Son of Sheriff’s Deputy Pleads Guilty for Setting Fire to Black Churches in Louisiana

Twenty-one-year-old Holden Matthews has pleaded guilty to federal and state criminal charges for burning black churches in Louisiana, as reported by the AP.

The aspiring ‘black metal’ musician and son of a sheriff’s deputy entered guilty pleas into federal court for three counts of intentional damage to religious property, which is a federal hate crime, as well as one count of using fire to commit a felony. In state court, he also pleaded guilty to six related state charges.

“Matthews admitted to setting the fires because of the religious character of these buildings, in an effort to raise his profile as a ‘Black Metal’ musician by copying similar crimes committed in Norway in the 1990s,” said the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Matthews posted photos and videos of the burnings to his Facebook page.

His sentence has yet to be determined, but hate-crimes carry 20 years in prison while using fire in a felony holds a 10-year sentence, totaling a maximum of 70 years. At a minimum, he would get 10 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges do not mention racial motivation, though the burned churches had largely black members. The churches were empty at the time of the fires, so there were no injuries or deaths.

“The freedom to safely congregate and worship in our churches is a fundamental right of all Americans and will be…

Pastor Perry Noble Says Celebrity Christian Life Left Him ‘Empty’ as He Looks to Expand Recently Launched Second Chance Church

South Carolina preacher Perry Noble revealed that the celebrity Christian life left him “empty” as he announced that he is looking to expand his congregation into a 28,000-square-foot building just a year after launching Second Chance Church.

Noble, who founded the popular NewSpring Church in Anderson, served as senior pastor of that megachurch where weekly attendance was 30,000 until he was fired in 2016 for alcohol abuse and other “unfortunate choices and decisions.”

A year after launching Second Chance Church, also in Anderson, in a return to ministry, Noble told his approximately 350-member congregation that the current location was getting too small and that he wanted to expand in the 28,000-square-foot building that at one point served as a Walmart.

“We’re going to be able to build an auditorium that seats 700, which allows us to double in size from where we are right now. We’re going to be able to have children’s ministry, birth through fifth grade,” he said.

Responding to critics who feel he just wants to build another big church to return to the limelight, Noble bluntly declared: “I don’t.”

“I’ve seen the Christian celebrity side, just to be real honest: the book deals, the conference circuit, the magazine articles, churches being written up, talked about and bragged about. You know what? I don’t care if I ever see that again,” Noble said.

“The thing to me that is the most important is individual people meeting Jesus and finding hope again. And the magazines and the book deals and the conference circuits can go do everything they want to do. I’ve had that, I’ve tasted it, it left me empty. What fills my cup is seeing people who feel like they’ve been lost and abandoned by God find hope again. That’s why we’re going to do this.”

Egypt Again Delays Court Hearing for Coptic Christian Activist Who Was Arrested and Jailed Last November

Authorities in Egypt have again delayed the court hearing for a Coptic Christian activist jailed last November on “preposterous charges,” according to a persecution watchdog group.

It’s been over two months since plainclothes police officers in Cairo raided the home of Christian activist Rami Kamil during the early hours of the morning. He was taken into custody and reportedly accused of joining a terror group as well as broadcasting false information.

However, advocates contend that Kamil was targeted because of his advocacy for human rights and religious freedom. Kamil is part of the Maspero Youth Union, an activist group fighting for equality and civil rights for the Coptic community. He has also written about the mistreatment suffered by Christians in Egypt.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a United Nations-recognized NGO that works in several countries to assist persecuted communities, reports that Kamil was slated to appear before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on Jan. 19.

But on the day of his hearing, Kamil’s lawyers waited several hours before being informed that the Ministry of Interior did not bring Kamil from Torra prison to the SSSP office for the hearing.

According to CSW, this is not the first time that the government ministry failed to transfer Kamil from the prison to the hearing.

Sources who spoke with the nonprofit agency believe that failure to bring Kamil to his scheduled hearings are an attempt to prolong his legal process as well as increase psychological pressure.

There have been several “procedural irregularities” in Kamil’s case. According to CSW, Kamil’s detention was extended by 15 days after an interrogation by prosecutors. Defense attorneys were informed that Kamil’s detention would be extended again even though he has not been formally charged with a crime.

It is not yet clear when the next hearing is scheduled.

“Mr. Kamil’s detention increasingly appears to be an effort to punish him for his work as a human rights defender,” CSW Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas said in a statement. “We call for his immediate and unconditional release, and for due process to be observed.”

