Topic: Go Forward — Tuesday September 19, 2017.

‘’I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gate of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:’ (Isaiah 45:2 KJV)

Often times in our walk with God, we get to certain roadblocks and we don’t know what next to do. Today, I come to announce to you to go forward. In Exodus 14, Pharaoh reluctantly gave permission to God’s people in Egypt to leave, but almost immediately, he and his cohorts pursued them with horses and chariots to bring them back to bondage and slavery. You can see that the devil would always attempt to fight the plans and purposes of God over your life. At the Red sea, God’s people became stuck and Pharaoh intensified his pursuit thinking he had them pinned down but unknown to him, it was a set up to wipe them all out.

Rather than surrender to the enemy, God commanded Moses to tell the people to go forward. Moses would have thought to himself, how can we go forward when the Red Sea is right in front of us? However, all he heard was go forward as impossible as it sounded. God had spoken and there was no going back. God was saying in effect, you may not see a way through the sea, but I am going to make a way for you even where none exists.

The clincher however, was that Moses obeyed what God had said. Acting on what God said, the people walked through the sea supernaturally, without struggle and continued their journey as if nothing happened. You can now see that obedience to divine instruction is key to obtaining victory in life.

I declare that no plan of the enemy concerning your life will come to pass. God will prove himself in your life. You will experience the supernatural. You will see the goodness of God in your life. God has spoken concerning this year so expect great things to happen for you. It is a decision you must take. You must choose to believe God for what he has said. Don’t cancel yourself out.

Topic: Not For The Unclean — Tuesday September 19, 2017.

Text: Leviticus 22:1-16

Key Verse: “Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD”( Leviticus 22:3)

Robert Murray McCheyne wrote to Dan Edwards after the latter’s ordination as a missionary that: “In great measure, according to the purity and perfections of the instrument, will be the success. It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God”.

From our text, the Lord warned the house of Aaron against making unholy use of dedicated things. Specifically, the Lord commanded Aaron to ensure any of the priest’s children who had any uncleanness was disallowed from eating hallowed food dedicated by the Lord’s people until such a person is cleansed and cleared accordingly. The consequence of violating those commandments could lead to premature or sudden death.

Strangers, visitors or hired servants (except those bought with money) are prohibited from eating holy things dedicated to the Lord. The lesson we’re learning here is that God is holy and therefore cannot bear with any one of His children who is spiritually defiled. Sin is evil and should be seen to be evil. The application today is that God will not give hallowed things to unclean, immoral and defiled servants of His.

The scripture says: “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine…” (Matthew 7:6). In the same vein, God will not receive money or donations from unclean and unholy sources. The fact that ceremonial laws have been done away with together with the Old Testament rituals is not an excuse for vicars, pastors and shepherds to encourage their children who are publicly accused of immoral and riotous behaviour to do any manner of service in the sanctuary of God. His moral requirement and His demand for purity, especially in the house of God, has not changed.

Thought for the day: A holy minister is an awesome weapon in the hand of God.

MESSAGE:

It’s a fact of life that we are all susceptible to making mistakes. However, when we make mistakes, we must have the strength of character to admit our mistakes and also to resolve never to repeat them again (Proverbs 28:13). A child learning to walk will stand up, take a step or two and fall down again. You will observe however that in spite of these falls, he or she does not give up trying. The child will repeatedly make attempts at walking, and in the process of time, that child will not only walk, he or she will also run, leap and jump, all without falling to the ground like before. Do not turn a mistake into your final destination. Can you believe that because some people made a mistake in their walk of faith in Christ, they gave up the race entirely and decided to die there? That is most unfortunate! Some people cannot forgive themselves for either denying Jesus at a very crucial moment when their faith was tested, or for falling into a particular sin that they have been preaching against all along. Such people need to learn from the example of Apostle Peter, who thrice denied Christ. The Lord had to make him realise that it was not over yet. That same Peter was the one who later led the other disciples in defending their faith in Christ and in propagating the Good News of the gospel around the world

One lesson from this scripture is that the fact that you slipped and fell does not mean that the enemy has won the battle over your life. He hasn’t. It also says that there is the possibility of a comeback. From where you fell, you shall arise in Jesus’ Name! Your rise shall be more formidable! You may say that your case is a bad one because you have fallen so many times and you therefore concluded that it was better to stop trying. Oh, how wrong you are! Proverbs 24:16 says it is possible for a righteous man to fall seven times and still rise. To fall seven times simply refers to the possibility of falling to a point of experiencing what most people will call the final or ultimate fall. Yet, even at that, if you are a child of God, the Lord says that you should not give up hope. Make another attempt at reconciling with the Lord, confess your weakness to Him, and ask for His help. He will lift you up and He will sustain you afterwards. So are you still on the floor? Arise now!

