Passing of Beloved Dog Leads Hundreds to Church

Passing of Beloved Dog Leads Hundreds to Church

A Metro Detroit man recently shared how the death of his Chocolate Labrador Retriever helped bring people to church.

According to CBN News, Buddy the dog was known for his favorite yellow raincoat as he walked with owner John Karakian throughout the communities of Novi, Walled Lake, and Wixom over the past 12 years.

Regardless of weather conditions, walking outdoors was Buddy’s favorite activity.

After his dog’s death last March, Karakian continued their walking routes while handing out photos of the two of them along with tickets to an Easter production at Brightmoor Christian Church, where Karakian attends.

To Karakian’s surprise, there was a positive reception as he received phone calls, messages, and over 60 sympathy cards. Moreover, memorials for Buddy were set up in front of Karakian’s house.

One day, a police officer – having not seen Karakian around for some time – paid the former dog owner a visit. As Karakian shared that Buddy had passed away, the conversation became spiritual when he asked the officer, “do you think he’s in heaven?”

“Next thing you know, we’re talking about Jesus,” Karakian told CBN in an interview.

At the Easter production, Karakian didn’t think anyone would show up, but many did in a show of solidarity for Karakian and Buddy.

Karakian recognized people “from more than a decade of walks with his chocolate lab”. Moreover, he knew their faiths from previous spiritual…

Why Are Bible Verses Missing in NIV, ESV Editions?

A popular Facebook post claims book publishers are participating in a conspiracy by removing certain scriptures from the latest editions of the New International Version (NIV) and English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible.

The author of the post, Nichol Apostolic, says the NIV and ESV have “removed 64,575 words from the Bible including Jehovah, Calvary, Holy Ghost and omnipotent.” She also says the versions have removed 45 complete verses.

She also points out that the NIV is published by Zondervan. Zondervan is owned by HarperCollins, which, as Apostolic points out, also published the Satanic Bible and The Joy of Gay Sex.

She encourages readers to “refuse to be blinded by Satan” and to only use print versions of the NIV and ESV.

“There is a crusade geared towards altering the Bible as we know it; NIV, ESV and many more versions are affected,” she says.

So far, the post has more than 6,800 shares on Facebook.

COVID-19 Testing Questions: Experts Wonder if Congressional Response will Help Small Businesses, Employees

While President Trump says the coronavirus doesn’t stand a chance, other voices question that assessment when testing for the disease is limited.

From the Oval Office on Thursday, the President talked about the 32 American deaths due to COVID-19 and defended stopping travel first from China and now parts of Europe.

“I think we’ll re-establish very quickly once this ends and it’s just a question of time and I think it’ll go pretty quickly,” Trump said.

Still, the president pushing for a $700 billion payroll tax cut, a proposal that is falling flat among Democrats. It follows last week’s passing of an $8.3 billion spending package aimed at battling the coronavirus.

Experts testifying in front of a congressional committee say those measures do little to help small businesses or their employees.

“My greatest fear is these people who work for small businesses will go to work with coronavirus,” said Dr. Gerard Anderson, a professor at Johns Hopkins University. “The shop keeper will want to keep his business open because they don’t have the funds to keep the office closed for 14 days. The worker will not want to report that she has coronavirus because she probably doesn’t have sick leave.”

GET YOUR FREE FACTSHEET: Coronavirus: What You Need to Know

Now, as potential cases grow, testing still seems increasingly limited — a problem some countries don’t have.

“The system does is not really geared to what we need right now, what you are asking for. That is a failing. It is a failing,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “The idea of anybody getting it easily, the way people in other countries are doing it. We’re not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes, but we’re not.”

Meanwhile, in New Rochelle, New York, the National Guard is on the job after Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) established a perimeter to hopefully contain the number of exploding cases in the Empire State.

One shop owner labeling an area as a safe zone where people can buy things like wipes and Lysol.

“You sense a sense of panic from the consumer. You sense worry and, of course, that translates over to the employees and management where we’re concerned as well,” said Jose Filipe, owner of New Rochelle Farms Supermarket.

More than 100 colleges and universities are closing their doors because of the pandemic.

Taylor Klass, a student at Ohio State University, says spring break this week will be followed by online classes only.  But she and others are there doing lab work.