Amazon, Netflix, TikTok Among World’s Worst Sexual Exploiters, Group Says

Amazon, Google, Netflix and some of the world’s largest companies have landed on the 2020 “Dirty Dozen List,” an infamous compilation by the National Center On Sexual Exploitation. The companies on the list are what the NCOSE calls the top facilitators of sexual exploitation in the United States.

All total, 13 entities are on the list, including social media services Twitter and TikTok. The Center calls itself the “leading national organization” exposing the links between all forms of sexual exploitation, including child sexual abuse, prostitution, sex trafficking and pornography.

“In 2020, it is intolerable for a mainstream company or entity to facilitate, profit from, or normalize sexual exploitation – and that’s why the Dirty Dozen List exists,” said Haley McNamara, vice president of advocacy and outreach at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

“This list,” McNamara added, “ensures that their promotion and collusion with sexual assault, sex trafficking, pornography, the eroticization of incest, and more, becomes public knowledge, and equips concerned citizens with information and tools to hold them accountable.”

According to an analysis from the Center:

Amazon earned a spot on the list for selling “incest-themed porn, sex dolls, photography books with eroticized child nudity, pornographic magazines” and other items, while its Prime Video media…

Historic Black Churches in Pennsylvania Attempt to Hold Congregations Together as They Grapple With Declining Attendance and Financial Hurdles

Rev. Michael Evans is leading Berean Presbyterian, a 140-year-old church on Broad Street near Diamond, through a time of “transformation and transition.”

“We’re on the cusp of changing,” Evans said. “It’s important because of what’s going on financially and with the ministry service.”

Evans wants to attract young members to Berean, a congregation of mostly people 70-years and older, he said.

“Church is not a top priority,” Evans said. “You find more people in the mall on Sunday than you do in church. You find more people at the football game or something like that. At one time, you couldn’t find anything else open but a church.”

Historically Black churches around Temple are facing declining attendance and deterioration of their buildings. The Temple News asked church leaders and congregants what it will take for the churches to endure through the future.

Berean Presbyterian Church

In 1955, Rev. Benjamin Glasco Sr. and the Berean family bought Bethlehem Presbyterian Church’s building on Broad Street near Diamond. The church has remained there ever since, Evans said.

Between 60 and 80 people attend service at Berean each week, Evans said.

“We have some financial hardships, but we’re optimistic,” said Alison King, Berean’s clerk of session.

Part of the church’s income comes from fundraisers and renting out space in the church, King added.

Temple rents space in Berean for its Pan-African Studies Community Education Program, King said. Temple’s acapella groups, Broad Street Line and Singchronize, also rent space. Other renters include Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services and Narcotics Anonymous.

“We have to be more visible,” Evans said. “We have all this space. We have this resource that God has given us. How do we take this resource and be more functional in the community?”

The church will host a fundraiser, Berean Jazz Fest, on March 21, which attracts hundreds of attendees, Stewart said.

In January, Temple students and community residents gathered in Berean for a reading of Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, The Temple News reported.

“This church is the best experience that I had, because I got to be a part of so many things that I always wanted to do,” said Margaret Searles, who has attended Berean for 42 years. “And there are so many people I’ve met that I never thought I would meet.”

“There are so many places I have been in the world, but this tops it all,” added Searles, who lives on Duval Street near Morton in Mt. Airy.

Jones Tabernacle A.M.E. Church

Rev. Richard Wright, Jr. founded Jones Tabernacle on 20th Street near Susquehanna Avenue in 1930 after splitting from Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church. This year, Jones will be celebrating its 90th anniversary with a “year of celebration” which includes a series of workshops for community residents and a neighborhood block party, The Temple News reported.

“We’re maintaining [our historical significance],” said John Griswold, Jones’ longest-attending member. “It’s become very difficult because of the size of the congregation. It’s way down.”

Griswold, 91, remembers when Jones Tabernacle had more than a thousand members. Now, membership is less than 200 people, said Rev. Miriam Burnett, Jones’ first female pastor.

PODCAST: A Variety of Views, Part 3 (The Prophet Daniel’s Report #668 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to The Prophet Daniel’s Report. This is report #668.

My name is Daniel Whyte III here to remind you that Jesus Christ is coming back soon and that you need to be prepared. This broadcast is not about predictions, nor is it about setting dates as some foolishly have done, however it is all about preparation.

