The Brooklyn Nets’ race for the playoff spot continues as they host the Washington Wizards at Barclays Center in the NBA. Tip-off is on April 10, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Brooklyn is currently eighth in the East while trying to hold off the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat with only a handful of games remaining. They have also been impressive in their last 10 games, winning seven of them.

Unfortunately, their last game was a 114-111 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Against the East’s top team, the Nets tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but fell short after being behind for the entire game. Brook Lopez was dominant for the Nets with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Joe Johnson shot 60 percent from the field to contribute 21 points. Brooklyn’s shooting woes from beyond the arc was part of the reason they lost as they only converted 27 percent of their attempts from the three point line.

On the other hand, the Wizards are fifth in the league and are on a four-game winning streak. They were a disappointing 1-5 in their last six games prior to the four-game run, but have seemed to turn things around as they want to close out the regular season on a positive note.

Their most impressive performance in the winning streak was the 92-83 win over the tough Memphis Grizzlies. Washington got out to an early lead in the first quarter and it kept them afloat as Bradley Beal led the team with 20 points. John Wall added 18 for the win while going for 14 assists to go along with his six rebounds.

The Eastern Conference rivals have met three times so far this season, and the Wizards have the upper hand as they have won the last two meetings.

Washington beat Brooklyn the last time they were at Barclays, winning 99-90 behind six players scoring in double figures led by Nene with 20.

In their final home game for the regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins host the New York Islanders at Consol Energy Center. The match is on April 10, 2015 at 7 p.m. ET.

Metropolitan Division rivals, the Islanders and Penguins are separated by two points as the season winds down.

Currently, the Islanders hold the final qualifying spot in the playoffs while the Penguins are in the Wild Card slot of the Eastern Conference.

Both teams have two matches remaining and, depending on the outcome of this match, they may end up switching positions or even see themselves drop out of the playoff picture completely.

It has been a rough time for the Penguins as they have only won two of their last eight matches – and their current stretch is being winless in their last four. Their most recent performance was a 4-3 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators where they squandered an early 3-0 lead to allow the hosts to take a point that could have helped them in their standing.

Pittsburgh is also going through many different injuries in their playoff bid as four players are listed as day-to-day. Christian Ehrhoff and Kris Letang have been nursing problems since March, while Steve Downie and Derrick Pouliot picked up knocks earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Islanders can clinch a playoff spot if they beat Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, their performances lately have been poor and they have only won two of their last seven matches. They lost 5-4 to the Philadelphia Flyers in their last game as their comeback bid fell short. They were down 4-1 in the third period before three goals within 11 minutes leveled the score. With only three seconds left, New York allowed a goal to see them lose the game.

After their match against Pittsburgh, the Islanders close out the regular season with a home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

After three years of dating, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are reportedly on a break.

Rumors of a breakup started circulating when Stone attended numerous awards shows this year without her boyfriend. Garfield was notably absent from the Golden Globes and the Oscars, where Stone was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

A source from People said that the couple has decided to take a break since both of them are currently busy with work.

“He’s thrown himself in the project to the detriment of all else,” said the source of Garfield, who is currently shooting Martin Scorsese’s new film, “Silence,” on location in Taiwan. “But it’s too early to say the relationship is over.”

An insider from Us Weekly says that Garfield is “very in his character” as he plays a Jesuit priest in the film.

“He’s lost weight, and he’s in a dark place mentally for his performance and he’s not boyfriend material right now,” the source said.

“Emma understands his work anxieties—it’s why she originally pulled out of ‘Cabaret’ last year and only did it this year—but they’re taking a break from each other,” a confidante told People magazine.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old actress has been spending time with her brother, Spencer, in LA after wrapping up production on her film “Aloha.” After news of her alleged break with Garfield surfaced this week, Stone was spotted with her brother and their friends at Disneyland where the actress was seen enjoying the rides and having a margarita at California Adventure.

Though they’ve possibly taken a breather from their relationship, there’s a chance that they may reconcile when Garfield finishes filming in May.

“It’s one of those situations where only Andrew and Emma quite know if they’ll pick up where they left off or they’re separated,” said an insider.

The couple was last photographed together in New York City’s West Village on Jan. 7.

After a false alarm last week, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard finally got to meet their baby this week as Jill gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Monday, April 6. Hours after their baby entered the world, the Duggars took to Facebook to post a video to announce that “Israel David Dillard has made his arrival.”

“He was born at 11:49pm on April 6, 2015. He weighed 9 lbs and 10 ounces and measured 23 inches long. We think he’s adorable! Mom and baby are both doing wonderful,” the post was captioned.

In the video, Jill is seen relaxing on a hospital bed, and Derick has a huge smile on his face as he says, “We’re so excited to announce the birth of our son, Israel David Dillard.”

