Lecrae Becomes First Rapper to Win Best Gospel Artist BET Award

Lecrae (Photo: Harvest Ministries)

Christian Post Report – Christian rapper Lecrae performs at Harvest America in Philadelphia, Sept. 28, 2013.

Outspoken Christian Lecrae made history on Sunday when he became the first rapper to win the Best Gospel Artist Award category at the 2015 BET Awards show.

And the rapper posted a brief message on Facebook Tuesday expressing thanks for the win.

“Always grateful. Engaging the soul thru Music. #SoulMusic,” he noted.

Lecrae beat out fellow Christian artists Mali Music, Erica Campbell, Deitrick Haddon, Fred Hammond and Michelle Williams for his first BET Award win. His last nomination for the category was in 2013 and he lost to Mary Mary.

Lecrae has had a pretty successful year at award shows so far. He took home the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song in February, Rap/Hip-Hop CD of the Year at the Stellar Awards and Top Christian Album at the Billboard Music Awards.

In his Grammy acceptance speech, the rapper publicly thanked God.

“Love and respect to everybody out here because this is a celebration of gifts. And there’s so many people out here who are gifted, but obviously you can’t celebrate gifts without celebrating the giver of all gifts. So I want to celebrate Jesus for gifting us all with the gift of love and sacrifice,” said Lecrae.

The rapper is also preparing to release his very first book titled Unashamed in 2016 which will reveal details about his life, including struggles with drugs, alcoholism, bouts of depression and a suicide attempt.

The book’s release will precede the launch of Lecrae’s next album.

“As an artist my ambition is to make honest music, and I feel the same way about writing this book,” said Lecrae in a press release announcing the book. “I want to be honest about where I’ve come from and what I’ve learned along the way. I want to influence culture, to help catalyze and inspire, and help other people find understanding. If they find some inspiration and some clarity for their own lives, as they follow my journey, then I will have succeeded.”

Answers in Genesis Rips ‘A.D. Bible Continues’ Miniseries as ‘Absolutely Dismal’ and Inaccurate

A.D. - The Bible Continues (Photo: Courtesy of Rogers & Cowan)

Christian Post Report – A.D. The Bible Continues episode 10 airs on NBC Sunday, June 7, 2015.

Ken Ham’s Answers in Genesis group, which has reviewed each episode of the “A.D. The Bible Continues” miniseries that aired on NBC, has written in its conclusion that the show’s last episode was “absolutely dismal,” and said the show does not deserve a second season.

“Theologically and historically, the writers of this show have been sloppy at best and calculatingly agenda-driven at the expense of Scripture at worst. Indeed the ‘A.D.’ for this 12th (and final for now) installment stands for ‘Absolutely Dismal,'” AiG’s in-depth review states.

The Creationist organization lists the numerous historical and biblical inaccuracies it found in the last episode, which include big spoilers concerning the plot and characters.

“There are several plot lines deliberately left unresolved and some are even ‘cliffhangers.’ We hope this does not mean that the series will be revived after a brief hiatus. Unfortunately, with this bad of a TV episode, there can be little to look forward to in subsequent shows if there are any,” stated the review, which can be read in its entirety on the AiG website.

The miniseries, a continuation of the popular “The Bible” miniseries, failed to generate the success of its predecessor, and suffered a ratings low in finale, scoring a 0.7 rating among the 18-49 demographic.

The 12-episode series focused on the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus; portrayed the trials of His followers; and culminated with the disciples getting their first Roman convert.

AiG has also heavily criticized the “Son of God” movie made by producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey out of the Bible miniseries and released in 2014, arguing that it failed to talk about sin, repentance and hell.

AiG argued back then that the film is missing the Gospel, and that although the life of Jesus makes a good story, “biblically illiterate viewers will see nothing in the movie to help them understand how Jesus’ death should benefit them.”

Several other Christian leaders have voiced their support for “A.D.,” however. Joel Houston, leader of Hillsong NYC and the church’s worship band Hillsong UNITED, said in May that the series is part of “God’s plan.”

“It’s God’s plan for helping people understand who Jesus is and why to follow Him,” Houston told The Christian Post in an interview.

“There are universal aspects of searching for love, searching for value, searching for security, for freedom — all this stuff in its purest form — that’s what the Gospel [fulfills] and what the church is all about.”

He added that it is “phenomenal” that the story got to run on such a public platform.

“Showing the New Testament — I’ve read those passages of Scripture my whole life, when you play it out on the screen, there are so many parallels to the world we are living in right now,” Houston said.