“It’s mostly been confusion just because we don’t know what precautions we should take and if we should be here or if we’re allowed to be here,” she explained.  “I feel safe especially since there are no confirmed cases in Columbus right now. I wash my hands a lot.”

Michael Brown on The Coronavirus: From Prophecy to Conspiracy Theory to Pragmatism

What are we to make of the coronavirus? Is it true that God has spoken through modern-day prophets who have declared the virus will be short-lived? Should we believe the theorists who claim the virus is a man-made weapon? And on a practical level, do we follow the hyper-caution of Israel’s Netanyahu or the more laid-back approach of President Trump?

As far as prophecies go, Pastor Shawn Boltz posted this on March 3:

“The Lord showed me the end of the coronavirus. The tide is turning now!

“He is answering the prayers and cries of the nations and is putting an end in sight. The exaggerated fear based tactics of both the enemy and several media outlets for political reasons is coming to an end. The enemy has been trying to distract and steal from several equally important purposes and issues by dominating airwaves with conspiracy and fear.

“Even now several vaccines are coming out as well as a natural dying out of the virus itself. The Lord is saying ‘I am removing the threat of this.’

“Within a short amount of time the extreme threat will feel like it is in the way past.”

As of this writing, there is no end in sight to the virus, although it is allegedly under control in countries like South Korea and China.

So, if this prophecy is to prove true, there will need to be a very quick turnaround.

For example, “German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned that up to 70% of the country’s population – some 58 million people – could contract the coronavirus.”

And in Italy, “Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced the closure of schools, gyms, museums, nightclubs and other venues across the country, which on Wednesday passed 10,000 confirmed infections.”

If Boltz really heard from the Lord, we should see supernatural evidence of it very soon.

As for conspiracy theories, as expected, in some circles, the Jews are being blamed for the virus. But this is to be expected. In centuries past, “the Jews” were accused of poisoning the wells, leading to the Black Plague.

Now, the Jerusalem Post reports, “Iran has pushed several reports claiming that ‘Zionists’ were behind the coronavirus. Press TV also quoted the same website that was at the center of an antisemitic article from 2017 that claimed ‘America’s Jews are driving America’s wars.’

“On March 5, Press TV claimed that ‘Zionist elements developed a deadlier strain of coronavirus against Iran.’”

So, Iran mishandles the outbreak of COVID-19, and it’s all the fault of Israel.

Christian Rohingya Refugees Attacked, Kidnapped in Bangladesh

Christian Rohingya Refugees Attacked, Kidnapped in Bangladesh

YANGON, Burma, March 11, 2020 (Morning Star News) – A rights group has confirmed reports that suspected Muslim, ethnic Rohingya beat and kidnapped Rohingya Christians on Jan. 26-27 in a refugee camp in Bangladesh.

At least 12 Rohingya Christians were hospitalized with injuries from an attack in Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar District on the evening of Jan. 26, according to a March 6 report from international human rights group Fortify Rights. Citing survivors who said they were attacked because the assailants thought the Christians were converting Muslims, Fortify Rights also documented the destruction of the Rohingya Christian refugees’ makeshift church building.

“More than 50 people destroyed the church. They are Rohingya from different areas,” a Rohingya refugee woman told Fortify Rights.

She said the attackers claimed Christians were trying to convert Rohingya Muslims. The predominantly Muslim Rohingya themselves are severely persecuted in Burma (Myanmar), resulting in mass refugee flows to Bangladesh and other countries. Fortify Rights estimates there are 1.1 million Rohingya refugees from Burma in Bangladesh, most Muslims except for “at least several hundred” Christians.

Another Rohingya woman said a group of Rohingya men entered her shelter near the church the night of Jan. 26 and stabbed her husband, according to Fortify Rights.

“They had long swords,” she told…

PODCAST: The Resurrection, Part 21 (Reasons to Believe #168 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to The Reasons to Believe podcast, episode #168. My name is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International.

