Memorise: Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? – 2 Chronicles 20:7

Read: Genesis 18:17-22 (KJV)

17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 1-8, Amos 7, Hymn: Sing Hymn 14 – Take My Life

MESSAGE:

When you read through 2 Kings 2:1-7, you will notice that Elijah, Elisha and the sons of the prophets in Bethel, Jericho and Jordan were all very much aware of Elijah’s transition to glory and the day it was scheduled to take place. In fact, they even treated the knowledge of this event like an open secret. One lesson from this is that if you walk in the Spirit, significant events will be common knowledge to you. God has secrets (Proverb 25:2). There are certain things known only to Him, which He may want to share with men once in a while. Daniel 2:22 says,

“He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”

Coming up next: Open Heavens 18 November 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Only An Honour

In as much as God wants to share His secrets with men, if He looks around and finds no one qualified by His grace for such secrets, He will simply keep it to Himself.

“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”Amos 3:7

When you have a closely guarded secret, do you tell everyone on the street about it? I very much doubt you would do that. Rather, you will want to keep it to yourself, and even if you would tell anyone at all, it will be someone who is not only close to you but who is also trustworthy enough in keeping secrets. Who are those God will share His secrets with? It is His servants! If you are not getting divine information regarding crucial future events, it is most likely that you need to correct certain aspects of your service. When you serve the Lord, He will share some of His secrets with you. The more you serve Him, the more you have future information ahead of time. Also, you must be his friend. Abraham was God’s friend, and so, when God was about to destroy Sodom and He realised that Abraham’s nephew, Lot, and his family were there, the Lord told Abraham about it. This gave Abraham the privilege and opportunity to intercede for them. Are you a friend of Jesus Christ? What is the level of closeness you share with Him? Friends communicate a lot. Do you often hear God’s voice? How often does He speak to you using various means of communication? You become His closest friend by serving Him like never before, and He will not leave you in the dark concerning your tomorrow and that of your family.

Key Point: When your relationship with God moves up to the friendship level, access to divine secrets will become a regular benefit to you.

Hymn 14: Take My Life

1. Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Megachurch Founder Bob Coy Accused of Molesting 4-Y-O, Sexually Abusing Her Into Her Teens

(Screenshot: YouTube/Liberty University)Bob Coy, at Liberty University’s convocation in 2013.

Bob Coy, founder of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in Florida who resigned as senior pastor over moral failings in 2014, has been accused of molesting a girl when she was 4 years old and into her teens.

According to an August 2015 report provided to The Christian Post by the Coral Springs Police Department, a mother living in Southern California reported that her then 17-year-old daughter came forward, saying she had been sexually abused by Coy for years.

The accusations reveal in graphic detail that Coy forced the girl to perform oral sex on him, and that he “digitally penetrated her.”

Police later spoke with the victim in September 2015, but she said she was not sure whether she wanted to go through with a criminal investigation or testify.

She also said that while she had not confronted Coy yet, Coy had been “confronted by pastoral staff in Tennessee and is likely aware of the allegations at this point.”

The following day, the victim told the police that she was not ready to proceed with a criminal investigation unless a second person came forward.

The case was assigned to a detective and although police advised the victim that there does not seem to be a statute of limitations…

Government minister begins tour of 42 places of worship

The tour, which is expected to last through 2018, follows a similar feat last year which saw him visit all 42 Anglican cathedrals in England.

This time round he will visit churches of different denominations and places of worship of different faiths.

Many of the buildings he will visit have been suggested by members of the community.

“England is a country with a rich heritage of religious diversity and our modern society thrives on the range of its faith communities,” he said.

“Having already visited the 42 Anglican Cathedrals in England, I am looking forward to visiting 42 places of worship that serve Britain’s other faith communities. It is important that we recognise the important part these places of worship and religious groups play in our communities.”

Lord Bourne started the tour off in Leicester where he visited St Mary’s, the church where he was christened.

The start of the tour also marked Inter Faith week where people of faith are encouraged to engage with those of differing beliefs.

Why (Mostly) Healthy Churches Should Consider Acquiring a Dying Church – Revitalize & Replant #014

SUBSCRIBE TODAY: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

Dying churches often need help from healthier churches so that their resources may continue to be used for Kingdom work. Today, Mark Clifton joins us to discuss how this strategy can revive neighborhood churches as we know them.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM THOMAS

Our church is considering going multisite by acquiring a dying church. I’ve had several conversations with our deacon leadership. They seem on board, but don’t seem to fully understand the concept. Can you give me some concrete examples or reasons we should do this other than “Because God is leading us to…”? That’s a good one, and probably the best reason, but some of my deacons want more.

