Storm Reid, the budding Christian actress who’s starring in the Disney film “A Wrinkle in Time,” is receiving support from one of the largest megachurches in the United States.
Reid, 14, visited Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, last week where she shared her journey in faith with the congregation led by Pastor Joel Osteen. Associate Pastor John Gray was on hand to moderate a Q&A with Reid and asked her how she’s able to maintain her faith while pursuing her dreams in Hollywood.
“My life is centered around God and faith. I wear a mustard seed every day,” Reid told Gray and the congregation at Lakewood Church. “I don’t know if I’ll be acting in five years and I don’t even know if I’ll be in L.A. in five years. But I know if I have faith in a mustard seed that God will move mountains, and I know the best is yet to come.”
With Reid standing by his side, the pastor urged people to support her and said he was praying they would do so by going to the theater to see “A Wrinkle in Time.”

A divinity School professor known for her scholarship on the prosperity gospel is explaining why the notion that “everything happens for a reason” and other Christian-sounding phrases prove futile.
In an interview with Brian Lamb on C-SPAN’s Q&A in February, Kate Bowler, a professor at Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina, discussed her new memoir Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I Loved, said the book’s title came from “boomerang theology” that people tossed around in an attempt to comfort her when she was diagnosed with cancer.
Two years ago, at age 35, Bowler was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer, an “incurable” kind which eventually spread to her liver. She wrote the book as a sort of “theological excavation project,” she said, wherein she explored the possibility that perhaps the often tossed around phrase that “everything happens for a reason” and other Christian-sounding clichés were lies she believed all along.
Bowler is also the author of the 2013 book, Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel.
During the hourlong interview, Lamb asked Bowler about the words and practices of infamous prosperity preachers like Mike Murdock and Benny Hinn, as well as other popular ministers like T.D. Jakes and Rick Warren. Footage was also shown of Hinn praying for a woman who was suffering with cancer. He prayed in such a way that led viewers to think she was totally healed afterward.

Over 1,000 Muslims are still hiding inside a Roman Catholic Church at a compound in Bangassou, Central African Republic, fearful that a hostile militia will kill them. While some media reports say the militia is mostly made up of Christians, Catholic sources are disputing that claim.
Catholic pastoral charity Aid to the Church in Need, which has been in contact with the church in Bangassou, told The Christian Post in an email on Thursday that numerous media reports that describe the anti-balaka as “Christians” are off the mark.
“To call the anti-balaka a Christian militia, as is often done, is a mistake. Our partners in the field told us several times that there is not much about them that is Christian. They carry fetishes and amulets for protection. The conflict is between Muslims and non-Muslims, the many followers of traditional religions and non-Christian sects,” said Maria Lozano, communications manager at Aid to the Church in Need International.
Lozano told CP that Seleka and Muslim rebels from Sudan and Chad have destroyed and attacked the homes of both Christian and Muslim communities.

Labour MP Stella Creasy, who led the campaign to drop the charge for abortions, has created a cross-party group of politicians urging for the government to provide the same level of access in Northern Ireland as there is across the rest of the UK.
Currently, an abortion in Northern Ireland is allowed only if a woman’s life is at risk or there is a serious or permanent risk to her mental health.
Creasy wrote a letter to Home Secretary Amber Rudd this week urging the government to overrule current laws on abortion in Northern Ireland.
It came as new research shows there has been a 14 per cent rise in women from Northern Ireland having free NHS abortions in England since charges were abolished by the government last June.
Tim Martin director of CARE in Northern Ireland said abortion is an issue that is strictly devolved to Northern Ireland and should be treated as such.
He added: “This is a clear example of the principle of devolution being severely compromised.
“That Westminster would consider overruling the view of the democratically elected Northern Ireland Assembly to impose contentious laws should ring alarm bells for Scotland and Wales too.”
CARE said the letter seems to rest on a report by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) that found that Northern Ireland’s abortion laws “breaches Northern Irish…
