Justin Welby ‘stands in solidarity’ with Christians in Zimbabwe

The 93-year-old president made his first public appearance on Friday since the military put him under house arrest this week, attending a graduation ceremony on the outskirts of Harare.

The appearance came even as the military announced “significant progress” on talks for his departure and arrested some of his allies.

In a Facebook status posted on Thursday, Archbishop Justin said he had been following the events closely and is praying intensely for a peaceful solution.

He said: “I am praying for the whole nation of Zimbabwe – its people, its military, its political leaders – that they may find a path forward that leads to the flourishing of this nation and all its people.”

Archbishop Justin added that he “stands in solidarity” with the Church in Zimbabwe.

He said: “To the Church in Zimbabwe: your brothers and sisters around the Anglican Communion stand with you in prayer, solidarity and hope.

“Your faith, courage and persistence in the face of difficult times has long been an example to the world.

“May God strengthen, protect and guide you as you seek to bear witness to the love of Christ at this deeply challenging time.”

Kickstarter Launches Patreon-Like Subscription Service Called Drip

Little Orbit/Descendent StudiosOn April 11, 2015, Descendent Studios successfully raised 1,000 on Kickstarter to develop “Descent: Underground.”

Kickstarter has launched a new Patreon-like service called Drip allowing fans to subscribe to their favorite creators. The move comes as the crowdfunding platform is experiencing stagnant growth and senior leadership taking flight.

The announcement was made via a blog post where the company provided details on what to expect from the new service. Drip is meant to complement the platform’s current business model by creating a community around ongoing projects.

Participating creators will have their own pages showcasing the content they create along with subscriptions that will be divided into different tiers. Similar to Patreon, each tier will feature different rewards such as such as early access to content, bonus content, or personal interaction with artists. This gives the company a whole new revenue stream while at the same time, allow fans to support their favorite artists.

Every Drip account begins with a founding membership period, during which subscribers can get additional bonuses. At the moment, the service is invite-only for content creators, but Kickstarter has confirmed the service will be available for all at a later date.

This move can’t come any sooner as the proliferation of new platforms over the years has made the crowdfunding space very, very competitive. While Kickstarter is still the top dog in the industry, it has recently been through some trying times.

Recent studies revealed that the amount of money pledged to the…

Five Problems Caused by Short Pastoral Tenure – Rainer on Leadership #381

Podcast Episode #381

SUBSCRIBE: iTunesRSSStitcherTuneIn RadioGoogle Play • iHeart Radio

While some circumstances do call for quick pastoral turnover, it’s hard not to wonder if some churches fire their pastor (or the pastor bails) too quickly. Today, we cover the problems that result from this.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Churches tend to hire the opposite of what they previously had. They swing the pendulum the other way.
  • When a pastor bails on a church or is fired, the staff is often left to pick up the pieces.
  • You cannot execute a vision at once. It takes time.
  • For pastors, far too often “God told me” becomes a convenient cover for “this is hard, and I want out.”
  • For churches, far too often “God told us” becomes a convenient cover for “we don’t want to change.”

The five problems we discuss are:

  1. Members lose trust in the pastors, and pastors lose trust in churches.
  2. Your current church will wonder if it will happen to them.
  3. The staff is demoralized.
  4. The vision of the church is clouded.
  5. Financial waste.
