The comments follow a request by Bridgend-based charity Fathers Reaching Out, for all new fathers to have the same mental health checks as mothers.

Traci Lowden-Stoole, Care for the Family’s national representative from the Isle of Man told Premier’s News Hour the charity was aware of the negative effects difficult or traumatic births can have on men.

She said: “Having a baby affects both parents and at Care for the Family we’ve been helping families for over 30 years.

“One of the key issues is the mother normally in most circumstances has a mummy chip that comes on when she finds out that she’s pregnant. So she is preparing for this birth the whole time she’s pregnant.

“Baby is telling her when she can go to the toilet, what food she can eat…for nine months, whereas dad only really gets a glimpse of actually how it’s going to change his life once it’s come into the home.”

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) said there were no plans to change its guidelines on the issue, according to the BBC.

Currently, all new mothers’ well-being is gauged using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale – a questionnaire which asks women to assess their mental state.

Rev Wingman Tsang, a Christian police chaplain from West Sussex told Premier why campaigns like this are needed.

Speaking during News Hour he said: “Because people don’t realise the danger of using their telephones, they think ‘well, I can do several things at once’.

“What they don’t realise is while they are using their mobile phones … they are actually going to be the cause of an accident that is so easily avoided.”

The effect of looking at your phone for 2.3 seconds whilst driving at 30 miles an hour means you miss looking at 100 feet of road.

In March 2017, the penalties for holding and using your phone while driving increased to 6 points and £200.

However, according to the RAC Report on Motoring 2017, 23 per cent of drivers admitted to using a handheld mobile at the wheel to make or take a call in the past 12 months, and 12 per cent admitted to checking texts, email or social media.

Teresa Wishart was found with head injuries at her home in Changford Road, Kirkby, Merseyside, on Thursday.

In a tribute issued via Merseyside Police, her family said: “Our mum lived in the same house in Kirkby since 1967 after moving there from Liverpool city centre.

“Along with our dad Christie, she brought up her four children.

“Her passion in life was her children, her faith and her home.

“She regularly attended St Mary’s RC Church in Northwood where she was a much loved and respected parishioner.

“She took great pride in her house, keeping it in perfect condition, which extended to the road outside.

“Everyone knew her in the local area and she was much loved and respected by friends and neighbours alike.

“We as a family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren, are devastated and heartbroken by this senseless act of violence.

“An innocent pensioner should have been safe and secure to live out the latter years of her life in the peace and comfort of her own home she worked so hard on all her life.

Charles Stapleton, 51, was due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday accused of the murder of Mrs Wishart and burglary.

The Reformed Evangelical Church of Indonesia had organised an open-air service at a football stadium in Yogyakarta, a city on an Indonesian Island. In their cancellation statement they called it ‘a national prayer service to mark 500 years of Reformation’.

But the Forum Ukhuwah Islamiyah (FUI), who are part of the Indonesian Ulema Council – a body of Muslims that converse between the Indonesian government and the Muslim community – wrote to the stadium officials asking them to not let the gathering go ahead because they believed it would involve evangelism.

They also threatened to disrupt the service if it went ahead.

The Christian organisers, led by the Reverend Stephen Tong, therefore cancelled the event “to avoid acts of intolerance”.
Police rejected the claim that hardliner pressure forced the cancellation of the service.

Yogyakarta police spokesman Yulianto said it did not go ahead because organizers did not have a permit to stage the event.

This is the second time a major Christian event has been cancelled in less than a year – a Christmas service in West Java, also led by Reverend Tong, was stopped by hardliners as well.
