Topic: A Reign Of Righteousness [DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday February 7th, 2018]

Text: Psalm 72:1-20 (KJV)

Key Verse: “In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth” (Psalm 72:7)

MESSAGE:

An American Christian commentator who was summing up where things are and where they are going, following the American 2015 Supreme Court’s ruling that made same-sex marriage a right nationwide wrote: “The world is upside down, inside out, sideways, crazy, nutsy. Bad is good; up is down. Left is right; right is wrong. Evil is good; insanity is sanity. Abnormal is normal…” The Western world is especially moving quickly away from its foundations. Christians who believe that God instituted marriage between a male and a female and have the gall to suggest that the best environment to raise children is when they have both a mother and a father are now labelled crazy, hate-filled bigots.

Man’s rule on this planet has been a dismal failure since the fall. It has been characterised by oppression, injustice and corruption. We have endured the evil of slavery and suppression which were man’s attempt to gain superiority over another. Adding to the problem of oppression is man’s gross misunderstanding and misjudgment about what qualifies a personality to be called God. This has brought many to the worship of animals, birds, nature, and even fellow human beings.

The coming reign of Christ will overturn all unrighteous edicts of rulers and kings of this world. It is described in our text as a period of unprecedented peace, comfort and prosperity. It is compared to the refreshing rain after a long period of draught. It will be a time of justice for the oppressed; all people will worship the same God. There will be no more worship of the various deities held in reverence in many parts of the world today.

You can have a foretaste of His reign of peace and righteousness even now! How? Repent of all sins and receive Christ as Saviour.

A good friend knows the importance of turning any conservation towards matters of faith. Refuse to dwell on gossip or frivolous talk that dry up the soul! Affirm your friend’s value!

A visit, a note or a phone call can let your friend know how important he or she is. Please do that today. It will keep your friendship growing more this year. Also, surprise your spouse/family today!

Respect their feelings and wishes! No one wants a friend with whom dreams, ideas, and concerns fall on deaf ears. A good friend is a great asset. Encourage your friend through compliments and by doing good. Say a word of power and praise to a staff or a friend before going to bed today. Your friend should and will feel better after being in your presence.

Do people leave full or empty? David and Jonathan had a good relationship. At a stage, Jonathan had to act courageously to save David’s life (today’s Scripture). May God give you a Jonathan and may you become one to someone today and indeed this year! Champions like Jonathan are people who really care. Would you be a champion in 2018? Start caring and always remember: People do not care much how you know, till they know how much you care! 2018 is your year! Pray now!

1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

MESSAGE:

Power must be balanced with the fear of God for it to be productive. It occurred to me that if we leave the government of our nation in the hands of people who lack the fear of God, we are all bound to pay dearly for it. Even unborn children and many innocent people will suffer for it. 1 Timothy 2:2 says we should pray:

“For kings, and all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

This means that the level of peace and quiet we experience in our nation is a function of the amount of quality prayers rendered for our leaders. You must also pray for the person who would become your General Overseer or Pastor. If the wrong fellow takes up any of these positions, you will surely suffer. As a student, you can also prayerfully ask for the right teacher, lecturer or supervisor that will be instrumental to your success. Start to ask the Lord for a leader with the fear of God from now on.

Action Point: A leader who fears God is both accountable to God and the people under him/her. Ask that such leaders will govern your nation from now on.

Topic: The Devil Has Been Defeated [TREM’s Daily Wednesday February 7, 2018]

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” Hebrew 2:14 (KJV)

Before Christ came, the devil had the power of death. And when we talk about death, it doesn’t mean only the cessation of life. It involves everything that has life. For instance, sickness is a type of death. Failure, disappointment, frustration, barrenness, marriage breakup or anything evil are all part of death. However, after the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, the devil has no more power. He has been stripped! He has been defeated!

But the truth is that Satan is smart. The devil understands that not everyone that has been redeemed understands that he has been defeated. So, he uses the weapon of fear. That is why the bible says that the just shall live by faith. By faith means by the Word. The just shall live by the Word.  Sometimes it may not look like it, that should not bother you. Your assignment is to live by the Word because the Word works. When you refuse to live by faith, the devil puts fear in you and fear makes you say the negative.

Child of God, you are the one who has the authority over sickness, over failure and over disappointment. If you fail to use your authority, you will remain down.  He is not the one who did it. You did because you refused to use your authority. But the moment you say:  “No!  By His stripes, I was healed”. The devil will back off because he knows you understand. So, the devil uses what rightfully belongs to you to torment you. In the real sense of it, the devil has no power. The power he uses is the power you give to him.

Thought For The Day: You are to respect people but not to appear pitiable before them.

Our anchor scripture corroborates the fact that it is mentality that sets the pace for reality in life.

What differentiates a royal family, for instance, from others is mentality. When a baby is born into the British royal family, he/she for example is taught from babyhood how to behave as royalty by a chaperone.

