The San Diego Padres Pull Off Another Blockbuster Trade

San Diego Padres MLB/San Diego Padres

Christian Post Report – The San Diego Padres remain active on the trade market looking to improve themselves on the field

The San Diego Padres have been very active during the offseason over turning their roster and looking for way to get better on the field. That continued as the MLB was getting ready to officially launch the 2015 regular season yesterday when the team pulled off another big trade with the Atlanta Braves. The Padres were the last club this year to submit its 25 man active roster for he regular season and know the reason why has been discovered.

First the details of the trade:

San Diego gets Closer Craig Kimbrel and OF Melvin Upton Jr.

Atlanta gets pitching prospect Matt Wisler, minor league outfielder Jordan Paroubeck, and outfielders Cameron Maybin and Carlos Quentin, along with the 41st pick in the MLB draft to be held this Summer.

This is the side effects of two teams that are over turning their roster and rebuilding. Maybin and Quentin were purchased out of the San Diego outfield after the team traded for Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, and Wil Myers.

Kimbrel was entering the second year of a $42 million our year deal and Melvin Upton Jr. has a little north of $46 million and three years left on his deal. Obviously this was cost cutting move for the Braves as they today designated Quentin for assignment and will look to trade him and whatever amount of his 8million dollar salary they can get another team to pick up.

It is being reported by multiple sources that Quentin was only included in the deal to balance out the money and because the Padres simply had too many outfielders. When healthy Quentin is a above average bat with middle of the lineup skills. However his defense in the outfield is a big minus but he might fit a lot better with an American League club.

Can Ryan Broyles Become an Impact Player for the Detroit Lions?

Ryan Broyles reuters.com

Christian Post Report – The Detroit Lions spent a second round pick on Ryan Broyles in 2012, but injuries have limited his effectiveness ever since

Ryan Broyles for most NFL fans is a forgotten player. A second round draft pick (54th overall) in the 2012 NFL draft that has never made much of an impact. He has lost time due to injuries to both legs. However, in Detroit in a receiver corps that features Calvin Johnson and now Golden Tate, Broyles is one the players on the Lions roster who is most talked about. That may be because of General Manger Martin Mayhew’s Matt Millen like infinity for drafting wide receivers and tight ends that never live up to their draft status.

Now days Broyles is the fifth wide out on a team that dresses four. He has shown some flashes of greatness including a particularly good preseason campaign a year ago. He led the Lions in pre-season catches and then was basically unheard from during the regular season.

Mlive.comn reports that Head Coach Jim Caldwell has been watching tape this off season and they reported the coach saying, “I think he did show obviously some promises, particularly during the preseason,” Caldwell said. “He and Kellen (Moore) hooked up for quite a few. … He made quite a few plays over that time. Hopefully he’ll continue to improve, and find a way to work his way out on the field and do something for us.”

Mlive also reported statements made by Lions Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi.

“Listen, when the guy’s been in there, he’s been productive. And we’re excited to see where he is now after a full season of not coming back from an injury. He’s had a full year to be healthy, and we’re excited to see what he does here in the offseason and heading into camp,” he said.

If Broyles can return to the field and stay healthy he gives the Lions offense another weapon that can help stretch defense. If he cannot it is another story of a Mayhew high round draft pick that flamed well before his time.

The Los Angeles Angels Have Created a Public Relations Mess With Josh Hamilton Statement

Los Angeles Angels MLB, Los Angeles Angels

Christian Post Report – The Los Angeles Angels have created a PR nightmare with recent comments about Josh Hamilton

The Los Angeles Angels have made a complete mess of the Josh Hamilton situation. They now seem very callous in their treatment of one of their star players and rather obviously would have preferred he be suspended and they not be on the hook for his 2015 salary. That is an OK idea to have privately but creates large problems when the team than has to deal with its fans, the player himself, and the other 24 men on the roster.

CJ Wilson had some comments about the ongoing saga of Hamilton that were reported on NBC’s Hardball talk via the Orange County Register. In those comments Wilson said that the team’s statement about his teammate were, “kind of disheartening.” Wilson went on to say, “The statement had multiple phases. I’m just going to focus on the last part of it, which was, ‘We are focused on Josh and his family.’ That’s the part that I agree with.”