The Decisions That Lead to Contentment

Christian Post Report – Romans 8:28-39

  • Dr. Charles F. Stanley
    (Photo: In Touch Ministries)
    Dr. Charles F. Stanley (File).

Think about a circumstance in your life you’d change if you could. Are you frustrated? Worried? Angry? To experience the freedom of contentment in the midst of it—whether a hardship or unfulfilled desire—you must accept the situation as having been allowed by God, even if He didn’t cause it.

In these situations, I often pray, “Lord, I choose to accept this as though it’s coming from You. No matter what I see, I’m choosing to look to You.” Then I can rest in His omnipotence and the knowledge that I’m a child of the living God. Instead of feeling like a helpless, hopeless victim of my circumstance, I know I’m cared for and guided by my sovereign Father through whatever may come.

The second crucial decision is total submission. This doesn’t mean approaching God insincerely and saying, “Well, Lord, I just want to thank You for this! It’s all just so sweet, Jesus.” No, it’s not. Be honest and admit, “This is painful and I don’t like it. But I choose to submit to You because You are trustworthy and loving. I’m willing to persevere until You accomplish in me whatever You want. I choose to draw from Your strength for everything I need.” My friend, if you make this decision and follow through, your fears will lose their power.

Either you believe Romans 8:28 or you don’t. And if you do, you can entrust yourself to the Lord, knowing that He has your best interest at heart, will take care of you, and won’t ever leave your side. When you embrace these truths, you’ll have no reason to be anxious.

Hindu Radicals Threaten to ‘Burn’ Indian Pastor Alive, Wipe Congregation From Town Following Church Attack

India (Photo: Reuters/Danish Siddiqui)

Christian Post Report – A protester holds a placard during a rally by hundreds of Christians against recent attacks on churches nationwide, in Mumbai, February 9, 2015. Five churches in the Indian capital New Delhi have reported incidents of arson, vandalism and burglary. The latest was reported last week when an individual stole ceremonial items.

Following a mid-June attack on a Christian church in the Indian town of Attingal in Kerala state, Hindu radicals have threatened to wipe out a Christian congregation and burn the church’s pastor if they continue to worship and pray in there.

According to International Christian Concern, a U.S.-based Christian persecution monitoring organization, a mob of 200 angry Hindus surrounded the Reaching the World with Love Ministries Church in Attingal on June 14, while about 400 congregants were in the middle of their Sunday worship service.

As the large mob shouted loud Hindu chants, including “Bharat Mathaki” [Hail Mother India], the congregation’s pastor, known by the name Shiju, told ICC that 30 Hindus broke into the worship hall, charged at him while he was preaching and began beating him down and caused him internal injuries.

“I was literally terrified. I did not know what was going on, as a mob of 30 people advanced toward me while I was preaching the message,” Shiju explained. “They hit me in the face and then kicked me all over the body. They first targeted me and then the congregation. I had to flee and ran away from the church, as I could make out that I was their prime target.”

The attacks and threats on churches and Christians, like the altercation in Attingal, have become increasingly common throughout India since the election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May of 2014, ICC’s Regional Manager for South Asia, William Stark, told The Christian Post.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first year in power has marked a very difficult year for Christians in India,” Stark wrote in an email. “The anti-Christian and anti-minority activities of radical Hindu nationalist groups across India has seen a dramatic escalation.”

Five churches in the Indian capital New Delhi have reported incidents of arson, vandalism and burglary. The latest was reported last week when an individual stole ceremonial items.

Stark added that although it is uncertain whether the election of Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance has encouraged the increase in Hindu persecution of Christians, radical Hindus have benefited from little to no government punishment for their actions.

“The culture of impunity these radicals enjoy under the current government has only encouraged more intolerance and violence,” Stark asserted. “To put things in perspective, it took nine months and two public admonishments from President Obama to get Prime Minister Modi to even speak out on the issue of growing religious intolerance in his country.”

An ICC report states that after turning their attention away from pastor Shiju, the Hindus then attacked members of the congregation.

One 40-year-old woman named Girija suffered a broken finger, as one Hindu tried to bash her head in with his motorcycle helmet. Fortunately, she was able to escape without suffering any other major injuries.

Although the congregants attempted to flee from the violence, there was still a large crowd of Hindu radicals waiting for them outside the church. One of the church members was able to escape and went to the nearby police station to report the attack. However, it took over 30 minutes for the police department to respond.

After the congregants fled from the building, radicals desecrated the church by destroying the pulpit, technical equipment and a table displaying communion elements for worship.

