Church memorial service to be held for victims of German van attack

German prosecutors have no indication why a 48-year-old man drove a van into a crowd of people in the western city of Munster, killing two and injuring 20 before shooting himself dead inside the van.

“As of now, we don’t have any leads regarding a possible background for the deed,” prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt wrote in a joint statement with police.

“The investigations are being led under high pressure in all possible directions.”

Authorities have identified the two fatalities of Saturday’s crash as a 51-year-old woman from Lueneburg County and a 65-year-old man from Broken County.

The city’s Roman Catholic bishop, Felix Glenn, invited all of Munster’s citizens to a joint Catholic-Lutheran memorial service at the famous Paulus Cathedral on Sunday night.

Local media have identified the perpetrator as a German industrial designer living in Munster who had been suffering from psychological problems, but police would not confirm the details.

All three bodies were taken from the scene in front of the well-known Kiepenkerl pub early on Sunday night.

The silver-grey van was hauled away hours later after explosives experts had thoroughly checked it.

“The van is not at the crime scene any more, all kinds of objects have also been removed, waste of course, as well as evidence that we’ve found on the ground,” police spokeswoman…

Christian charity providing emergency aid to Syria after poison gas attack

A poison gas attack on a rebel-held town near the Syrian capital has killed at least 40 people, according to activists, rescuers and medics.

The alleged attack in the town of Douma occurred on Saturday night amid a resumed offensive by Syrian government forces after the collapse of a truce.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 80 people were killed in Douma on Saturday, including around 40 who died from suffocation.

Opposition-linked first responders, known as the White Helmets, also reported the attack, saying entire families were found suffocated in their houses and shelters.

Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is sending emergency aid including food, medicine and shelter as well as pastoral help to families in Syria.

After visiting the war-torn country, John Pontifex from the charity, said: “The people of Syria have been living through unimaginable pain and suffering for the past seven years, as the conflict has caused terrible devastation.

ACN has completed 143 aid projects in Syria over the past 12 months.

Government forces resumed their offensive on rebel-held Douma on Friday afternoon after a 10-day truce collapsed over disagreement regarding the evacuation of opposition fighters.

Violence returned days after hundreds of opposition fighters and their relatives left Douma towards rebel-held areas in northern Syria. Douma is the…

Church to hold candlelight vigil for victims of deadly bus crash

Fifteen people were killed and 14 others injured when a lorry collided with a bus carrying a junior hockey team to a playoff game in western Canada, authorities have said.

The bus driving the Humboldt Broncos had 29 people on board, including the driver, when it crashed at about 5pm local time on Friday on Highway 35 in Saskatchewan, Canadian police said.

Head coach Darcy Haugan and team captain Logan Schatz are among the 15 dead, relatives said.

Three people are in critical condition.

Kelly Schatz, Logan’s father, said his 20-year-old son had played for the Broncos for just over four years and had served as team captain for the past two-and-a-half years.

“It’s hard,” Mr Schatz said.

Christina George-Haugan confirmed that her husband Darcy is among the dead.

Tributes poured in online for the father of two, who was described as an amazing mentor to young players.

Darren Opp, president of the Nipawin Hawks, who the Broncos were set to play against, said: “It’s a horrible accident, my God.”

The Broncos are a close-knit team from the small city of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, which has a population of about 6,000.

Many gathered at the community centre…

Vatican arrests diplomat accused of viewing child porn

A Vatican statement said that Monsignor Carlo Capella was being held in gendarmerie barracks inside the Vatican, and that his arrest follows a Vatican investigation.

Police in Windsor, Ontario, said Capella allegedly uploaded child porn from a social networking site while visiting a place of worship from over the 2016 Christmas holiday.

In the statement, Windsor police accused Capella of accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography.

The Vatican recalled Capella, the number four in its Washington embassy, after the US State Department notified it on August 21 of a “possible violation of laws relating to child pornography images” by one of its diplomats in Washington.

Capella was a high-ranking priest in the Vatican’s diplomatic corps.

He served on the Italy desk in the Vatican’s secretariat of state and was part of the official delegation that negotiated a tax treaty with Italy before being posted to the US embassy last year.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 8 April 2018 Devotional — Cast Your Care

Topic: Cast Your Care [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday April 8, 2018]

No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God’s nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. — 1 John 3:9 (AMPC)

You can pray about everything and worry about nothing. When you worry, it says you think you can solve your own problems better than God can. But you were not built to handle problems in your own strength. You were created by God to be dependent upon Him; so bring Him your challenges in life and allow Him to help you with them.

