Sports presenter criticised for attributing player’s skills to Jesus

The Christian Hall of Famer and former football coach Tony Dungy predicted the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback would “play well because his Christian faith would allow him to play with confidence” as he spoke on air during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

He responded to Twitter critics who questioned how Foles’ religious beliefs helped him defeat the Patriots.

 

“NBC pays me to express my opinion,” Dungy replied to one Twitter user.

 

He asked someone else on the social media site: “Why would you find it hard to believe that the Holy Spirit could speak to Nick Foles just as much as a coach could speak to him?

“If he credited a coach for saying ‘stay calm and be confident’ that’s good. But if he tells me Christ says that to him, I shouldn’t report it???”

Dungy reported that Foles told him God had “a special moment” coming up for him and his team.

A former intelligence professional, who is a historian of the Soviet Union, is warning that schools in America are starting to embrace a propaganda operation designed to squash thought and demand allegiance to political correctness and gender ideology.

Speaking before attendees gathered at the Family Research Council office in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Stella Morabito, senior contributor to The Federalist, unpacked both the content and processes of a group called CASEL, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning. 

“Social and emotional learning,” she explained, is becoming all the rage in the public education policy realm and if left unchecked it will result in a monolithic, nationalized mandate demanding conformity to the politically correct dogma of the days. In other words, it is a massive state-sponsored propaganda operation intended to isolate and control people, including kids, about how to feel and relate to people.

During her presentation, Morabito showed video footage of CASEL advocates and experts opining about why this kind of education is needed. They say it is because it is the only way children will acquire “life skills” and children, who are bound to become “self-directed,” are “crying out” for this, noting that data show that approximately 40 percent are “chronically disengaged” in school. CASEL’s  curriculum is being implemented in certain places in the U.S, especially in urban areas.

    The charity said it can be tempting to pray that the secretive state’s dictator is dethroned but, if Kim falls, others will take his place.

    Dr Eric Foley, a Release partner who works with North Korean refugees, said: “I have never encountered a North Korean Christian who has prayed for the regime to be overthrown, not once in 15 years. Underground Christians are praying that Kim Jong-Un will come to know Christ.

     

    “Perhaps North Korean Christians know better than the rest of us, that it is not a change of government that will bring peace, but the entry of the Prince of Peace into our hearts.

    “We should follow their lead and pray not for regime change, but for a change of the heart of the regime.”

    A call for prayers for the leader’s salvation came after North Korea announced plans to stage a pre-Olympic military parade.

    The nation will stage its annual display of thousands of troops, tanks and missiles on 8th February, the day before the Winter Olympics gets underway across the border in South Korea.

    The muscle-flexing has been described as grandstanding in a crisis that could threaten nuclear war, but Release International said that crisis should be turned into a rallying cry for prayer for the persecuted.

    Paul Robinson, CEO of Release International, said state surveillance of Christians in North Korea has never been tighter.

    In less than two months since 2018 began, there have been numerous cases of people getting the flu — which is normally expected to occur this time of year. Although this would normally not cause civilians any alarm, it so happens that this flu season has been touted as one of the worst ones as of late. 

    Because of the severity of this flu season, doctors have been sharing their knowledge and expertise on how to prevent colds and the flu. On top of that, it is also very important to differentiate the two, which will highly depend on the symptoms that are present any person feels like they are coming down with something. 

    It is important to mention that there are multiple symptoms that can serve as indications for both the common cold and the flu. The main difference is that the flu brings muscle aches and body pain along with an accompanying headache. Runny noses and headaches may or may not be present for both, which means that body pains will spell the difference between the two ailments. 

    Recently in Delaware alone, there have been over 1,900 confirmed cases of people who have had the misfortune of catching the flu. This number does not include the many others who have opted not to go to the hospital to tough it out, or those who have decided to self-medicate at the comfort of their own homes.

    Former gymnast and Larry Nassar accuser Rachael Denhollander stood by recent statements she made calling Sovereign Grace Ministries “one of the worst, if not the worst, instances of evangelical cover-up of sexual abuse” as the church said her characterization of a dismissed 2012 sexual abuse case against the church is “not true.”

    “The lawsuit was dismissed because the statute of limitations had expired. This is a dismissal on technical grounds only, it had nothing to do with the substantive claims made against SGM,” she said in a statement Monday. “It simply means that the time for which legal proceedings can be initiated has expired and therefore the court no longer has the authority to examine the merits of the plaintiff’s claims. Ultimately, this dismissal means that the evidence against SGM was never examined by the courts. This is not evidence, in any way, shape, or form, that SGM has not done what is alleged.”

    North Korea is making headlines this morning with the announcement that Kim Jong-un’s sister will attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics on Friday night. She will be the first immediate Kim family member to cross the border.

    In other news, organizers are providing 110,000 condoms to athletes, a record number for a Winter Olympics.

    Many articles have appeared in recent years chronicling the extreme sexual promiscuity of athletes during the Olympics. Every writer I’ve seen on the subject has found a way to make light of such sin or even to celebrate it.

    Immorality and athletics do not have to go together, as several Philadelphia Eagles players proved Sunday evening when they used their Super Bowl victory to glorify God. It is tragic when Olympic athletes fail to use their platform for moral good. It is even more tragic that our culture doesn’t expect them to.

    In other news, a fake doctor in India has made headlines for using contaminated needles and syringes, causing more than twenty people to test positive for HIV. Closer to home, dental students at Yale University made news for taking a selfie with two severed heads being used for medical research.

    Unsurprisingly, given all the bad news in the news, more than half of Americans say the news causes them stress. Many report anxiety, fatigue, or sleep loss as a result. Psychologists warn that such stress can fuel physical ailments such as cardiovascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

    Justin Welby rebukes Trumps’ criticism of NHS

    Mr Trump’s recent Twitter outburst against the British health system described it as “going broke and not working”.

    Defending the NHS and its “challenges”, Archbishop Justin tweeted: “Public health is a universal good.

     

    “Its absence is a danger to all. Whatever its challenges, the NHS is an expression of our deep concern for the common good and the solidarity of society.

     

    “It reflects God’s love and care for the sick. Like millions, I thank God for the NHS.”

    On Tuesday, Downing Street backed Health and Social Care Secretary Jeremy Hunt in an extraordinary Twitter row with the president.

    Downing Street said the Prime Minister was “proud” of the NHS and its funding was “at a record high”.