First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ gave them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the Coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Ynet News, Blue & White chairman Benny Gantz announced he will bring a peace plan for the Middle East proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for Knesset approval next week. Gantz, speaking at the 13th International INSS Research Institute Conference, said, “In recent months, we met with U.S. President Donald Trump’s team, led by his adviser Jared Kushner, U.S. Ambassador David Friedman and Ambassador to the Middle East Avi Berkowitz, and discussed the U.S. government’s peace plan. As an Israeli patriot, I tell you that the program faithfully reflects the basic principles of Blue & White’s agenda and forms the basis for future settlement in the Middle East.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced earlier that he intends to approve a motion to apply Israeli sovereignty over West Bank settlements during a Security Cabinet meeting. Gantz said he would bring the U.S. peace plan – which includes Israeli approval to grant Palestinian statehood – for Knesset to vote on next week. The former IDF chief didn’t miss an opportunity to take a jibe at Netanyahu, mentioning the premier’s legal woes and considering them detrimental to his part in the implementation of the plan. Gantz said: “The Deal of the Century was the second most-historic moment this week. The first and saddening event was when indictments against an incumbent prime minister were filed at court. In order to bring the Trump peace plan to fruition, we need an honest, trustworthy and available prime minister. This is a historic opportunity to shape the borders and future of Israel and find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict instead of running it.”

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Jerusalem Post, The IDF attacked Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in response to a barrage of rockets sent into Israel a few hours prior. IDF airplanes and fighter jets attacked a long line of terrorist targets belonging to Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip. Among other targets, the IDF struck an underground cell belonging to the terrorist organization. The attack significantly deterred Hamas’s ability to build upwards. A few hours earlier, three rockets entered Israel from the Gaza Strip, two of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome system and one which landed in an open field near Sapir [SAH-PEER] College in Sderot [SDEHR-ROHT]. In addition, the day was plagued with numerous incendiary balloons entering Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to NHK News, China’s agriculture ministry says the highly pathogenic H5N6 strain of bird flu has been confirmed at a poultry farm in the southwestern province of Sichuan [SEH-CHU-AWN]. The ministry says that 1,840 out of about 2,500 chickens at the poultry farm died of avian flu caused by the H5N6 virus. The remaining chickens were culled to prevent the infection from spreading. Earlier this month, the ministry said that the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of bird flu was detected at a poultry farm in Hunan [HOO-NAHN] Province. Chinese authorities are apparently stepping up measures against the series of bird flu outbreaks as they also contend with the spread of new coronavirus [KR-OW-NUH-VAI-RUHS] infections in the country.

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “A Variety of Views, Part 3” from Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson’s book “The Essential Guide to Bible Prophecy.”

Pre-millennial. This view says that Christ will return at the end of the church age to set up His kingdom on earth for a literal 1000 years. Most pre-millennialists also believe there will be a period of great tribulation on earth prior to the return of Christ. Some pre-millennialists believe the church will go through the Tribulation (post-tribulationists), others believe the church will be raptured prior to the Tribulation (pre-tribulationists), and a small number believe the church will be raptured in the middle of the Tribulation (mid-tribulationists). Despite these differences in regard to the rapture of the church, pre-millennialists generally believe in the future restoration of the state of Israel and the eventual conversion of the Jews to Christianity.

Most evangelical Christians hold to the dispensational pre-millennial view of eschatology, which looks forward to the rapture of believers to heaven as the next major prophetic event to be fulfilled. This, they believe, will end the church age and prepare the way for the Tribulation and the return of Christ. One Bible passage that suggests the rapture is 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Early Christians were unquestionably pre-millennialists. The disciples and those they taught anticipated the return of Christ and the establishment of His kingdom on earth in their lifetime. Detractors of the pre-millennial view claim that it is relatively new theology. But scholars have demonstrated that pre-millennialism was the dominant view held during the first three centuries of the early church.

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic in our next podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and I to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. It is a collection of what he called “prophetic tracts” that focus on the believer’s duty in light of the signs which point to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

This section is titled, “Idolatry to be Destroyed at Christ’s Coming” (Part 1). J.C. Ryle writes:

Isaiah 11:18 reads, “The idols He shall utterly abolish.”

The time here spoken of will be plain to all who take the prophecy of Isaiah in its literal meaning. It is the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,–the day when “He ariseth to shake terribly the earth.” The event is part of that mighty purification which will then take place in His professing Church–the abolishing of all idols; and the principal subject which claims your consideration in the text is idolatry.

Without further preface, I desire to ask your attention to the four following points:–

1. The definition of idolatry. What is it?
2. The cause of idolatry. Whence comes it?
3. The form idolatry assumes in the visible Church of Christ. Where is it?
4. The ultimate abolition of idolatry. What will end it?

