The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? — Psalm 27:1

Today many people are living in the bondage of fear. In a recent study a psychiatrist said that the greatest problem facing his patients was fear. Fear of going insane, committing suicide, being alone, or fear of heart disease, cancer, disaster, or death. We are becoming a nation of fearful people. Down through the centuries in times of trouble, temptation, trial, bereavement, and crisis, God has brought courage to the hearts of those who love Him. The Bible is crowded with assurances of God’s help and comfort in every kind of trouble which might cause fears to arise in the human heart.

Today the Christian can come to the Scriptures with full assurance that God is going to deliver the person who puts his trust and confidence in God. Christians can look into the future with promise, hope, and joy, and without fear, discouragement, or despondency.

Prayer for the day: Your assurances of love still the fears of my heart, Lord.

    Chip and Joanna Gaines Announce They are Expecting Fifth Child


    Chip and Joanna Gaines, the beloved couple from the popular HGTV series Fixer Upper, have made an exciting announcement.


    People.com reports that the couple announced that Joanna is pregnant with their fifth child.


    “Gaines party of 7.. (If you’re still confused.. WE ARE PREGNANT) @joannagaines,” Chip posted on Instagram, along with a picture of the couple both showcasing their growing bellies (Chip’s of course, being fake).


    Chip and Joanna have four children already: Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie Kay, 7.


    Following the couple’s announcement, HGTV tweeted their congratulations: “Congrats @joannagaines & @chipgaines! We can’t wait to meet #BabyGaines. #FixerUpper #GrowingUpGaines.”


    The couple has also been in the news recently with the announcement that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be the last season.


    “This is just us recognizing that we need to catch our breath for a moment,” Chip and Joanna wrote in a blog. “Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our business,” the couple wrote in that announcement.


    With this recent pregnancy announcement, it does indeed seem like a good time for the couple to focus even more on their family.

    PCUSA Updates Book of Common Worship to Have ‘Inclusive Language’ for Same-Sex Marriage

    Presbyterian Church (USA) will soon have a new Book of Common Worship, which will include a new marriage service text that will feature “inclusive language.”

    Scheduled to be released in May, the latest edition of the BCW is the first revision of the voluntary worship resource since 1993.

    Among the changes made, the new edition will feature what the PCUSA publication Presbyterians Today described as “inclusive language” for its marriage rite.

    “A revised marriage service features inclusive language and a flexible format, making the service useful for all sorts of couples and family configurations,” Presbyterians Today reported on Tuesday.

    “Those who want to renew their vows will find a service that is adaptable for a variety of people and places. Also included is a brief service of prayer for those who seek a way to ritually mark the end of a marriage.”

    Hindu Radicals Launch at Least 23 Attacks during 2017 Christmas Season in India


    International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that at least 23 religiously-motivated attacks took place during the 2017 Christmas season, including attacks on carolers and open threats against Christian celebrations. The attacks have led to several Christians’ hospitalization and imprisonment. The persecution created such fear among the Christian community that many Christians did not celebrate Christmas this year.


    On December 19, an attack occurred in Rajasthan by a radical Hindu group, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, against a Christian gathering in response to alleged forced conversions. According to Pastor Bansilal Mena, one of the organizers of the event, more than 300 Christians gathered at a community hall to celebrate Christmas, after receiving permission to hold the event. In the middle of the celebration, 20 Hindu radicals barged into the hall along with police personnel and began attacking the Christians, even though the Christians had received permission to hold the event. In addition, Hindu radicals went on stage, pulled wires, and destroyed Christian literature.

    Kitty Hawk Methodist Church Suspends Lead Pastor After 4 Women Accuse Him of Sexual Harassment

    The Rev. Jonathan Mills, a young married father of two who has been leading the Kitty Hawk Methodist Church in North Carolina for just over a year-and-a-half, has been suspended from his position after four women lodged sexual harassment complaints against him.

    The complaints were confirmed by the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, according to a WAVY.com report.

    It’s unclear what the nature of the complaints against Mills are, but the North Carolina Conference said his suspension has been effective since Dec. 19 and Mills could remain out of the pulpit for up to 90 days as they investigate.

    Local police say no criminal charges have been filed against the pastor who began serving at the church in July 2016.

    Church officials said: “Due to the complaint process, Rev. Mills is not allowed to talk to anyone at this time. This creates a time of safety for the complainants, for Mills and the church. He will be given an opportunity to respond as the process unfolds.”

    In the meantime, however, the church office investigating the allegations said they are working toward “a just resolution with healing and accountability.”
