Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s Daily November 30, 2017 Devotional: Abide in the Word

Topic: Abide in the Word [Thursday November 30, 2017]

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. – John 15:7

That word abide is so important. When Jesus told us to obey His commandments and keep His Word, He wasn’t just telling us to follow a bunch of religious rules and regulations.

He was telling us to allow His Word—which is a living thing!—to make its home within us. He was telling us to spend time with it, to meditate on it, to fill our minds and our mouths with it, and to let it guide our every action.

The Apostle Paul put it this way, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…” (Colossians 3:16). Most believers don’t have any idea what that means. That’s one of the reasons they’re so short on power.

Oral Roberts once said that when the Word is really abiding in you, when it’s alive and producing like it should, you can hear it. You know what it’s like when you get a song on your mind and you just keep hearing it over and over inside you? Well, when you start abiding in the Word, you’re probably going to hear it in much that same way.

Many times, I’ve been in desperate situations, wondering what I was going to do when suddenly I’d hear a scripture down on the inside of me. Suddenly, I’d know exactly what the answer to my situation was. I’d be delivered by the Word of God that was dwelling in me.

So, invite the Holy Spirit to go to work on your behalf. Just keep telling Him, “Whatever You bring to my remembrance from the Word is exactly what I’m going to act on. I’m going to be obedient to every command of Jesus that You bring to mind.”

Make a quality decision to abide in the Word. You’ll soon discover that the Word is abiding in you.

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1-16

Our Daily Bread 30 November 2017 Devotional – Imperfect, Yet Loved

Topic: Imperfect, Yet Loved — Thursday November 30, 2017.

Read: Luke 7:36–50, Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 37–39; 2 Peter 2

God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

In Japan, food products are immaculately prepared and packaged. Not only must they taste good but they must look good too. Often I wonder if I am purchasing the food or the packaging! Because of the Japanese emphasis on good quality, products with slight defects are often discarded. However, in recent years wakeari products have gained popularity. Wakeari means “there is a reason” in Japanese. These products are not thrown away but are sold at a cheap price “for a reason”—for example, a crack in a rice cracker.

My friend who lives in Japan tells me that wakeari is also a catchphrase for people who are obviously less than perfect.

Jesus loves all people—including the wakeari who society casts aside. When a woman who had lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at a Pharisee’s house, she went there and knelt behind Jesus at His feet, weeping (Luke 7:37–38). The Pharisee labeled her “a sinner” (v. 39), but Jesus accepted her. He spoke gently to her, assuring her that her sins were forgiven (v. 48).

Jesus loves imperfect, wakeari people—which includes you and me. And the greatest demonstration of His love for us is that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). As recipients of His love, may we be conduits of His love to the flawed people around us so they too may know that they can receive God’s love despite their imperfections.

Prayer: I know I’m not perfect, Lord, so help me not to be hypocritical and pretend I have it all together. Open my heart to others in acceptance and love so that they might know Jesus’s concern for them.

Broken people are made whole by God’s love.

Somali Muslims Break In, Beat Children of Christian Widow in Kenya

Somali Muslims Break In, Beat Children of Christian Widow in Kenya

Hard-line Muslims on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya attacked a Christian widow’s children, ages 13, 17 and 21, leaving two of them seriously injured and still in pain 11 days after the assault, sources said.

Hadiya (surname withheld), an immigrant from Somalia, had not yet returned from a trip to a funeral when the assailants of Somali descent broke into her home at a town (undisclosed for security reasons) outside of Nairobi, at 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 17.

Hadiya’s 17-year-old daughter was asleep in her room, while the brothers (siblings’ names withheld for security reasons) were asleep in the front room, when the Muslim gang knocked on their door, the older brother told Morning Star News. The brothers asked who was at the door.

Refusing to identify themselves, the Muslims smashed a window, the older brother said.

“We have warned you several times to stop taking the children to church,” one shouted, he said. “You have become an embarrassment to our clan as well as the entire Muslim community. We are here today to finish you and your children.”

Their sister began screaming as the assailants broke in through the window, and the three siblings tried to escape through the door, Hadiya said. The gang beat them so much that blood was found throughout the front room, a Christian neighbor told Morning Star News.

Neighbors soon arrived and…

Kidnappings, Threats of Massacre Terrorize Christians in Kano State, Nigeria

Kidnappings, Threats of Massacre Terrorize Christians in Kano State, Nigeria

When the 50-year-old church elder and leader of Kano state’s Samaila village heard gunshots shortly before midnight, he rushed out of his house to try to find security agents.

It was a natural reaction for Mai’angwa Samaila, given recent Islamist attacks in northern Nigeria. What the elder for the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) did not know was that the armed Islamic extremists, having killed two Christians in front of their Catholic church building, were coming for him next.

Not finding him at home that night (Aug. 15), they instead kidnapped his wife, Safiya Samaila, 45. They then kidnapped two other women, 20-year-old Yaha Gabriel and Hauwa Bebi, 18, both members of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Samaila, in Tudun Wada Local Government Area (LGA).

