Pastor Francis Chan warned an audience assembled at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, that too many Christians are ashamed of the gospel and, as a result, are changing their theology.

“We live in a time when Christians are starting to change their theology, because they’re ashamed of the words of Jesus Christ, because it’s not popular,” Chan said during an event called “America’s Tent of Meeting.” “We can busy our lives with good things that aren’t the most important thing, and I feel like there’s a cop-out in Christianity today.”

Tullian Tchividjian, Billy Graham’s Grandson, Says He ‘Selfishly Wrecked’ His Life After Sex Scandal

[ad_1]

(Photo: Facebook)Tullian Tchividjian appears in this updated profile photo he posted to Facebook on November 2, 2016 after remaining quiet on the platform for almost a year.

Tullian Tchividjian, the grandson of well-renown evangelist Billy Graham, is openly regretting his transgressions two years after he lost his church and wife to an adultery scandal.

In a recent blog post shared on his website, Tchividjian admitted he “selfishly wrecked” his life and the lives of many others. Although now remarried, he wanted to set the record straight.

“Whatever bad stuff you may have read or heard about me, whether it is true or false, this I can tell you for sure: I am way worse than anyone knows,” he said in the letter’s introduction.

“In fact, I am certain that if all my sins (thoughts, words, and deeds) over the last four decades were broadcast universally, the only person who would still love me is Jesus (and sometimes in my darkest moments of doubt and despair, I have wondered whether even he would),” the former ordained pastor said.

Tchividjian stepped down last summer from his position as pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after admitting to an extramarital affair. At the time, he also filed for divorce from his now ex-wife, Kim, and South Florida Presbytery likewise stripped him of his pastoral credentials.

(Photo: Facebook)Tullian Tchividjian and his new wife Stacie pose with their children from previous relationships.

In the blog, he said the consequences of his actions are “omnipresent” and his sin has damaged everything around him.

“There isn’t a day that goes by when I am not reminded, in some way, of what I’ve done and the damage I’ve caused,” Tchividjian continued.

The 45-year-old recalled recently visiting a Barnes & Nobles and spotting his name on a book of a young author who had asked him to endorse his work because of the value it would bring to his writing.

“There it was, my name, sticking out like a discrediting blemish on his hard work. I felt sick,” he loathed.

He said that moment reminded him of the “far reaching effects” of his sin and how so many people he’s never even met “were hurt” by him.

“God gifted me with a family to care for, people to love, a high calling, a life-giving message, and a large platform to shout it from-and I blew it,” Tchividjian said. “I blew it all when I had every reason (and opportunity) not to. And I alone am to blame for this.”

Although throughout most of the post, Tchividjian was lamenting over his past mistakes, he did offer some hope for those who find themselves in a similar situation as him.

“Here’s what I know: there are a lot of people out there just like me. People who live with guilt and shame and regret and sadness because of what they have done or failed to do. People who would do anything to go back in time and make different choices but are presently plagued by the realization that they can’t.”

Still sharing his minister’s heart for others, Tchividjian invited others who have fallen to turn to Jesus with him.

“Come with me to your deepest bottom, and together, there, let us find hope and comfort and love and forgiveness and grace and mercy,” he added. “Because the bad news that we are all guilty is met with the best news that God loves, forgives, and heals the broken hearts of guilty people. After all, God’s office of grace IS at the end of our rope.”

“Discover that we can still have hope amidst the ruins of our lives because Jesus plus nothing still equals everything,” he concluded.

Apple Updates Latest OS Anew to Fix iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 Issues

[ad_1]

REUTERS/Lucy NicholsonAn Apple store is seen in Los Angeles, California, United States, April 22, 2016.

Less than a month after it released the iOS 11, Apple has recently released the latest version of the iOS, the iOS 11.0.3.

As its name suggests, iOS 11.0.3 is the third update to the iOS 11, which was released last Sep. 19. With the arrival of the latest iOS, iPhone and iPad users can now bring back the old features they have lost as the update is all about bug fixes, again.