Wilson, Hector Santiago and Huston Street have all been public supporters of Hamilton.

The curious tone from the Angels front office makes little sense. They may have had private hopes of a suspension that would ease some of their payroll for 2015.

The Angels entered into a the contract with Hamilton knowing the risks. His battle with addiction has been well documented and this is not the first time he has slipped. Knowing that going into the contract that should have been very prepared for the very real likelihood it would happen again.

Gold medallist Gabrielle Douglas of the U.S. waves before receiving her gold medal after the women’s individual all-around gymnastics final in the North Greenwich Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games August 2, 2012.

Christian Post Report – Gabrielle Douglas is aiming to become the first gymnast in close to 50 years to win consecutive Olympic gold medals and plans to let reality television cameras film the process for Oxygen network.

Douglas, 19, made history at the Olympics when she became the first African-American All-Around Olympic Gold medalist and the first female to win both all-around and team gold medals at the same Olympics in 2012. With new goals in mind, Douglas and her manager mother are gearing up to star in the tentatively titled series, “Douglas Family Gold.”

“Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Douglas stunned the world in 2012 by becoming the first African American in history to win the individual all-around gold medal at the Summer Olympics. Behind her meteoric rise was a supportive family willing to sacrifice everything for years to help her dream,” a release from Oxygen media reads. “Now 19, Gabby is ready to do it all over again in hopes of making it back to the medal podium in 2016. The bi-coastal Douglas family shuttles between California and Ohio to support Gabby’s training regimen while also juggling their own lives.”

It seems Gabby is not the only busy member of her family, according to the show’s synopsis.

“Her brother John is the family’s second Olympic hopeful in track and field, while devoted sisters Arie and Joy are eager to blaze their own paths,” the synopsis states. “‘Momager’ Natalie keeps this tight-knit family in-check, knowing regardless of what happens, ‘Team Douglas’ has already won gold.”

The official air date for the tentatively titled reality television show has yet to be announced. After releasing her first book, Grace, Gold and Glory in 2012, Douglas opened up to The Christian Post about how her faith has contributed to her success.

“It was definitely important for me to praise God because He’s given me this God-given talent to go out there and represent Him and share my faith with everyone,” Douglas previously told CP. “I mean I’m not going to hold it in because He’s blessed me so much throughout my gymnastics career. He’s woken me up every single morning and He’s just been so great to me, so I’m going to go and share it with everyone because it’s a part of me and it’s just who I am.”

Giuliana Rancic Memoir Details How Ex Jerry O’Connell Cheated on Her With A Spice Girl

Giuliana Rancic Reuters/File

Christian Post Report – TV personality Giuliana Rancic arrives at the 57th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Feb. 8, 2015. MARIO ANZUONI/REUTERS.

Giuliana Rancic has just penned her memoir which holds details of how ex-boyfriend Jerry O’Connell cheated on her with a member of the Spice Girls.

Italian-American TV personality and E! co-anchor Giuliana Rancic recently released her memoir, “Going Off Script: How I Survived a Crazy Childhood, Cancer and Clooney’s 32 On-Screen Rejections” where she chronicles a bad breakup with actor Jerry O’Connell after he two-timed her with a Spice Girls member.

The 40-year-old red carpet correspondent and host of “Fashion Police” recalls her humiliating split with the “Stand By Me” alum after a following a year of dating after she learned he had cheated on her with Ginger Spice, who is also known as Geri Halliwell.

After she confronted him about the infidelity, he apologized and told her he didn’t know what happened.

“He had as much emotion as the customer-service representative who tells you your bags missed the flight.” Rancic wrote in her book.

Shortly after the incident, Rancic took O’Connell back for a brief period of time until he started flirting with his now wife, Rebecca Romijn, during a 2004 Maxim’s 100 Hottest Women Party where O’Connell was Rancic’s escort.