Such kidnappings, along with threats of massacres by Islamic extremists, are continuing with the approval of some state officials in a concerted effort to eliminate Christianity, church leaders said.

Mai’angwa Samaila told Morning Star News how the killing of Yohanna Audu, 45, and Audu’s son, 18-year-old Micah Yohanna Audu, and the kidnappings were carried out. The gunmen first went to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where Yohanna Audu, a church member whose house is beside the Catholic building, went outside.

“He went to find out who were the men on the premises…

number of gay weddings at churches

Researchers at Leeds and York universities have concluded 182 venues have registered to hold same-sex weddings, while approximately half of those have actually hosted one.

They reported: “Over half of the places of worship that have solemnized a same-sex marriage have done so on only one occasion.

“Nineteen places of worship report that they have solemnized one same-sex marriage, eight report that they have solemnized two same-sex marriages, and four report that they have solemnized three same-sex marriages.

“Only five places of worship have solemnized four or more same-sex marriages, with the highest number of same-sex marriages solemnized in any place of worship reported as 10.”

The academics said the number remains “very small”, compared to the 40,000 places of worships currently prohibited from holding same-sex weddings.

Baptists, Lutherans, Unitarians, the United Reformed Church, and other designated religions – included Buddhists – were included in the study.

The academics conclude that same-sex couples wanting to marry in a religious setting face a “significant disadvantage”, compared to heterosexual couples.

Study co-author, Dr Silvia Falcetta, from York’s Department of Sociology, said: “This report shows that same-sex couples are at a significant disadvantage to different-sex couples, because same-sex couples are more likely to live in an area where there is no scope to be married in a place of…

Topic: Overcoming Like Jesus — Thursday 30, November 2017.

Memorise: To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Revelation 3:21

Read: Revelation 3:21-22 (KJV)

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 78-80, Micah 7:8-20, Hymn: Sing Hymn 2 – What A Friend We Have In Jesus

MESSAGE:

Man’s surest source of rest is Jesus Christ because He never breaks His promises (Matthew 11:28-29, 2 Corinthians 1:20). In John 16:33, He assures us that as long as we are in this world, tribulations and problems will come, but because He successfully overcame them, He will see us through if we put our trust in Him. Therefore, because He overcame and we are following in His footsteps, we are also bound to overcome. Are you struggling with sin and expressing doubts on whether you can ever overcome like Jesus did? Fear not and do not doubt! You can overcome that besetting sin! The truth with such sin is that the one who keeps falling into them has not truly made up his or her mind to stop them. The Bible declares that sin shall not have dominion over you, and God cannot lie (Romans 6:14). If you are therefore falling into sin and you probe yourself a little deeper, you will find some level of tolerance for that sin, or some excuse you always give for that sin, or even some iota of likeness for that sin. If the devil can find any of these in you, he will celebrate, knowing that any of these can keep you perpetually at the bus stop of that sin. If you are serious about stopping a bad habit, you will have zero-tolerance for it.

“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” – Revelation 3:21

God does not have double standards in the criteria He uses for allowing people into Heaven, or for giving them rewards for work done on earth. Jesus Christ is God’s standard. So if you will enter into eternal rest in Heaven, you must meet with God’s standard as exemplified by Jesus Christ. If you will be rewarded by God in heaven, Jesus says you must be prepared to overcome the same way He overcame while He was here on earth. You can run the Christian race without stress when you follow in His steps. Have you taken pains to study the life of Jesus? Have you noted how He responded to temptations, sin, enemies, friends, difficulties, lack, needs, challenges in ministry, and betrayal by associates? God expects you to respond as Jesus did in all these situations. If you do so, you will be granted access to the privileges reserved for overcomers in Heaven.

Key Point: You cannot overcome if you fail to study Jesus Christ and respond to situations the way He did.

Hymn 2: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

Christian charity calls for shock to turn into action after Libya slave trade video

Its plea came after CNN released shocking video footage of Africans being sold into slavery in Libya.

Excerpts of the video have been shared on social media and sparked outrage by many.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S2qtGisT34]

It has prompted a petition asking for the UK government to put pressure on Libya to stop enslavement of Africans. So far 90,000 thousand people have signed it.

Tim Nelson, international development director for Hope for Justice, told Premier what his reaction was to the footage.

He said: “The images bring home the reality of what slavery is today.

“It’s particularly shocking to see victims being chained and being sold, and what I also remember is through the work Hope for Justice does in the UK, we’ve seen trafficking gangs sell victims in the exact same way.”

Since the video and images went viral, a national anti- slavery march to the Libyan Embassy in London has been organised for next Saturday.

Nelson told Premier social media has been a useful platform to make people aware of important issues like modern day slavery.

He said: “There are 24.9 million people globally that are held in slavery. This brings to home those people’s plight.

“It’s not always the use of chains, quite often we see things like threats and exploitation – the reality is still the same for those victims.”

However, he encouraged people to not let their initial passion for the issue fade away, and said churches should invite speakers so congregations are…