Our Reasons to Believe Scripture Passage for today is Romans 10:9. It reads, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Our Reasons to Believe quote for today is from Spirit & Truth Fellowship International. It says, “If true, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the single most important event in the history of mankind, and therefore the one most crucial to establish as an authentic historical event. In fact, the resurrection is the very linchpin of the Christian faith, holding together every claim and every blessing. If the resurrection could be proven a fraud, Christianity would disintegrate as a total fabrication with little redeeming merit. Jesus would not even be an example of a “good moral teacher,” as some maintain, for his most important prediction—that he would be raised from the dead—would be found a lie. As Christians, our very salvation depends in large part upon the reliability of the four historical records of the birth, life, death, and especially the resurrection of Jesus Christ. A deeply held belief in the resurrection as a fact of history is a vital element for our eternal salvation. Romans 10:9 asserts: “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” We are trifling with the bedrock of our salvation when we entertain doubts about the historical accuracy of any part of Scripture. But most crucial are those parts that make historical claims upon which our salvation depends. Therefore, those who argue that the historicity of the resurrection is not provable and even unnecessary are contradicting the testimony of the apostolic witnesses. Indeed, the Apostle Paul’s entire ministry was built upon the foundation of the resurrection, and it was his personal encounter with the risen Christ that caused him to develop an unassailable conviction in the reality of this event….All of the alternate explanations proposed for the resurrection lack credibility. In light of the evidence of the empty tomb, the resurrection appearances and the rise of the Christian Church, a reasonable person should conclude that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a well-established historical fact. In a court of law, such evidence would compel conviction unless contradictory evidence could be brought forward to introduce “a reasonable doubt.” But all alternate explanations and theories are extremely doubtful and counter-intuitive. Therefore, Christians are being rational, sensible, and fully consistent with common sense when they rest their faith on this well-established historical event. Not only is there compelling historical evidence to back the belief, but extravagant benefits in the future are promised to those who believe it. According to the Bible, the only sure promise of everlasting life for mankind, both individually and collectively, depends upon belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Halley writes: ‘What a hale of glory this simple belief sheds on human life. Our hope of resurrection and life everlasting is based, not on a philosophic guess about immortality, but an historic fact.’”

Our Reason to Believe powerpoint today is titled “The Resurrection, Part 21” from “The Handbook of Christian Apologetics” by Peter Kreeft and Ronald K. Tacelli.

The authors continue with the seventh part of this chapter subtitled, “Conclusions: More Objections Answered.”

No alternative to a real resurrection has yet explained: the existence of the Gospels, the origin of the Christian faith, the failure of Christ’s enemies to produce his corpse, the empty tomb, the rolled-away stone or the accounts of the postresurrection appearances. Swoon, conspiracy, hallucination and myth have been shown to be the only alternatives to a real resurrection, and each has been refuted.

What reasons could be given at this point for anyone who still would refuse to believe? At this point, general rather than specific objections are usually given. For instance:

Objection 1:
History is not an exact science. It does not yield absolute certainty like mathematics.
Reply: This is true, but why would you note that fact now and not when you speak of Caesar or Luther or George Washington? History is not exact, but it is sufficient. No one doubts that Caesar crossed the Rubicon; why do many doubt that Jesus rose from the dead? The evidence for the latter is much better than that for the former.

Objection 2:
You can’t trust documents. Paper proves nothing. Anything can be forged.
Reply: This is simply ignorance. Not trusting documents is like not trusting telescopes. Paper evidence suffices for most of what we believe; why should it suddenly become suspect here?

Objection 3:
Because the resurrection is miraculous. It’s the content of the idea rather than the documentary evidence for it that makes it incredible.
Reply: Now we finally have a straightforward objection—not to the documentary evidence but to miracles. This is a philosophical question, not a scientific, historical or textual question.

Objection 4:
It’s not only miracles in general but this miracle in particular that is objectionable. The resurrection of a corpse is crass, crude, vulgar, literalistic and materialistic. Religion should be more spiritual, inward, ethical.
Reply: If religion is what we invent, we can make it whatever we like. If it is what God invented, then we have to take it as we find it, just as we have to take the universe as we find it, rather than as we’d like it to be.

Death is crass, crude, vulgar, literal and material. The resurrection meets death where it is and conquers it, rather than merely spouting some harmless, vaporous abstractions about spirituality. The resurrection is as vulgar as the God who did it. He also made mud and bugs and toenails.

