Government Leader Demands Christians Must Convert, Pay Taxes or Be Killed

A video showing a call for jihad from a senior Iraqi Shi’ite cleric has caused anger among Iraqi Christians.

The undated footage shows Sheikh Alaa Al-Mousawi, head of the Shia Endowment, a government body that looks after Iraq’s Shia holy sites, describing Christians as “infidels”, saying “either they should convert to Islam, or else they are killed or they pay the jizya,” which is a tax on non-Muslims. When challenged, Al-Mousawi was reported to have said the video dates back three years. Other local reports say that the video is more recent.

Almost 200 Iraqi Christian families have filed a lawsuit against the government-appointed cleric on charges of “incitement of sectarian violence against Christians.” Meanwhile, Al-Mousawi has sent a delegation from the Shia Endowment to the Babylonian Christian Movement to mediate the lawsuit.

The statement is a chilling reminder of when Islamic State (IS) captured towns in the Nineveh plains in June 2014, reinstating the same traditional Islamic ultimatum to Christians.

“Al-Mousawi’s call reminds us of the extremist rhetoric issued by radical groups like IS,” said Henriette Kats, an analyst for the World Watch Research Unit of Open Doors International which works to support the global church under pressure.

“There are many other extremist Islamic groups active in Iraq which target local religious minorities, including Christians. However, for such incitements to come from senior government officials is rare and is all the more shocking.”

The news will disappoint displaced Iraqi Christians told by the authorities it is now safe to return to homes in the Nineveh plains liberated from Islamic State. To many Iraqi Christians living in the capital, Baghdad, it is further confirmation that they must stay and continue working in dangerous places.

Living under threat has always been a reality for Joseph, an Iraqi church leader.

Just three weeks after his wedding in 2007, a bomb exploded in the car he was driving.

“All of a sudden, there was this huge explosion. I was totally confused and I couldn’t see anymore. I heard a woman screaming: ‘This man is dying,’ and I thought: ‘This is it, I am dying.’ But somehow I got out of the car.”

Joseph escaped unscathed. With his sight recovered, he saw that all that was left of the car was his driving seat.

“I found pieces of glass in my hair and four parts of the bomb in my scarf.

“God encouraged me that day,” he said. “And when, seven years later, IS took control of big parts of Iraq and Muslims started coming to Christ, I understood why He wanted me to stay. So when someone asks me why I remain with my family in Baghdad, I tell them this story. I know God is with me each moment.”

Now married with two children, Joseph said violence in Baghdad is random—people in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he chooses to stay in the city, helping people with their new-found faith.

New believers bring ‘new culture’ to church

“We have new blood, new believers. That is a challenge because it brings a new culture to the church. Recently a man converted [from Islam]. He is married to three wives and has children with all of them. He asked me what to do. I told him to keep them; what else could I say? This is only one of the problems we are facing because of the new converts.”  … read more

US Immigration to Deport More Than 100 Christian Refugees

U.S. immigration authorities have arrested and moved to deport 199 Iraqi immigrants, mostly from the Detroit area, in the last three weeks after Iraq agreed to accept deportees as part of a deal removing it from President Donald Trump’s travel ban, officials said on Wednesday.

In the Detroit area, 114 Iraqi nationals were arrested over the weekend, and 85 throughout the rest of the country over the past several weeks, Gillian Christensen, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, said in a statement.

The actions came as part of the Trump administration’s push to increase immigration enforcement and make countries, which have resisted in the past, take back nationals ordered deported from the United States.

The crackdown on Iraqi immigrants followed the U.S. government’s decision to drop Iraq from a list of Muslim-majority nations targeted by a revised version of Trump’s temporary travel ban issued in March.

The overwhelming majority of those arrested had criminal convictions for crimes including murder, rape, assault, kidnapping, burglary, drug trafficking, weapons violations and other offenses, Christensen said.

As of April 17, 2017, there were 1,444 Iraqi nationals with final orders for removal, she said. Since the March 12 agreement with Iraq regarding deportees, eight Iraqi nationals have been removed to Iraq.

Dozens of Iraqi Chaldean Catholics in Detroit were among those targeted in the immigration sweeps, some of whom fear they will be killed if deported to their home country, immigration attorneys and family members said.

