Upcoming Device to Sport Smaller Bezels, More Chic Design

Sony unveils new flagship phone XZ2 and XZ2 Compact with smaller bezels and more chic design.

This year, Sony is following the steps of other tech giants like Samsung and Apple by minimizing the bezels of its units to give way for more screen. XZ2 sports a 5.7-inch, FHD+ 2160 by 1080 display, which has a 2:1 aspect ratio. This is placed in between significantly downsized top and bottom bezels. This is a lot of improvement, even though Sony still refuses to take out its logo, which is now at the bottom of the front display.

The screen has HDR-support and can automatically up-convert SDR content to make them more colorful and vibrant.

Sony is also letting go of the bar-like shape previous Xperia phones are known for by creating units with an overall “ambient flow” design. The XZ2’s rear slants into the aluminum rail at each side making it more comfortable to hold.

The rear camera is now center-aligned, unlike previous releases. Below it is the official fingerprint scanner, which before was only a double feature of the power slide button.

Sony is known for its high-powered audio and the XZ2 does not disappoint with its stereo speakers. This phone, however, does not have a headphone jack, just like a lot of new units previously announced for the year. What it has instead are AptX HD and LDAC codecs for great-quality Bluetooth audio.

What “Living Biblically” says about religion and culture today

Television is producing more shows with religious themes, as the sitcom Living Biblically illustrates. The show depicts a lapsed Catholic who is married to an atheist and decides to live by the literal commands of Scripture with the help of a Jewish rabbi and a Catholic priest. I found it mildly humorous at times, cringeworthy at others.

Other religiously themed shows include a young man preparing for his bar mitzvah, a young genius who struggles with his mother’s Christianity, and a stand-up comic who wrestles with his faith.

What they seem to have in common is this: they treat Christianity as a religion more than a relationship.

“That’s easy-it’s grace”

In What’s So Amazing About Grace?, Philip Yancey describes a conference on comparative religions in which experts were discussing whether any specific belief was unique to Christianity.

The debate went on for some time, until C. S. Lewis wandered into the room. “What’s the rumpus about?” he asked. He was told that his colleagues were discussing Christianity’s unique contribution among the world’s religions. Lewis responded: “Oh, that’s easy. It’s grace.”

When we focus on the grace-centered, intimate communion we can have with God Almighty, those who don’t understand may mock us for listening to our Father’s voice. Recall Joy Behar’s claim on The View that Mike Pence, who claims to hear God’s voice, has a “mental illness.”

As Eric Metaxas notes, “If Mike Pence is crazy for believing he hears God’s voice, then so are George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama-all of whom said they listened for the still, small voice of God.”

The good news is that some in Hollywood really understand the good news.

Malaysia rejects plea of four Christians seeking conversion recognition

Five judges sitting in the Malaysian Federal Court in Sarawak state ruled on Tuesday that the country’s Islamic Sharia courts should consider whether their identity cards ought to be revised. 

According to World Watch Monitor, an organisation which reports on cases of Christians seeing persecuted for their faith, people leaving Islam in Malaysia are being left in “legal limbo”.

 

Three of the believers converted from Islam to Christianity before becoming Muslims again in order to marry a Muslim spouse – they then reconverted to Christianity. 

They have been named as Tiong Choo Ting (formerly known as Mohamed Syafiq Abdullah), Jenny Peter (Nur Muzdhalifah Abdullah) and Salina Jau Abdullah. A fourth is a Malay-Muslim woman, Syarifah Nooraffyza Wan Hosen, who left Islam and became baptised as a Christian in 2009. 

A lawyer representing the group said Islamic Sharia law, which views apostasy as a criminal offence, makes no provision for those wanting to leave the faith. 

Baru Bian, who is an opposition politician and a campaigner for the improvement of rights of indigenous Malaysians, said civil courts should have jurisdiction. 

Tuesday’s ruling comes amid speculation that Islamists have become increasingly vocal in recent years that Malaysia is governed no longer as a secular nation but as a Muslim state.​Stay up to date with the latest news stories from a…

Reuters/File(Photo : Reuters) The much-awaited OnePlus 2 release is happening on August 11. It is packed with some killer specifications that include a fingerprint scanner and 4 GB RAM.

A sketchy leak of the rumored OnePlus 6 has been released, showing a display notch similar to that from the iPhone X.

The ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain has seen new phone showcases from tech giants Samsung, Sony, and Nokia in the past few days. Shenzhen-based Chinese company OnePlus has been relatively quiet about its upcoming phones. A recent leak, however, shows that the company has actually been working on a new flagship phone.

Chinese website iTHome first revealed the supposed photos of OnePlus 6. The unit showcases a brand-new design as compared to previous releases from the company. Most notable of which is the new glass back, which is more in tune of flagship phones released in the past couple of years.

It also follows a current design trend where a dual camera is positioned dead center on the rear. Below it is a fingerprint scanner, very much like that of Samsung Galaxy S9+. The OnePlus logo is located still underneath.

Even the front screen follows the bezel-less trend. The thinning out of the bezels on the upcoming phone is very noticeable when compared to the previous OnePlus 5T, which still had thick bottom and top bezels.

Jerusalem church to reopen following tax row

Major denominations, including the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches, said in a statement that the church would reopen early on Wednesday after being closed for three days to protest the Israeli tax plan.

The Israeli move had enraged religious leaders, who closed one of Christianity’s most important holy sites ahead of the busy Easter season. The church is revered as the site where Jesus was crucified and resurrected.

 

Jerusalem’s mayor had backed down on the tax plan earlier on Tuesday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said a professional team was being established to negotiate with church officials to “formulate a solution”.

“As a result, the Jerusalem Municipality is suspending the collection actions it has taken in recent weeks,” it said.

The statement from major Christian denominations said “the churches look forward to engage” with the team to ensure Jerusalem “remains a place where the three monotheistic faiths may live and thrive together”.

 

Christian leaders closed the famed church on Sunday to protest an order by Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat to begin taxing their properties.

Mr Barkat stressed that his decision affected only commercial properties, such as hotels, restaurants and offices, and not houses of worship. He said other cities followed similar practices worldwide.
