Experiment Reveals Potency of Ultrasound in Treatment of Disease

A study has revealed that ultrasound can be key in the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological diseases in the future.

An experiment that tested a macaque monkey and sheep has revealed that directing bursts of inaudible acoustic energy at a specific visual area of the brain can control the animals’ responses. The results, which were presented at the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting held recently, revealed that focused ultrasound used in the said animals could safely and effectively alter brain activity rather than destroy tissue.

“The finding paves the way to noninvasive stimulation of specific brain regions in humans,” says Jan Kubanek, a neural engineer at Stanford University School of Medicine and lead author of the experiment on the macaque.

While the technology has yet to be tested on humans, it is now believed that it may be used for the treatment of neurological diseases and disorders like Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, addiction, and depression one day. In fact, although Dr. Helen Mayberg of the Emory University School of Medicine is not involved in the experiment, she can’t help but be optimistic about the results of the study. After all, science has yet to successfully develop a cure for Parkinson’s Disease patients although there are medicines, such as Levodopa, Duopa, or Mirapex that can help them manage the symptoms.

“The idea that, with a very carefully designed dose, you could actually deliver (focused ultrasound) and stimulate the brain in the place you want and modulate a circuit…

Open Heavens 3 December 2017: Sunday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Tithing Is Trusting

Open Heavens 3 December 2017: Sunday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Tithing Is Trusting

Topic: Tithing Is Trusting — Sunday 3, December 2017.

Memorise: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.Proverbs 3:5

Read: Proverbs 3:5-7 (KJV)

5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 93-101, Nahum 3:5-19, Hymn: Sing Hymn 14 – Take My Life

MESSAGE:

To experience exploits in your life, you must have a personal relationship with God. You must believe that He lives and love Him with all your heart. You must also learn to trust in Him. The command to pay tithes on your earnings simply places a demand on you to trust God. Your response to this command shows the level of trust you have in Him. If you can pay your tithes correctly, it shows that you trust God for your livelihood, but if you find it difficult to be faithful in doing this, it simply shows that you trust more in your earning than in God to sustain you. After I became newly born again and we were taught to pay tithes, I laughed and said in my mind, “These people do not know that I am a mathematician. If 100% is not enough for me, how can 90% be enough after I have paid 10% as tithe? Thank you very much! Even though these people are not educated, they still want to use their smartness to take 10% of my income from me. Let them try and take it”. However, down the line, God convinced me by Himself and I observed remarkable changes in my life.

In those days, I was a lecturer in the university. I had a car but was afraid to drive in Lagos, so I got a driver. At the end of the month, I would pay my driver his salary, but by the middle of the next month, I would have to borrow money from him to buy petrol (gasoline). This happened month after month. I continued to struggle with my finances and even had to spend all my earnings. However, when I started paying my tithes, I suddenly realized I did not need a driver anymore, because boldness came from nowhere and I could now drive myself. Also, I did not have to visit hospitals again because I now had the Great Physician as my doctor. My children did not fall sick again, and that leakage in my finances was blocked off. All of a sudden, doors of opportunities began to open to me because I trusted the Lord. Are you still struggling with tithing? If you are, it only shows that you do not trust God to take care of you. The truth is, whatever you are paid may never be sufficient to meet all your needs because you are limited to that source, whereas you are open to various devourers. In contrast, when you tithe, you will have access to resources beyond your income because God’s storehouse will be opened to you, and he will also block every source of losses in your life. It is a matter of choice. Why don’t you start trusting God from today by paying your tithes faithfully?

Key Point: It is shocking to know that quite a number of God’s children cannot trust God with their finances.

Hymn 14: Take My Life

1. Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Enrichment, Interactive Toys are Ideal Gifts for Dogs, Expert Says

REUTERS/ Erin SiegalA chihuahua enjoys a treat at the annual chihuahua Christmas party at the Happy Paws pet resort in New York, December 9, 2006.