The issues that the iOS 11.0.3 are expected to deal with include the audio issues and haptic feedback that doesn’t work properly in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices. It is also expected to fix the issues of some iPhone 6s displays that don’t properly respond to touch in some cases.

So far, all the updates released for the iOS 11 have been in conjunction with security issues or bugs. For instance, the iOS 11.0.1 fixed a security flaw of the new iPhones. On the other hand, the iOS 11.0.2 came a week after the iOS 11.0.1 was released and fixed the crackling audio issues of the new iPhones. With these, some can’t help but opine that Apple rushed the release of its IOS 11.

While the three updates to the iOS 11 are nothing more than fixes, it is said that the OS will receive some major updates soon, specifically the iOS 11.1, which is already in its beta stage. Reportedly, this major update will enable the peer-to-peer Apple Pay transactions and usher the 3D Touch app switcher back into the system.

Meanwhile, mobile app developer Felix Krause has revealed on his personal blog that the iOS is vulnerable to phishing. According to Krause’s discovery, because iOS constantly requires Apple device owners for log-in details through pop-up dialog boxes, phishers have now found it easy to copy the users’ passwords and other details through fake pop-up dialog boxes that deceives users into voluntarily entering their passwords.

As Krause has revealed that the only way to find out if a pop-up dialogue box is legit or fake is to press the home button, explaining that the fake pop-up will close along with the app it appears with once the home button is pressed, will Apple deliver an update to the iOS that will address this security issue too?

Apple fans can only hope so.

Archbishop Justin Welby reveals mental health strain

[ad_1]

The Anglican leader described experiencing moments of hopelessness, during an intimate interview with Alistair Campbell at GQ magazine.

Asked whether he becomes depressed, Archbishop Justin answered: “I think if you had asked me a year ago I’d have said no, and ten years ago I would have said absolutely not.

“But what was that phrase Churchill used? ‘Black dog’. There is an element of that. I think as I am getting older I am realising it does come from time to time.

“I have those moments – you would know this – when objectively everything is fine, but you think you are, beyond description, hopeless.”

Archbishop Justin told Mr Campbell his response was to talk to God about his feelings. The 61 year old explained he had never sought professional help for the so-called ‘black dog’.

His frank comments come two months after his daughter Katherine Welby revealed how she had kept her own mental ill-health a secret from him.

The 31 year old, who was diagnosed with depression aged 19, told The Sunday Times that, despite her father’s public role in the Church, she decided initially not to seek his help.

Megachurch Pastor Forced to Flee His Home as California Wildfires Rage — Charisma News

The term “scorched earth” is usually one we associate with a military policy that targets anything that may be useful to the enemy. As a resident of Southern California, more specifically, Anaheim Hills, the term has recently taken on a different meaning.

Earlier this week, my wife and I were given 30 minutes to evacuate our home of 12 years. To make matters more complicated, I was en route to the airport when I received the text from my wife asking, “What do you want me to pack in the car? I have to leave in minutes.”

My mind raced trying to determine what was important and irreplaceable. All I could think of was family photos and the flag that draped my dad’s coffin at Arlington National Cemetery. In the midst of the chaos and disbelief, our friends and neighbors rallied to assist us in our time of need.

The next day, I found myself sitting in another airport trying to process everything that had happened in the past 24 hours. At first, I reflected on our kind neighbors and how even in the worst of times we can see the good in humanity and love of God. Then my thoughts shifted, and I began reflecting on the chaos, both natural and man-made, that has affected our nation in recent days. I began to wonder if I had become numb to all the tragedy. I don’t even have time to mourn the fact that we had to evacuate our home.

Thinking about all of this, I found myself asking, “Where is God?” As a nation, we are facing an increase in lawlessness and what appears to me, an unusual number of natural disasters.