Jill then tells the camera, “Not everything went as expected. So we were reminded of the verse that the Bible talks about when ‘Man plans his way but the Lord directs his steps.'”

Jill left out the exact details of how their plans changed, but it is speculated that it might have to do with her birth plan. The Dillard’s original birth plan was supposed to be a home birth, but Jill, who was 13 days past her due date, had to deliver her son in the hospital.

The 23-year-old also tells People that Israel is the longest baby the hospital has delivered this year. The magazine reports that last year, there was only one baby that was as long as Israel.

Jill said that because of the baby’s large size, she had to enlist some of the Duggar clan to run out and get different baby clothes, as all the clothes that she and Derick bought was too small for Israel.

Ever since they got married, Kaley Cuoco- Sweeting and her husband, Ryan Sweeting have taken pains to dispel rumors that they are about to get a divorce. Recently, “The Big Bang Theory” star took to social media to defend her marriage once again and to assure fans that everything is okay between the two of them.

On Sunday, the actress took to Instagram to post a picture of her husband playing tennis. She captioned the shot, “Today is Easter. It’s about love, gratitude and rejoicing in all that we have — so that’s what I’m going to do.”

“I have never been more proud of anyone on this planet — this guy is fighting back from a whirlwind of injuries and not to mention constant ‘conversation’ regarding our marriage and basically any daily decision we decide to make,” she added.

Cuoco-Sweeting then assured her followers that their marriage is solid and challenged those who are saying negative things about them, saying that they are only making their relationship stronger.

“All of you who take it upon yourselves to trash our marriage, daily workings of our relationship and everything in between, go ahead and keep doing it, cause it only makes us stronger,” she continued. “You know my name, not my story.”

The pair got engaged after only three months of dating and got married on New Year’s Eve 2013. The actress said that she never had any reservations about marrying the tennis player because “from day one, I just knew immediately and it’s been magic.”

In a recent Instagram post, Cuoco-Sweeting quashed pregnancy and divorce rumors as she wrote, “We are totally getting divorced, can’t you tell!!?! 4 weeks apart and finally reunited—I missed this guy more than anything. #Rumors #NotPregnant #TotallyMarried.”

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, through their Pearl Street Films outfit, have received a pilot order from cable network Syfy for their new science fiction action series called “Incorporated.” This is the pair’s second foray into cable TV. The first was the series “The Middle Man” on Fox, which was put on hold until Affleck finished his “Batman” commitments. Most of the duo’s previous projects were feature films.

According to the The Hollywood Reporter, the story of the series is centered on Ben Larson, a company executive who works for a corporation some time in the future when big cormpanies have control over almost everything.

Larson is “forced to change his identity in order to infiltrate a cut-throat corporate world to save the woman he loves.” He will end up “taking on the entire system with deadly consequences.”

Damon and Affleck will executive produce with Pearl Street Films President Jennifer Todd. Ted Humphrey of “The Good Wife” has been named the showrunner for CBSTVS, while siblings David and Alex Pastor will write the script for the pilot and direct as well.

Both actors issued a statement describing what viewers can expect from the new series.

“Viewers will delve into the intricacies of our future, one that we are constantly warned of, but as a society have not yet explored. We believe this is an important and timely story to tell and can think of no one better to guide us into this than David, Alex and Ted.”

Syfy’s President Dave Howe is excited about the project.

“‘Incorporated’ is an electrifying example of what science fiction does best: holding a mirror to present realities and projecting forward to a recognizable future in which we face the impact and consequences of our actions,” he explained.

The series premiere date is currently unknown.

Christian Post Report – The Detroit Lions now have a big need at DT, what will they do in free agency to fix that problem

The Detroit Lions are not very good when it comes to the NFL draft. Over a 10-year period ESPN has ranked them the worst at drafting, and it wasn’t even close.

In a report on the 2002 through 2012 drafts, ESPN looked at what a players did over their first four years in the draft (using a metric from pro football reference and comparing those players with players drafted in the same position in the draft) and then ranked the 32 NFL teams on how they faired. Detroit was the only team with a negative rating at -6.2 with the Oakland Raiders coming in second worst with a rating of 2.

The period is question should not surprise anyone. It was during this period that the Lions were so bad at drafting that they assembled the only NFL roster to ever go 0-16 in 2008. It was during the season they fired their General Manager Matt Millen. However, after promising a exhaustive search they simply hired his assistant. He has not faired well in the draft either.

While the Lions have whiffed on a number of high round draft picks, the two worst of the Millen era were arguably WR Charles Rogers (the second overall pick in 2003) and WR Mike Williams (the tenth overall pick in 2005). The worst picks of the Mayhew regime seem to be WR Titus Young (44th overall pick of the 2011 draft) who recently plead guilty to felony charges, is out of the league and headed to prison. Mayhew traded back into the first round to take RB Jahvid Best with the 30th overall pick in the 2010 draft. Best had a history of concussions in College and five years later is out of football.

