The Unique Challenges of Being a Church Planting WifeChristine Hoover

Church planting wife, whatever challenge you face today, let your griefs and your disenchantment with this world turn your face to the One who sees, the One who promises you will reap from what you’ve sown if you don’t give up (Galatians 6:9), the One who is preparing you a true home. Turn your face to the One who is worthy of all your labor costs you. He is pleased by your faith.

8 Reasons Why Your Church Needs to Connect with the Nearest College or UniversityChuck Lawless

I don’t know your church’s location, but I suspect that it may be within driving distance of a college or university campus. If so, your congregation needs to connect with that campus. Here’s why:

3 Lessons Learned Managing Social Media for Tim Tebow’s Baseball Team — Kyle Martin

I just finished my second year working in Minor League Baseball for the Columbia Fireflies. In these first two years, I have already crossed my two main goals off the list: 1) Open a brand-new ballpark (which happened in 2016) and 2) Host the All-Star Game (which happened in 2017). Those two are great, but this year, I was also given an…

Kenyan Church leaders support postponing vote

Fears of further bloodshed has led Kenya’s election commission to postpone the planned voting in some opposition strongholds, with safety concerns for its workers cited as deadly clashes continued between police and protesters.

It was the second voting delay in four out of Kenya’s 47 counties, highlighting the bitter divisions and political uncertainty that have intensified after Thursday’s repeat presidential election, which was boycotted by supporters of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the governor of the East African’s third-largest city also supported postponing the vote for the presidential election re-run and described counter plans as a “joke”.
It remains unclear when the voting will now take place.

Kenyan opposition areas such as the streets of Kisumu, as well as several Nairobi slums are reportedly quiet, though police used tear gas to disperse crowds in the slum of Kawangware.

The election commission had delayed voting in four out of Kenya’s 47 counties until Saturday because of violence. This new postponement is “until further notice” because of concerns for the safety of election workers.

At least six people have died in violence linked to the latest vote, including a man who was shot and killed in the Nairobi slum of Kawangware as security forces moved to quell fighting between gangs from different ethnic groups late on Friday, according to police.

Website ranks churches based on acceptance of LGBT members

Church Clarity, which launched earlier this month, analyses different policies and stated inclusivity of parishes nationwide, based on what’s available on their website as, “ambiguity is harmful and clarity is reasonable”.

Explaining the “problem”to be fixed, the site states: “There are millions of churches around the world. They represent a wide spectrum of beliefs, which are translated into actively enforced policies.

“At the level of the local church, policies are often communicated unclearly, if they are disclosed at all. In many churches, especially evangelical ones, clarity is elusive.”

The leadership team, which is made up of a former executive pastor of an evangelical mega church, a deacon and marketing and communications consultant, also call on people to submit churches to be considered.

However, Church Clarity’s website states it is not calling on these churches to change their policies.

In an interview with Vice, Tim Schraeder who spent more than 15 years working in marketing and communications for churches before leading the company explained how they score churches.

He said: “We curated the first batch of churches, but we’ve had almost 700 scored since we launched last week. All our scores are based on what’s easily and publicly accessible on a church’s website.

“Most parishes recognize that people looking for a faith community will go to their website, so they’ll usually lay out nicely what can be…

Vicar expelled from church for affair with parishioner

Rev Dr Chris Stuart, nicknamed the ‘Rambling Reverend’ because of the title of his blog, previously claimed in a post that a walking holiday made him “realise the things that were important in my life and crystallised the decision to resign in my mind”.

He also said he wanted to be able to spend more time caring for his wife who was suffering from anorexia.

However, a member of the church who wished to remain anonymous told The Daily Telegraph that Rev Stuart began an affair with a member of the congregation, in 2016, which he later fathered a child with.

The Diocese of Worcester has confirmed that the 43-year-old has been suspended from ministerial duties.

A spokesman said: “The Rev Dr Chris Stuart, Vicar of St John in Bedwardine and St Clement and Lower Broadheath was recently subject to a complaint under the Clergy Discipline Measure, of conduct unbecoming of a priest, having admitted adultery.

“As a result, Chris resigned his post and accepted a penalty of two years prohibition from ministry as a priest.”

Rev Stuart was curate at Pershore Abbey before taking the position at St John-in-Bedwardine Church, in Worcester, in October 2009.

The Diocese of Worcester started an investigation under the Clergy Discipline Measure when the alleged affair came to light.

It found him guilty of conduct ‘unbecoming of a priest’.

Lord Alton says lives lost since abortion act is ‘a monstrous figure’

Hundreds of pro-life protesters listened to the leading Catholic and pro-life peer who condemned the “willful killing of the smallest and most helpless member of the human family in the very place she should be safest – her mother’s womb”.

