When a kind act was done to someone in need, Jesus said it was done unto Him. The Lord deeply feels our hurts. When someone is neglected, Jesus says He is also being neglected. We have a high priest who is touched by the feelings of our infirmities (Heb. 4:15). When we hurt, He hurts. When we are blessed, He is blessed. The God of the universe is intricately involved with every detail of our lives.

How can we esteem others better than ourselves when really we think we are better than others? Some people are better athletes than others. Some are better businessmen than others. Some are better speakers than others, and so forth.

First, we need to recognize that our accomplishments don’t make us better than others. There is a difference between what we do and who we are. Better performance does not make a better person. A person’s character can be severely wanting even though his performance is good.

Secondly, to esteem someone better than ourselves simply means to value them more than we value ourselves. To some that may seem impossible, but it isn’t.

That is exactly what Jesus did. If Jesus, who was God in the flesh (1 Tim. 3:16), could humble Himself and value our good above His own welfare, then we should certainly be able to do the same. It can happen when we die to self and live to God.

If we think only about ourselves, we will be selfish. If we get out of self and think more about the benefit of others than the benefit of self, then we will be selfless. It’s a matter of focus.

Topic: Leave Foolishness Behind [Saturday October 7, 2017]

Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. – Proverbs 13:21

Satan has had us in a poverty mentality so long that it’s tough for us to grasp just how intensely God really does desire to prosper us—even though He’s demonstrated that desire again and again.

Take Abraham, for example. God made him an extremely wealthy man. Genesis 13:2 says he was rich in cattle, in silver and in gold.

Then, of course, there was Solomon. The Bible says he surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

God’s servant Job possessed such great wealth that he was called the greatest of all the men of the East. That was before Satan put him through the wringer. Afterward, God blessed him with more than twice what Satan had stolen.

The problem is, just the thought of the kind of wealth God gave to those men scares most believers today. They’re afraid it would destroy them.

God has said that “the prosperity of fools shall destroy them” (Proverbs 1:32).

But that doesn’t mean you should avoid being prosperous. It means you should avoid being a fool!

I challenge you, this week, to go to the book of Proverbs and find out for yourself what God says about the characteristics of a fool. Let the Holy Spirit search your heart. If you see ways in which you’ve been a fool, repent and make a firm decision not to be caught in that trap again.

Let the Word of God inspire you to leave foolishness behind and stir within you the faith to reach out and receive what you, as a redeemed child of the living God, have a divine right to—not the curse of poverty, but the blessing of prosperity!

Topic: You Are Redeemed To Do Exploits [07/10/2017]

And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do EXPLOITS. Daniel 11:32. Read: Ps 1:1-3

Just as we discovered yesterday that we’re redeemed to shine forth the life and light of God in us, we must also understand that every redeemed of God through the light in him or her is to live a lifestyle of exploits. Exploit is the birthright of the redeemed of the Lord, nothing short of that. Daniel says, the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits. When you are saved, you are given the privilege to know Him through the studying of His word because Jesus Christ said in John 5:39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me”. And through the studying of the Bible, we draw nigh to Him and Him to us. Jas 4:8. When we know God through His word, we do not only become strong and do exploit, we also have Him (being the greater) live in us. 1 Jn 4:4

As a redeemed of the Lord, you must not live a beggarly lifestyle because it doesn’t befit the saved. You must not live a stranded and confused life because there is an excellent spirit inside of you. The Holy Spirit is with you to guide you through. But God lamented and said in Isaiah  5:13, “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst”. Your liberation to do exploit is in the word of God, study it, eat it, meditate on it and take action.

MESSAGE:

As we already learnt yesterday, spending time on unfruitful ventures can cause a future filled with sorrow. Now the question is, what are you spending your time on? Our Bible reading for today says whatever is honourable, true, just and of good report is what we should spend our time on. It is very important that as a child of God, you should spend your time on things that glorify God.

When you devout your time to doing the things of God, you can be sure of a glorious future. Beware of the company you keep because bad company corrupts good character. Let the light of God shine through you so that the world will see and glorify your Father in Heaven. May the Lord help you at all times to be a good example in everything that you do in Jesus’ Name.

