5 Things Christians Need to Know about Chick-fil-A Founder Truett Cathy

While Truett Cathy has feed millions of people chicken sandwiches over the years, most close to the restaurateur says feeding souls brought him the greatest joy.

“Nearly every moment of every day we have the opportunity to give something to someone else – our time, our love, our resources,” said Cathy. “I have always found more joy in giving when I did not expect anything in return.”

Cathy exemplified that he practiced what he preached by forgoing his salary when times got tough during the recession of 1982.

In the Bill Graham Evangelical Association’s magazine Decision, Cathy explains, “Too many CEOs are leaving sinking ships. They should be the last ones to leave the company. If some people are losing money, everyone should lose money, not just the stockholders.”

Dr. Jim Denison, Ph.D of the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture says it would be a disservice to simply describe Cathy as a “rags-to-riches” success story.

“Here’s what Truett Cathy’s decision proves,” Denison wrote. “The more difficult our obedience, the greater our reward.”

While Mr. Cathy has sold more chicken sandwiches than most can comprehend, Denison adds there is great paradox in his decision to be closed on Sunday.

“He witnessed to the Lord’s priority in his life every Sunday, to every person who drove past his closed restaurants. He touched more people by that one decision than many pastors will reach in a lifetime.”

Members Turned Away From Church as Congregants Push to Dismiss Pastor Accused of Misusing Church Funds

(Photo: Facebook)Pastor Cameron McDonald and his wife Erica of Southern Acres Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

Several members of the Southern Acres Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky, who have been lobbying to remove the pastor over allegations of financial impropriety and abuse of power, were turned away from the church Sunday to avoid “disruption” in the house of God.

Southern Acres member Chance Staley told WYKT that he and other members of the church were blocked by a police officer from attending the church on Sunday.

“As I approached the church the officer greeted me, Officer White, and he was very kind. He just said I wasn’t welcome here and if I chose to stay I would be charged with criminal trespassing and arrested,” Staley said.

The move comes after two Southern Acres Christian Church members alleged in a lawsuit last November that Pastor Cameron McDonald mismanaged church funds, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.

Concerned church members James Keogh and Chad Martin filed the lawsuit to prevent McDonald and his wife, Erica, from spending church money or making any real estate transfers. They alleged that he concentrated power and financial authority among himself, his wife and another staffer.

McDonald, who took over the…

Open Heavens 24th January 2018: Wednesday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Fruit of the Spirit II

Open Heavens 24th January 2018: Wednesday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Fruit of the Spirit II

Topic: Fruit of the Spirit II [Open Heavens Wednesday 24th January 2018]

Memorise: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.John 14:27

Read: Acts 27:20-36 (KJV)

20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.

23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

26 Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

27 But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

28 And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

29 Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

30 And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

31 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

32 Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

33 And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

34 Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

35 And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

36 Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

Bible in One Year: Exodus 1-3, Revelation 22

MESSAGE

Yesterday we established that the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit in the life of a person is a result of cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit, a process which the Bible refers to as walking in the Spirit. We also started taking a closer look at individual character traits that emanate from such a relationship. Together, these character traits form the totality of the character of the Holy Spirit. Today, we will consider the dimensions of this character that enables the Holy Spirit reach out to us as the Comforter: Joy, Peace and Longsuffering.

Joy is a nature of gladness in the spirit that is not impacted by external circumstances. How does a person manifest joy in the midst of sorrow and calamity? A person who walks in the Spirit is able to manifest joy because he or she is privy to heaven’s information and is therefore able to see the bigger picture of what God is doing in every situation. Due to his or her relationship with the Holy Spirit, such a person receives secret information from heaven on the true state of things (John 16:13). This was why Paul, even as a prisoner about to be shipwrecked, was able to eat, drink and give thanks in the middle of a storm! The Holy Spirit had already revealed to him what was going to happen, and so he was full of good cheer, unmoved by the external circumstances around him. I pray that from today, you will be filled with joy in the Holy Ghost in Jesus’ Name. similar to joy, peace is a nature of calmness that reflects a freedom from strife within. To understand peace, just watch a little child sleep. The Lord Jesus Christ manifested this when He was able to sleep in the midst of a raging storm. When He was awoken by the disciples, He was able to extend the nature of peace within Him to the stormy environment around Him (Mark 4:37-39). This is what He expects of us also (John 14:27). You can only manifest the peace of God when you are at peace with the Holy Spirit dwelling in you. you cannot be at peace with the Holy Spirit if you are involved in anything that is contrary to His nature. If you confess that you are saved, yet you are not at peace, examine your ways and motives; there might be some things contrary to the nature of the Holy Spirit hiding somewhere. Longsuffering is a nature built on the hope of a greater glory that lies ahead after enduring sufferings. How does a man hold on to his faith in the midst of adversity? When the Holy Spirit reveals to you the glory that is reserved for you after overcoming hardship, you will manifest a longsuffering nature. This nature continually propelled Paul in the face of adversities (Romans 8:18, 2 Corinthians 11:23-27). How we need the Spirit in these perilous times!