Key Point: Falling and rising in the Christian faith does not make you a failure; it only shows that you are at the babyhood stage of maturity and would need to trust Jesus Christ the more.

Matthew 22:23 “The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,”

Text: Matthew 22:23

The Greek word used here for resurrection means “a standing or rising up.” The resurrection is a major theme of New Testament teaching. Out of the 13 sermons in the book of Acts, 11 stress or simply mention the resurrection.

Man consists of three parts – a spirit, a soul, and a body (1 Th. 5:23). The body is mortal while the spirit and soul are immortal. At death, man’s body goes through the decomposition process and returns to its original elements.

At the resurrection, man’s departed soul and spirit are called forth from either heaven or hell. The material elements of the body are raised up, reassembled, and united with the spirit and soul. Thus we have the complete personality of the individual reconstituted. Everyone will be resurrected – some to life, and some to damnation.

The hope of the believer is the resurrection unto life. The natural, earthly, terrestrial, corrupt, weak, mortal, vile body is said to be raised, changed and fashioned into a spiritual, heavenly, celestial, incorrupt, glorious, powerful, and immortal body. This is the completion of everything that has been purchased for us in Christ.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:12-17 that if there is no resurrection, then our faith is vain and we are yet in our sins. It is the resurrected life of Jesus that brings spiritual life into us and the resurrection of the body that brings physical regeneration, reconstituting us into the very image of God. The transformation from this physical condition to our glorified bodies will be a huge difference, but the power of God can accomplish it easily. If the Lord can work that miracle, then surely, He can heal our bodies and free us from other bondages.

I do not quarrel with Karl Marx’s statement that “religion is the opiate of the people.” I never try to defend religion. Religion has spawned wars. Many so-called religious people have been characterized by prejudice, pride, bickering, and even tolerance for slavery. However, I would call you to a simple faith in Jesus, who said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Are you really concerned? Are you disappointed with society? If you are, I challenge you to take the first step. I challenge you to look at yourself.

Prayer for the day: Forgive me, for so often failing to love my neighbor. May my life speak to others of Your love and compassion, Lord Jesus Christ.

Topic: A Word About Angels [Tuesday September 19, 2017]

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. – Psalm 91:11

It’s time to set the record straight. Angels are not kid stuff. They’re not little fat babies with long blonde hair and bows and arrows in their hands. Angels are big, strong warriors. They are real. They are powerful. And if you are a believer, they are a vital part of your life.

We see examples of what angels can do all through the Bible. For instance, when the children of Israel were fleeing from Egypt with Pharaoh’s army hot on their heels, the Bible tells us that suddenly the wheels on the Egyptians’ chariots got fouled up. They just quit rolling!

Who do you think caused that? The angels, of course!

They haven’t retired since then either. Angels are at work today just as they’ve always been.

A few years ago in one of Israel’s major wars, the enemy had their guns trained on Israeli cities. Those guns were the finest military equipment money could buy. They had a range of at least 20 miles and were equipped with electronic gun sights for accuracy.

But something very odd happened. Every time they fired those guns at the Israelis, they either overshot or fell far short of their targets. We know there was nothing wrong with the guns because later the Israelis captured them and fired them back at the enemy with perfect success.

What happened? Angels, that’s what!

My friend, that isn’t just a fairy tale. That’s a real-life example of the involvement of angels in the lives of God’s people today. And, if you’re a child of God, you have a right to expect God’s angels to do the same kind of things for you.

So, start expecting! Say, “Thank You, heavenly Father, for giving Your angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways.” Once you’ve spoken that word of faith, stand fast. Don’t fear. Don’t waver. Just be patient and keep believing, and you will surely see the salvation of the Lord.