“It is very worrisome that ICE has signaled its intention to remove Chaldean Christians to Iraq where their safety not only cannot be guaranteed, but where they face persecution and death for their religious beliefs,” Martin Manna, president of the Chaldean Community Foundation, said in a statement on Wednesday  … read more

How to Know If You Are Called to Missions

Chrisma report –  One of the most frequent questions asked related to missions is: How do I know that I am called?

It’s a question we hear all the time at Bethany Global University, since our school is dedicated solely to training missionaries. If you’re curious, you can learn more how you can earn your degree while doing missions at bethanygu.edu.

While there are many ways in which God leads and guides His people into world missions, there have been two classic answers that people tend to give: “You don’t need a call because He has already called you” and “You better know God has called you before you go.” I believe a combination of both is necessary.

The ‘Everybody Is Called’ Perspective

On one side of the coin, you have the often quoted line from the late singer Keith Green, who stated that “You don’t need a call. You’re already called!” Another person has stated that “You don’t need a call when you have a verse” referring to the multitude of Bible verses in the Old and New Testament that form part of God’s revealed will (the Great Commission) that we go to all nations and preach the gospel.

In another song, Keith Green wrote: KeithGreen

Listen to the full song here.

Keith Green had to go to the extreme end of the spectrum to balance out the Church that emphasized a need for a special revelation or manifestation to go to the mission field.

Think for a minute of what the world would look like today if every Christian literally embraced God’s command to go and sincerely said to God, “I am going to the nations to preach the gospel. If it’s not Your will for me to go, stop me!” I can hear many of you saying, “That’s too radical and extreme!” Yet to be truthful, we have gone to the other extreme, not bearing the spiritual fruit I believe the Holy Spirit desires.

I believe that as we get to know God’s character and study His Word, it becomes impossible not to know His will! We cannot be moved by a message that does not move us first; therefore, it is vital and necessary to understand God’s global plan and what He desires for His Church. Understanding where we fit in this plan is another thing altogether, and the best way to describe this, in my opinion, is that it is a process  … read more

Open Heavens 20 June 2017: Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Evangelism: Be More Proactive

Topic — Evangelism: Be More Proactive [Tuesday 20, June 2017]

Memorise: Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: Proverbs 24:3

Read: Acts 5:12-16 (KJV)

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Bible in One Year: Judges 10-11, Jeremiah 50:44-51:11, Hymn: Sing hymn 13

MESSAGE:

Soul winning can trigger the miraculous, as seen in the lives of the apostles. If you really want signs and wonders to attend to your life and ministry, you must be prepared to declare Jesus Christ at every opportunity you have, and if you lack such opportunities, you must be prepared to create them. In our Bible reading for today, it is recorded that through the hands of the apostles, several miracles were performed. This was a generic statement affecting all the apostles because they were all preaching the word of God (Acts 5:12). After this generic statement was made, Peter was singled out. Concerning him, it was said that he did not need to lay hands before miracles took place; rather, even his shadow was conducting deliverance and healing services while he was busy moving from place to place. Why was this so? How did Peter excel in signs and wonders? lt was because he took advantage of every opportunity he had to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He could face any crowd and declare his faith in Jesus Christ to them (See Acts 2 & Acts 3). God saw this attitude and was quite impressed, and He said,

”Since you are unstoppable in declaring My word, signs and wonders will never cease in your life.”

Can you take the act of witnessing to such limits as you have never been before? In various life endeavours, several Christians plan, set goals and targets, and come up with strategies to accomplish them, but when it comes to soul-winning they don’t do any of these. As a marketer, you devise plans on how to reach out to a larger segment of the market and on how to get a larger market share for your products. That is how it should be for soul-winning too. What is your plan or strategy for winning more souls to Christ this year? For many individuals, couples or families, there is no plan for evangelism. No specific number of converts is being targeted daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. Due to this lack of planning, some people cannot boast of five converts in 12 months. What a shame! Several opportunities that God gave us to win souls have been lost to lack of planning. If you set a monthly target of winning 20 souls, you will take every opportunity that comes your way more seriously and exploit them in order to achieve your target. Success in evangelism can never be attained without a plan. Repent today and become more proactive in evangelism. Come up with a plan for the year and prayerfully pursue it. It shall be achieved in Jesus’ Name.

Action Point: Draw up a one-year evangelism plan stating the number of souls to be won daily, weekly and monthly, and prayerfully execute it.

