Churches Should Close the Pay Gap for Women on StaffSam Rainer

Women on church staff tend to make less than men for similar roles. Depending on how researchers do the math, the current pay gap for women on church staff is between twenty-four cents and seven cents, meaning women make anywhere between seven percent and twenty-four percent less than men. The national pay gap is around seventeen cents. The national figure applies to all jobs, from unskilled labor to executive leadership. The church can do better. In fact, we should lead the culture in solving the pay gap with women.

10 Clichés Pastors Should KeepTodd Gaddis

We mustn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, however. At the end of the day, some clichés still communicate well and serve a useful purpose. Here are ten that work well for me.

4 Possible Reasons Some Pastors Struggle FinanciallyEric Geiger

While there are likely many reasons, I want to offer four possibilities—three of which place responsibility on the church for not providing enough support and one that places responsibility on the pastor for not being a wise steward. In my more than twenty years of serving in local church ministry and working alongside pastors and churches, I have seen all four reasons at play.

Methodist Church set to ordain first transgender minister

Joy Everingham, 46, who serves at St Peter’s in Canterbury, spent decades secretly wearing women’s clothes before telling her wife what she had been doing.

Everingham told Kent Online: “We were sitting in bed and I said ‘I’ve got something to tell you’.

“I started crying and couldn’t breathe. It was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

“I thought she was going to leave me, or kick me out, but she said ‘I’ve got to think about this’.”

The minister said while her wife was prepared to help her explore her identity, she was “adamant that if I transitioned to a woman she wouldn’t stick around’.”

The couple donated all of Everingham’s female clothes to charity in 2002 after the birth of their second son but not being able to live as a women sent her into a spiral of depression.

After being diagnosed with gender dysphoria, she explained: “Sometimes I felt like God had cursed me, but I had to trust in a god that loves me, whatever I am.”

While training to become a minister, the couple decided to tell their sons and church that Everingham planned to transition, before becoming ordained last summer.

It is the first time a transgender person has been appointed as a minister in the church with the church’s knowledge.

The mother-of-two from Canterbury, Kent, says she first knew she was different aged just five, and ‘didn’t fit in with everyone else’.

She told the Times: “I wasn’t like the boys, I was always more like the girls.

She began living as a woman full-time…

A Plea for Church Leaders to Say and Do Intentional EvangelismSam Rainer

The vast majority of churches are not effective evangelistically. This truth is hard because of what God desires of His church. The church is not a destination for crowds but rather a vehicle to take gospel-sharing people to the ends of the earth. Evangelism is falling off the radar for many churches. The solution is simple: Church leaders must show the way by being more intentional about evangelism and talking about these efforts. We need to say and do intentional evangelism.

Facing Three Common Ministry FearsCody Deevers

Why are we afraid to ask others for help? We are fallen. We are not 100% totally secure in who we are or who He is. Therefore, we give others more say than God would have us to give. It is called fear of man. While fear of man can take on many forms, here are three specific areas of ministry where it rears its ugly head nearly every time and how I am learning to deal with it.

6 Mistakes Leaders Make in Their First 90 DaysEric Geiger

While there is nothing magical about the number, many have used the “first 90 days” to describe the important first days in a leader’s new role. In his helpful book The First 90 Days, Michael Watkins encourages leaders to adjust their leadership to the context and life cycle of the organization: start-up, realignment, sustaining success, or turnaround. As an example, leading in a start-up or turnaround…

Man accidentally shoots himself and wife during church gun safety talk

Members of the First United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains, were talking about recent shootings at places of worship when the 81-year-old pulled out a .380-calibre ruger handgun to show another parishioner.

Police said he removed the magazine, cleared the chamber, and showed the gun, before putting the magazine back in and returning the gun to its holster.

However, he forgot the gun was loaded and when someone from the Thursday afternoon Bible-study group asked if they could see it, he brought it out saying it was not loaded and pulled the trigger.

The bullet sliced the man’s palm before it entered the left side of his 80-year-old wife’s abdomen and exited the right side, as she was sitting in her wheelchair.

The couple were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A parishioner who only wished to give her first name, Mistin, told the BBC the injured man is a lifelong gun-owner who practises every week.

But she claimed he’s been so traumatised by the incident that he plans to get rid of his weapons.

Speaking about the couple, Mistin said: “They’re just true servants of the Lord, they’re such a delight.

“We thank God. I don’t know how God’s using this but we put it in His hands.”

