Our Daily Bread 31 October 2017 Devotional – Ruth’s Story

Topic: Ruth’s Story — Tuesday October 31, 2017.

Read: Romans 10:1–13, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 22–23; Titus 1

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13

Ruth cannot tell her story without tears. In her mid-eighties and unable to get around much anymore, Ruth may not appear to be a central figure in our church’s life. She depends on others for rides, and because she lives alone she doesn’t have a huge circle of influence.

But when she tells us her story of salvation—as she does often—Ruth stands out as a remarkable example of God’s grace. Back when she was in her thirties, a friend invited her to go to a meeting one night. Ruth didn’t know she was going to hear a preacher. “I wouldn’t have gone if I knew,” she says. She already had “religion,” and it wasn’t doing her any good. But go she did. And she heard the good news about Jesus that night.

Now, more than fifty years later, she cries tears of joy when she talks of how Jesus transformed her life. That evening, she became a child of God. Her story never grows old.

It doesn’t matter if our story is similar to Ruth’s or not. What does matter is that we take the simple step of putting our faith in Jesus and His death and resurrection. The apostle Paul said, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9).

That’s what Ruth did. You can do that too. Jesus redeems, transforms, and gives us new life.

Belonging to Christ is not rehabilitation; it’s re-creation.

Insight:

The redemption provided by Christ is the only basis for receiving eternal life. Why is it impossible to be saved through our own good works?

DCLM Daily Manna 31 October, 2017 by Pastor Kumuyi – Total Purging Required

Topic: Total Purging Required — Tuesday October 31, 2017.

Text: 2 Kings 18:1-12

Key Verse: “He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan” (2 Kings 18:4)

When Dan Edwards was ordained as a missionary, Robert Murray McCheyne, in a letter, advised him, “In great measure, according to the purity and perfections of the instrument, will be the success. It is not great talents, but God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God.”

From the text, Hezekiah did not take a cue from his father, Ahaz, having known that he did not live up to God’s expectation. Rather, he took after David, his ancestor, who was a man after God’s heart, and purged the land of Judah of all filthiness. The people had been enmeshed in sins and Hezekiah embarked on total reformation of Judah to enthrone the true worship of God.

To be able to accomplish this mission, he removed all the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snakes, which Moses erected, under the instruction of God, to heal those bitten by snakes. But the bronze snake later became idol in the hearts of the people. So, Hezekiah destroyed and cleaned up everywhere, announcing a new dawn for the worship of true God. His trust in the Lord attracted divine favour in whatever he undertook. Hezekiah successfully rebelled against the king of Assyria. He defeated the Philistines, as far as Gaza, though he witnessed Israel’s journey to the Assyrian captivity.

What is your priority in life? To serve God or Satan? Enoch and Noah never allowed the lifestyle and the mockeries of people to deter them from following after righteousness. Moses did not let the affluence of Pharaoh’s palace affect his resolve to serve God. Samuel never permitted the evil influences of Eli’s children to soil his relationship with God. What is your take on this call to be single-minded in serving God? He is watching and waiting for your response.

Thought for the day: Absolute obedience to God attracts His full blessings.

Our Daily Manna October 31, 2017: ODM devotional – Teach Thyself! Judge Thyself!

Topic: Teach Thyself! Judge Thyself! [Tuesday, October 31, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Romans 2: 16-24

Hypocrisy is “claiming to have moral standards or believes to which one’s behavior does not conform.” It is pretense! In fact, the ancient Greek word for HYPOCRISY comes from the word for a stage actor or one who wears a mask.

It is not necessarily the fact that they sin that makes men/ women hypocrites, it’s the fact that they don’t acknowledge it. They don’t admit that their lives contradict what they say. They are not authentic but impostors!  Consider this:

A dentist may tell his patients not to eat candy (sweet), but he/she goes home and enjoys sweets. A pastor can declare fasting, but he /she eats and eats and eats! A policeman/woman can warn a crime, but secretly commits or sponsors crimes! When you call yourself a vegetarian but secretly eats meats above all else, you are a hypocrite! Hypocrisy is when you forgive in the daylight but remain bitter at night! Hypocrites teach one thing and live the opposite.

