because you want to use it as a reference point in future, and you don’t even want to bother relocating it; all you want to do is to fly over it. According to Isaiah 40:31, the condition you need to fulfil for you to experience this great feat is to wait upon the Lord. Are you ready to wait upon the Lord? The good news is that this is the easiest way for you to deal with mountains, and it is at your disposal if only you can wait upon the Lord.

Action Point: To deal with any mountain before you, consider the seven ways of dealing with mountains we have discussed; choose an effective method from them and do what is required of you.
