Is God OK With Gay Marriage?

The debate continues within evangelical circles regarding acceptance of gay marriage. One pastor saying that embracing it is listening to the Holy Spirit while another maintains God’s standards have never changed and the Bible forbids it.

In a Friday conversation on Fox News’ “Spirited Debate,” host Lauren Green asked pastors Stan Mitchell and Shane Idleman whether Jack Phillips, a baker from Colorado, should be compelled by the state to violate his conscience and his religious beliefs about marriage. Phillips, who declined to make a same-sex wedding cake in 2012 and was ruled against in a state court, will have his case heard at the U.S. Supreme Court in December.

Mitchell, who leads GracePointe Church near Nashville, TN, and whose church affirms same-sex relationships, compared the issue to the civil rights struggle of African-Americans of the 1960s.

“In 1966, in Nashville, the question was could a black person sit and eat at a particular restaurant,” he explained. He noted that he was raised in the rural southeastern region of the United States where he was taught that segregation was a biblical “mandate” and where his moral forebears were…

New Zealand Christian group says Scotland should not ban smacking

New Zealand-based Family First NZ is fighting similar legislation there, saying it aims to “decriminalise parents who use light smacking for correction of children”.

According to the Scotsman publication, Bob McCoskrie, the national director and co-founder of Family First NZ, claimed the move will criminalise good parents and harm children.

He said: “A decade on from the passing of the controversial anti-smacking law in New Zealand, the law has maintained its very high level of opposition, but most significantly the law has had a ‘chilling’ effect on parenting, and rather than tackling rotten parents who are abusing their children, it has targeted well-functioning parents”.

The Scottish Government has declared it will support a member’s bill brought forward by Green MSP John Finnie to scrap the legal defence of justifiable assault for parents who physically discipline their children.

This will add Scotland to the list of 52 countries worldwide where physical punishment of children is outlawed.

The Scottish Government has said physical punishment can have “negative effects on children which can last long after the physical pain has died”.

However, Mr McCoskire feels differently, stating: “The politicians and anti-smacking lobby groups linked good parents who smacked their children with child abusers, a notion roundly rejected – and still rejected – by New Zealanders.

“We would warn Scottish parents that this law will harm and rip apart families.”

It’s Now Illegal to Evangelize in Nepal


Nepal’s president recently signed into law a bill making evangelism and conversion to another religion a punishable offense in the country.


According to The Christian Post, Nepalese President Bidhya Devi Bhandari signed into law legislation that makes evangelism and religious conversion punishable by up to five years in prison.


Bhandari reportedly signed the legislation on Oct. 16. Nepalese lawmakers initially passed bills against evangelism and conversion back in August.


Religious leaders in Nepal have decried the new law and said it is a step backwards for religious freedom. 


“We are deeply saddened that this bill is now law,” said Pastor Tanka Subedi, the founding member and chair of Dharmik Chautari Nepal and Religious Liberty Forum Nepal. “Our appeals to the president and other policy makers to amend this have been ignored. Nepali government have taken a regressive step as this law severely restricts our freedom of expression and our freedom of religion or belief.”


Other countries, such as India and Pakistan, have also adopted anti-evangelism, anti-conversion, and blasphemy laws. Leaders in Nepal worry that their new anti-evangelism law will have similar results of restricting religious freedom and targeting religious minorities.

Clashes in Brazil over controversial play about transgender Jesus

In “The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven” Jesus is reimagined as a transgender woman who tells Biblical stories of tolerance.

However, according to the Daily Mail, conservatives have called it offensive and have appealed to the courts for it to be banned.

One judge did grant an injunction, calling the play “disrespectful,” ”aggressive” and “in bad taste.” However, that decision was overturned on appeal and two other judges have rejected petitions for injunctions.

Despite the controversy the actress who performs the one-woman show, Renata Carvalho, was seemingly unrepentant, stating: “In Brazil, we have a very ugly habit of sweeping everything under the carpet.