In a sense, we are all hypocrites because nobody is perfect, but deliberate hypocrisy is poison! Our emphasis today is that you must be an example in whatever you do and wherever you are. Let your light so shine that men will not doubt your God or your faith. Yes, you will be criticized if you are making progress in life and ministry, but never invite undue attacks on your lifestyle. Note Vs. 21-24 or basic scripture. Is there anything you are preaching against that you are practicing secretly?  THIS IS HYPOCRISY and the LORD hates it! Remember also that if you live in a glass house, you don’t throw stones.

Roman 2:21 says: “Thou therefore which teacheth another teach not thou thyself?” As 2017 ends and 2018 begins, teach thyself! Judge thyself! What heaven knows about you is more important than what people think about you! Read the Basic Scripture again and let heaven rejoice that you were born! Amen!

Prayer Points: Take any song of worship as led.

1. Pray about today’s word as it has touched you.

2. Repent from any way in which your life has brought shame to the name of God in the past.

3. O Lord, let my life advertise and declare Your glory.

4. O Lord, hide me inside your power and presence in Jesus name. Pray for leaders in your local church and nation.

5. All agents sent to paralyze my life, dry up today in Jesus name (Pray it very well)

Pray about today generally as led now.

Seeds of Destiny 31 October 2017 by Pastor Paul Enenche — Living In Joy: A Key To Divine Health

Topic — Living In Joy: A Key To Divine Health [Tuesday October 31, 2017]

Scripture: A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. Proverbs 15:13

Thought For The Day: The fullness of joy equals the presence of God.

Jesus Christ is our perfect example in life and ministry. We are created to live like Him in all areas of life.

It has been confirmed that one of the key secrets of our Master Jesus was the continuous merriment and excitement in which He existed and operated. It was such a contagious dimension of joy that He distributed joy everywhere He went. Everywhere He saw someone in tears, the counsel was ‘weep not’ (Luke 7:13). He dissipated pains and sorrows as He wiped away tears from the faces of people.

Joy is therapeutic and merriment is medicinal. Depression is destructive; nothing sustains affliction and oppression like depression.

No wonder, Proverbs 15:15 says, All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. The depressed person is an afflicted person. The absence of merriment is the confirmation of affliction. Depression breaks the spirit and removes the body’s defences or immunities (Proverbs 18:13).

What then are the benefits of a life of Joy?

1. Joy supplies strength, energy and vitality (Nehemiah 8:10b). Medically, joy releases high amount of stress-reducing hormones like endorphins.

2. Joy invites the Presence of God. The fullness of joy equals the presence of God (Psalm 16:11).

My counsel is, make the choice for joy. Joy is not a gift of the spirit; it is a choice.

Remember This: The fullness of joy equals the presence of God.

Assignments:

1. Avoid depressive thoughts, company and activity.

2. Live in the atmosphere of praise.

Prayer: O LORD, I receive the grace to be joyful always.

Pakistani Christian is Attacked for Faith and for Displaying Cross

Pakistani Christian is Attacked for Faith and for Displaying Cross

A Pakistani Christian man who moved to the UK in order to escape persecution in Pakistan was recently attacked for his faith and for displaying a cross.

According to ChristianToday.com, Tajamal Amar, 46, works as a delivery man. He was recently knocked unconscious outside a fast food restaurant. He was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken nose.

Amar claims he was targeted for his Christian faith and because he was displaying a Christian cross as well as Remembrance Day poppies in his delivery vehicle.

The area where Amar works is heavily populated by Pakistanis, most of whom are Muslim. Like in Pakistan, Christians are often on the receiving end of discrimination or violence stemming from religious differences.

“Several times, local Pakistani people in Derby have taken offence from the fact that I am Christian,” Amar testified, according to the Sunday Times.

“Freedom of religion should be the right of any British citizen but today I feel unsafe, even then nothing will stop me going to church,” he continued.

He also added that he had the Remembrance Day poppies on his vehicle to show his support for the British Armed Forces and the work they do.

“These persecutors cannot stop me showing my support, and I want to put more poppies on my car. I am going to put on as many as I can – maybe two more or four more – because I am not…