He promptly cut off all contact with Rancic, and when she confronted him at his home, he declined to let her in and bid her farewell with the breakup line: “Nope. Sorry, homegirl,” Rancic recalls. “Things change, but you take care, OK?”

O’Connell has not responded to requests for his reaction over Rancic’s retelling of their split in her memoir. He and Rebecca Romijn have been married since July 2007 and share 6-year-old twin daughters.

Despite having gone through the ugly breakup, Rancic has since moved on with entrepreneur and “Apprentice” contestant Bill Rancic, whom she married in September 2007 and shares a 2-year-old son. Rancic is also a breast cancer survivor.

Her tell-all memoir is scheduled to be released on Amazon this week under her publisher, Crown Archetype.

Christian Post Report – Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald

The Duggar family love to celebrate milestones, and Jessa Duggar is no exception as she and her husband Ben Seewald took to social media in honor of their fifth month wedding anniversary. The couple wed on November 1 last year.

The “19 Kids and Counting” star took to Instagram one day after their wedding aired on the TLC reality show, and Jessa shared a photo of herself and her husband on a plane.

She captioned the snap, “Happy 5th ‘monthiversary’ to this handsome husband of mine! Every day with you is the best day of my life!”

It was reported that the couple’s wedding episode was one of the most anticipated episodes of “19 Kids and Counting.” As seen last week on Tuesday, the pair’s unconventional wedding included an ice cream sundae bar instead of the traditional wedding cake, and Jessa opted to wear a pale pink gown instead of a white one for her walk down the aisle.

“You are the love of my life,” said Ben to Jessa in his wedding vows. “You’re my best friend, and I’ve learned so much through your love for me, and today is a beautiful day because I have the privilege of committing my life and all that I am…From the depth of my being I will seek to be open and honest with you. I will forever be there to laugh with you, to life you up and to love you unconditionally through all of our adventures and our life together.”

Of their wedding, Jessa said, “We looked back and thought it was perfect. It couldn’t have gone better. It was everything we wished it would be, and we’re happily married.”

‘Where Hope Grows’ Star Kris Polaha Says Film Could Shatter Stereotypes About Down Syndrome and Save Lives

“Where Hope Grows” is headed to theaters on May 15, 2015.

The star of Roadside Attractions and Godspeed Pictures “Where Hope Grows” Kris Polaha revealed the rewards of appearing in the family-friendly film that revolves around Down syndrome this week.

Christian Post Report – In theaters everywhere on May 15, “Where Hope Grows” follows Polaha as Calvin Campbell, a former baseball star and single parent struggling with alcoholism. Although his life is spinning out of control, Calvin finds a friend in the most unlikely of people – Produce, a young man with Down syndrome. As their friendship blossoms, Calvin’s bitterness and resentment begins to fade as he sees the world through Produce’s eyes.

“There are a few projects in an artist’s life that remind him of why he wanted to be an artist in the first place,” Polaha said. With ‘Where Hope Grows,’ it was whole new experience on a personal level – I was going through a prayerful time [while filming], I was fasting. On a spiritual level, it was a cool moment.”

Adding to the fulfillment of his role in “Where Hope Grows,” Polaha worked closely with co-star David DeSanctis, who has Down syndrome in real life and made his acting debut as Produce in the film.

“Meeting David, getting to work with him, getting to know his family, and knowing someone with Down’s was the most life-changing experience I think I’ve ever had, and that will last longer than the artistic thing,” said Polaha. “This was on a deep human level. I didn’t know anyone with Down’s.”

Despite having an abnormal chromosome, 23-year-old DeSanctis is making his dream of being an actor a reality, and he even memorized each of his lines for “Where Hope Grows” well before rehearsals. Polaha admitted to being previously misinformed about people with Down syndrome, and the stereotype he was familiar with was shattered by DeSanctis, who steals several scenes in the film.

“I always assumed you heard their life span was 20 to 25 years, I heard they were incapable, it was based on everything I heard,” Polaha told CP. “David was the most attentive, best listener, and meeting his family – I asked [David’s father], “If you could wave a magic wand, would you want to have David without the Down’s?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely not, our lives are so much richer with him.'”