“This just sheds light on what people think. I think it’s excellent that the masks are falling.”

The play has been performed more than 60 times during a tour of Brazil.

Christians in different countries have also protested the play, including the version performed by Jo Clifford in the UK.

According to the Christian Post, in 2015, Clifford (pictured) said: “The play imagines a transgender Jesus coming back to the world today,”

“She pitches a sermon and tells a few very familiar Gospel stories.

“She has a communion, shares bread and wine with the audience, which is really a gesture of solidarity in the face of death, and she gives a blessing.”

The production attracted close to 300 protesters when it was staged in 2009 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ethnic Cleansing in Myanmar has Become Full-Scale Genocide


The Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, where thousands of people have fled the killing in the country, is “genocide,” said Azeem Ibrahim, a senior fellow at the Center for Global Policy.


Ibrahim, in a column for CNN, said while the crisis has long been described an “ethnic cleansing,” the situation has turned into genocide.


The United Nation’s 1948 Genocide Convention defines genocide as acts that are committed with “intent to destroy” in the whole or part of a national, ethnical or racial or religious group by killing, causing bodily injury or mental harm, imposing measures to prevent births.


“Though the Rohingya situation has met most of the above criteria for being described as a genocide under international law for a number of years now, the label has been resisted until now because we think of genocide as one huge act of frenzied violence, like the machete insanity in Rwanda or the gas chambers of Nazi Germany,” he said.


Ibrahim says in Myanmar that Buddhist monks are preaching that the Rohingya are reincarnations of snakes and insects and killing them is a sort of “pest control.”


“The duty of any good Buddhist who wants to maintain the national and religious character of Myanmar is to prevent the Islamist takeover, and thus to help remove the threat posed by the ‘vermin,’” he says.

Gospel singer Michelle Williams has declared that she was not suicidal while a member of the group.

In an exclusive interview with online blog, the Jasmine Brand quotes her as stating: “I never said that I was suicidal while in the group!!

“I was depressed….that’s factual. Had been depressed BEFORE, DURING and AFTER the group. The suicidal thoughts came years after the group disbanded.”

Earlier, Michelle had been interviewed on US talk show, The Talk, and was quoted as saying: “I didn’t know until I was in my 30s what was going on.

“I just thought it was growing pains. I just thought, ‘I’m turning into a woman.’ I’ve been suffering since the ages of between 13 and 15. At that age, I didn’t know what to call it.”

While being managed in the group by Beyonce’s father, Matthew Knowles, she had said that he did not understand what she was going through, saying: “I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time, suffering with depression.

“When I disclosed it to our manager at the time, bless his heart, he was like, ‘Y’all just signed a multi-million dollar deal and you’re about to go on tour. What do you have to be depressed about?’ So I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I’m just tired.’”

Williams was a member of the group between 2000 and 2005, alongside Beyonce and Kelly Rowland.

Evangelist Says 400,000 People Gave Their Lives to Christ at Event in Ukraine


Evangelist Nick Vujicic often speaks to massive crowds of people. Recently, he and his team reported that 400,000 people gave their lives to Christ at an event in Ukraine.


Vujicic was born without arms or legs, but that hasn’t stopped him from being involved in an influential ministry, which is called Life Without Limbs.


According to The Christian Post, Vujicic recently held an event in Ukraine and afterward posted a message on Facebook about its abundant success:


“The biggest event that our team at Life Without Limbs has seen and maybe the largest event ever in Europe – 800,000 people in the streets of Kyiv Ukraine! Thank you God,” he posted.


“400,000 repented of their sins and began their spiritual journey with Jesus – Now LWL celebrates the witness of 1 million decisions to walk with and trust God in everything face to face,” he added.


Vujicic also shared that he was in Russia for part of his European evangelism tour. “In Russia for 40 hours. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to meet the President this trip but we continue to plant seeds of love and hope across this country until some unique doors open to share – thank you for your support!”