Objection 5: But a literalistic interpretation of the resurrection ignores the profound dimensions of meaning found in the symbolic, spiritual and mythic realms that have been deeply explored by other religions. Why are Christians so narrow and exclusive? Why can’t they see the profound symbolism in the idea of resurrection?
Reply: They can. It’s not either-or. Christianity does not invalidate the myths, it validates them, by incarnating them. It is “myth become fact,” to use the title of a germane essay by C.S. Lewis (in God in the Dock).

Why prefer a one-layer cake to a two-layer cake? Why refuse either the literal-historical or the mythic-symbolic aspects of the resurrection? The fundamentalist refuses the mythic-symbolic aspects because he has seen what the modernist has done with it: used it to exclude the literal-historical aspects. Why have the modernists done that? What terrible fate awaits them if they follow the multifarious and weighty evidence and argument that naturally emerges from the data, as we have summarized it here in this chapter?

The answer is not obscure: traditional Christianity awaits them, complete with adoration of Christ as God, obedience to Christ as Lord, dependence on Christ as Savior, humble confession of sin and a serious effort to live Christ’s life of self-sacrifice, detachment from the world, righteousness, holiness and purity of thought, word and deed. The historical evidence is massive enough to convince the open-minded inquirer. By analogy with any other historical event, the resurrection has eminently credible evidence behind it. To disbelieve it, you must deliberately make an exception to the rules you use everywhere else in history. Now why would someone want to do that?

Ask yourself that question if you dare, and take an honest look into your heart before you answer.

Lord willing, we will begin the topic, “The Bible: Myth or History?”, in our next episode.

—PRAYER—

Now, if you are listening today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, allow me to show you how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time, my friend, please keep in mind these reasons to believe. God bless!

Officials: US Strikes Iran-backed Group that Hit Iraq Base

WASHINGTON (AP) – The U.S. launched airstrikes in Iraq Thursday, American officials said, targeting the Iranian-backed Shia militia members believed responsible for the rocket attack that killed and wounded American and British troops at a base north of Baghdad.

One U.S. official said multiple strikes targeted Kataib Hezbollah weapons facilities inside Iraq. The strikes were joint operation with the British, that official said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because operations were still going on.

The strikes marked a rapid escalation in tensions with Tehran and its proxy groups in Iraq, just two months after Iran carried out a massive ballistic missile attack against American troops at a base in Iraq.

PODCAST: WHO Declares Coronavirus a Pandemic (Second Coming Watch Update #909 with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III with the Second Coming Watch Update. This is update #909. Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to BBC News, The coronavirus outbreak has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organization. WHO chief Dr. Tedros [TEH-DROSE] said the number of cases outside China had increased 13-fold in two weeks. He said he was “deeply concerned” by “alarming levels of inaction”. A pandemic is a disease that is spreading in multiple countries around the world at the same time. Dr. Tedros [TEH-DROSE] said that calling the outbreak a pandemic did not mean the WHO was changing its advice about what countries should do. He called on governments to change the course of the outbreak by taking “urgent and aggressive action”.