Prayer Point: Father, let the nature of Your Spirit in joy, peace and longsuffering find expression in my life in Jesus’ Name.

Hymn 2: I Need Thee Every Hour

1. I Need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.

Chorus:
I need Thee, Oh, I need Thee,
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh bless me now, my Saviour;
I come to Thee.

2. I need Thee every hour;
Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their pow’r
When Thou art nigh.

3. I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.

4. I need Thee every hour;
Teach me Thy will,
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfil.

5. I need Thee every hour,
Most Holy One;
O make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

Psalm 45 is a wedding song, and it tells the story of the king’s wedding. Therefore, this royal celebration is the wedding of all weddings. Psalm 45 is a prophecy about the coming of our groom, King Jesus. It paints a picture of King Jesus preparing a place for His bride, the church, and then coming back to take her to His Father’s house.

In His first coming, Jesus betrothed every believer to Him on the cross of Calvary. He told everyone who belongs to Him: “I love…

Atheist Organization Targets White House Bible Study

Atheist Organization Targets White House Bible Study

The Freedom From Religion Foundation and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington is suing the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development over information about a weekly cabinet bible study.

The suit comes after the group had asked for Freedom of Information Act requests to agencies led by Cabinet secretaries who attend the weekly bible study. A press release says the FFRF wants to investigate how government resources are being used and if employees in the agency feel “coerced into organizing and even participating in the event.”

The Bible study is for cabinet secretaries only. Employees do not attend the studies, according to CBN News.

The FFRF and CREW filed suit when HUD refused to waive fees for the FOIA requests. HUD provided responses to the requests but said the fees were needed because the records were “not in the public interest or related to HUD operations or activities.”

The leader of the bible study is Capitol Ministries founder Ralph Drollinger, who has led the studies for years.

Drollinger said the FFRF could find the materials discussed at the studies at his site, www.capmin.org. He also said all related Bible study expenses are paid by Capitol Ministries.

Cabinet secretaries who attend the Capitol Ministries Bible Study include Attorney General Jeff Sessions, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, HUD Secretary Ben…

Pastor Chris Conlee Blasts ‘Hateful’ Bloggers, Critics of Andy Savage in Sexual Assault Case

(Screenshot: YouTube)Chris Conlee, lead pastor of Highpoint Church in Memphis, Tennessee.

A week after Teaching Pastor Andy Savage of Highpoint Church in Memphis, Tennessee, took a leave of absence over a “sexual incident” with a 17-year-old former parishioner that occurred 20 years ago in Texas, Highpoint Lead Pastor Chris Conlee denounced bloggers who have been critical.

“What happened 20 years ago was wrong. What is happening with bloggers and social media critics being so hateful is also wrong,” Conlee told his congregation Sunday about church sexual assault advocates who have been criticizing the way Savage’s past was kept secret from his congregation.

Savage’s accuser, Jules Woodson, revealed in a report highlighted in The Wartburg Watch earlier this month, how he coerced her into performing oral sex on him while he was her then 22-year-old youth pastor at Woodlands Parkway Baptist Church, now known as StoneBridge Church 20 years ago.

She alleged that even though he was fired from the church over the incident, what he did was not fully disclosed and she was told by church officials to keep quiet about what had happened to her. Months later, Savage was back in ministry in Memphis and his past was shared with only a few people, including Conlee.

Savage has since…