Key Point: What you spend your time doing has eternal consequences. Use your time wisely!

Topic: You Are Blessed in Christ — Saturday October 7, 2017.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Ephesians 1:3 KJV)

Oh! what a joy to know that we are made in the image of God. He made us in his image and likeness. I am tired of Christians who go about promoting curses. You are not cursed when you are connected to God. No, you are not under a curse. Irrespective of the background you came from, you are no more under a curse. The bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” You are blessed.

What does it mean to be blessed? It means you have been empowered to succeed. It means you are wired to succeed. Therefore, you cannot fail. That is why he’s able to tell you to be fruitful. He didn’t say be seedful, he said be fruitful because you already have a seed. You have something to offer. The  world is waiting for you. Society is waiting for you. Be fruitful, be productive, increase, replenish yourself, distribute yourself, subdue the earth, control the market, have dominion, dominate that place. Yet believers are going about with cups in their hands. I am tired of this!

Ecclesiastes 10:5-7 says, there is an evil which I have seen under the earth, it proceeds from the ruler. Oh yes, he said servants are riding on horses and princes are walking as servants upon the earth. Princes are walking about with cups in their hands. The devil is a liar. You are coming back on your horse. You will take back your possessions. You are not a nobody. Heaven reckons with you. You carry power. There is a power at work in you that makes the rulers of darkness to tremble. You are God’s powerhouse. You are anointed by God to work the works of God. You are God’s authorized agent to distribute heaven’s abundance. Stop looking down on yourself. Believe and receive whom God has made you in Christ Jesus.

How long, Lord, must I call for help? Habakkuk 1:2

When I married, I thought I would have children immediately. That did not happen, and the pain of infertility brought me to my knees. I often cried out to God, “How long?” I knew God could change my circumstance. Why wasn’t He?

Are you waiting on God? Are you asking, How long, Lord, before justice prevails in our world? Before there is a cure for cancer? Before I am no longer in debt?

The prophet Habakkuk was well acquainted with that feeling. In the seventh century bc, he cried out to the Lord: “How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not save? Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?” (Hab. 1:2–3). He prayed for a long time, struggling to reconcile how a just and powerful God could allow wickedness, injustice, and corruption to continue in Judah. As far as Habakkuk was concerned, God should have already intervened. Why was God doing nothing?

There are days when we too feel as if God is doing nothing. Like Habakkuk, we have continuously asked God, “How long?”

Yet, we are not alone. As with Habakkuk, God hears our burdens. We must continue to cast them on the Lord because He cares for us. God hears us and, in His time, will give an answer.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for bearing my burdens. I know that You hear my cries and will answer in accordance to Your perfect plan and purposes.

Don’t despair because of evil; God will have the last word.

Insight:

Like Habakkuk, the psalmist David understood that life’s challenges get harder the longer they last. David asked “How long?” four times in just two verses, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” (Ps. 13:1–2, emphasis added).

When you struggle, can you identify with Habakkuk and David? Does it feel like help is far away? Consider Lamentations 3:22–23, and let it encourage you to trust in God’s faithful care. Bill Crowder

Thought For The Day: Every time there is the use of the right sense, there is a change of season.

Yesterday, we saw the importance of awareness in the life of every child of God. We also learnt that mindset affects welfare; the things that occupy the mind affect how one will fare in life. Anyone who is down in life must have a change of mind in order to move up to where he/she belongs.

It was the moment the prodigal son changed his mentality that his locality changed (Luke 15:17-19). Every time there is the use of the right sense, there is a change of season. When you come to your senses, you come to your changes.

Today, we want to establish that one of the things awareness does is that it affects the atmosphere and environment of a person. Awareness produces a positive atmosphere and that atmosphere determines attraction. You cannot have the mentality of a king and behave like a slave. Everything that happens to a person happens from the inside. Your mindset affects the way you think and talk. The picture you have in your mind affects the picture of the life you see around you.

Beloved, if you do not like the way things are around your life, begin to change what is going on the inside of you.

