Pope prays for sailors aboard missing submarine in Argentina

The Argentine pontiff’s prayers come as Argentina’s Navy doubled its search for the sailors after picking up seven distress calls.

In a telegram addressed to Bishop Santiago Olivera, the head Military Ordinariate of Argentina, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin noted the Pope’s concern for the sailors, Vatican radio reports.

It also expressed the Pope’s spiritual closeness to the families of the sailors, and to the military and civil authorities of the nation.

He also noted the Holy Father’s encouragement for the efforts being made to find the vessel.

The Navy said on its Twitter account that the brief communication attempts “indicate that the crew is trying to re-establish contact, so we are working to locate the source of the emissions”.

However, Argentine authorities have clarified that it has not been confirmed the calls came from the submarine, the ARA San Juan.

Strong winds and twenty-foot waves continue to hinder the operation – with the UK among those helping.

Earlier on Saturday, Navy spokesman Enrique Balbi said the area being searched off the country’s southern Atlantic coast has been doubled as concerns about the crew’s fate grew.

He said there are a number of reasons to explain the submarine’s disappearance, including “a problem with communications” or with its power system.

Meanwhile, relatives of the crew members gathered at the Mar…

BIBLE PASSAGE: Numbers 16:1-5, 28-35; Rev 12:7-9.

Numbers 16:1-5:

1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

Numbers 16: 28-35:

28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.

30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

Revelation 12:7-9:

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

OPENING PRAYER

Prayer Point: Father, please don’t let me fall into the sin of rebellion and stubbornness, Amen

INTRODUCTION:

Rebellion is an open resistance towards a person or proof persons in authority. It is characterized by refusal to obey or carry out the instructions of the leader. It tends to set a parallel authority which often leads to confusion, disorderliness, confrontation and war. *1 Cor14:33* “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of saint” *Rom 13:1-2* “Let every soul be subject unto higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

LESSON OUTLINE

Common Features of Rebellion

I. Pride. Virtually all those who rebel are extremely proud. Ezekiel 28:14-17. 1Pet 5:5; Num 16:1-3

II. Stubbornness. 1Sam 15:23a For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…”

III. Disobedience: in rebellion, disobedience isnot accidental or by mistake, they deliberately and persistently disobey constituted authorityto resist the leadership. Num 16:3-14.

IV. Evil ambition to usurp power/leadership. Num 16:3 Isa14:12-14.

V. Wooing more converts to support their cause. What started with Korah, Dathan and Abiram soon had two hundred and fifty influential leaders. Num 16:1-2 and after disrespecting Moses publicly (Num 16:12-14); in verse 19, Korah gathered the whole congregation to his side before God intervened.

VI. Lying: there is a pattern in rebellious people, both young and old, of deceit. They create different personalities for different setsof people.vthwy make up half-histories of ilk treatment– legitimate claims, but highly selective. And they tell outright falsehoods.

The End of Rebellion is always Destruction

1. Disastrous judgement awaiting rebelsIn Numc16:21-33; 35, Korah, Dathan and Abiram, their families and houses were swallowed by the ground and the ground closed up on them.

2. Disgraceful Ending

3. Korah, Dathan and Abiram did not die alone but their innocent children were not spared either.

4. Their supporters numbering two hundred and fifty were consumed by God’s fire.

CONCLUSION

God has described rebellion as a sin (1 Sam 15:23a). ‘Rom 13 2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.’ Christians are expected to obey the Constituted authority placed over them Rom 13:1. The end of rebellion is usually disastrous and extensive. May we not partake in Rebellion be it in the Church or in any sector we find ourselves in Jesus Name.

TREM’s Daily 19 November 2017 Devotional by Dr. Mike Okonkwo - Christ Is In You

Topic: Christ Is In You — Sunday November 19, 2017.

“…Christ in you, the hope of glory:’’ (Colossians 1:27 KJV)

Beloved, Christ in you is the end of shame and embarrassment. Christ in you is the end of frustration, disappointment and failure. Today, I have come to remind you that God will do anything for the sake of Christ that is in you. Remember that He quickened you, raised you up and made you sit with Christ in heavenly places far above principalities and powers. That is why you can never fail.

However, it is not enough to know what God has done for you in Christ; the real question is what are you doing for the Kingdom? It is time to begin to use your God advantage to daze your world. With Jesus in the inside and working on the outside, you have more than what it takes. Remember Jesus didn’t have to die, but He did so you can walk in royalty. It is not God’s intention for you to beg for bread all the days of your life. God wants you to be a good specimen to the world. He wants you to be blessed. So refuse to be satisfied with the crumbs. Put on the imagination of success. Think big. Talk big.