He said: “What we mark today, is nothing less than the greatest shame of our nation. The fact that we neuter the protections in our laws for our tiniest countrymen and countrywomen is a horror and disgrace on a massive scale.

“We are here to signify that we are not going away, that we are not going to remain quiet while injustice occurs and we are not going to stop working and educating and championing and fighting until we live in a society where the humanity, dignity and the rights of every member of our nation are together recognised.”

On 27th October 1967, the Speaker of the House of Commons declared that Royal Assent from Her Majesty the Queen had been given to David Steel’s abortion Bill. The Abortion Act 1967 came into effect six months later on 27th April 1968.

Lord Alton detailed the effect of the Act.

He explained: “Since then, 8,894,355 abortions have been carried out, and at least that number of unborn children have lost their lives. I say ‘at least’, because of course some single abortions will have been carried out on twins, or triplets, or other multiple pregnancies.

“That is a monstrous figure.”

On Friday, public education project, Abort67, unveiled a…

Vicar bans ‘Onward, Christian Soldiers’ hymn from remembrance service

Rev Steve Bailey met with the local branch committee of the Royal British Legion, which organises the parade, to discuss the issue and both agreed to scrap the usual song choice at the service to mark the war dead in St Peter’s Church in Oadby, Leicester.

Their decision however was met with outrage from another branch of the Royal British Legion club in Oadby, which is just across the street from the church.

Ian Thorpe, vice-chairman of the Oadby legion club told Leicester Mercury: “The new vicar is not happy with Onward Christian Soldiers being sung.

“It’s been done nearly every year in recent memory but he said they’re not doing it because not everyone at the service will be Christians – it’s not the ‘soldiers’ bit, it’s the ‘Christian’ bit.

“He’s going to have the hymn All People That on Earth Do Dwell instead.”

He added that the club’s chairman, Pete Green, was planning to boycott the service and just lay a wreath instead.

Rev Bailey has defended the decision to drop the hymn at the multi-faith event on 12th November.

In a statement issued through the Diocese of Leicester, Rev Bailey said: “We agreed the change in hymn with the Oadby Royal British Legion who run this major civic event because members of the community from a wide range of cultural backgrounds attend this parade, service and laying of wreaths at the war memorial.

“It is because the legion’s committee recognised that people from different…

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENTS MANUAL LESSON NINE (9) — THE HOLY SPIRIT: PERSONALITY AND ATTRIBUTES

TOPIC — THE HOLY SPIRIT: PERSONALITY AND ATTRIBUTES [SUNDAY OCTOBER 29TH, 2017]

MEMORY VERSE: “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” – John 14:26

BIBLE PASSAGE: John 16:1-11

INTRODUCTION:

The Holy Spirit is a Personality often misunderstood or misinterpreted in the Christian faith. His outstanding numerous qualities, diversities of operations and dramatic influence (as the successor of Jesus Christ) on the Apostles and the Christians as a whole, are so remarkable and worthy of considerations.

LESSON OUTLINES:

1. Who is the Holy Spirit?

2. What are His attributes?

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

The Holy Spirit is not a feeling or a falling, a crying or a wailing. He is no emotion. He is, however, a person. He is the third person of the Trinity otherwise known as the Comforter (John 16:5-7). He is the One that will make life more comfortable and profitable for His people especially as they engage in greater works than the Lord Jesus did (John 14:12). He is the Chief Executor of the divine programme on earth (John 15:26; 16:7-14) and the force behind every revealed plan of God. He is the Revealer of the hidden treasures of the kingdom of God (John 14:25-26). He is the key to the inheritance of the saints in glory (Ephesians 1:18; Colossians 1:12) and the Central Figure behind any breakthrough in life (Acts 1:8; 19:11-12). He is also the Revealer of the sonship of the sons of God (Romans 8:16). He was the divine interruption of an ungodly order, who supernaturally released the Apostles from the clutches of fear (of the Roman Empire) to the realm of exploits for God e.g. taking over the synagogues as if there were no priests there previously (Acts 6:7; 4:1-4).

WHAT ARE HIS ATTRIBUTES?

He is omnipresent (Psalm 139:7; Ephesians 2:17-18; 1Corinthians 12:13); omniscient (1Corinthians 2:10-11); omnipotent (Luke 1:35; Romans 8:11); eternal (Revelations 1:8). He comforts, teaches and guides (John 14:26, 15:26, 16:13). He reproves, helps, glorifies and intercedes (John 16:7-13; Romans 8:26). He is the oil of joy (Isaiah 61:3), the oil of gladness (Psalm 45:7). He is honoured as they are in the baptismal formula (Matthew 28:19), and in the apostolic benediction (2Corinthians 13:14). He receives the name (2Corinthians 3:17), and exercises the attributes of God (Romans 8:14; 1Corinthians 6:19). He is prayed to as God (Philippians 2:6-11). Sin against Him is sin against God (Acts 5:3-4; Ephesians 4:30) and blasphemy against Him is unpardonable (Matthew 12:31). Creation is ascribed to Him (Genesis 1:2; Job 26:13) and the working of miracles (Matthew 12:28; 1Corinthians 12:9-11). Worship is required and ascribed to Him (Isaiah 6:3; Acts 28:25).