On our journey of exploring what it takes to be distinguished and exempted by God from the adverse conditions of the world, we looked at belonging to God as the first key to accessing the exemption plan of God. Today, we shall be looking at mentality adjustment.

As royalty, there is a way to think, talk, walk, and eat. For instance, royalties do not eat in public. When a king walks, he is not in a hurry; his steps are calculated, organized and not scattered. The consciousness of who he is, is in his mind.

In the same vein, as a child of God, there is a way to think. You are not supposed to look beggarly; you are to respect people but not to appear pitiable before them. You may not have become what God has in mind for you yet, but you are on your way. So, adjust your mentality.
Sometime ago, one of my children asked me, ‘Daddy, who taught you how to walk?’ I said, nobody. The truth is, there is something inside a person with the right mentality that organizes his steps; it is the revelation of who he is. He moves with boldness and confidence.

It is important to know that your case is different from that of the people of the world; you are under a Divine programme of exemption and distinction.

Remember This: You are to respect people but not to appear pitiable before them.

Assignment(S):

1. Refuse to beg or appear pitiable.

2. Develop the mentality of a king.

3. Refuse to confess negatively; believe that your case is different and declare it.

When I was a new Christian, it was almost impossible for me to live at peace with anyone! Almost every time I opened my mouth, I said something ugly. I was constantly hurting the people I was close to. In fact, I spoke more harshly to them than to anyone else.

I criticized Gloria’s driving so much that she nearly refused to drive while I was with her. I criticized my children so much that they began to avoid me. I didn’t want to be so insensitive, but I couldn’t help it. I had a well-developed habit of speaking harshly and didn’t know how to change it.

Then I found Ephesians 5:4. It said, “[Let there be] no coarse, stupid, or flippant talk; these things are out of place; you should rather be thanking God” (New English Bible). When I read that, I realized I needed to replace the words I was used to saying with words of thanksgiving. That would solve my problem. After all, I couldn’t speak harshly and thank God at the same time. I couldn’t criticize those around me if I had a thankful attitude about them.

I immediately decided to put this principle to work in my life. Rushing into my son’s room one day ready to lambaste him about something he had done, I recognized my old behavior pattern. I just stopped and said to myself, “The Word says this kind of behavior is out of place, so I am going to stop and thank God.” I wasn’t nearly as angry after I spent a few minutes praising and thanking the Lord.

If you’ve developed the habit of speaking harshly, start changing that habit today. When someone crosses you on the job, at school, or wherever, and you’re tempted to tear into them with cruel words, stop! Then take a few moments to give thanks and praise to God. Once you begin thinking about how good God is, more often than not, those harsh, angry words will just slip away unspoken.

Instead of using your tongue to tear people down, train it to lift God’s praises up. Then living at peace with others will come easily to you!

Luke 3:20, “….he shut up John in prison.”

Text: MT. 4:12; MK. 1:14, 17-18; LK. 3:19-20; JN. 4:1-3

John spent 30 years preparing for a six month ministry, followed by one and a half years in prison before he was beheaded. Many people would not consider his life very successful, yet Jesus said John was the greatest man who was ever born (Mt. 11:11).

John’s greatness didn’t lie in his own success, but in the success of another. John stirred up the hearts of an entire nation in expectancy of their Messiah. The ministry of Jesus owed much of its success to the work of John. John had prepared a people to meet their God (Mal. 3:1).

In our celebrity conscious society, few people want to be the backup singer or the announcer who introduces the main speaker. We have adopted a mentality that unless we are in the limelight we have failed. That’s not the way the Lord looks at things.

When the Lord passes out rewards in heaven, we may be shocked to see how He evaluates greatness. Many people who did not receive recognition while on earth will shine like the stars in eternity. The Lord will judge our works on what sort they were and not what size they were (I Cor. 3:13).

“But if someone who is supposed to be a Christian has money enough to live well, and sees a brother in need, and won’t help him – how can God’s love be within him?” — 1 John 3:17 (TLB)

You know that the hardest thing for you to give up is your money. It represents your time, your energy, your talents, your total personality converted into currency. We usually hold on to it tenaciously, yet it is uncertain in value and we cannot take it into the next world. The Scripture teaches that we are stewards for a little while of all we earn.

If we misuse it, as did the man who buried his talent, it brings upon us the severest judgment of God. The tithe is the Lord’s. If you use it for yourself, you are robbing God. We are to take the tithe as a standard, but to go beyond the tithe is an indication of our gratefulness for God’s gifts to us. In the midst of sorrow and trouble, this life has many blessings and enjoyments which have come from the hand of God. Even our capacity for love is a gift from God. We show our gratitude by giving back to Him a part of that which He has given to us.

Prayer for the day: Give me a generous heart, Father, that does not grudgingly give back to You all that is rightfully Yours.