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 18 November 2017 Devotional: You Can Win the Battle Today

Joyce Meyer's Daily 18 November 2017 Devotional: You Can Win the Battle Today

Topic: You Can Win the Battle Today [Saturday November 18, 2017]

Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. — Romans 8:6

Right now, you and I are in the middle of a war. It’s a spiritual warfare, and we wrestle against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV). We need to have the mind of the Holy Spirit to win the battle.

Sadly, there are many believers who operate with the mind of the flesh. But if we want to live in a way that can change our world, then we have to stop living in the flesh and start living in the Spirit.

Every one of us needs to continually make adjustments to put our fleshly desires under the Holy Spirit’s control and not let our emotions or mind rule us. Scripture explains that the spirit wages war against the flesh and the flesh wages war against the spirit, so they are continually antagonistic toward each other.

It’s a war! The devil hates us, and he is constantly working overtime, trying to make sure that we give in to the flesh.

Ultimately, you decide who wins in your life. The good news is, you don’t have to be subject to your flesh. You can live in the Spirit, bringing your flesh in line with His Will. You can win the battle today!

Prayer Starter: God, I want to win battle today. I want to have the mind of the Holy Spirit, which is life and peace. I choose Your Spirit today. Help me bring my flesh in line with Your will.

Our Daily Manna November 18, 2017: ODM devotional – Sacrifice Your Water Pot

Our Daily Manna November 18, 2017: ODM devotional – Sacrifice Your Water Pot

Topic: Sacrifice Your Water Pot [Saturday, November 18, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: John 4:21-30

It was Dave Harvey who quipped: “Everything in scripture is either preparation for the Gospel, presentation of the Gospel, or participation in the Gospel.” Then I remember David McGee: “We should be more concerned with reaching the lost than pampering the saved.” Again he is on point; so true! No wonder years ago, a stranger asked a Christian painter: “What is your business?” His reply? “My business is to preach the gospel, but I paint houses to pay my expenses.”

Now I will ask you, what is your business? Is it driving, buying and selling, teaching, plumbing, cooking, Pharmacy, Photography, Medicine, Engineering, Accounting, Administration, Preaching as a profession, or preaching the gospel as a calling etc? Any other job you are doing today, will end someday. Only what is done for Christ will last! Let your evangelism altar receive fresh fire again as 2017 ends and 2018 begins. Imagine the fire and zeal the woman in today’s Basic Scripture used in drawing her people ( the Samaritans) to Christ. The human body contains about 70% water! You know how important water is to anybody, yet she left her water pot (Vs 28).

When did you do that last? When did you leave your “water pot” ( job, husband, children, business, your sleep, money, your car, TV, your prestige and reputation etc), and told men, “come see the Man who delivered me from hell.” Tell God to destroy shame, greed for money, laziness and take back by force, the original evangelism fire of old. Oh! Hear the great Charles Haddon Spurgeon: “Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you ‘re not saved yourself, be sure of that!” Wow! Very harsh but correct! Please preach in the bus, market places, schools, t-junctions, street corners, and do early morning cries.

Pay for a radio/TV slot for your local ministry or this ODM vision if you can! At every available opportunity, open your mouth: Sacrifice your water pot ( your physical or financial comfort)! 2 Tim. 4:2 says: “Preach the Word ( Gospel) in season( when convenient) and out of season (when not convenient). To obtain God’s best we must give our best. To win we must surrender! To live we must die! To receive, we must give! Give your time to preaching the gospel DAILY ON THIS PLANET.

MY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY THANKSGIVING SERVICE IS ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 26TH. TIME: 12PM. COME AND CELEBRATE WITH ME HIS AMAZING GRACE AT OGUDU!

Prayer Points: Take your best worship song to God.

1. Ask for fresh fire for souls (Pray this for one week).

2. Pray for sinners today. Ask God to lead you across someone as you go out today.

3. Holy Ghost, set everything cold in me on fire again!

4. Pray about today generally as led now. Cancel SHAME!

Action Point: Talk to someone about Christ today, tomorrow and every day you live!

Sanhedrin Prepares Oil for Third Temple—Is Amos’ Prophecy About to Be Fulfilled? .

(Pixabay/kevindvt)

In preparation for the third temple, the nascent Sanhedrin and the United Temple Movement (UTM) annually prepares olive oil that is ritually pure and ready for use in the temple; but this year, the olives were harvested from a special orchard, intended to send a special light into the world that adheres to a prophecy with current-day political ramifications.

The oil-making is part of an ongoing effort to recreate temple rituals and become familiar with them in every detail, so…