More and more people include their pets on the list of those they need to buy presents for at Christmas, and a dog training expert has recommended what these pet owners should buy, especially for dogs, in the event, they decide to give one for their well-loved furry family member this Christmas.

According to reports, sales of Christmas presents for pets have increased by 300 percent in the past two years, and they get swankier every time. While not all people are keen on the idea of giving Christmas presents to their pets, an animal expert has given a list of ideal Christmas presents that people can get for their pets should they decide to give one.

For professional dog trainer Michelle Douglas of The Refined Canine, some of the best gifts owners can give to their dogs this Christmas are those that can safely provide fun to dogs. According to Douglas, enrichment toys, such as slow-bowls, food puzzles, stuff-able toys, and long-lasting chew toys are great Christmas presents for animals, especially dogs, as they provide them mental stimulation.

Apart from the so-called enrichment toys, Douglas also recommends presents that can improve the quality time between a pet and his masters. According to the professional dog trainer, interactive toys, such as flirt pole and toys for playing fetch or tug are also to be considered as great Christmas presents for dogs.

Meanwhile, despite the growing popularity of Christmas presents for pets, though, giving one…

World’s Longest-Lasting Rainbow Seen Over Taiwan for 9 Hours

(Screengrab: YouTube/The AIO Entertainment)World’s longest lasting rainbow appears in Taipei, Taiwan, for nine hours on November 30, 2017.

A rainbow appeared in the sky above Taiwan’s capital Taipei this week and lasted for nine hours to become the longest-lasting rainbow in history, two scientists have claimed.

The rainbow appeared at 6:57 a.m. local time and was seen until 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, say Chou Kun-hsuan and Liu Ching-huang, both professors in the Department of Atmospheric Science of Chinese Culture University in Taipei city, according to Taiwan News.

The previous longest-lasting rainbow was seen for six hours in Wetherby in Yorkshire, U.K. on March 14, 1994.

The scientists said the rainbow lasted for such a long time because a monsoon was effecting northern Taiwan, Brinkwire.com.

“This was a gift from the sky,” professor Chou was quoted as saying. “I was shaking when I observed a six-hour rainbow, but this was a miracle [to me], being able to capture a rainbow with such long duration.”

Chou said four rainbows appeared in the sky Thursday, which included a primary rainbow and a secondary rainbow. “Besides the two main rainbows that are easily observed, the other two are known as supernumerary rainbows, which are less obvious to see due to the difference in the size of rain drops,” he was quoted as saying.

The professor was actually trying to prove a theory claiming that a rainbow would descend seven degrees by height every 30 minutes, but his research ended up witnessing the longest-lasting rainbow.

He plans to pass the information to…

RCCG Sunday School Teacher’s Manual 3rd December 2017 Lesson 14

RCCG Sunday School Teacher's Manual 3rd December 2017 Lesson 14

TOPIC — THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: LOVE AS A COMPONENT [SUNDAY, 3RD DECEMBER 2017]

OPENING PRAYER:

Father, let me bring forth the fruit of the Spirit always

BIBLE PASSAGE: GALATIANS 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

MEMORY VERSE:

Galatians 5:25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

LESSON INTRODUCTION

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is the result of the Holy Spirit’s presence and operation in the life of a Christian. ‘Fruit’ is the natural result growth. And ‘of the spirit’ explains exactly who causes that growth. It is not our striving or straining, but the power of the Holy Spirit. No amount of human toil or gritty determination can produce spiritual fruit, but the Spirit’s influence in a yielded heart can miracles. The Bible makes it clear that everyone receives the Holy Spirit the moment he or she believes in Jesus Christ. Rom8:9; 1 Cor.12:13; Eph 1:13-14. One of the primary purposes of the Holy Spirit coming into a Christian’s life is to change that life. It is Holy Spirit’s job to conform us to the image of Christ, making us more like him. Our sinful flesh produces certain types of fruit that reflect our nature. Gal5:19-21, and the Holy Spirit produces types of fruit that reflect His nature.