The same realization that Polaha had about people with Down syndrome will be available to moviegoers across the country on May 15 with the “Where Hope Grows” premiere – something the actor said could save lives.

“It is interesting, with modern science, you can find out if you’re having a baby with Down’s and make a decision based on viable life,” the actor said. “The film shows that it’s beyond viable. If there was a woman out there who was having a baby with Down’s, it could save a life.”

“Where Hope Grows” has already received support from both the Shriver family-founded Best Buddies and the Special Olympics. Furthermore, Polaha shared the enthusiastic reactions of the film’s audiences, both Christian and secular, thus far.

“It was [writer/director Chris Dowling’s] goal to make a film for Christian audiences as well as for secular, and the way to do that is to make a great movie,” he explained. “We are at the crossroads where I am not sure what to expect at screenings, but the responses are always really positive. People say they thought they were just seeing a movie but it stayed with them for a week.”

Bruce Jenner Interview Gets Air Date, 2-Hour Special Details Revealed

Bruce Jenner Instagram/ khloekardashian

Christian Post Report – Bruce Jenner with Khloe Kardashian

After months of speculation from the media, Bruce Jenner is breaking his silence about his changing appearance on a special interview with Diane Sawyer later this month.

The interview will air as a two-hour special on Friday, April 24 on ABC. The network confirmed this on Monday. According to Hollywood Reporter, Sawyer interviewed Jenner “some time ago,” before his February auto accident on the Pacific Coast Highway in which one woman was killed.

There have been rumors and speculation that the physical transformation that the 65-year-old former Olympian has been undergoing for years is caused by gender reassignment. No other details about the interview have been revealed by ABC, but sources connected to Jenner and the network’s production told TMZ that Jenner will put his male persona to rest for good when he appears on the special.

According to TMZ’s source, Jenner views the show as a “farewell to Bruce.” He will reportedly be presenting himself as a woman publicly for the first time. The source adds that Jenner will not reveal his new name, nor will he dress as a woman on camera.

Jenner will reportedly chronicle his life from age five, where he identified as a woman. The source adds that the Olympian, who did numerous interviews for the special over a period of time, will talk about the difficulties he’s had in life living as a man but not feeling like one. He is also expected to share details about what kind of impact his decision made on his family.

Back in February, Jenner’s mother, Esther, told Radar Online that she supports him “whole-heartedly” and is proud of him.

“Right now I am more proud of him for what he’s allowing himself to do,” said Esther to the website. “I am more proud of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck. He deserves all the respect.”

God’s Blessing

Genesis 12:1-4

  • Dr. Charles F. Stanley

    Dr. Charles F. Stanley (File).

Christian Post Report – “God bless you!” We hear it all the time, don’t we? From the pastor’s benediction in worship to a simple courtesy when someone sneezes, we hear wishes of God’s blessing so often that we don’t even stop to consider what the phrase means.

Let’s break away from habit and discover what it truly means to be blessed by the Lord. In Genesis 12, God’s commission of Abram shows His wonderful promise to make the man into a prospering nation and give him a great and enduring name. More than that, God extends His blessing to those close to Abram and ultimately takes it to a global scale, pledging to bless the entire world by what He’s doing in this one person’s life.

So, when the Lord speaks about blessing someone, it’s a promise to intervene mightily and noticeably in that individual’s life. This could mean a thriving, happy family or, possibly, financial prosperity. Maybe it involves emotional security or spiritual insight. The heavenly Father might have in mind to give honor, wisdom, or lasting purpose. In fact, we see every one of these things in God’s pledge to Abram.

But let’s not overlook two conditions for the Lord’s favor. From Abram’s life, we see that God values obedience and faith (Gen 12:4, Gen 15:6, Gen 22:2-3, 12).

God wants to bring abundance into your life. Be sure His blessing isn’t being hindered. Ask, Am I trusting Him? Have I ignored something He has asked me to do? Give in to His call, and open your arms to receive what your Father longs to give you.