In the wake of the attack, the Christians in the town organized a protest to condemn the attack, which was attended by over 500 the area’s Christians and some local legislatures in a show of solidarity for the suffering ministry.

Amid the the Christians’ protest, a group called the Hindu United Front staged a counterprotest where they threatenethe church with “dire consequences” if they dared meet again for worship, according to an eyewitness.

“The Hindu radicals are gathering almost every day since the attack in Attingal took place. The slogans on the placards that read ‘wiping Christians away from the town’ was a huge threat to the Christians of the area,” the witness explained. “The Hindu radicals vowed to burn pastor Shiju if he continued the church in Attingal.”

With Kerala state having a 40 percent Christian population, the fact that Hindu-incited persecution is rising in places with such large religious minority populations is alarming, Stark contended.

“Under previous governments, most anti-Christian violence happened in India’s rural areas. Now, we are seeing more incidents spread to India’s major cities, even the capital New Delhi,” Stark told CP.

“Over the past year, we have noticed most attacks on Christians have taken place in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. That is not to say that persecution is limited to these states, as this most recent attack on a church in Kerala shows. Unfortunately, it looks like Christian persecution in India is spreading. Even to places where Christians represent a significant portion of the population, such as Kerala.”

In recent months, suspected Hindu activists have raped two Catholic nuns — one being 71 years old. The most recent occurred on June 21 in the town of Raipur, in what Christian community leaders have labeled an on-going “anti-Christian hate campaign.”

Video Shows Man Being Delivered From ‘Homosexual Demon’ That Refused to Release Him at T.B. Joshua’s Church

Tedus, Homosexual Demon (Photo: Screen Grab via YouTube)

Christian Post Report – Tedus being delivered from a “homosexual demon.”

A young Nigerian businessman who reportedly got possessed by a “homosexual demon” after going swimming with a group of men in Nairobi, Kenya, is seen on video being delivered from the “evil spirit” in a powerful swoop at The Synagogue Church of All Nations led by popular African preacher, T.B. Joshua.

The video, which was posted to YouTube in May, shows the young man, identified as Tedus, being confronted by a preacher called Wise Man Christopher who allegedly forced the demon to manifest itself.

“You cannot hide,” Christopher said in what was understood to be a conversation with the demon living inside the man.

“He belongs to me. He is mine and you know it,” the demon replied during the exorcism which took place in January 2014.

When Christopher asked who he was to Tedus, the demon replied that “he is my friend” and noted that there were many demons inside the young man’s body before revealing: “I made him gay. I made him love men instead of loving women.”

Christopher eventually commanded the demon to leave the man in the video and he fell to the floor. When he got up he could not recall what was said to the preacher.

He later revealed that the night after he went swimming with a group of men he met on the Kenya trip he had a strange dream where he was swimming in a pool filled with naked men. When he woke up the next morning he was a different man.

A summary of the 21-minute video notes that Tedus, who worked as a translator at a popular church in Cameroon, developed “an unusual affection for men” when he awoke from the dream.

He also “inexplicably” broke up with his fiancée and began feeding his lust for men by “downloading gay pornography on the Internet.

“Tedus considered being gay as ‘normal,’ not realizing a spirit was behind his sudden change in affection,” noted the description on the video.

Realizing his change, his pastor sent him to Joshua’s church in Nigeria for deliverance.

The report also noted that 15 months later, Tedus remains free of the demon and is now seeking to get married.

“Fifteen months after his deliverance, the story of Tedus has radically changed! All homosexual activitie — both physically and spiritually — have come to a complete end as the affection for men disappeared as quickly as it came,” said the report from the church.

“To cap off the remarkable transformation, Tedus did not come to The SCOAN alone! Accompanied by a young lady he introduced as Jessy, the beaming young man told the congregation that this was the lady he planned to marry, adding that he had come to seek God’s opinion before going ahead with nuptials,” the report continued.

“His [Tedus’] advice was simple. ‘If you are living such a life, you must understand that it’s not normal. There is a spirit behind such acts. Deliverance is the answer!'” the church added in the report.

Ex-Gay Gospel Singer Donnie McClurkin Under Fire After Speaking Out Against Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

Donnie McClurkin (Photo: BET Networks)

Christian Post Report – Donnie McClurkin is an award winning singer, pastor and “Sunday Best” judge.

Donnie McClurkin, the pastor and gospel music singer who said God delivered him from “the curse” of homosexuality is now under fire from critics after speaking out against last Friday’s Supreme Court ruling which made same-sex marriage legal nationwide.

McClurkin, 55, received some harsh criticism after he shared his interpretation of the Bible’s position on homosexuality on Facebook last Friday.

