Christian actor Dennis Quaid recently appeared on the Today Show to talk about his role in the new movie I Can Only Imagine, which is based on the popular MercyMe song of the same title.

I Can Only Imagine tells the story of how MercyMe frontman Bart Millard came to write the song which became not only a hit on Christian radio, but a cross-over chart-topper.

Millard grew up with an abusive father who ultimately experiences redemption. It was often music that got Bart through his darkest days.

Talking to Today Show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, Quaid, who has previously been a part of the faith-based film Soul Surfer, said he was drawn to the film because of its redemptive element, even though he hadn’t been familiar with the song before he was offered the part.

“It hit me so profoundly,” he said. “I wanted to be a part of this.”

“I think each person makes it about their own personal life…and that’s what’s so beautiful about it. And hopefully we’ve accomplished the same thing in the movie.”

“It’s not a Hollywood redemption story,” he continued.

I Can Only Imagine will be in theaters next week, March 16, 2018.

Pastor David Jeremiah, Precept Ministries founder Kay Arthur, and a Holocaust survivor took the stage at Proclaim 18, the National Religious Broadcasters’ International Christian Media Convention, to celebrate the modern state of Israel and encourage Christians worldwide to unite in support of the Holy Land.

During the session in Nashville attended by The Christian Post, Polish-born Luna Fuss-Kaufman first recalled how World War II broke out when she was just 12 years old — yet her family refused to go into hiding.

“I personally believed that if I was a Jew I wasn’t going to deny it,” Fuss-Kaufman said. “Even so, I was quite young at the time, and it wasn’t exactly the most practical thing to do, but that’s how I felt.”

It wasn’t long before her family was incarcerated in several camps, the first of which was depicted in the film “Schindler’s List,” she said. Then, her family was shipped to work in a factory in Germany.

A Maryland church gave five used cars to raffle winners at the church this past weekend.

Destiny Church, founded in 2011, gave away one car to a family on Saturday and then raffled off four more cars at the end of worship services on Sunday.

The giveaways were part of the church’s celebration of their grand opening of the church’s worship space. The church had been gathering at a high school gym.

“One of our founding values as a church is that ‘We Are Outrageously Generous,’ and we strive to live that out in everything we do,” said Stephen Chandler, senior pastor for the church.

“We wanted to mark the celebration with an act of generosity that overshadowed the great blessing of the building we received. Acts 20:35 says that it is better to give than to receive and that has truly turned out to be the case.”

The cars included a Chevy Cruze, a Toyota Corolla, a Nissan Sentra, Ford Escape and a Dodge Journey.

About 2,000 raffle tickets were distributed for the four-car giveaway.

The cars were paid by a fund that is made up of 10 percent of all donations the church receives.

The Mississippi state Senate has passed a bill that bans abortions after 15 weeks. If signed into law, it would be the most restrictive abortion ban in the US.

According to TheHill.com, the Mississippi Senate passed the bill in a 35-14 vote. The bill now goes on to the House, and, if passed there, on to the desk of Republican Gov. Phil Bryant who is expected to sign it into law.

Several states have already adopted 20-week abortion bans, and President Trump has even supported a federal ban on abortion after 20 weeks, but this ultimately failed to pass without the support of Senate Democrats. This Mississippi bill, however, is a new step for the pro-life movement and actually has a good chance of becoming law.

The bill would make exceptions for abortions in the cases of a medical emergency or fetal abnormality, but would not consider exceptions in cases of rape or incest.

Mississippi is one of the nation’s most pro-life states, as ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported. The state also only has one abortion clinic, but that clinic’s owner was not pleased with the new legislation.
