Church of Sweden Advocates for ‘More Inclusive’ Pronoun to Refer to God

Church of Sweden Advocates for ‘More Inclusive’ Pronoun to Refer to God

The Church of Sweden adopted a new handbook last week that encourages clergy in the church to stop using solely masculine references to God.

“We talk about Jesus Christ, but in a few places we have changed it to say ‘God’ instead of ‘he,’” Church of Sweden spokesperson Sofija Pedersen Videke told The U.K. Telegraph. “We have some prayer options that are more gender-neutral than others.”

The spokeswoman said the change was for language to become “more inclusive.”

The new handbook does not completely remove the masculine pronoun to refer to God.

In one example released by the church, the language reads: ““God, Holy Trinity, Father and Mother, Son – Sister and Brother, and Spirit – Lifeguard and Inspirator, lead us to your depths of wealth, wisdom and knowledge.”

“Theologically, for instance, we know that God is beyond our gender determinations, God is not human,” said Archbishop Antje Jackelén.

However, not everyone is applauding the changes.

Christer Pahlmblad, an associate theology professor at Lund University in Sweden, said the change was “undermining the doctrine of the Trinity and the community with other Christian churches.”

Mikael Löwegren, commissioner for the church in Småland Ljungby, said the decision shows that the Church of Sweden has “ceased to exist as a coherent spiritual community.”

Christian charity warns against hiding debt from partners after new study

The report, titled “In too deep: an investigation into debt and relationships” by relationship charity Relate, found 14 per cent of those with debt say they have kept it secret from a partner and 7 per cent of those with debt are currently hiding it.

Half of those surveyed said feeling ashamed is the most common reason why people hide their money problems, followed by 46 per cent who said they would be scared of their partner’s reaction.

A third of those with hidden debts felt their partner had a different approach to money.

Helen Webb from CAP told Premier why she thinks people aren’t being open about their finances.

She said: “I think people are struggling to learn how to talk to each other in general.

“It’s not just within the relationship, but also outside of them because money is such a sensitive issue.”

The report also highlighted how debt can cause conflict, mistrust and relationship breakdowns.

The survey of 4,700 UK adults found that one in six adults find meeting financial commitments a heavy burden.

Of these:

  • One in five has experienced the breakdown of a relationship with a partner where debt was either the main reason or a contributing factor.
  • Nearly four in 10 said it has had a negative impact on their relationship with their partner.
  • A quarter argues about money, debt, and/or other financial issues with their partner at least once a fortnight.
  • Nearly one in 10 said they argue with their children…

Drinking 3 to 4 Cups of Coffee a Day Offers More Health Benefits than Harm, Study Reveals

REUTERS/Osman OrsalA waiter carries two cups of Turkish coffee at a coffee shop in Istanbul.

While there is no denying that coffee is the most popular morning beverage for many people from around the globe, a recent study has revealed that it does not only deliver perking effects, thanks to its aroma and taste, but benefits one’s health, too.

A recent study has revealed that drinking three to four cups of coffee a day comes with more benefits than harm as far as a person’s health is concerned. Based on the study, it has been discovered that those who drink three to four cups of coffee a day are at a lower risk of death regardless of the cause or due to a heart disease.

The study has also revealed that people who drink coffee are at a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, gallstones, renal stones and gout. While the study also suggests that coffee drinkers are less likely to develop some types of cancer, Parkinson’s disease, depression and Alzheimer’s disease, the results of the research point that those people who have certain liver diseases benefit the most from drinking coffee moderately on a regular basis.

Although the results of the study are nothing short of promising, the public is cautioned about increasing their intake of coffee for the purpose of becoming healthier as it is solely based on observational research. While nothing is conclusive as of yet, the researchers believe that people who drink coffee regularly as a part of their daily routine are possibly getting more health benefits rather than harm.

“Our research is about coffee. It’s not about sugar,…

‘I Do Not Understand’ Christian Support for Donald Trump

(PHOTO: ANDREW WINNING/REUTERS)The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, pauses at the start of the day’s proceedings at the General Synod, in Church House in central London on Nov. 20, 2013.

Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the Church of England, has said that he does not understand Christians who support American President Donald Trump.

Welby told ITV Preston on Sunday that he would be open to meet with Trump, explaining that he has met “lots of other people as well.”

“I spent years and years involved in conflict stuff around the world where I met people who had killed many, many people,” Welby stated.

“You know, part of the job is to meet people you disagree with, and to testify with the love of Christ to them and to seek to draw them in to a different way,” he added.

When asked about the “support from fundamentalist Christians” in America that Trump receives, the Anglican leader responded:

“There’s two things going through my mind: do I say what I think, or do I say what I should say?

“And I’m going to say what I think,” Welby responded.

“No, I don’t understand it. I really genuinely do not understand where that is coming from.”

Welby has expressed issues with Trump in the past. In January 2016, when Trump was still a Republican candidate, he…

Open Heavens 28 November 2017: Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Knowledge and Prayer

Open Heavens 28 November 2017: Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Knowledge and Prayer

Topic: Knowledge and Prayer — Tuesday 28, November 2017.