In Genesis 11, God saw the determination in a set of people who were building a tower and He exclaimed and said nothing that they have imagined to do can fail. If you can imagine it or capture the picture inside you, it doesn’t matter how many are against you, I dare to tell you that it can work. Stay with your dream. Create what you want to see and pretty soon you will see a manifestation.

Everything that once stood against you will fall for your sake. I declare to you that you will sing your song and dance your dance. Settle it in your heart, that God who did not spare His only begotten Son Jesus, but gave Him to you, will also through Him freely give you all things. You cannot be denied. Christ is in you!

Andrew Wommack’s Daily 19 November 2017 Devotional: God’s Awesome Power

Topic: God’s Awesome Power [Sunday November 19, 2017]

John 18:6 “As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.”

Text: John 18:5-9

It is evident that it was the power of God that made these six hundred men fall backwards to the ground, but why did it happen when He said, “I am he”?

In this verse, and also in verse eight, the word “he” is italicized. That means that the word “he” was not in the original text but was added by the translators to make the sentence grammatically correct. This serves a useful purpose and is very helpful in most cases. However, the translators put these additions in italics so that we could be aware of what the text literally said.

In this instance, Jesus literally said, “I am.” Since Jesus was God manifest in the flesh, His statement of “I am,” carried just as much weight as when He expressed it to Moses (Ex. 3:14). This is nothing less than the Almighty God releasing His glory through the powerful statement, “I AM.” No wonder these men were knocked to the ground.

This graphically illustrates how Jesus could have easily defended Himself against any size army that would come to take His life. As He said in John 10:18, “No man taketh it (i.e. His life) from me, but I lay it down of myself.”

There are many instances recorded in scripture where people fell to the ground as a result of being in God’s presence. The same thing still happens today. Just as some people faint when they experience fear, when they experience the awesome presence of God, they become weak, and lose strength in their physical body.

Billy Graham’s Daily 19 November 2017 Devotional: Bridge the Gap

Billy Graham’s Daily 19 November 2017 Devotional: Bridge the Gap

Topic: Bridge the Gap [Sunday November 19, 2017]

Keep a close watch on all you do and think.
Stay true to what is right . . . — 1 Timothy 4:16 (TLB)

In searching for ways to bridge the generation gap, there is no doubt that we, as parents, will have to practice what we preach, by striving more and more to bring our conduct into line with our code of beliefs.

No mother can demand that her daughter abstain from sleeping around when she herself is flirting and on occasion compromising her own moral conduct. No father, who wavers between heavy social drinking and occasional binges to the edge of alcoholism, and who can’t speak a pleasant word in the morning until he has had a cigarette, can yell incessantly at his son to get off marijuana, the route that often leads to hard drugs.

Consistency, constancy, and undeviating diligence to maintain Christian character are a must if the older generation is to command respect, or even a hearing, from the young.

Prayer for the day: Younger eyes see my errant behavior, Lord. Help me to be the right example—one which will draw them to You.

Our Daily Manna November 19, 2017: ODM devotional – The Christ of the Lord

Topic: The Christ of the Lord [Sunday, November 19, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Acts 2: 22-42; Job 36:11

Oh thank God, it is another new day! The new emphasis in today’s Upper  Room  devotional encounter is Act 2:36: “ … that God has made that same Jesus , who you have crucified , both Lord and Christ” Glory to God! Note: BOTH LORD AND CHRIST! Most of us do not have problems understanding the power of THE CHRIST – He saved us through His death on the cross . He was the Christ when he died, but the story does not end there. He also arose from the grave of the stone and that was when God made Jesus the Lord.

God made him the Christ when he shouted , it is finished,  God made him the lord when he arose from the grave and sprinkled the heavenly tabernacle  with his blood on that first resurrection morning, use today devotion encounter  to re-dedicate your life to him as Lord. “LORD” means He Is the total, complete and supreme controller of every department in your life, Family and ministry.

When David disobeyed God, he was taking him as his shepherd, but not has his Lord. Most often, we want him as our salvation, but not as our Lord. Yes, most often, we want him as Jehovah Ropheka-the healer,  but not as Jehovah Adonai-the Lord,  Do we not desire him as Jehovah jireh – the provider and the supplier, but not Jehovah Adonai – the Lord? Why do we need Him as Jehovah shalom – our peace, but not as Jehovah Adonai – the Lord? King Saul disobeyed God and lost his throne! Prophet Job said, “If you obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasure” (Job 36:11).

