In 2017, more people than ever read, listened, reflected and shared the Word of God, according to the popular YouVersion Bible App. But what was this year’s most popular scripture passage?

The Bible verse that was shared, bookmarked and highlighted most often by the global Bible App community during 2017 is Joshua 1:9, which reads, “This is my command — be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

However, the report says that in the United States, this year’s most popular verse was Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Created in 2008 as one of the 200 apps available in the iPhone app store, the YouVersion Bible App has now reached the 295 million download mark.

On average, 1.4 people installed the app and 10.8 verses were shared each second of every day in 2017.

“We believe the Bible is an enduring source of courage and strength,” YouVersion founder and Life.Church Pastor Bobby Gruenewald said in a statement to Faithwire. “We are encouraged to see from this year’s data that people all over the world are finding hope in God’s Word.”

He added, “In recent…

RCCG Sunday School Students Manual 10th December 2017 Lesson 15 — The Fruit Of The Spirit: Joy And Peace

RCCG Sunday School Students Manual 10th December 2017 Lesson 15 — The Fruit Of The Spirit: Joy And Peace

TOPIC — THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: JOY AND PEACE [SUNDAY, 10TH DECEMBER 2017]

MEMORY VERSE: “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” – Romans 14:17

BIBLE PASSAGE: James 3:13-18

INTRODUCTION:

Literally, the “fruit of the Spirit” is what happens when the Holy Spirit indwells a believer. The “fruit” is the product of the Holy Spirit’s cultivation of character in a heart. Galatians 5:22-23 describes what that fruit looks like; the second and third characteristics listed are joy and peace respectively. We are to submit our wills to God’s leading and our actions to God’s word, but the actual results are up to Him. Only God can give true joy and create peace through the work of the Holy Spirit.

LESSON OUTLINES:

1. JOY

2. PEACE

JOY

The Greek word for joy is chara. Joy is the natural reaction to the work of God, whether promised or fulfilled. Joy expresses God’s kingdom – His influence on earth (Romans 14:17). The Greek chara is closely related to charis, which means “grace” or “gift”. Chara is the normal response to charis – we have joy because of God’s grace. Possessing joy is a choice. We choose whether to value God’s presence, promises and work in our lives. When we yield to the Spirit, He opens our eyes to God’s grace around us and fills us with joy (Romans 15:13). The Spirit’s production of joy can manifest in several different ways:

1. The joy of deliverance: When God sets someone free, rejoicing is in order (1Samuel 2:1; Acts 12:14).

2. The joy of salvation: Our greatest reason to be joyful is that God wants to save us and spend eternity with us (Luke 15:7; Acts 8:8; 15:3).

3. The joy of spiritual maturity: As the Holy Spirit works in us to bear more fruit, we become confident in God’s promises and rejoice in our walk with Him and with other believers (2Corinthians 1:24; 1Thessalonians 2:19-20).

4. The joy of God’s presence: The Holy Spirit draws us to God, in whose presence we can know true joy. Without the Holy Spirit, no one would seek God (Psalm 16:11; Matthew 2:10).

PEACE

At birth, our sinful nature has already declared war on God and His truth. However, God’s methods of warfare are not what we expected. Instead of a battle, He sent us the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus’ goal in coming to earth was more than simply to cease hostilities; He came to bring about a full and abiding relationship of restoration and love. The cost of this peace was His life (Isaiah 53:5). Hence, the fruit of the Spirit includes a peace that goes beyond that of salvation. It is a sweet relationship. We are called to His presence (Ephesians 2:11-18) and called to be confident in that presence (Hebrews 4:16) because we are His friends (John 15:15). God’s peace transcends earthly matters and it is void of anxiety (Philippians 4:4-7). The Spirit-filled Christian has a peace that is abundant, available in every situation, and unlike anything that the world has to offer (John 14:27). The alternative to being filled with the Spirit and His peace is to be filled with alarm, doubt, fear and dread.

CONCLUSION:

As believers, we must allow God to work in our hearts and in our relationships by laying down our own schedule and trust in God. Through the help of the Holy Spirit we can experience and manifest true joy and peace.

QUESTIONS:

1. The spirit’s production of joy can manifest in several different ways. Mention them?

2. Describe true peace.

Evangelists and Zionists praise President Trump at White House Hanukkah party

President Trump promised the 250 guests on Thursday evening that the evening would be “all about Jerusalem”.

He added: “Well I know for a fact there are a lot of happy people in this room.

“I think this one will go down as especially special.”

Christian vice-president Mike Pence, Sheldon Adelson, the hotel magnate and Zionist donor, and Jewish Republican legislators were among those who attended and ate kosher lamb chops, just as in past years, for White House Hanukkah parties.

However no Democratic congress people were invited to the event, despite the fact that 28 of the 30 Jewish House members are Democrats.