TEST REVIEW: Galatians 5:22-23

Galatians 5:16 cautions believers as follows: “……. walk in the spirit and ye shall not fulfill the list of the flesh”. Why? It is because those who walk and live habitually in the Holy Spirit, responsive to controlled and guided by the spirit not gratify the cravings and desire of the flesh. Why? Verse.17 explains that the flesh (human nature without God) is continually antagonistic and in constant conflict with the Holy Spirit. True believers therefore can not claim to have small flesh and small spirit since the duo of the spirit and the flesh do not agree. In the light of this, a true believer cannot love (fruit of the spirit) Galatians 5:22, and at the same time love (work of the flesh) Galatians 5:20.

Love is an embodiment of patience, kindness, humility, truth, holiness and faith. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. While hatred on the other hand has in its family: pride, rudeness, selfishness, evil, injustice, unrighteousness, unbelief, hopelessness and failure. 1Cor. 13:4-8; love is virtue, hate is a vice. They are non-complementary. Gal. 5:16.

LESSON OUTLINE 1

COMPONENTS OF THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

i. The fruit of the spirit is one with many characteristics. Gal 5:22-23

ii. The fruit of the spirit is produced by the Holy Spirit. Gal5:16; 18. The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth. James3:17-18

iii. The fruit of the Spirit is the fruit of reghteousness sown in peace , pure wisdom from above, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Gal 5:22-23

iv. The Lord Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit helped believers to conquer the godless nature of the flesh. Phil4:13; Gal5:18.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1

Why is it difficult for the unbelievers to bear the fruit of the spirit?

LESSON OUTLINE 2

LOVE

i. There are three [3] fundamental categories of love. These are ‘Eros’, ‘Phileo’ and Agape

ii. The Holy Spirit’s kind of love in believers is Agape

iii. Love is a choice and not feeling

iv. Agape is not very simple to explain because it goes beyond human imagination. For instance, how can we explain the love that made Jesus offer Himself for His friends and the whole world? John15:13; 1 John3:16; Luke6:35 and John3:16

v. God demonstrated true agape to sinful man by offering the Lord Jesus who was sinless. Rom5:8

vi. Believers are required to demonstrate love to God, Love to neighbours. Matthew22:35-40

vii. True love is demonstrated by believers through obedience to the commandments of God. 1 Cor.13:4-8

CLASS ACTIVITY 2

Find out what true love does not do according to 1Cor. 13:4-8

SUMMARY

The first fruit of the Spirit is Agape’ kind of love

CONCLUSION

Believers must bear the fruit of love to God and neighbours always.

4 Phrases for Preachers to Avoid — Daryl Crouch

Both written and oral words are opportunities for the Holy Spirit to communicate with power. Written words, however, are subject to the editor’s judgment before going public. The extemporaneous nature of preaching, on the other hand, while engaging, can also produce unhelpful words that distract from the message of God. Anyone who preaches feels the weight of this, and we have all replayed unforced errors in our mind on Sunday afternoon only to hold out hope for a forgiving, or at least a forgetful, congregation. So prayer, sound exegesis, and common sense help us to preach better sermons. Avoiding these four phrases falls into the latter category.

Five Key Sources for Sermon Illustrations and Why They are Important — Sam Rainer

Illustrations also help the listener to understand your points, especially the more abstract or theological ones. You know those technical manuals that “help” you put together cheap furniture? That’s your sermon without any illustrations. They may get the job done, but nobody will enjoy them. Where do I get my sermon illustrations? I have five key sources.

Help for the Beat-Up Pastor — Erik Raymond

I’ve seen it far too many times. Upon exchanging general pleasantries, there is a look and a sigh that says it all. This pastor is beaten up. He is hurting. Talking further reveals that he feels as stable emotionally as a Jenga tower engineered by a 5-year-old….