I prophesy to you: the capacity to enlarge your thought, imagination and thinking is on you right now, in Jesus’ Name!

Remember This: Every time there is the use of the right sense, there is a change of season.

1. Ask God to engrace you with the right mentality.

2. Ensure you acquire positive information on a daily basis.

Prayer: O LORD, I ask for the grace to think correctly always. I erase every negative thought that has followed me from time past, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Order And Decency — Saturday October 7, 2017.

Text: Deuteronomy 21:1-9

Key Verse: “So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 21:9).

Evil practices, blood-letting, primordial and bestial practices demean men and poison communal space. In the Old Testament, when a crime was committed and the criminal went away, the whole community was held responsible.

God was pointing to the need for the whole community to feel a keen sense of responsibility for what was going on around them and to move to correct situations that were potentially harmful either physically, socially or morally. Although the people were innocent of the act, the elders must still ask the Lord’s forgiveness for the shedding of innocent blood.

And an honest attempt must be made to seek for justice. The elders represented the citizens at large. The judges, magistrates and priests from the nearest town of priest were likewise to be at hand. Thus, all classes would be represented at the purging away of that blood-guiltiness which until removed, was attached to the whole community. The requirement as regards place and victim are symbolic. The heifer represented the murderer, to die in his stead, since he could not be found.

The heifer must be of full growth and strength, and must not have been ceremonially profaned by human use. As saints of God, when we know that an innocent party within our area has been wronged, we are not to turn our backs and say that we are not involved. Even the simple act of publicly condemning such action as displeasing to God would remind those who hear that God sees all and will judge the perpetrators of sin. However, if you are the one that is unjustly treated or accused, you should peacefully approach the throne of mercy and the all-seeing God will vindicate you at the set time. Never, for whatever consideration, resort to self-help in settling scores.

Thought for the day: A responsible life that pleases God is based on His word.

MESSAGE:

A lot of people think it impossible to live a life of faithfulness, and for this reason, unfaithfulness has become a norm in today’s world. The world may tolerate unfaithfulness and live with its consequences, but we as children of God cannot afford to live a life of unfaithfulness. The Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 4:2 notifies us of God’s requirement in this regard.

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Faithfulness has a secret which many may not recognise because of its simplicity. This secret is revealed in today’s memory verse. It is contentment. Discontentment – an off-shoot of godlessness – makes a person live an unfaithful life. When you are contented with what you have, you won’t indulge in ungodly or immoral acts in order to get what you do not have. When you live a life of contentment, you won’t like King Ahab misuse your position to entrap an innocent person, so that you can take over what belongs to him or her (1 Kings 21). Contentment will prevent you from being envious of people under you who are being celebrated for faithfully discharging their duties to the glory of God. Lack of contentment made Haman hate Mordecai, so much so that he planned to get rid of an innocent, dutiful but uncompromising doorman (Esther 5:11-14). Haman misused his position as a member of the king’s cabinet to pursue the destruction of innocent people (Esther 3:8-11). This is exactly what some people in privileged positions are doing today, even though this is to their own peril.

Faithfulness applies in terms of money and position, but it is also applicable in the use of your time. This is manifested in such areas as the time you are expected to spend at your place of work. It is ignorance that makes a child of God to think that he or she can spend just two out of the required eight hours at work, and then expect commendation by the God of Justice, when he or she brings the tithe of wages he or she did not work for. The Name of the Lord is blasphemed when a so-called child of God absconds from work for days – pursuing “missions”- only to come back and collect full wages covering the period of absence, in the full glare of unbelievers. God’s requirement of our faithfulness in stewardship applies to every area of our lives. My prayer is that the Almighty God will open your eyes to see the different areas of life you are lacking in faithfulness, and grant you grace to live faithfully in all these areas. Through faithfulness, unbelievers will see the light and glorify your Father who is in Heaven. This virtue of faithfulness was the reason why employers of labour came to our Church in those days to recruit workers for their secular establishments. May God bring such days back to us in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, through Your Spirit, please help me to be faithful in life as a steward of the Name of Jesus Christ.