I feel that the subject is encompassed with many difficulties. Our lot is cast in an age when truth is constantly in danger of being sacrificed to toleration, charity, and peace falsely so called. Nevertheless, I cannot forget that I am a minister of a Church which has given no uncertain sound on the subject of idolatry; and, unless I am greatly mistaken, truth about idolatry is, in the highest sense, truth for the times.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

……..
CLOSING PRAYER
…….

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the Return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…” Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.

PODCAST: Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening #25 (with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening podcast. This is Episode #25.

Charles Spurgeon was a prominent English Particular Baptist preacher. He was very influential among the Christians of various denominations during his age and even today, and is commonly called the “Prince of Preachers”. After some time of alternately searching for God and running from God, he had a powerful encounter which led him to give his life to Christ. Spurgeon was only 16 when he preached his first sermon and he began publishing books shortly afterward. At the time of his death, he had preached nearly 3,600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, sayings, anecdotes, illustrations and devotions. Spurgeon said, “encouraging thoughts are like honey to the heart”, and wrote this devotional in hopes that its uplifting messages for each day of the year would bring comfort and refreshment to our walk with God. He was inspired by Isaiah 50:4 which reads, “He wakeneth morning by morning. He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned” and Psalm 63:5-6 which says, “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches.”

1 Kings 22:48 reads: “Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.”

Solomon’s ships had returned in safety, but Jehoshaphat’s vessels never reached the land of gold. Providence prospers one, and frustrates the desires of another, in the same business and at the same spot, yet the Great Ruler is as good and wise at one time as another. May we have grace today, in the remembrance of this text, to bless the Lord for ships broken at Ezion-geber, as well as for vessels freighted with temporal blessings; let us not envy the more successful, nor murmur at our losses as though we were singularly and specially tried. Like Jehoshaphat, we may be precious in the Lord’s sight, although our schemes end in disappointment.

The secret cause of Jehoshaphat’s loss is well worthy of notice, for it is the root of very much of the suffering of the Lord’s people; it was his alliance with a sinful family, his fellowship with sinners. In 2 Ch. 20:37, we are told that the Lord sent a prophet to declare, “Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works.” This was a fatherly chastisement, which appears to have been blest to him; for in the verse which succeeds our morning’s text we find him refusing to allow his servants to sail in the same vessels with those of the wicked king. Would to God that Jehoshaphat’s experience might be a warning to the rest of the Lord’s people, to avoid being unequally yoked together with unbelievers! A life of misery is usually the lot of those who are united in marriage, or in any other way of their own choosing, with the men of the world. O for such love to Jesus that, like him, we may be holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners; for if it be not so with us, we may expect to hear it often said, “The Lord hath broken thy works.”

PRAY.

Thank you for listening to the Morning and Evening podcast. If you do not know the Lord as your Savior, here is how you can be saved from Hell and walk with the Lord morning and evening until you go to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior today, please email me at [email protected] and let us know. There is some free material that we want to send you. If you have a prayer request, please e-mail that to us as well, and we will pray for you until you tell us to stop.

God loves you. We love you. And may God bless you.

PODCAST: The Scripture & The Sense Podcast #410: Amos 1:7-8 (with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III with The Scripture & The Sense Podcast #410, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Amos 1:7-8.

7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:

8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ash-dod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ash-ke-lon, and I will turn mine hand against Ek-ron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.

________

That was Amos 1:7-8. Now here is the sense of it.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

For this sin, the Philistine cities would be completely annihilated—buildings, king, and people. God would turn His hand against them till the last of the Philistines was dead. This judgment was partially fulfilled in the subjugation of the Philistines to the Assyrians later in the eighth century b.c., and more completely during the Mac-ca-be-an period. Sovereign Lord occurs 19 times in Amos, but only 5 other times in all the Minor Prophets. That title stresses both His lordship and His covenant relationship with His people.

____________

Thank you for listening to the Scripture & The Sense Podcast. Remember to read the Word of God each and every day and pray without ceasing to God for wisdom to understand it and apply it to your life. Most importantly, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Please stay tuned for a complete presentation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can get your soul saved from Hell to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die. May God bless you and keep you is my prayer.

PODCAST: Whyte House Daily Devotional Bible Reading Episode #75: Leviticus 17, Psalm 120, and Acts 2 (with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Daily Devotional Bible Reading Episode #75. Where I read three chapters of the Holy Bible in the King James Version a day with my family as a part of our family devotions, to encourage you to read the Holy Bible in a year’s time. We are using a modified version of the Five Day Bible Reading Plan. It is modified because we read the Bible everyday and not just five days a week. The benefit of using the Five Day Bible Reading Plan is: you can read the entire Bible in a chronological reading plan that helps the Bible make sense. Today we are reading Leviticus 17, Psalm 120 and Acts 2.