Joel and Victoria Osteen’s daily devotional June 19, 2017 – No More Limits

Today’s Scripture: “They turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.” – (Psalm 78:41, KJV)

Topic: No More Limits [Monday June 19, 2017]

God is a God of increase. He wants to take you to new levels and higher heights. But sometimes, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut and just settle for status quo. Sometimes we think, “Well, I’ve reached my limits. I’ve gone as far as I can go. This is as happy as I’ll ever be.” But if we’re going to continue to increase and really experience God’s best, we have to align our thinking with God’s thinking.

It’s interesting that in this scripture, the people limited the Holy One of Israel. Think about that. You and I can actually limit the all-powerful Creator of the universe. How? By our thinking. What we believe either opens the door for God to move or it closes the door. God is limited in our lives by what we believe. So many people don’t even realize that it’s their own wrong thinking that keeps them in mediocrity.

Today, why don’t you take the limits off by choosing to believe God?! Feed your faith by studying His Word. Keep an open heart and mind before Him. Allow Him to work in your life and watch Him open up doors of blessing that you’ve never seen before!

A Prayer for Today: “Father God, today I choose to believe You. I take the limits off by trusting that You have good plans for my future. I invite You to search my heart and remove anything that isn’t pleasing to You. I bless You today and always in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

5 Foods Nursing Mothers Must Avoid

You spent the last nine months streamlining what you eat and drink in order to ensure that what you put in your stomach does not affect your baby’s development. Now that you are nursing your baby, you still have to be careful of what you eat. It is, therefore, essential that mothers maintain regular meals when breastfeeding to acquire important nutrients and also to increase their breast milk. Regardless, Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares some foods women should avoid while breastfeeding.

Fish

You don’t need to abandon fish completely, but you need to be selective about what types of seafood you eat. Some fishes can be high in mercury, which can find its way into your milk supply. So, before you eat any fish especially the packaged ones, ensure it does not have mercury.

Alcohol

Alcohol can get into your breast milk and can negatively affect your child. It is advisable to avoid it but if you have to drink, it will take 1-2 hours for it to dissolve. That means you have to wait for that number of hours if you do not want to feed your baby with breast milk mixed with alcohol. Just don’t drink alcohol.

Caffeine

For women who love coffee, they have to wait after breastfeeding before they resume drinking it. It’s important to know that caffeine also finds its way into your breast milk. If this is the case, your baby’s body will be unable to process the caffeine as quickly as an adult’s body. You do not want to keep your baby awake.

Garlic and ginger

Garlic and ginger can smell in your breast milk. If you find that your baby is reluctant to nurse, it may be because you have eaten garlic or ginger.

Dairy products

Normally, breastfeeding your baby with milk or other dairy products in the early stages of breastfeeding is not encouraged. It can affect the full development of your baby.  So, you should avoid downing milk or any other dairy products.

The Empowered Minister Pt Two

A Promise For You From Bible Promises: [19/06/2017]

Topic: The Empowered Minister Pt Two

Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee. Psalms 66:3. Read: 1 Kings 18:30-39

It is the greatness of God’s power that brings the devil to bow, destroys his evil works in the lives of His children. When you cry over that challenge in your life when you are supposed to invoke the power of God against the evil spirit behind it, you will linger in that situation and the devil will turn you to a laughing stock. Through the greatness of God, His enemies shall flee because he respects power from the Almighty God. Enough of that demonic harassment in your life and family! Enough of that Satanic oppression, frustration and confusion! Stop him now before he stops you! Bring him to his knees now before you begin to beg him for mercy that he doesn’t have to give anyone.

The Bible says in Psalm 110:3, “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power”. There is so much unwillingness in the body of Christ not because there is no power, but because we refused to engage it. In the battle on Mount Carmel, the people were so unwilling to respond to Elijah when he asked them, if God is God follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. But the Bible says, “And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God”. 1 Ki 18:39.

David Abioye's Daily Devotional June 19, 2017 – The Place of Planning (Part 3)

Topic: The Place of Planning (Part 3) [Monday June 19, 2017]

GET FACTS!

Facts are the raw materials for planning. To be a good planner you must be well informed, get the relevant facts for what you want to do. The strength of your plan is a function of the facts available to you. You can either get facts from above by divine insight or through observation. Take note of what you see around you and take counsel from others when necessary, whether they are your superiors, assistants or colleagues. Look out for people with results; People who are doers of what they preach and read their books, listen to their tapes or contact them physically.

THINK!