Thought For The Day: God has the capacity to suture a future that is ruptured.

It is very clear from God’s word that what a person knows determines what He or she can show. Understanding is key to an outstanding life. Many people are living below average, not because they were created by God to be like that but because they lack understanding.

One fundamental knowledge or understanding a man needs on earth is the knowledge of God (Daniel 12:30).

It is very important to know that God is everything to us in life. One of His treasured names is Jehovah Rapha.

What does this mean? Jehovah Rapha means God is your Mender, Repairer or Tailor. This means that God has the capacity to suture the future that is ruptured. He is the Lord God your Tailor.

A young man testified some time ago that his father and mother had been separated for about 18 years and he was in the service when the word of knowledge about his family came. Not too long after, he came back to testify that after 18 years of separation, the marriage was sutured and his parents were back together.

Only Jehovah can do such a thing.

Beloved, I prophesy that Jehovah Rapha will suture your life, marriage, destiny, finances, business, or physical body in the name of Jesus.

Remember this: God has the capacity to suture a future that is ruptured.

1. Ask God to suture every ruptured part of your life.

2. Submit and surrender to the suturing power of God.

“His piece is bigger than mine!”

When I was a boy my brothers and I would sometimes bicker about the size of the piece of homemade pie mom served us. One day Dad observed our antics with a lifted eyebrow, and smiled at Mom as he lifted his plate: “Please just give me a piece as big as your heart.” My brothers and I watched in stunned silence as Mom laughed and offered him the largest portion of all.

If we focus on others’ possessions, jealousy too often results. Yet God’s Word lifts our eyes to something of far greater worth than earthly possessions. The psalmist writes, “You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart” (Ps. 119:57–58). Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the writer conveyed the truth that nothing matters more than closeness to God.

What better portion could we have than our loving and limitless Creator? Nothing on earth can compare with Him, and nothing can take Him away from us. Human longing is an expansive void; one may have “everything” in the world and still be miserable. But when God is our source of happiness, we are truly content. There’s a space within us only God can fill. He alone can give us the peace that matches our hearts.

Prayer: Loving Lord, thank You that nothing and no one can meet my every need like You can.

When we are His, He is ours, forever.

Insight:

In Philippians 4:12, the key verse for today, the apostle Paul says he’s learned the secret of being content. Yet for Paul, life wasn’t easy—especially life as an evangelist. In another letter written by him, Paul lists the many trials he faced: five times he was brutally whipped, three times beaten with rods, and once pelted with stones. He was in danger at sea and on land, was imprisoned several times, and often went without sleep or food (see 2 Cor. 11:23–27). How could Paul be content in such difficult circumstances? What was his “secret”? He wrote, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Phil. 4:13). Because of the strength God gave him, Paul could be content “whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want” (v. 12).

Do you struggle with contentment? Ask God to give you the strength to be content in your situation.

(2 Kings 5:15-27).

A King once met a gypsy ( Member of a group of Shepherds based in Europe who are actually Hindus) on horseback on the way home from a journey and the gypsy asked him: “On what account would you prefer to lose your kingship?” The King replied: “On account of wine or women and not because of money.” “Why?”asked the gypsy and the King replied sharply: “Because losing my crown for the sake of money will make me look like a thief.” To the king, a thief is more intolerable than a drunk and a flirt, but as far as God is concerned, on no account should you fall because no evil is more tolerable than the other. Sin is sin and has no category! God wants you to use today’s devotional to answer the questions: “What can make you fall? What is making you to fall?”

Hear Saint Augustine: “The man who lives according to God, owes a perfect hatred to evil men; not that he should hate the man on account of his fault, nor love the fault because of the man.” Get the message: You must hate that weakness and not yourself. Samson fell by women! David, by a woman! Gehazi fell by money! Judas by money! Moses fell by the effect of pride and anger; Lucifer fell by the effect of pride!

Deal with whatever can make you fall or is making you to fall. Robert Wilensky wrote: “No man chooses evil because it evil; he only mistakes it for the happiness, the good he seeks.” That weakness if not conquered can become your window of tears because sin fascinates, then assassinate!