Can you imagine your life without worry? Why not start today to live a worry-free life? Ask the Lord to show you every time you are taking on care instead of casting it off. When He makes you aware of it, be willing to immediately cast it on Him—you will enjoy life so much more. After a period of time, you will actually find it difficult to worry! It just won’t suit you any longer.

Prayer Starter: Father God, You are my One and Only source of peace. Right now, I commit to you all of my worries and concerns—big and small. They are too much for me, but they are not too difficult for You. Help me to trust You more and more. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Our Daily Manna ODM devotional 8 April 2018 — Henry Theiry: I Am Not The Referee!

Topic: Henry Theiry: I Am Not The Referee! [Our Daily Manna ODM Sunday, April 8, 2018]

Basic Scriptures: Romans 8:26-39

In a football match, the job of the referee or umpire is to make sure that the match is played according to the rules of the game- Football. If anything is done by any one of the players that violates the rules of the game, the umpire blows his whistled and gives a card to the defaulting player. Sometimes, referees and umpires make mistakes and fail. Years ago, during one of the qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup between France and Ireland, popular French footballer, Theiry Henry, handled the ball and stopped it with his hands; and the passed it on to fellow teammate William Galas who then scored a goal.

The referee did not disqualify the goal. Everyone on the Irish team was shocked! Later when someone went to accuse Henry of cheating, here is what he said, “It was handball, but I am not the referee.” Wow! In other words, men can make mistakes that can cost you a fortune, but when you have God as the Referee or Umpire of your life, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR! He will never make a call that will put you at a loss. He is Referee that can never fail.

In fact, He is a Referee that is ON YOUR SIDE! Yes, in this game of life, Jehovah your God, is BIASED in your favor because FAVOR IS NOT FAIR! And if God be for you, WHO and WHAT can be against you! NOTHING and NOBODY! All things will work in your favor! He is not just your Referee, he is also your Coach. That is why the spirit of God is saying to you today, that in these remaining days of 2018, YOUR VICTORY IS CERTAIN. YOU CANNOT BE DEFEATED; The Referee is on your side!

Prayer Points: Take Song 5: When the morning comes.

1. In your own words, pray about today’s word as led.

2. I cannot fail on this PLANET! My God is the REFEREE of this game of life! He is on my side and I can never lose in Jesus name.

3. Every referee that has been assigned by hell to make sure that I fail, I RELEASE PARALYSIS AND DISAPPOINTMENT UPON YOU TODAY, in Jesus name (Pray it very, very well).

4. I reject and cancel every plot of fraud, deceit and injustice against me; it will not stand in Jesus name.

5. Turn Isaiah 54:17 into prayers. No Weapon Fashioned Against Me Shall Prosper.

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Sunday, 8 April 2018 – Appreciate Christ’s Love

TOPIC: Appreciate Christ’s Love (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Sunday, 8 April 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 3:13-18

MEMORY VERSE:
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” – Matthew 22:37

The MESSAGE:

The portion of the Scripture for today is an exposition on Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews who came to him in the night. Jesus’ answers to his questions revealed to us that He is the son of man who came from heaven and was crucified on the cross. Whoever looks up to Jesus and believes in Him will not perish. He will receive eternal and spiritual life. On the contrary, whoever fails to believe in Him is condemned already. Also, the greatest promise ever made to mankind (John 3:16) as well as the most well-known verse in the New Testament forms part of the Bible reading. It is important that you know this important verse of the Bible.

God loves you so much that He gave you Jesus, who died and resurrected to reconcile you to God. This love of Christ is so great that it should compel you to live for Him and only Him; it should move you to act according to His will.

You can show that you appreciate Christ’s love by giving God your heart. When you give your life to Jesus, He will come to live in your heart. In addition, you can show that you love God by giving Him your:
1. Hands: Your hands are important to carry the healing power of God to those who are sick.
2. Legs: Your legs are the vehicle to carry the gospel to the unsaved.
3. Voice: God needs your voice to sing His praises, preach the gospel, command demons to flee and speak with new tongues.
4. Brain: God needs your brain to confound those who think they are wise.
5. Time: God needs you to use your time for Him, whether it is convenient for you or not.
6. Money: Your money is needed to fund the work of God.

In conclusion, God wants the totality of your love for Him. If you have a total love for God, you will easily give Him all the things listed above. Remember, you can give without loving, but you can’t love without giving.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Your authority or rank in heaven is proportional to the measure of your love for Jesus, because in the whole of heaven and earth, Jesus is the focus.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your heart’s desire will be to love God more and more.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. O Lord, I set myself aside for You, in the name of Jesus.
2. O Lord, use me to affect my generation positively, in the name of Jesus.
3. Father, ignite my cold love with Your fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Holy fervency, come upon me, in the name of Jesus.
5. O Lord, empower me to know You deeper, in the name of Jesus.
6. My Father, give me the wisdom to be Your true servant, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord, help me to exhibit love in my thoughts, words and actions, in the name of Jesus.