As 2017 ends, drop that secret sin habit! Be faithful in your finances again! Refuse to tolerate or live with any known sin! Job 36:12 says: “If they obey not, they shall be killed by sword and they shall die without knowledge.” To obey is better than scarifies! Disobedience is deadly later! If He is not Lord for all, then He is not Lord at all! Pray now!

Prayer Points: Take your best worship song to God.

1. Thank God for another new day! You are alive! Pray about the word as it has touched you!

2. Surrender all to Him now! Lift up your hands again and pray, “Lord, I surrender TOTALLY the following areas of my life … (mention them) and re-dedicate your life to Him!

3. Pray in the morning, afternoon and evening of today’s prayer points.

Our Daily Bread 19 November 2017 Devotional – Seeing Masterpieces

Our Daily Bread 19 November 2017 Devotional – Seeing Masterpieces

Topic: Seeing Masterpieces — Sunday November 19, 2017.

Read: Psalm 139:11–18, Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 11–13; James 1

You knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13

My father creates custom quivers designed for archers to carry their arrows. He carves elaborate wildlife pictures into pieces of genuine leather, before stitching the material together.

During a visit, I watched him construct one of his works of art. His careful hands applied just the right pressure as he pressed a sharp blade into the supple leather, creating various textures. Then he dipped a rag into crimson dye and covered the leather with even strokes, magnifying the beauty of his creation.

As I admired my dad’s confident craftsmanship, I realized how often I fail to acknowledge and appreciate my heavenly Father’s creativity manifested in others and even in myself. Reflecting on the Lord’s magnificent workmanship, I recalled King David’s affirmation that God creates our “inmost being” and that we’re “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps. 139:13–14).

We can praise our Creator in confidence because we know His “works are wonderful” (v. 14). And we can be encouraged to respect ourselves and others more, especially when we remember that the Maker of the Universe knew us inside and out and planned our days “before one of them came to be” (vv. 15–16).

Like the pliable leather carved by my father’s skilled hands, we are each beautiful and valuable simply because we are God’s one-of-a-kind creations. Each one of us, intentionally designed to be unique and purposed as God’s beloved masterpieces, contributes to reflect God’s magnificence.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for creating us in Your perfect love. Please help us to see ourselves, and others, as Your unique masterpieces.

God masterfully creates each person with uniqueness and purpose.

Insight:

Like a potter, God shaped man from clay (Isa. 64:8) and breathed into him the breath of life (Gen. 2:7; Job 33:4). Humans are the only creatures privileged to have the breath of God, setting us apart from other creatures, for only humans are created “in the image of God” (Gen. 1:27). Each person is a unique individual, possessing the mental, emotional, and spiritual consciousness of our Creator and the capacity to have a personal relationship with Him. The Old Testament patriarch Job may be the first person to acknowledge that “[God’s] hands shaped me and made me. . . . [You clothed] me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews” (Job 10:8, 11–12). The prophet Jeremiah proclaimed that God had preordained his destiny and life even before he was formed in his mother’s womb! (Jer. 1:5). David, celebrating himself as one of God’s masterpieces, says that he has been “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God (Ps. 139:13–16).

Do you see yourself as God’s masterpiece? Reflect on how God has uniquely created you. Sim Kay Tee

DCLM Daily Manna 19 November, 2017 by Pastor Kumuyi – Be A Lily

Topic: Be A Lily — Sunday November 19, 2017.

Text: Jeremiah 23:9-22

Key Verse: “For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right” (Jeremiah 23:10).

The key verse in today’s text speaks about the land being full of spiritual adulterers. These were those who had given themselves over to idols. They even brought the idols into the temple in Jerusalem. Thus, the false prophets in Jerusalem were forcing the people to conform to their folly in reference to the idols. These full-time religious leaders preached for gain and led the people to commit spiritual adultery with false gods.

So, God lamented the spiritual state of Israel and how the people had allowed themselves to be overtaken by all manner of sins. He was particularly disappointed that even the prophets and priests were also profane in their conducts. Evil has taken hold of many societies so badly that vices have become a way of life. All manner of abominable things are happening within and around us and the shocking part of it all is that such things are found right within Christendom.

They have so become a way of life that it has become a pastime of people to advertise openly and proudly too that they travel that pernicious way. The Bible encourages those who know their God, to be strong and do more exploits. If people could be salvaged from Sodom and Gomorrah, however few, it means that God is still capable of saving souls and preserving them till the end no matter the level of depravity in the world.

Thought for the day: God’s grace is sufficient for us.