Second, today, under the Sign category of MOVEMENT TOWARD A ONE-WORLD RELIGION — According to Neon Nettle, A top UN official has called on world religions to defer their authority on matters concerning law and policy to the United Nations. Ahmad Shaheed [AH-MAHD SHAH-HEED], the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, determined that laws based on traditional morality, often religious in nature, must be repealed if they conflict with the opinions of UN experts and human rights scholars. Shaheed [SHAH-HEED] wrote, “States have an obligation to guarantee to everyone, including women, girls, and LGBT+ people, an equal right to freedom of religion or belief”. The obligations of the state include “creating an enabling environment where pluralist and progressive self-understandings can manifest.” In order to enable these “self-understandings,” laws criminalizing abortion or various sexual behaviors would need to be overruled. Shaheed [SHAH-HEED] noted that laws regarding abortion and homosexual behavior often arise from the application of religious teachings regarding the sanctity of life, the family, and sexual morality.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to NBC News, Italy’s Civil Protection Agency confirmed Wednesday that almost 200 people died from the coronavirus in 24 hours — the highest daily increase in absolute terms registered anywhere in the world since the respiratory illness emerged in China at the end of last year. From Tuesday to Wednesday, 196 people died, bringing the total number of deaths to 897. Confirmed cases across the country rose to 12,462 from a previous 10,149. After an initial lockdown in the north failed to prevent the spread, the government on Monday banned all nonessential travel and public gatherings throughout Italy until April 3, halted all sports events and extended a shutdown of schools.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of THE RISE OF GOG & MAGOG — According to Israel National News, An Islamic Jihad delegation, headed by leader Ziad Nakhala [ZEE-AHD NAHK-LAH], met in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The Palestine Al-Yawm website, which is affiliated with the organization, said that the talks between the sides focused on the US “Deal of the Century” and on Palestinian unity. They were described as “positive” and “profound”. The representatives of the Islamic Jihad expressed their firm opposition to the “Deal of the Century”, which they said strives to “eliminate the Palestinian problem, as well as to give up Jerusalem, the West Bank and the right of return of refugees.” Russia rejected the “Deal of the Century” shortly after it was made public, saying of its provisions “do not fully correspond to the relevant resolutions by the UN Security Council”.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to Israel National News, North Korea fired three unidentified projectiles on Monday. No details were provided on the projectiles. The incident comes one week after North Korea fired what South Korea said appeared to be two short-range ballistic missiles off its eastern coastal city of Wonsan into the sea. The North’s state media said at the time that leader Kim Jong Un had overseen a “long-range artillery” drill. North Korea has conducted several tests of ballistic missiles in recent months, ever since talks with the US over denuclearization of the Korean peninsula broke down.

——–

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Ezekiel 1:1-3. It reads: “Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar [KEY-BAR], that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin’s [JEH-HOY-AH-KIN] captivity, The word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi [BU-ZEE], in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar [KEY-BAR]; and the hand of the Lord was there upon him.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Both divisions of Ezekiel’s prophecy were visionary. Therefore, it is unwarranted to treat the first division as historical (since fulfillment occurred historically with the destruction of the first temple and the exile), and the second division as symbolic (since fulfillment did not occur historically under the return and the building of the second temple). From the historical perspective of Ezekiel’s audience (as well as that of Jeremiah and Daniel), the whole of the book was certainly to be understood literally (historically) as corresponding promises of the nation’s punishment and pardon. Just as the first was realized in their day, so the second would also be realized in a future day.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from A. W. Tozer. He said, “Christians are never to be caught unawares. They are never to put on their smoking jacket or the lounging robe while it is dark and the call of the trumpet is expected. The only safety for anyone is the blood. While the call of God may come at any minute to take us out of this Egypt we call the world, you and I cannot afford to be careless. Instead of letting the cross keep us always on the alert and ready to go, we have painted the cross and reshaped it, and geared it in with the better element of the world. The people of God are asleep doing their little labors, while we wait for the call of the trumpet that will take us out of this world. Oh, that we might again have that sense of immediacy and urgency that was upon the early church!”

Let’s Pray

***

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.

Churches Want to Welcome Children with Disabilities but Most Don’t Have Accommodations

Churches Want to Welcome Children with Disabilities but Most Don’t Have Accommodations

A recent survey released by LifeWay Research shows that nearly all Protestant pastors and churchgoers believe children and adults with disabilities are welcomed and included in their churches but that many of these churches do not have classes or teachers to accommodate them.

According to The Christian Post, the study asked 1,000 Protestant pastors and 1,002 American Protestant churchgoers if they believed their church was welcoming to those with disabilities. Ninety-nine percent of pastors agreed as well as 97% of churchgoers. And, almost all pastors (99%) said churches should be accessible to those with physical disabilities, including wheelchair ramps and other necessary facility modifications.

A vast majority—95%—of pastors also said that their church was involved in at least one of five different ways in caring for families and kids with disabilities. And 75% of the church pushes their congregation to volunteer at community events for those with disabilities.

However, less than 30% of churches provide classes or events specifically designed for people with disabilities; only half can provide an extra teacher to aid special needs children in classes.

According to Tim Lucas, pastor of Liquid Church in Parsippany, New Jersey, the “church is 30 years behind” when it comes to helping those with special needs.

“[Churches] don’t have the manpower and muscle even…
