A gunman opened fire  in the Helwan district outside a Coptic church before he was shot dead himself.

They said the exchange of fire also injured three other people.

Egypt’s state-run Mena news agency, citing an official at the Interior Ministry, said Friday’s attack in the Helwan neighbourhood was carried out by two assailants; one of them fled the scene and was being chased.

A video circulated on social media after the attack apparently shows the dead gunman on the ground.

Authorities have closed off the area around the church.

The tickets donated by a Beatles fan in Melbourne were instead used by the daughter of the Christian charity’s head, after two tickets were allegedly returned just hours before event.

The donor who gave a total of seven tickets to the charity, complained when he spotted Major Brendan Nottle’s daughter at the show.

Chris McDonald told The Age newspaper it took him more than a year to save up to buy the tickets, which cost about A$2,350 (£1,360).

He said he had been homeless himself as a young man, and wanted to “give something to people who need a lift”.

Major Nottle defended using the tickets and told Australian radio station 3AW that he had no role in giving the tickets to his daughter.

He added: To be blunt, do homeless people need tickets to Paul McCartney or do they need a roof over their head?”

The Salvation Army, which is one of Australia’s largest charitable organisations has apologised to Mr McDonald and will reimburse him for all seven tickets.

The Oregon Court of Appeals said the owners of the since-closed Gresham bakery Aaron and Melissa Klein had violated Oregon law by not baking the cake for Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer.

After the 62-page opinion was released, the state Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian celebrated the court’s decision and said: “Today’s ruling sends a strong signal that Oregon remains open to all.”

The appeals court verdict, released on Thursday, came almost nine months after attorneys representing the Kleins and the attorneys for the Bureau of Labor and Industries argued before the three-judge panel.

The Christian couple had argued that Mr Avakian violated state and federal laws by forcing them to pay emotional-distress damages to the lesbian couple.

Their lawyers also said Mr Avakian and the state Bureau of Labor and Industries violated the Kleins’ rights as artists to free speech, their rights to religious freedom and their rights as defendants to a due process.

The decision comes weeks after a Christian cake artist from Colorado opened a case at the US Supreme Court over the right to refuse to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony.

Jack Phillips from Masterpiece Cakeshop with the backing of religious freedom charity Alliance Defending Freedom, said the government cannot coerce him to create artistic expression that communicates a message with which he fundamentally disagrees.
