Active Shooter Situation Reported at Florida High School: At Least 20 Injured

An active shooter situation is unfolding at a Florida high school. Law enforcement and a SWAT team rushed to Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida after the situation was reported.

Students are currently being evacuated and it is thought that at least 20 people have been injured. The shooter is still at large.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott tweeted, “I’ve spoken with @browardsheriff Scott Israel, @browardschools Superintendent Robert Runcie and FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen regarding Stoneman Douglas High School. We’ll continue to receive updates from law enforcement.”

CNN.com reports that the shooting took place as school was letting out at 2:40 p.m. local time.

There are about 2,000 students enrolled at Stoneman Douglas High School, and while videos show streams of students being evacuated, it is unclear whether the entire building is being evacuated or if law enforcement officials are narrowing in on the area where the shooter might be.

President Trump has reportedly been briefed on the shooting.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Department has instructed people to follow them on Twitter for updates on the situation.

1 in 5 Practicing Christians Have Never Heard of Liturgy: Barna Study

(Photo: Facebook/Gary Lewis)A worship service at First Baptist Church of Rincon, Georgia.

About one in five practicing Christians are unfamiliar with liturgical practices like worship readings and stated creeds, according to a new report from the Barna Group.

In findings released Tuesday, Barna revealed that while 62 percent of respondents are either very familiar or somewhat familiar with liturgy, 19 percent are unfamiliar with the worship concept.

Drawn from a sample of 1,020 individuals labeled “Practicing Christians,” Barna found there to be variance among racial backgrounds for the liturgy familiarity question.

Those who are more likely to be “very familiar” with liturgy are white practicing Christians (37 percent) and Hispanic practicing Christians (28 percent).

“Even though Catholic practice has been trending down, there are strong Catholic (and thus liturgical) roots and awareness in Hispanic communities across the country,” noted Barna.

Among black practicing Christians, only 14 percent are familiar with the concept “likely because many black faith communities developed around less institutional and more charismatic corporate worship.”

Barna also found that older generations like Baby Boomers are more familiar and supportive of liturgy, while…

Christian charity sees Gaza health care crisis first-hand

Recently generators at seven health centres in the besieged Gaza Strip stopped working due to a fuel shortage and Gaza’s largest hospital cancelled all medical procedures because hospital cleaning staff went on strike.

Jamie Eyre from Christian charity Embrace the Middle East was in Gaza last week.

He told Premier there are major concerns.

“Sixteen government clinics closed their doors because of a lack of fuel, power has been reduced to just four hours of electricity at a time and twelve hours off,” he said.

Eyre said the cause of the crisis is the eleven year Gaza blockade.

“Therefore there’s real difficulty getting goods in and out, “he said. “You’ve got to have the ability to travel. The ongoing situation between Israel and Palestine and some salaries not being paid by the authorities are also causes. “

Embrace has partnered with some hospitals to help them. For example, the organisation will be doing a project with Al Alhi Hospital.

The project offers free medical care for poor patients two days per week at the hospital. Patients will be followed for at least one month to monitor the response to treatment. Ahli will also provide a meal and free transport to and from the hospital for each patient and contribute towards fuel and drug supplies.

Sovereign Grace Leaders Say Sexual Abuse Allegations Have Damaged Innocent Pastors and Churches

(Photo: Facebook)Former president of Sovereign Grace Churches C.J. Mahaney.

Leaders of the Sovereign Grace Churches network delivered a full-throated defense of their ministerial colleagues against former gymnast and Larry Nassar accuser Rachael Denhollander, who, they argue, has falsely characterized their handling of sexual abuse as “one of the worst, if not the worst, instances of evangelical cover-up.”

“The decisions of Rachael and others to publicly pronounce SGC and its pastors guilty of sexual abuse and conspiracy, on the basis of false allegations and with no direct knowledge of SGC’s history or the facts, have profoundly damaged the reputations and gospel ministries of innocent pastors and churches,” the leaders declared in a statement Tuesday.

Denhollander, 33, who was one of the many sexual abuse victims of Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor, alleged that when she advocated for sexual abuse victims at Sovereign Grace, referencing a case dating back to 2012, church leaders felt that her status as a survivor made her biased. In a civil lawsuit, victims alleged that church leaders, including Sovereign Grace founder C. J. Mahaney, “conspired and continue to conspire” to “permit sexual deviants to have unfettered access to children for purposes of…

Son of Imprisoned North Korean Man Asks for Help, Prayer for Father

Son of Imprisoned North Korean Man Asks for Help, Prayer for Father

David Platt and Kevin DeYoung are asking people to pray and contact Congress over the imprisonment of an American pastor in North Korea.

In a video from earlier in February, Sol Kim, the son of the pastor imprisoned, asks for help releasing his father, Kim SangDuck, otherwise known as Tony Kim.

“Just miles from where the Olympics are being held, this son’s dad is detained in #NorthKorea. Please listen to this video, pray, spread the word, and contact Congress regarding his release,” Platt, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board, wrote in a tweet last week.

DeYoung, senior pastor at Christ Covenant Church in Matthew, North Carolina, also linked to the video, saying: “Worth two minutes to watch and pray.”

North Korean officials in Pyongyang arrested Tony Kim in April 2017.

Sol Kim says in the campaign group Free USA 3 video that his father had just finished a semester as a professor in North Korea before he was arrested at the airport.

“No explanation was given. My family and I have had no contact with him since. He has not been charged with any crime, and we don’t know what is happening to him,” Sol Kim said.

U.S. State Department officials reported that they saw Tony Kim alive about seven months ago when officials visited North Korea to bring Otto Warmbier back to the U.S. Warmbier, a University of Virginia student, was…

Housebuilder Persimmon boss will give some of bonus to charity after church criticism

Jeff Fairburn said he always intended to give a “substantial amount” of his triple-digit award to charity, and regrets not making his feelings public sooner.

The announcement comes after the company faced mounting pressure from politicians and some shareholders, such as the Church of England and the Methodist church.

Mr Fairburn said he “profoundly regretted” how the controversy surrounding his bonus had “eclipsed” Persimmon’s strong performance.

He said: “Persimmon’s success as a business and the uncapped nature of the scheme has meant that the value of these awards has become very large.”

Defending his position, he said the introduction of the bonus scheme pre-dated his appointment and he had not sought out the bumper pay awards.

He added: “Once it became apparent that our outperformance would lead to a very significant award for me, I made plans to use a substantial proportion of the total to support the charities that are particularly important to me and my family.

“But, in what might be considered to be an old-fashioned approach, I believed that this was a personal matter and that I would be able to do this privately.

“It’s now clear that this belief was misplaced and so I am making my plans public and recognise that I should have done so sooner.”

Mr Fairburn became eligible for £40 million of the payout on New Year’s Eve.