Research Confirms ESMY Gene as the Culprit

[ad_1]

REUTERS/KhamA vendor sells peanuts at the Voi market, 20 km (12.5 miles) south of Hanoi.

Medical experts may soon find a way to treat peanut allergies after a research has already identified the gene that causes it.

A research of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology has revealed that, just like other food allergies, peanut allergies are also caused by the c11orf30/EMSY, or EMSY, gene. While the connection between EMSY and other allergy conditions, including eczema and asthma have already been established in the past, it was only recently confirmed that it is the same gene responsible for peanut allergies, too.

ESMY’s link to peanut allergies was established after medical researchers conducted a genetic analysis on 850 Canadian people with the allergy and 926 without it. The research aimed at identifying the genes that possibly place people at higher risks of developing an allergy to food and the results confirmed that ESMY is the culprit as well, although five other genes can be responsible for these allergies, too.

“Food allergy is the result of both genetic and environmental factors, but there are surprisingly few data regarding the genetic basis of this condition. The discovery of this genetic link gives us a fuller picture of the causes of food allergies, and this could eventually help doctors identify children at risk,” researcher Dr. Denise Daley said in the statement.

According to researcher Dr. Aida Eslami, one of the challenges that come with the development of new treatments for allergies is the process of identifying the specific genes and pathways that need to be targeted. With the results of the research suggesting that EMSY gene is responsible for causing peanut allergies, Eslami believes that it will be easier to predict and manage food allergy treatments in the future.

Based on the date of PeanutAllergy.com, more than three million Americans suffer from peanut allergy, and it is part of the so-called “Big 8” food allergies that account for 90 percent of allergies that 21 million Americans suffer from.

Currently, the only available treatment for severe peanut allergy is Epinephrine (adrenaline).

Lidl in fresh church cross removal row

[ad_1]

This follows the controversy that was sparked last month when the German supermarket chain digitally removed crosses on top of an iconic Greek church from its food packaging.

The latest row involves the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate in the village of Dolceacqua in the north-western region of Liguria.

Fulvio Gazzola, the mayor of Dolceacqua, made a formal complaint to Lidl, according to the Telegraph. He said the image of the church, with the crosses removed from its façade and its bell tower, for the supermarket’s promotional purposes, tampered with one of the best-known images of the village.

He added: “You need to show photos of Dolceacqua which correspond to reality. If you don’t want to show crosses, then use an image of our castle.

“Lidl said that removing religious symbols is part of an Italian and European publicity strategy. They are free to do what they want but they shouldn’t ruin photos. This is harmful to the image of our village and to our Christian traditions.”

While Lidl have claimed that the crosses had already been removed from the church when the image was obtained from a photographic database, they apologised for the image in a statement sent to the Telegraph.

Speaking to its “customers and to the inhabitants of Dolceacqua”, the supermarket said the image would be removed “immediately”.

Greek Orthodox Church leaders had urged for a Lidl boycott last month when a German shopper noticed that the supermarket giant had erased the symbols on the roof of the Greek Orthodox building in Santorini from products in its own-label Greek food range.

Research by Premier revealed the distorted image has appeared on products available in the UK, including Eirdanous Halloumi with Basil.

Wikimedia Commons

In a statement, Lidl UK told Premier: “We are extremely sorry for any offence caused by the most recent artwork and would like to reassure our customers that this is not an intentional statement.”

Open Heavens 13 October 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – God’s Watchman

Open Heavens 13 October 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – God's Watchman

Topic: God’s Watchman — Friday 13, October 2017.

Memorise: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. – Mark 16:15

Read: Ezekiel 33:1-6 (KJV)

1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:

3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;

4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.

