Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin from Moscow responded after a Russian theologian claimed he should be held to account after the Meteor M 2-1 weather satellite failed to enter orbit.

Andrei Kurayev told the Govorit Moskva radio station: “It is very strange that the Church seemingly offers services but is never held liable for the quality of these services.”

Eighteen micro-satellites from seven countries were also on-board a Soyuz-2 booster rocket which was launched from the new Vostochyn cosmodrome in the Russian Far East after being blessed by Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin.

Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin said the claim he was responsible for the satellite launch failure amounted to “quasi-Christian paganism”, during an interview with the Nation News website.

Meanwhile, the Russian Roscosmos space agency said it was working to establish what had happened after contact was lost with the Meteor M 2-1 satellite.

Another Russian Orthodox Church priest was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as defending Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, saying: “Let’s put it this way: if you bless a car that has an empty gas tank, it won’t start.”

“We address our prayers to God, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of human error or breakages.”

According to the Egypt Independent, Rasha Magdi made the comment when reporting on last Friday’s terror attack on a mosque that killed more than 300 people and injured more than 100 others.

The national paper reported that Magdi went off-script during her show and said: “We saw attacks by terrorists on the police and army, and we said this is mutual violence.

“These extremist groups have attacked churches and we said that they think it is a [different] religion, not Islam, and it is hostile to them, and then we said it is okay, but how [can these groups attack] Muslims?”

Mohamed Abu al-Enein, owner of Sada al-Balad Media Group, suspended Magdi after an internal investigation into what were deemed inappropriate comments.

He said in a statement: “We in Egypt are one people, there is no difference between a Muslim and a Christian.

“All of us are equal. We live together in safety…terrorism and aggression against the [people] are criminal acts.”

It’s been reported that Magdi has been involved in several legal cases after being accused of inciting hatred against Egyptian Coptic Christians while working for the state television network.

In April 2017, 45 people were killed in two suicide attacks at churches on Palm Sunday.

Rev Zoe Heming, who is the enabling church advisor for the Lichfield Diocese and a wheelchair user, said there were a number of reasons she wasn’t convinced by the government’s target.

She told Premier: “It sounds like a really good soundbite for some PR.

“But it does feel like another one of those vague targets, which seems to be in the opposite direction of most of the action that the government has taken recently in terms of cuts to support services.”

Theresa May said she’s committed to tackling the injustices those who want to work face.

Rev Heming outlined to Premier what the government needs to do if it really wants to help people with disabilities.

She explained: “Reversing some of the decisions that they have made, such as cuts to employment support allowances.

She also added: “Having a much shorter target, as 10 years is a very long time for a very vague number of one million.”

The Government has also vowed to reform statutory sick pay in the wake of a major review of mental health and employers.

Mrs May said: “The path a person takes in life and in work should not be dictated by their disability or health condition.