After you have gathered relevant facts, you have to process it through thinking. Knowledge is utilized through thinking. If you gather information without thinking, it cannot not profit you. It is through thinking that you articulate facts and information to your personal life. Wisdom doesn’t jump on people, it is born via the process of thinking. God only gives you the inspiration, which is the raw material. You have to process it in your mind through thinking till you get out the relevant facts that you need to plan your life the way you ought to and get the results that you desire.

Meditate on these: Joshua 1:8, Isaiah 1:18a

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional June 19 2017 – Choose to Surrender

Topic: Choose to Surrender [Monday June 19, 2017]

For those whom He foreknew . . . He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of his Son . . . — Romans 8:29

According to the verse for today, one of God’s goals in our lives is to make us become like Jesus. He wants us to continue to become more like Jesus in our thoughts, in our words, in the way we treat other people, in our personal lives, and in our actions. Becoming like Jesus does not happen overnight; it’s a process we have to choose to embrace.

Romans 12:1 says I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication… This means we have to make a deliberate decision to give ourselves to God. God has given us a free will, and the only way we will ever belong to Him completely is to give ourselves freely to Him. He will never force us to love Him or serve Him. He will speak to us, lead us, guide us, and prompt us, but He will always leave the decision to surrender up to us.

God created human beings, not robots, and He will not try to program us to behave a certain way because He has given us the freedom to make our own choices—and He wants us to choose Him. He wants us to willingly put our lives before Him every day and say, “God, Your will be done, not mine.” That short, simple prayer is extremely powerful when we really mean it, and it represents the kind of full surrender God requires.

If God has been speaking to you or dealing with you about anything, I encourage you not to put off surrendering it any longer. Choose to obey His voice and surrender today. Ask Him to be your Strength and remember that through Him you can do all things.

Mother of Nations! (3) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Author: Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Mother of Nations! (3)

Dear Reader,

I welcome you again this week to a most exciting teaching time. I started this topic by laying the foundation from the Word of God that fruitfulness is God’s will for you. I said that God has designed your marriage for fruitfulness which should be natural to man because God has declared it to be so.

Also, I have shed light on the channel through which this blessing of fruitfulness can be realized. Faith is still a potent force.

Today, I shall be showing you what to do when you are putting your faith to work – Change Your Countenance.

Hannah was a woman of many sorrows in the Bible days. She was barren and her darling husband took another wife. The new wife was fruitful; she did not stop at that, but she went ahead to afflict Hannah. Now there was a certain man… And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children… And her adversary also provoked her sore… therefore she wept, and did not eat (1 Samuel 1:1-7).

May be your story is like that of Hannah, I have a good news for you. God of Shiloh will make you fruitful. But see the step that Hannah took to defeat her adversary:  And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore… Eli thought she had been drunken… And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit… So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad… and the Lord remembered her… she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the Lord.

Hannah the sorrowful became Hannah the joyful. She became praiseful and her womb began to yield her increase. The Word of God says: Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him (Psalms 67:5-7).

Stop murmuring, God is not against you. Stop complaining; He is not the cause of your trouble. Stop paying attention to distractions; look unto your God. When you look up to the sun, you don’t see the shadows. Look unto the Sun of Righteousness, and let your healing and deliverance from the bondage of barrenness come speedily.

When you wake up in the morning, let joy fill your heart and soul. Sing His praise and thank Him for the fulfillment of His promises. Thank Him for His Word that can never fail in your life. Thank Him and thank Him again. As you keep rejoicing in Him, everything that the devil has stolen is being replaced, and sooner than you even think, you will carry your baby. God did not give Hannah only one child as she requested, but many more children followed. This shall be your portion.

Serve God with Gladness

This is a covenant between God and you. When you fulfill your own part of the agreement, you are automatically free to enjoy its benefits. As you serve God, you can never remain barren. The Word of God says: And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee (Exodus 23:25). Check the Scriptures. No one who served God and was initially called barren remained so for life. God always intervened.

Remember Zechariah (Luke1:5-17). He was in the service of God, when his captivity of barrenness turned. Even though, he and his wife had passed the normal child-bearing age, the covenant of God – via service – will never be broken. As you wait on God for your own child, serve Him with your time, means and your life.

Fruitfulness is an inheritance that you have, if you are a child of God. Being born again is the gate-way to fruitfulness. If you are yet to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, you can do so now. By confessing your sin and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you would want to give your life to Christ, you can say this prayer of faith: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

If you prayed this simple prayer, congratulations, you are now a child of God! He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
