Facebook Removes Christian Page ‘Warriors for Christ’

Facebook Removes Christian Page ‘Warriors for Christ’

Facebook has removed the Christian ministry “Warriors for Christ” page, saying the page violated community standards on bullying and hate speech.

Warriors for Christ, a West Virginia-based ministry, are a group that opposes any sinful behavior. Its Facebook page had more than 225,000 followers.

Its administrators frequently post memes that criticize LGBT rights and abortions, among other topics. Videos from Pastor Rich Penkoski are also posted on the page.

The page was first taken down on Dec. 29.

The page was reinstated after an online petition called for Facebook to reverse its decision. The page was then again removed last Friday.

Penkoski told The Christian Post that the group’s Christian beliefs are being “censored.”

“We can’t even use the term ‘LGBT’ in any context whatsoever or else it immediately gets flagged and banned. If we type those four letters out in our page, it gets removed,” Penkoski said.

He said that only 3 percent of their 3,000 posts referred to LGBT issues. The organization’s focus is counseling, he added.

“Yet, homosexuality is the focus that everyone keeps talking about with us. We talk about abortion. We talk about adultery. We talk about fornication. Nobody ever talks about that stuff,” he added. “When Facebook pulled our page [for the first time], we were actually counseling with a young woman who was suicidal.”

The second time…

Christians urged to take part in smacking consultation

A twelve-week consultation is beginning on the issue and if implemented, the ban would make Wales the second area of the UK to end the physical punishment of children.

Scotland outlawed the physical punishment of children last year.

Alistair Thompson from the Be Reasonable campaign – a group supported by the Christian Institute, told Premier’s News Hour the law is fine as it is.

He said: “There’s been a lot of very emotive language used that changing law will stop assaulting children.

“Assaulting a child is already illegal. What is permissible at the moment is a gentle smack that can redden the skin temporarily but not leave any other mark.”

Green MSP John Finnie has introduced a Member’s Bill to Holyrood to make the change, with ministers having pledged to ensure it becomes law.

In Wales, the government plans to remove the defence of reasonable punishment to the offences of battery and assault.

Mr Thompson told Premier parents are best placed to decide how to discipline their children.

He added: “It’s important that the views of ordinary parents are communicated very clearly to the Welsh Government.

“We know from polling, we know from previous discussions that the vast majority of parents and families and indeed the general population oppose changing the law.

“The Be Reasonable campaign is saying to everybody who is listening… make sure you go online and take part in the consultation because otherwise this will be another sort of power grab by the state…

Is Trump Widening a Rift between the Evangelicals and Mideast Christians?

Is Trump Widening a Rift between the Evangelicals and Mideast Christians?

When President Donald Trump announced in December he would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and call for the U.S. embassy to be moved there, some of his loudest cheerleaders were American evangelicals.

Members of Trump’s unofficial evangelical advisory board were consulted on the decision, evangelical-led groups such as Christians United for Israel advocated for the change, and conservative Christian leaders such as Jack Graham were quick to applaud the move on Twitter.

But the faith-fueled praise overshadowed a possible consequence: Namely, an escalation of simmering tensions between Middle Eastern Christians — especially those living in the occupied Palestinian territories — and American evangelicals seeking to balance hard-line support for Israel with concern for their fellow faithful.

More specifically, the move appears to make an already delicate existence even more complicated for Palestinian Christians, who make up around 2 percent of the population of the West Bank and less than one percent of the Gaza Strip, according to the CIA’s World Factbook.

Palestinians claim Jerusalem as the capital of the state for which they seek U.N. recognition, and resent Trump’s decision to change American policy, which had held that the city’s status should be determined during peace negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.

Church has ‘a long way to go’ in tackling gender inequality

Rt Rev Rachel Treweek has been speaking to Premier as the issue once again hits the headlines as BBC editor Carrie Gracie quit her job in protest at the Corporation’s pay policies.

She wrote an open letter accusing the BBC of having a ‘secretive and illegal pay culture’.

Speaking about the need for the Church to lead the way in bringing about change, Bishop Rachel said: “We need to be using our voices more and more courageously – particularly those of us in leadership – to say that men and women and boys and girls are equal and have been created precious and valuable in God’s image.”

Last year, the Church of England revealed a 41 per cent pay gap in roles at its headquarters, Church House.

Speaking to Premier at the time, a spokesperson for the Church said it “published the data at the earliest possible opportunity and are committed to reporting our gender pay data in an open and transparent way”.

The spokesperson added: “The data also shows where we have more work to do in reducing the difference in pay between men and women in more highly paid roles, and improving the ratio of men to women in the most senior and most junior roles.”

Megachurch Pastor Andy Savage is Accused of Sexual Assault

Megachurch Pastor Andy Savage is Accused of Sexual Assault

Memphis megachurch pastor Andy Savage has been accused of sexual assault, but his church is standing by him.

Savage reportedly sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl who was in his youth group when he led the youth group at a previous church. The girl recently made the decision to speak out. Her story can be read here.

Savage is now a pastor of Highpoint Church in Memphis, and church leadership there say they knew about the incident previous to the new report.

“This information is not new to me or to our leadership,” stated Highpoint head pastor Chris Conlee.

“On behalf of the elders, pastors, staff, and Trustees of Highpoint, I want to affirm that we are 100% committed to Andy [Savage] … and his continued ministry at Highpoint Church,” Conlee continued, according to The Huffington Post.

Savage himself seemed not to deny the incident, stating, “I was and remain very remorseful for the incident and deeply regret the pain I caused her and her family, as well as the pain I caused the church and God’s Kingdom.”

The girl, identified as Jules Woodson, who was reportedly assaulted by Savage, recounts that she was in his vehicle with him as he was supposedly giving her a ride home, but he instead drove the vehicle to a remote location where he sexually assaulted her.

Woodson was reportedly emboldened to come forward with her story in the wake of the #MeToo…

Russell Moore Warns of Judgment Day, Second Coming of Christ Facing TV Fraud-Preachers, Theocracies

(Photo: Matt Miller)Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission addresses reporters in Phoenix at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

Ethicist Russell Moore has urged people to always remember how terrible theocracies are, given the ongoing protests in Iran against the hardline Islamic government, and noted that Jesus warned about those claiming messianic authority.

“Theocracies are awful and abusive, not only because they oppress human beings but because they also blaspheme God,” Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, wrote Monday on his website.

Moore wrote about the unrest in Iran, where thousands of Iranians have been taking the streets in protest of rampant corruption, leading to at least 21 people killed and hundreds more arrested, noting that some Christians might be confused over what is happening.

“These wondering Christians likely recognize that Iran’s authoritarian Islamic regime is wrong, yet they might wonder why we would use the word ‘theocracy’ pejoratively. After all, the word simply means ‘rule by God.’ Shouldn’t we aspire, they might ask, to just that: governments ruled by God?” he positioned of what some may be…
