Council social services bosses hit out at criticism over Christian girl’s foster placement

The girl’s mother had said her family had a Christian heritage but foster carers were Muslim.

Bosses at Tower Hamlets Council say an investigation by one of their senior social workers shows that a number of complaints were unfair.

They say the investigation shows that foster carers provided “warm and appropriate” care to the little girl – although they said findings were disputed by the youngster’s mother.

The case, which is being overseen by a judge at the East London Family Court, hit the headlines more than two months ago.

Judge Khatun Sapnara decided in late August the little girl should move from a foster placement to her grandmother’s home temporarily, pending further analysis of evidence.

She has said the little girl cannot be identified.

Social services staff had assessed the grandmother as a suitable long-term carer, said the judge.

The girl’s mother wanted to ”resume the care of her daughter” as soon as possible, she added.

On Wednesday a Tower Hamlets Council spokesman said in a statement: “Although the mother disputes the findings, the local authority is satisfied that at all times the foster carers provided warm and appropriate care to the child.

“The local authority has been impressed with the care and commitment shown by the carers to the child.”

He added: “The local authority does not accept the allegations as made in the national press.”

Christian campaign to turn The Beatles’ Strawberry Fields into hub for young people

The Strawberry Field home in Woolton, Liverpool, was made famous by John Lennon’s song, released 50 years ago.

Christian charity The Salvation Army now hopes to turn the site, where Lennon used to play as a child, into a training and work placement hub for young people with learning disabilities.

To mark the launch of the fundraising campaign, a choir, formed of people who could benefit from the plans, recorded a special version of the song at Abbey Road studios.

Major Drew McCombe, divisional leader for The Salvation Army, North West, said: “Lennon grew up close to Strawberry Field, and gave generously to the home as soon as he got his first pay cheque.

“He also had a vision for it, expressed in the song, as a place where anybody, whatever their personal background and difficulties, could realise their dreams.

“Strawberry Field has the potential to bring that vision to life; changing the lives of young people with learning disabilities, who find it difficult to find gainful employment, as well as encourage more projects similar across the UK.”

TV presenter Paul O’Grady has given his support to the project.

He said: “I’m sure John Lennon would be smiling down on this project.

“As the song lyrics say, ‘Living is easy with eyes closed’ – hopefully this campaign will open people’s eyes so they see the many individuals living alongside us that aren’t being given the support they need to thrive and flourish.”

Funds raised by the campaign will go towards creating the…

Open Heavens 3 November 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Upturning Blessings

Open Heavens 3 November 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Upturning Blessings

Topic: Upturning Blessings — Friday 3, November 2017.

Memorise: And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.Joshua 6:18

Read: Malachi 2:1-6 (KJV)

1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.

2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.

4 And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

5 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.

6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.

Bible in One Year: 2 Peter 1-3, 1 John 1, Hosea 11, Hymn: Sing Hymn 10 – I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

MESSAGE:

God can bless you by pronouncing a blessing on you, cancelling a curse or even turning a curse into a blessing. It is important to establish at this point that no man can change your blessing into a curse – not even the one through whom the blessing was pronounced. Once the blessing is pronounced, it cannot be taken back. We see a manifestation of this truth in Genesis 27:30-37. After Esau returned from his father’s errand and realised his younger brother had stolen his blessing by impersonating him, he went to his father and said, “Daddy, what have you done?” Isaac his father replied, “I am sorry son, I have already blessed him and he remains blessed. I didn’t know I was blessing the wrong fellow, but I can’t change the blessing now. He is already blessed!” In the Name that is above all names, every blessing that has been pronounced on you and your family shall come to pass! Your blessing shall never be reversed in Jesus’ Name! Every plan of the wicked to upturn your blessings shall fail and meet with disappointment!

Coming up next: Open Heavens 4 November 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Don’t Faint!

However, God can change a blessing into a curse. In 1 Samuel 2:30, God told Eli, “With My mouth, I said that you and your father’s house would stand before Me forever, but now, because of what you have done, I have changed My mind”, and with the same mouth, God cursed Eli and his descendants forever. In that scripture, the Lord revealed that honouring Him is very crucial. If you want Him to fulfil His promises and beautiful prophecies to you and your family, you must be prepared to honour Him. God will only honour those who honour him. I have often told those brethren who attend our monthly Divine Encounter programme that when God asks you to give Him your first fruits, it is not because He is in need. It is simply a way of you honouring him. Proverbs 3:9-10 says,

9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”

Have you been faithful in paying your first fruits? If you pay it faithfully, He will definitely keep His word by bringing His promises to fulfilment in your life. If however you cannot meet His conditions, do not waste your time claiming the promises. God is a responsible God and He is the Father of responsible children. If you ignore the commands of your earthly father, it doesn’t show you are responsible. It works the same way with God.

Action Point: Pray that your blessing will never become a curse.

Sing Hymn 10: I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

1. There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

[Chorus]
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2. There shall be showers of blessing:
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.
[Chorus]

3. There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing;
Come, and now honor Thy Word.
[Chorus]

4. There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!
[Chorus]

External factors play a major role in replanting and revitalizing. But so do internal factors. Today, Mark Clifton joins us to talk about EQ and its importance in effective leadership.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM STEVE

In episode 3, you mentioned a replanter needs high emotional intelligence. What does that look like on a practical level and how can I improve personally?