Episode Highlights:

  • In many churches, multisite is still a foreign concept.
  • There are so many ways you can use your church building for God’s glory.
  • It’s important to remember what God has done in your church’s history.
  • In a world that is always changing, our God is never changing.
  • Successful small changes often energize people toward more change.
  • “Unless it’s really necessary, don’t change your church’s name—reclaim the name.”

The seven reasons to consider acquiring a dying church are:

  1. It keeps a presence in the community
  2. It keeps physical resources used for Kingdom use
  3. It continues the good part of the legacy of the dying church
  4. It moves the acquiring church to a greater outward focus
  5. It makes a powerful statement to the…

House Set to Vote on Tax Reform Bill, Which Includes Provision for Unborn

House Set to Vote on Tax Reform Bill, Which Includes Provision for Unborn

The GOP is hoping to successfully pass a tax reform bill very soon. The House will vote on the bill, HR 1, on Thursday, November 16.

According to LifeNews.com, the bill contains an important provision for unborn babies. The bill would allow parents to name unborn children as beneficiaries of the 529 College Savings Plan.

The provision has garnered the praise of pro-life advocates who see it as an acknowledgement that babies inside the womb have full status as human beings.

The provision has also garnered criticism from abortion supporters, including the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (NARAL) and Planned Parenthood.

The National Right to Life, however, is in full support of the provision. They have also worked to make sure the tax credit for adoption remains a part of the tax reform bill.

According to CBS News, the tax reform bill would also cut the corporate tax rate, reduce the number of tax brackets, and cut taxes for individuals overall.

President Trump and the GOP are hoping that they can have some success with tax reform, unlike the roadblocks they faced with healthcare. “[T]ax cuts are getting close!” the President tweeted ahead of Thursday’s vote.

Church leader questions Grenfell death toll

Metropolitan Police confirmed on Thursday that 71 people, including a stillborn baby, make up the final death toll in the Grenfell Tower fire.

Police said all those who died in the blaze in west London five months ago have been recovered and identified.

However, Pastor Derek Wilson from Tabernacle Christian Centre told Premier’s News Hour he thinks the actual figure is higher.

He said: “To say there are only 71, I can agree that is what they have identified but what about those that are still unidentified, where there are no DNA records and dental records?

“That it is the question that must be asked.”

Wilson added that a lot of survivors were upset when they heard the final death toll.

In June, police indicated the figure would be at least 80, a number disputed as too low by some people, who claimed a cover-up by authorities and the media.

Campaign group Justice4Grenfell even set up its own unofficial database cataloguing the victims of the fire.

In disclosing the final death toll on Thursday, Scotland Yard explained that a number of factors contributed to the figure being less than 80.

Police received multiple missing persons reports, some under different names, and undertook the enormous task of locating some people thought to have been in the building who were actually elsewhere at the time.

Footage examined by police showed that 223 people escaped the blaze.

Officers are also dealing with eight cases of fraud…

Russell Moore Calls Christians to Stand against Roy Moore

Russell Moore Calls Christians to Stand against Roy Moore

The allegations against Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore are increasing with every passing day. Although some conservatives and Christians continue to back Moore, others are speaking out and condemning his behavior.

Recently, Russell Moore, the leader of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, commented on the controversial situation.

Moore tweeted:

According to TheHill.com, five women have now accused Moore of sexual assault.

Although Roy Moore calls himself a Christian, Russell Moore has called on the Christian community to be a place that protects “vulnerable women and girls.”

He further tweeted:

Roy Moore has denied all of the allegations, and some Republicans and Christians continue to support him, if only to prevent his Democrat opponent Doug Jones from winning the open Senate seat.

Although Alabama is historically a Republican-friendly state, due to the…

Operation Christmas Child Delivers Early to Barbudan Children Displaced by Hurricane Irma

(Photo: Samaritan’s Purse / Operation Christmas Child)Children displaced from their homes in Barbuda receive Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes during an early distribution on the island of Antigua on Nov. 7, 2017.

About 250 children from the Caribbean island of Barbuda, whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Irma in September, have received early Christmas presents, delivered to them by a Texas pastor and his wife whose own home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey in August.

Pastor Mark and Cherry Brumbelow of Wild Peach, Texas, traveled with representatives of the evangelical humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse to the island of Antigua last week, where they had the privilege of handing out Operation Christmas Child gift-filled shoeboxes to hundreds of Barbudan refugee children evacuated from the island after the category five storm made the island uninhabitable for the first time in 300 years.

Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan’s Purse-operated annual gift drive fueled by churches and volunteers across the United States who pack shoeboxes full of toys, school supplies and hygiene items that are delivered to kids in impoverished nations, decided to give Barbudan children an early Christmas present.

Although Operation Christmas Child’s annual collection week…
