high school shooting mourners told

A 15-year-old student opened fire with a handgun inside Marshall County High School killing two of his classmates, injuring 17 and sending hundreds fleeing for safety.

A pastor at Bethel Baptist Church on Tuesday evening told students, their families, and other residents in the community that “we know that God has not forsaken us”.

He added: “And don’t go to thinking this ‘what did someone do to deserve this’?

“In life evil makes no sense – it is unpredictable and yet it is predicable.”

A girl died at the scene, and a boy died later at a hospital.

The shooter has not been identified by the police and a motive has not been disclosed.

Governor Matt Bevin said he will be charged with murder and attempted murder.

200-Year-Old Mission Sees Third Great Awakening Right Around the Corner .

(Unsplash/Slava Bowman)

We have an interesting story, well told, from .. . charismapodcastnetwork.com.

The word “missionary” carries a strong stereotype—but if Americans want to see revival, it’s time for that to change.

When many think of missionaries, they picture Western Christians leaving their comfortable homes to minister to people in third-world countries who have never heard the gospel before.

That picture is a noble and often accurate…

Christian Actor Kevin Sorbo: ‘Abortion is the Definition of Evil’

Christian Actor Kevin Sorbo: ‘Abortion is the Definition of Evil’

Conservative Christian actor Kevin Sorbo is used to making waves for his unpopular views in Hollywood. Recently, he spoke out against abortion and Planned Parenthood.

According to LifeNews.com, Sorbo, along with his wife, Sam, wrote an op-ed published by CNSNews.com. in which he tells the true story of a woman who planned to have an abortion, but through the counsel of a friend, decided to keep her baby.

“Secular humanists have made the word abortion sound like a woman’s right, synonymous with health care, female empowerment, standing for women’s issues, a choice, a solution; anything but the truth,” Sorbo writes.

“The truth is, however, abortion is the termination of life,” he continued. “It is just a euphemism for murder because the only reason to get an abortion is to avoid the potential of birth – a human birth.”

Sorbo also compared the difference in attitude organizations like Planned Parenthood have toward human life versus, say, the preservation of sea turtle eggs.

“In some cases, disturbing the nest of a sea turtle and stealing its eggs is a crime punishable by years in prison and tremendous fines, but we have an entire industry in this nation devoted to the murder of unborn human beings.”

Wrapping up his editorial, Sorbo does not mince words:

“Barely a century after our grave and costly war against slavery, against depriving some…

Pope denounces ‘fake news’ and urges journalists to search for truth

After facing unprecedented bad press during his recently-concluded South American tour, Francis released his annual social communications message on the subject of “fake news and journalism for peace”.

The Pope said the first fake news dated from the Biblical beginning of time, when Eve was tempted to take an apple from the Garden of Eden based on disinformation from the serpent.

Francis said: “The strategy of this skilled ‘Father of Lies’ is precisely mimicry, that sly and dangerous form of seduction that worms its way into the heart with false and alluring arguments.”

He urged a rediscovery of the “dignity of journalism” and called for reporters to speak the truth.

Red’s First Ever Smartphone to Arrive in Summer, Boasts of Holographic Display

Facebook/RED Hydrogen OneRed’s first ever smartphone, the Hydrogen One, boasts of a holographic display.

While a specific release date is yet to be announced, Red has revealed that its first ever smartphone is slated to arrive this summer.

After more than six months of taking pre-orders for its first-ever smartphone, Hydrogen One, Red has announced earlier this week that it will finally be out this summer as the smartphone is already set to enter mass production. The announcement was made by Red’s CEO and founder, Jim Jannard, who also revealed the additional new specs for Hydrogen One.

According to Jannard, the 5.7-inch screen of the Hydrogen One will boast of two modes: A regular 2D mode and a 4-View (4V) holographic mode, also known as the brand’s version of 3D. For Jannard, though, the holographic mode is better than a 3D images even without the accompanying 3D glasses as proven by those who have already experienced 4V in person, who, according to the Red CEO, reacted with “gasps, swears or just grins.”

While the 4V format of the Hydrogen One is new, Jannard suggests that it will get support from different social media sites. Furthermore, the Red CEO also revealed that his company will establish a “Hydrogen Network,” which will be a platform for the new format.

“This will be the one place to find all 4V content online. From major studios and other content providers to creating your own channel,” Jannard said.

Although it can’t be denied that its holographic ability is the major selling point of Hydrogen One, it is not the only thing it boasts of. Apart from a body that is made of either…

Christians to ask Parliament to put Jesus back into prayer

They’ve started campaigning online and, on 30th January, they will gather, urging the Speaker of the House, Trevor Mallard, to change the ‘Te Reo karakia’, or prayer, back to how it was before.

The pastor of Celebration Church in Wellington, Pastor Ross Smith is encouraging Christians to speak out.

The movement, called ‘Jesus for NZ’ released a statement, in which Pastor Ross Smith said: “We feel that the Church does not have a voice in this change and we are here to change that.”

“Numbers speak to Parliament and this rally may be the only way to keep Jesus in the prayer; that is why we are calling for all Christians to be a part of this movement.”

Rally organisers met with the Speaker late last year, when he advised he would consider the matter over the holidays.

Mentions of the Queen have also been removed.

Many have got behind the movement on facebook, with support from New Zealand radio stations and plans to release social media videos on Tuesday.

One supporter uploaded this poster:

Separating parents urged by Christian charity to protect kids from fighting

In honour of Family Mediation Week, the organisation has partnered with Wells Family Mediation to put together advice on how separated parents can show unity when raising their child.

Available on the charity’s website, the advice includes a short film and articles containing practical tips. It also includes advice for single Dads from Daniel Sherwin who runs the blog Dadsolo.

The advice includes:

  • Aim for a relaxed atmosphere at handovers, where the child does not pick up stress or conflict.
  • Protect your child from conflict between you and the other parent.
  • Always speak nicely of the other parent when in the child’s presence.
  • Use ‘we’ language to the child, to show that mum and dad talk about him/her and make decisions together.

Ian Soars, chief executive of Fegans, which provides children’s counselling and parenting support services across the South East, said: “Separation is an incredibly stressful and upsetting time, and we can’t always protect our children fully from the impact of a broken relationship. However, research shows that children benefit from shared parenting.

“This is not just about how much time they have with each parent – although that is important – but it is also about how they experience the relationship between their parents.”

The new short film gives the child’s perspective of family life after separation.

In one scene, a boy looks up from…

Women Teaching Men Is ‘Out of Step With Scriptures’ .

Theologian John Piper
Theologian John Piper (John Piper/Facebook)

John Piper created quite the internet firestorm when he said that women should not teach aspiring pastors in seminary.

In a recent blog, Piper says:

the attempt to distinguish the seminary teaching role from the pastoral teaching role in such a way that the biblical restriction to men does not apply to the seminary teaching results in a serious inconsistency. That’s my argument.

The inconsistency is this: the more one succeeds in distinguishing the…