CONCLUSION:

The Holy Spirit undoubtedly has a comforting ministry, which can be our experience today.

QUESTIONS:

1. Who exactly is the Holy Spirit?

2. What are the attributes of the Holy Spirit?

Memorise: This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; – 1 Timothy 1:18

Read: James 5:17-18 (KJV)

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Bible in One Year: Hebrews 9-10, Hosea 5-6, Hymn: Sing Hymn 1 – My Faith Looks Up To Thee

MESSAGE:

A prophecy is of little or no good to the one it has been sent if it does not move from the realm of the spirit into the physical realm. Your attitude to a prophecy plays a great role in determining its manifestation in the physical world. Today’s Bible reading tells us how best to relate with prophecies. Through it, we understand that it is important to pray before making a decree and also after you prophesy. At a time when the nation of Israel was in the grip of a serious national backsliding, Elijah stood before King Ahab and decreed that there would be no rain until he reversed that decree (1 Kings 17:1). Immediately after he made this decree, he went into seclusion. The king only heard the decree, but he did not know what went on behind the scenes. Apostle James tells us that Elijah prayed earnestly before he made this decree. After the nation had experienced intense famine for 31 and half years, God asked Elijah to show himself again to the king. Elijah then stood before King Ahab on Mount Carmel and told him to celebrate because he had heard the sound of abundant rain (1 Kings 18:41-46). He said this only after he had successfully turned the backslidden hearts of the children of Israel back to God. After making his declaration to Ahab, he left the presence of the King, fell on his face and prayed earnestly to God until his prophecy came to pass.

Never make a decree or release a prophecy without the backing of prayer. Several people have received certain prophecies that they knew without a doubt was meant for them, and yet they have not witnessed their manifestation in their lives, even while several others are testifying of the fulfilment of the same prophecies in their own lives. What could be wrong? The difference is that some heard, received the prophecy and prayed for its fulfilment, while others heard, received it, but did nothing afterwards. The good thing is that all is not lost; every prophecy that has been spoken into your life or that you have received is still hanging around in the spirit realm, waiting for you to bring it into the realm of the physical through your earnest prayer. A man who had been barren for over 30 years once asked God what he should do, and God said he should wait. When he attended one of our meetings, a prophecy came forth saying “the waiting period is over”. He thanked God, received it and prayed earnestly. That month, his wife conceived. Go ahead and pray for the manifestation of every prophecy God has sent to you that is yet to become reality in your life.

Key Point: Every prophecy can become reality if only you can apply the tool of effective, persistent prayer.

HYMN 1: MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE

Verse 1:
My faith looks up to thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine;
Now hear me while I pray;
Take all my guilt away.
O let me from this day
Be wholly thine!

Verse 2:
May thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire.
As thou hast died for me,
O may my love to thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!

Verse 3:
While life’s dark maze I tread
And griefs around me spread,
Be thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From thee aside.

Verse 4:
When life’s swift race is run,
Death’s cold work almost done,
Be near to me.
Blest Savior, then, in love
Fear and distrust remove.
O bear me safe above,
Redeemed and free!

When is All Souls’ Day and Why Do Christians Observe It?

REUTERS/Jayanta Dey

People light candles on the grave of their relatives before praying at a cemetery during the observance of All Souls Day in Agartala, India November 2, 2016.

All Souls Day is always observed on Nov. 2, and it falls on a Thursday this year.

Halloween, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day are all part of Allhallowtide, the three-day period that is meant to honor the dead, including martyrs, saints, and regular Christians. What sets All Souls Day apart from Halloween (otherwise known as All Hallows Eve) and All Saints Day is that the day is primarily meant to pray for the dead Christians who may still be in purgatory.

Christians, especially the Roman Catholic church, believes that a person who dies does not immediately go to heaven despite not having committed the so-called mortal sin. Instead, his soul will stay in purgatory, a place for purification, so that the soul can become holy before entering heaven.

Roman Catholic faithfuls believe that, for a soul in purgatory to be purified from his minor sins and eventually become holy, prayers from the living are needed. Hence, family and friends pray for the souls of their departed loved ones on November 2, with many sponsoring a mass in honor of the souls.

It is believed that All Souls’ Day dates back to the 9th century as it was a practice for monasteries to set a day to pray for their dead. While it was in the 11th century when a Benedictine abbot established November 2 as the day to honor the dead, it was only in 1915 when it became an official Roman Catholic tradition, thanks to Pope Benedict XV.

While there are still…