Keys to divine direction! By David Oyedepo

Topic: Keys to divine direction!

Welcome to this new week of great things. I hope you were blessed by last week’s teaching. May God engrace us to access His plan for us this month! Today, we shall focus on Keys to Divine Direction! From scriptures, we understand that God is ready to guide our paths in life. It is written: And I will bring the blind by a way [that] they knew not; I will lead them in paths [that] they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them (Isaiah 42:16).

However, God does not just lead anybody on the earth. He leads only His sheep who are willing to be led (Isaiah 55:8).Therefore, there are certain conditions that must be met before we can be divinely directed; they are:

What then, are the keys to Divine Direction?

Be His Son: The first key is that we must be born again. We must be covenant children of God before He can lead us. As it is written: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). This implies that, for God to be committed to directing us, we must first be His children. (Romans 8:14). Thus, by accepting Jesus as our Lord and personal Saviour, we have secured the ticket for divine direction.

Meekness: We need a meek spirit to be guided and directed by God. David said in Psalm 25:9: The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. This means meekness of heart must be in place before God can show us His ways; which are higher than ours. The Bible describes Moses as the meekest man in the earth; as a result, he had access to the ways of God (Numbers 12:3; see also Psalm 103:7). Thus, there cannot be meekness without the fear of the Lord (Psalm 25:12).

Faith: We need faith to be directed by God. Paul said: For we walk by faith, not by sight: (2 Corinthians 5:7). Divine direction is not for those that walk by sight but for those who will trust God to lead them aright. It is faith that makes a man seek God for divine direction (Hebrews 11:6).

Fellowship with the Holy Spirit: A continuous fellowship with the Holy Spirit is another requirement that must be met if we desire divine direction. As it is written: But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things (1 John 2:20; see also John 16:13). The Holy Spirit is to show us the things to come but before He can do that, we must first have to know Him and enjoy communion with Him. We also have to be conscious of His indwelling presence in us because the Holy Spirit is a Person we can talk to, ask questions and seek His help.

Quietness: We need quietness to enjoy divine direction. Not just a quiet outer environment but much more a quiet spirit. Avoid a rowdy spirit for God is a Spirit and He communicates with our Spirit. The Bible says: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Since our fellowship with God is in the spirit, we need to create quietness around us so that we can have a sweet fellowship with the Father where He can instruct us in the way to go (Isaiah 30:15).

Walk in Love: This is a condition in which we live without malice, anger and being relaxed with others, by loving them unconditionally. We also need to embrace liberty of the spirit and one of its manifestations is walking in love. As it is written: Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). Our conscience must be free from all manner of entanglements; including disobedience which quenches the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19).

Be Open: We need openness of heart for divine direction. This connotes, we should not be set or rest in our own ways like concrete. We must be willing to adjust to God’s instructions; even if they contradict our actions. (Matthew 18:3-4). Therefore, we should keep a sensitive and tender heart before God as we allow Him direct our paths, because He knows everything better than us ((2 Chronicles 16:9;Proverbs 16:9).

Worship/Praise: If we must enjoy constant direction, then praise must become our lifestyle. As it is written: But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel (Psalm 22:3). Thus, His voice of direction will come clearly to us when we give Him the praises that His heart loves.

In conclusion, these keys will manifest in your life if you are born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus, for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”

Teens’ Open Heavens 8 April 2018 – Look Up To Jesus Only

Topic: Look Up To Jesus Only [Teens’ Open Heavens 8, April 2018]

Memorise: And He said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

Read: Luke 9:23-26 (KJV)

23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.

Bible In One Year: Ruth 1-4, Luke 11:29-54

MESSAGE:

Besides prosperity and comfort, another thing that can divert your attention while running the race is resting before you reach your goal. Your goal is Heaven, but while we are still here on earth we have no resting place. The wise men of Matthew 2:1-16 kept on travelling for a period of two years following the stars. Some time to rest would have been appealing to them, but because they had to reach their goal, and the star they were following kept on moving, they also kept on moving for that whole period. If they had called for a rest, they would have missed their trail. Why are you declaring a rest when you have not reached your goal? Calling for rest before its time will always lead the fellow into trouble.

Moreover, another diversion from the race is taking your eyes off the star which is your guide; Jesus Christ. Look up to Jesus only. When you look up to Jesus, He will never fail you.

Key Point: If your leader is a bad example, pray for him, but look up to Jesus. Jesus is God’s standard.

Hymn 1:

1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire !

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

Daily Devotional for Teen’s guide was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of the largest evangelical church in the world and also the President of Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries.