Soren Kierkegaard said, “When you read God’s Word, you must constantly be saying to yourself, “It is talking to me, and about me.”

Oswald Chambers said, “Am I learning how to use my Bible? The way to become complete for the Master’s service is to be well soaked in the Bible; some of us only exploit certain passages. Our Lord wants to give us continuous instruction out of His Word; continuous instruction turns hearers into disciples.”

Leviticus 17
1 And the Lord spake unto Mo’-ses, saying,

2 Speak unto Aa’-ron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Is’-ra-el, and say unto them; This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, saying,

3 What man soever there be of the house of Is’-ra-el, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,

4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the Lord before the tabernacle of the Lord; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:

5 To the end that the children of Is’-ra-el may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the Lord, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the Lord.

6 And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the Lord.

7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.

8 And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of Is’-ra-el, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice,

9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the Lord; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.

10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Is’-ra-el, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

12 Therefore I said unto the children of Is’-ra-el, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Is’-ra-el, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.

14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Is’-ra-el, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

15 And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.

16 But if he wash them not, nor bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.

Psalm 120
A Song of degrees.
1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Me’-sech, that I dwell in the tents of Ke’-dar!

6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

Acts 2
1 And when the day of Pen’-te-cost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Je-ru’-sa-lem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Gal-i-lae-ans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Par’-thi-ans, and Medes, and E’-lam-ites, and the dwellers in Mes-o-po-ta’-mi-a, and in Ju’-dae-a, and Cap-pa-do’-ci-a, in Pon’-tus, and A’-sia,

10 Phryg’-i-a, and Pam-phyl’-i-a, in E’-gypt, and in the parts of LIb’-y-a about Cy-re’-ne, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and A-ra’-bi-ans, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 But Pe’-ter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Ju’-dae-a, and all ye that dwell at Je-ru’-sa-lem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Jo’-el;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

22 Ye men of Is’-ra-el, hear these words; Je’-sus of Naz’-a-reth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

25 For Da’-vid speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch Da’-vid, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32 This Je’-sus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34 For Da’-vid is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

36 Therefore let all the house of Is’-ra-el know assuredly, that God hath made the same Je’-sus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Pe’-ter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Pe’-ter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Je’-sus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

When I was a teenager I wanted to get wisdom and knowledge, so I set out the read the big family Bible that many families had in those days. But I couldn’t get past Genesis 2 before I got bored with reading the Bible. I found out later in life that you have to believe on Christ and get saved before you can understand the Bible. So here is how I became a Christian and how you can too:

PODCAST: Happiness (Gospel Light Minute X #422 with Daniel Whyte III)

Happiness (GLMX #422)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #422 titled, “Happiness” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Happiness . . . we long for it; we work for it. But every time we think we have it, it’s gone—like a soap bubble in a child’s eager grasp.

Happiness is more than a great vacation, a new job, a healthy family, or even our “dream come true.” Ultimate joy is a quality of life that comes from God alone.

Only Jesus Christ, the Son of God, can promise: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” and “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

It’s hard to understand how great that invitation from Jesus truly is without first understanding how dire our situation is without Him. The Bible tells us that in the beginning God created a perfect world, and humans were in a perfect relationship with Him. But the first humans, Adam and Eve, did not follow God’s rule and sin entered the world. Because God is holy and without sin, the relationship that once existed between God and people was broken. And this broken relationship had far-reaching effects—death, sickness, hardship, and sadness to name a few. But God would not leave things this way.

Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God, became a man and lived the perfect life that we could not, and died on a cross to pay the penalty our sins had earned. But He did not stay in the grave. Three days later, God brought Jesus back from the dead, and He is now seated at the right hand of God in Heaven. What’s more, God has sent the Holy Spirit to live within His people, filling them with unshakable joy and a deep sense of contentment as they live not for themselves, but for the God who has redeemed them.

The curse of sin that we feel so deeply in our own broken relationships and sickness and sorrow does not have to be the defining factor of our lives any longer. The Bible says in Romans 10:9–10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. Forgiveness is freely offered to restore our relationship with God—our ultimate source of peace and hope and joy.

Christ’s offer is no false hope of a life of ease. Instead, He offers us something better—His power to remove your burden of sin and His presence to share the joys and trials of each day. By His resurrection He provides a new way of living with God now and throughout eternity.

You can have this new life today. Trust and receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord. He will not fail you.

The Bible states in 1 John 5:11–12, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.