Episode Highlights:

  • Self awareness is critical for a pastor.
  • Pastors need to be good listeners.
  • The more you love Jesus, the more you’re going to love people.
  • The more you love people, the more you’re going to want to spend time with them.

The four characteristics of emotional intelligence that we cover in this episode are:

  1. Self-awareness: The ability to know yourself and your emotions, not as you wish they were, but as they really are.
  2. Self-regulation: The wisdom and ability to understand the impact you have when you take action or refrain from action.
  3. Social awareness: The ability to read other people and understand their emotions.
  4. Relationship management: The ability to incorporate the other 3 skills to navigate and build positive relationships with all types of people.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 2 November 2017 Devotional: God Is Able and Stable

Joyce Meyer's Daily 2 November 2017 Devotional: God Is Able and Stable

Topic: God Is Able and Stable [Thursday November 2, 2017]

For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.Proverbs 2:6

My husband, Dave, is a great example of someone who consistently lives with peace and stability. He often reminds me of a rock, which is one of the names of Jesus.

You see, like a steady rock, Jesus remains unchanging. The writer of Hebrews says that He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.

I used to struggle to live with the same peace and stability that Dave has. I would be happy one day and depressed the next. Finally, I realized what makes Dave so peaceful: He trusts in the unchanging God. He knows that no matter what happens, God will stay the same.

The Bible tells us that the Lord our God, who is with us at all times, is the Mighty One (see Zephaniah 3:17)—mighty to help us overcome and live by His unchangeable Word and Spirit.

Our God is able…and stable. Why not trust Him today? When you realize that no matter what, God stays the same, and you base your life on His unchanging nature, you can enjoy the continual, calm delight that He longs to give you. Why not start today?

Prayer Starter: God, You are able and stable! You’re the only constant in this life. I know that no matter what happens, I can rely on You and Your unchanging nature.

Our Daily Manna November 2, 2017: ODM devotional – Managing Success -2

Our Daily Manna November 2, 2017: ODM devotional – Managing Success -2

Beware of the company you keep!

Topic: Managing Success -2 [Thursday, November 2, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Daniel 4:27-37

Heaven began dealing with us yesterday concerning the many poisons attached to success. However, for you to manage success, you must note the points below and answer the following questions honestly:

1. Do you know yourself? What are the secrets of your success? Can you reveal the secrets? Can you honestly identify the factors which could hinder your ability to manage success? Can you deal with the factors effectively? Take time to answer the above questions if you are serious about managing success.

2. Continue working as if you have never succeeded.

3. Beware of the company you keep!

4. Continue to use your brain all the time even as you walk by faith. Be balanced! Prayer is great but you must think! The brain has been described as the “Master plan” of the human body. So, use your brain creatively to enable you to use your hands effectively. Think now or stink later!

5. Never allow sentiments to replace valued judgements. Listen to the Holy Spirit! Remember what happened in Joshua 9 and how Joshua /Israel was deceived (See it later)!

6. Believe the best in others! Your ability to manage success can be increased by the role of other good people. Love your family, but weed out unfriendly friends or negative staff in your life or ministry. Good and sincere people are available but in short supply! Go all out and look for them and use them wisely.

7. Stay relevant. Continue yourself and corporate development. Remember that if you don’t get updated, you become outdated. If need be, change your church programmers/services or company products. Make your job/business premises a delight. Add value!

8. Have the fear of God and live a clean, private life. Your private life is more important than your public life. Watch and avoid bad habits. Trust in God in problems! Avoid drugs or alcohol in handling stress. Read your Bible daily! Pray often! Avoid Nebuchadnezzar’s mistake. I pray: Breakthrough will break you! Amen! Pray now!

Still give out this 4th quarter ODM copy to souls! Remember, EVANGELISM is God’s heartbeat! I see NEW Grace on you for every copy given out! Start today!

Prayer Points: Take Song 1: The rugged cross……….

1. Pray yesterday’s points with zeal.

Samsung Begins Rollout Among Limited US Users

Android 8.0 Oreo has been active among Google Pixel and Nexus smartphone owners for a while now but Samsung users have yet to get the official update. The company, however, recently launched its beta program for the latest operating system (OS). The rollout is slowly happening for U.S. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphone owners.

YouTube/Android

Android Oreo is already available for Pixel and Nexus smartphones owners but Samsung users have to wait a bit more.

Evidence that Samsung’s Oreo beta program began going live came from a Reddit user who shared the screenshots. Allegedly, the Android 8.0 beta for S8 and S8 Plus runs as the “Samsung Experience 9.0.” Among the features included in the new OS are colored notifications, a better launcher shortcuts and a smoother performance overall.

Samsung quietly opened its Oreo beta program a few weeks ago. Interested users can sign up via the Samsung Plus app and locate the option for the beta registration. Over 7,500 U.S. users can experience Oreo’s performance in beta but the program is only limited to T-Mobile and Sprint subscriber, as well as owners of unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

The Reddit user also revealed that the beta program will officially launch Thursday, Nov. 2, at 11:00 a.m. with no confirmed time zone. Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus users can begin checking their Samsung Plus App by then to see if they got into the program, provided they have registered early on.

Currently, Samsung ships out new Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus units with the Android Nougat operating system. Google announced in August that latest Samsung units should have the…