Representatives from Jewish groups, who disagree with Mr Trump recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, were also omitted from the guest-list.

Bishop Munib Younan from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land told Premier that Mr Trump’s decision “added fuel to the fire”.

He was one of 13 Christian leaders in Israel who wrote an open letter to the President asking him to promote peace instead of destruction.

Meanwhile, Two Hamas members have been killed in Israeli air strikes following a rocket attack on Israel, Gaza officials said.

The Israeli military said it targeted four Hamas facilities early Saturday in response to rockets fired the previous day, including one that landed in the town of Sderot without causing casualties or major damage.

Thoughts on the Restoration of Fallen Pastors — Jared Wilson

When a pastor has disqualified himself from his ministry, is he disqualified from ministry altogether? If so, for how long? Forever? Can he ever be restored? If so, how soon? These sorts of questions are not new, but they do seem more relevant than ever. While there are lots of articles out there on “fallen pastors,” I’ve been surprised to discover few deal with these questions in an in-depth way. I won’t pretend to provide a comprehensive treatment of this difficult subject in this post, but I do want to share some biblical reflections and practical implications I’ve been ruminating on for a while. This subject hits fairly close to home, as I think it does for many. It behooves us to think carefully and biblically about these matters.

The Most Important Part of Your Sermon — Erik Reed

I had a seminary professor once say, “You have to begin in Nashville before you head to Jerusalem.” His point was that if you do not meet listeners where they are and engage them where they live, you will have a hard time getting them to the truths of the Bible, and more particularly, to the relevance of the cross of Christ for their lives. The introduction of the message is what helps listeners know where you are going and whether or not they want to go with you. In this regard, the first five minutes of your message may be the most important of all of them. In light of that, I want to give…

The song at the free event will be sung by Sunderland’s school children, local choirs and church musicians, during the carol celebration.

The day’s festivities will be run entirely by volunteers from Connect Network – a network that brings Christians, churches and communities together to help transform Sunderland.

Deb Fozzard, Director of Connect Network said: “We’re delighted that Ha’way in a Manger is now in its third year.

“Christmas is an important date for Christians and Connect Network is so pleased to have the opportunity to share hope and joy with everyone in the local community.

“Everyone is invited and you don’t have to be Christian to enjoy the festive fun on offer. We look forward to welcoming people of all faiths, or none, to join us in a joyful celebration of the spirit of the season, and the wonderful city of Sunderland.”

However, the event will also include activities directed towards prayer.

Connect Network

Prayer stations will provide people of all ages the opportunity to be creative and thoughtful, as they will be able to decorate baubles hanging them as prayers or enjoy a sweet treat from a pick ‘n’ mix prayer stall, which will give candy bags containing reminders of the meaning behind Christmas.

Ha’way in a Manger will be running from 2pm to 5pm at Park Lane Shopping Village and there will be no charge for activities.

Saudi crown prince may be mystery buyer of Christ painting by Leonardo da Vinci

US intelligence assessments seen by the New York Times and Wall Street Journal identified Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the heir to the Saudi throne, as the buyer of the Renaissance artist’s work.

Reports initially identified the buyer of Salvator Mundi, Italian for Saviour of the World, as Prince Bader bin Abdullah, an ally of Prince Mohammed but he is now believed to have been acting as an intermediary.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism announced this week that it has acquired Leonardo da Vinci’s painting and that it will go on display at Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Displaying the artwork in the Arab state will be controversial as Muslims believe Jesus is a prophet rather than the Saviour and some conservative scholars frown on or condemn the portrayal of God’s messengers in artwork.

The masterpiece has been hailed as one of the greatest artistic rediscoveries of the last 100 years.

At the time of the sale in November, the buyer was unidentified and was involved in a bidding contest, via telephone, that lasted nearly 20 minutes.

Fresh call for Justin Welby to head inquiry into vice-chancellor’s pay

His recommendation comes after it emerged that the former vice-chancellor of Bath Spa University was handed more than £800,000 in her final year.

Speaking during the annual Lords debate led by Most Rev Justin Welby, Lord Adonis recommend limits and governance reforms to deal with the “scandal” of vice-chancellor pay.

The former Labour cabinet minister noted that some had likened themselves to Diego Maradona or Sir Richard Branson.

Accounts for Bath Spa University show Prof Christina Slade was paid £429,000 “for loss of office” on top of her £250,000 salary and other benefits.

Glynis Breakwell, vice-chancellor of nearby Bath University, was forced to step down last week following an outcry over her £468,000 pay package.

Jo Johnson, the universities minister, has called on universities to restrain pay of senior management after research from University and College Union (UCU) showed the average pay for vice-chancellors had risen to £278,000 in 2015-16.

Lord Adonis criticised Johnson on Twitter for her “silence” as details of vice-chancellor’s pay comes to light.