Memorise: But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.1 Peter  4:7

Read: Luke 21:34-36 (KJV)

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 69-72, Micah 5:7-6:8, Hymn: Sing Hymn 1 – My Faith Looks Up To Thee

MESSAGE:

In Philippians 3:10, Paul expressed his burning desire to know Jesus. It is good to have your gaze focused on Jesus and equally important to know Him. Why? It is because what you know determines your position in life. Knowledge is power. Proverbs 4:7 says,

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge for personal or corporate benefit. This implies that knowledge is the foundation of wisdom. If you want to be wise but you run away from knowledge, wisdom will elude you. How open you are to learning new things demonstrates your readiness to be wise. Men of wisdom like Paul and Daniel were given to reading books. Daniel chapter 9 is a manifestation of how knowledge acquired from the study of books can be applied positively in actions that have serious spiritual implications. Daniel 9:2 says,

“In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.”

Today, not many people take time to read decent books on various subjects that can add to their knowledge base. For believers, this should not be so. If there are people who should be knowledgeable, it should be believers. We should be conversant with our environment, and we should stay very current.

In Matthew 26:41, Jesus established a link between watching and praying. What are you required to do while watching? You are required to gather information, and to know what is happening around you. God wants you to be informed. Why? Knowledge about your situation will help you pray more effectively with understanding. If you want to succeed as a prayer champion, knowledge is crucial. When you watch, seek knowledge or gather information, it will compel you to pray more often. Find out, those Christians who are prayerless are often those without knowledge. They know too little, and so they do not see the need to pray. If people come to tell you lots of things or if they confide in you, it is because God wants you to stand in the place of intercession for them, rather than becoming a tale-bearer. Are you seeking knowledge? Is what you know making you to pray more?

Key Point: Daniel was provoked into indefinite prayer and fasting exercise by what he understood from what he studied (Daniel 9:1-3). Is your knowledge compelling you to pray?

Hymn 1: My Faith Looks Up To Thee

1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

Pope’s Myanmar trip to urge country to recognise human rights

He visits the country this week which has been accused by the United Nations of ‘textbook ethnic cleansing’ in their treatment of the mainly-Muslim Rohinga people.

Religious groups and Myanmar leaders will be watching to see if he uses the term ‘Rohinga’ as the Myanmar believe they are a stateless people and prefer to call them ‘Bengalis’.

However, Austen Ivereigh, former director of public affairs for the Archbishop of Westminster and Catholic commentator, explained there is much more significance to the Pope’s visit than just the immediate political crises.

Ivereigh explained: “Really there’s a much deeper issue which is how this nation, this very fledgling democracy, can recognise and incorporate its minorities, and there are many of them, not just the Rohinga but… among them of course are many Christians and Muslims.”

“The meeting with Buddhist leaders is going to be absolutely key to communicate the importance of building a society based on inclusion, tolerance, compassion and recognition of human rights and that’s really the patient, peace-building task of this visit.”

He added: “The real contribution of this is going to be long-term. This is country which  is suspiciously outside the world, very closed-in on itself, very, very poor. And this is a Pope who is coming without any strategic or diplomatic or commercial interest to help Myanmar find its place in the world.”

Samsung Galaxy S9 Release Date, Specs, Price News: Smartphone Details Leaked

Reuters/Kim Hong-JiSamsung Electronics’ Galaxy S8 smartphone is displayed during a media event in Seoul, South Korea.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 was supposed to be released next year however, details about the next big Android smartphone was leaked earlier this week. These include the device’s specs, price, and even release date but given that these are just leaks, Samsung fans better take this information with a grain of salt.

It’s only been a couple of months since the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 but it appears that the company is already hard at work on its next flagship model. It was reported earlier that the smartphone will be equipped with Qualcomm’s all-new Snapdragon 845 which should make it the fastest Android phone ever.

There are conflicting details about its RAM with some sites claiming it will come to 4 GB of RAM while others with 6 GB. However, given that the Galaxy Note 8 came with 6 GB earlier this summer, it’s probably safe to assume that it will be the latter.

However, Venturebeat revealed plenty more leaked details about the devices potential specs after it reported that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will make their first public appearance at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show.

According to the report, the S9 will be “an iterative update”, which will be “nearly identical in appearance” to the Galaxy S8. It will also feature the same 5.8in on the S8 and a 6.2in Infinity display on the Plus and boast a foldable OLED display.

More leaked details suggest that the device will also feature the latest Android operating system, Android Orea, along with a microSD slot,…

Church Elder and Missionary Gives Prophetic Word on Year 2018

Church Elder and Missionary Gives Prophetic Word on Year 2018

Bill Yount, an elder and home missionary at Bridge of Life Church in Hagerstown, Maryland has said he believes the world is going to change in major ways in 2018, and God is about to do big things.

“I sense 2018 will be a year of ‘everything at once,’” he writes in an article for .News.com. “All hell will break loose and all of heaven will break loose, but heaven is greater than hell. I sense the presence of a great cloud of heavenly witnesses, including family members, standing to cheer us on this coming year. The eyes of heaven are upon us, waving checkered flags in the distance.”

Yount acknowledged that 2018 is sure to bring many challenges, but as Christians, we can be confident that the Lord is at work in mighty ways.

“It will be a year like Houston being hit by a hurricane and winning the World Series. Extreme testings and extreme victories. Testings will bring them on. Priorities will change as these challenges show up,” he continues.

“I hear the Father saying, ‘Batten Down the Hatches.’ I sense this means the prayer closet will become a very important place in our lives. “Batten down the hatches,” I sense, refers to closing the door on distractions as we not only pray but listen to him speaking to us.”

Despite the trials and challenges of this coming year, Yount reminds us of an important truth: “Remember,” he writes, “Jesus lives…