It should surprise no one that along with the Lions, and the Raiders, the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and St. Louis Rams were among the worst teams at drafting during this period. All of these franchises share the common trait of constant disappointment on the field.

Christian Post Report – The CFL has made major rule changes for the 2015 season

The Canadian Football League has approved major rule changes for the 2015 season. Most of the new rules deal with the point after conversion with an emphasis on making that play less automatic and create a more exciting convert attempt for the fans.

The CFL’s President and Chief Operating Office Matt Copeland made the following statements as reported by CFL.ca: “The Board endorsed the view that this is a great time for our league to innovate. We’re looking forward to putting in place changes that have the potential to improve an already great game.”

The one point kick which was being snapped at the 12 yard line will now be moved back to the 32 yard line. In 2014 99.4 percent of the single point kicks were successful, which makes for boring play. In field goals attempted from the 31-33 yard line, the percentage dropped to 81 percent, which makes a one point convert less of an automatic play.

In another rule the CFL moved the two point convert from the five yard line to the three. This was done in an attempt to get more coaches to take the risk of the two point play and create more exciting plays on the field. In 2014 only 30 percent of two-point conversions were successful, but the league as a whole only attempted 23 of them.

Beyond making for exciting single play in a game, the new rules could bring about a interesting scoring dynamic. If more scores are of six and eight points, then late game strategy could wind up being radically different. If a kicker struggles from 32 yards more CFL coaches may opt for the two-point try to make up for misses. Either way this is a growing trend in football and the NFL will likely adopt similar rules at the league meeting in May.

Christian Post Report – Joe Nathan continues to struggle, what will the Detroit Tigers do?

The Detroit Tigers’ bullpen got a little thinner yesterday. On the same day that the team placed starter Justin Verlander on the disabled list and recalled Kyle Lobstein from Triple A Toledo to take his place, the team also announced the closer Joe Nathan would make a trip to the 15-day disabled list as well. Blaine Hardy has been brought up to fill a spot in the bullpen. Joakim Soria has been named the interim closer, but the team expects Nathan to get healthy and return to that role.

The bullpen is the weakest part of the Tigers 2015 roster. This move leaves the Tigers without a solid 8th inning guy, which is compounded by the fact that they do not have a designated 7th inning guy. However, while some view that as a negative, it gives Manager Brad Ausmus an opportunity to run his bullpen more like famed Tigers skipper Sparky Anderson. Ausmus has a week or so to use guys in multiple roles and to see exactly what he has in the pen and who can be counted on down the road.

Even though Nathan earned his first save of the year on Opening Day, it seems he has been battling arm soreness for a bit now.

“From what he said and from how his face looked, you could tell it was bothering him quite a bit,” Ausmus said. “From the time I’ve known him, he’s never said I can’t throw, and today, in not so many words, he said, ‘I probably shouldn’t throw today,’ which tells me it was really bothering him.”

Recalling Hardy now gives the Tigers three left-handed relievers which is kind of rare. Tom Gorzelanny and Ian Krol are the other two, and Gorzelanny is a veteran brought in over the off season while Krol is the last piece left over from the Doug Fister trade. That seems to indicate Ausmus wants options in his pen for the time being.

Christian Post Report – The Arizona Diamondbacks just signed a big time local TV deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks were 64-98 in 2014 after finishing with a 81-81 record the two season prior. They hired Tony La Russa to be their Chief Baseball Officer and have now entered a rebuilding project. Manager Kirk Gibson and his staff were replaced, and now LaRussa and new General Manager Dave Stewart have gone about rebuilding their roster. They feel like they are close to contending, and have been very active this off season.

Chip Hale is the new manager, and he came over from the Oakland Athletics. This is his first MLB managerial job. He faces an interesting challenge in Arizona. The Diamondbacks were a last-place club but his front office expects the team to finish with a winning record and possible even contend for the division sooner rather than later.

The Diamondbacks have a plan and the went about their off season work shedding themselves of contracts that felt were not making the team better on the field. They took those saving and reinvested them in talent. Most notable the team signed Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas to a six year $68.5 million deal. However, the is an opt out clause in the deal after year four. Many expected the 24-year-old to fetch a $100 million deal so the Diamondbacks might have gotten him for a bargain.

The Diamondbacks also signed a Cuban pitcher right handed Yoan Lopez to a deal with a $8.25 million signing bonus. That outlay put the D’Backs over the allotted pool space given each MLB team to sign international players and they now not be allowed to sign an international player for more than $300,000 for the next two signing periods. That is a big risk but all indications are Lopez has MLB skills. Due to MLB rules he had to sign a minor league deal and after being with the team during Spring Training will begin his development in America in the low minors.