“We’ve just received the answer from man’s Supreme Court….we already received the answer from GOD,” the pastor of Perfecting Faith Church in New York wrote. “With NO REGARD to what the Supreme Court of MAN decrees…no matter what MY past was or feelings & struggles …GOD has set the only standard for marriage to be between man and woman…in biology, in physiology, in history, biblically & scripturally and that..I will NEVER speak against!”

Although some critics decided to shed light on McClurkin’s own homosexual past, the man of God did not shy away from reacting to some of his critics’ messages.

“We don’t have to agree in order to love! State your mind without disrespect …pro or con…. Dialogue without an evil heart and wicked words,” McClurkin responded to critical comments. “WE DON’T HAVE TO AGREE TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER!!!! No animosity to any for the evil posts and comments…love you all…. God bless.”

After one Christian homosexual Facebook user questioned why his sins were scrutinized by Christians more than heterosexual sins, McClurkin insisted his post was not questioning anyone’s relationship with God.

“….I simply said I don’t agree with the verdict of the Supreme Court ….I don’t have to be PERFECT to speak what the Bible says or what I know to be true,” McClurkin responded to his critic. “I don’t know where you’ll be if you die tomorrow and that wasn’t a point in my blog…..I just don’t agree with the verdict and believe the Bible…that’s all.”

At the end of his initial Facebook post, McClurkin spoke about loving all people, including homosexuals. Still, he drove his point home by admitting his own wrongs and addressing the issue in love.

“..WE STAND AGAINST ALL SIN, EVEN IF ITS IN US…AND WE DON’T AGREE WITH OR CONCEDE TO SOCIETY’S CHANGE OF GOD’S PLAN AND INTENTION FOR MAN!
THE SUPREME COURT WAS WRONG GOD AND HIS WORD IS RIGHT,” McClurkin wrote. “I know…I know….I’ve done many things in this regard wrongly….but that only qualifies me to address it! In love.”

This is not the first time McClurkin has received backlash for speaking up about his thoughts concerning homosexuality. In 2013, he was removed from the lineup of a Washington, D.C. concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington after sharing his personal testimony of being delivered from homosexuality.

The pastor spoke about the matter on “The Tom Joyner Morning Show,” where he opened up about being molested multiple times as a child before engaging in a homosexual lifestyle. Because of his own history, McClurkin insisted he is not homophobic.

“You can’t call me a homophobic if I’ve been a homosexual,” he said on the radio show. “That’s quite a stretch.”

Christian Post Report – “Duck Dynasty” star John Luke Robertson married his fiancee, Mary Kate McEacharn, in a country style wedding on June 27, 2015.

“Duck Dynasty” star John Luke Robertson married his fiancée, Mary Kate McEacharn, in a country style wedding on Saturday.

“I had an amazing time!” Robertson told Us Magazine in a statement, with his new bride adding : “It was one of the best days of my life! It was everything I hoped it would be and more.”

The newlyweds, both 19, tied the knot before a group of 800 family members and friends in an outdoor ceremony at the Robertson family farm in West Monroe, Louisiana. His father, Willie Robertson, officiated the wedding and McEacharn thanked God after her big day while sharing an intimate photo on social networking site Instagram.

“Well….WE GOT MARRIED! Thank you to everyone for the love and support and thank you to God for the absolutely perfect weather. Love my new husband and love being Mrs. Mary Kate Robertson. Let the adventure begin,” she wrote alongside a photo of her and her new husband.

A local band played various hit songs during the fun-filled reception, including an acoustic version of The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” and “Amazing Grace.” Guests were treated to a mouthwatering menu that included grilled chicken skewers with vegetables, barbecued shrimp, and brisket sliders.

“[Mary Kate] wanted it real fun, real casual, and she wanted flowers to be a big central point of it all,” said wedding planner Bethany Sigrest.”

The couple met and became friends at a Christian summer camp in 2010 before they began dating three years later in 2013.

“I had tried to date her before, and she kept turning me down! I just kept at it and she finally said yes!” said Luke previously. “I just knew [she was the one].”

Luke proposed to Kate during his 19th birthday celebration last year. At the time, he likened their bond to that of his reality star parents, Willie and Korie Robertson who have been married more than two decades.

“I am so excited to marry my best friend. I know my parents married young as well, and they have always been examples of what ‘could be’ to me,” he said in a statement to E! News. “Fast-forward 22 years and they are more in love than ever, and I hope Mary Kate and I are the same way in the years to come. God has truly blessed us.”