6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

Bible in One Year: 2 Corinthians 4-7, Daniel 6:14-28, Hymn: Sing Hymn 13 – Wonderful Story of Love

MESSAGE:

Humanity is perishing every day because of sin. So many people are unaware of the truth of God’s word about the consequences of sin, and some who know this truth are drawing back from it. Due to the pervasiveness of iniquity in the world today, those who used to be very hot for the Lord are now cooling off in the flesh, while some have even departed from the faith completely. The irony of it all is that the Church is behaving as if all is well. The world is blind and needs to know about God. As God’s watchman, you are the light of the world. You are a city set on a hill, and you are the salt of the earth. However, are you measuring up to God’s expectation in the area of your responsibilities towards the great commission? How many sinners have you spoken to about the consequences of their actions? How many souls have you followed up this year? Many believers who are supposed to be God’s watchmen are now complacent; they are no longer aware of what the Spirit is saying. Today, there is so much religion without the visible demonstration of the power of the Holy Ghost. It is only through salvation in Jesus that there can be restoration of life to those dying in sin. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is for the purpose of going into all parts of the world to effect the deliverance of all those held captive by Satan (Acts 1:8)

Open Heavens 14 October 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – One With God Is A Majority

As God’s watchman, you cannot afford to remain empty spiritually. You must be fruitful (John 15:16). We need to wake up and start bearing fruit if we do not want to be condemned. Most of the things happening around us today that have become a threat to the Body of Christ are happening because we are not doing what God expects of us. If we preach the true gospel as handed over to us by the apostles of old, the Church of God today will be more vibrant, healthier and spiritually active. If you will be equipped for the great assignment of the great commission, you need to avoid falling into the sin of covetousness, pride, self-centeredness, love of money, and ambition for power. We need to go to God in prayer and ask for His fire to be released upon our hearts, so that we can recover lost grounds. To God’s watchmen, He is saying return to the great commission. To the great commission is God’s ultimate assignment and it entails transforming people from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light, through the power of Holy Ghost. Let the gospel be preached to all people in all places. If there are places you can’t go yourself, make arrangements to send other there to do the work. The gospel of reconciliation is a message of universal concern, and we can all make a difference as we play our part.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to play my role in Your Kingdom agenda.

Open Heavens Daily Devotional guide was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of the largest evangelical church in the world and also the President of Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries.

Development of Vaccine Necessary to Stop Spread

    [ad_1]

REUTERS/Eliseo FernandezA laboratory technician examines blood samples for HIV/AIDS in a public hospital in Valparaiso city, about 75 miles (120 km) northwest of Santiago, November 14, 2008.

Finding a cure for HIV-AIDS has been one of modern medicine’s greatest endeavors. However, according to the National Institutes of Health, development of an effective vaccine will be necessary to achieve a durable end to the disease’s spread.

Despite massive strides in the treatment and prevention of HIV infection, stamping out the pandemic seems to be a daunting task. In a recent commentary by Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), he said that ending the HIV/AIDS pandemic without a vaccine is unlikely.

Currently, antiretroviral therapy is being used both to improve the health of those living with HIV and prevents viral transmission to HIV-negative sexual partners. Strategies such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) were also successful in preventing the spread among people at high risk for infection. However, these aren’t enough to stem the spread of the virus from a practical point of view.

Globally, more than 17 million people living with HIV are not receiving antiretroviral therapy. This is compounded by the continual spread of the virus, an estimated 1.8 million worldwide in last year alone.

According to Dr. Fauci, even a modestly effective HIV vaccine could substantially slow the spread of HIV-AIDS if deployed alongside current treatment and prevention efforts. However, because the virus attacks the immune system itself, the vaccine cannot be as effective compared with other vaccines for diseases such as yellow fever and polio. Nevertheless, deployment of such a vaccine can curb the pandemic.

Additionally, achieving the primary goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) could further slow the spread of the disease and even save as many as 200,000 lives. Their goals are for 90 percent of HIV-positive individuals to know their diagnosis, and for 80 percent of those patients to achieve virologic suppression via antiretroviral therapy (ART) by 2020.

While an HIV-AIDS diagnosis is definitely a life-changing event, it doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Hopefully, continued research brings scientists closer to a cure and finally put an end to the scourge of the disease.