Pope Francis Likens Recent Persecution of Christians to Killing of Believers in First Century

Pope Francis (Photo: Reuters/Tony Gentile)

Christian Post Report – Pope Francis blesses the missal as he leads a mass on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian mass killings, in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican April 12, 2015. Pope Francis on Sunday commemorated the 100th anniversary of the massacre of as many as 1.5 million Armenians as “the first genocide of the 20th century,” words that could draw an angry reaction from Turkey.

Pope Francis compared the recent killing of Christians by terrorist groups such as ISIS to the persecution of the Christian church in the first century while celebrating the feast of the apostles Peter and Paul on Monday.

In his homily, Francis used a passage from the book of Acts to illustrate how the early Church was “besieged by persecution.”

He said first century Christians were “harshly persecuted by Herod who ‘laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the Church … proceeded to arrest Peter also … and when he had seized him he put him in prison.”

Francis followed those statements by comparing what is found in Scripture to the brutalities many Christians around the world face today. He said that “these atrocious inhuman and incomprehensible persecutions,” are “still present in many parts of the world today, often under the silent gaze of all.”

The Pope also paid homage “to the courage of the Apostles and that of the first Christian community,” and urged modern believers to follow their example.

“How many forces in the course of history have tried, and still do, to destroy the Church, from without as well as within, but they themselves are destroyed and the Church remains alive and fruitful,” said Francis.

He also reminded Christians of their biblical mandate to proclaim Christ to the world while suffering through various trials or enjoying times of peace and prosperity.

“A church or a Christian who does not give witness is sterile; like a dead person who thinks they are alive; like a dried up tree that produces no fruit an empty well that offers no water,” said Francis.

He also stressed prayer as the church’s strongest source of strength.

“Prayer is the encounter with God, with God who never lets us down; with God who is faithful to His word; with God who does not abandon His children,” continued Francis.

Pope Francis condemned terrorist groups such as ISIS and Boko Haram who are killing Christians during a mass at the Vatican in May. He said even though these groups believe they are serving God with their actions, they do not truly know him.

He referenced John 16: 2-3 where Jesus says: “The hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or Me.”

The Pontiff was addressing the killing of 21 Coptic Christians at the hands of ISIS militants in Libya that took place earlier this year.

“I called to mind his faithful, who were slaughtered on the beach because they are Christians. Because of the strength given them by the Holy Spirit, they were not scandalized,” said Francis. “They died with the name of Jesus on their lips. This is the power of the Spirit. Witness. Martyrdom is the supreme witness.”

NeNe Leakes Announces ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ Departure; ‘I’ve Decided to Step Out on Faith and Not Fear’

Real Housewives of Atlanta Bravotv/ The Real Housewives of Atlanta

Christian Post Report – Nene Leakes walks out on the ladies on The Real Housewives of Atlanta

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes announced on Monday that she is leaving the show after seven seasons, telling fans that she made the shocking decision with “lots of thoughts and prayer.”

The veteran housewife, who coined a number of funny phrases on the show including the famous “so nasty and so rude,” became a staple on the hit Bravo reality TV show after joining in season one. In a heartfelt Facebook post shared with her 2.5 million followers, Leakes said that she is ready for a new chapter and that “with lots of thoughts and prayer, I’ve decided to step out on faith and not fear.”

“This is so hard for me to type! I cry as I do so! After seven seasons, I am so grateful for all the love and laughs! I can confirm that I have decided not to return to RHOA for the eighth season,” she began.

“Thank you everyone that has watched and supported me over the years on this amazing platform! … This has been such a big part of my life but I am excited for new beginnings that I will share with you soon. With lots of thoughts and prayer, I’ve decided to step out on faith and not fear.”

Leakes, 48, who infamously remarried her longtime husband Gregg Leakes on her Bravo TV spinoff series in 2013, said that she consulted him about her decision to leave the “Real Housewives.”

“This was definitely a hard decision for me,” she told People.com. “Me and my husband [Gregg Leakes] have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time. This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things.”

Some of her upcoming projects include hosting a new primetime television show, which she begins filming this week. She also recently announced a new business venture with reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

“All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny and tell all of those one liners that I always have said on Housewives,” she noted.

The outspoken Bravo TV star who often clashed with her costars on the show made sure to note “I won’t miss the negativity” but added, “I’m not saying I’m gone forever.”

While Leakes’ costars are yet to publicly react to news of her departure, her longtime nemesis Kenya Moore made sure to take one final jab. When asked by a fan last night whether she is glad that Leakes is leaving, Moore responded with three painted nails emojis – suggesting that she is unbothered.
