‘Life Is a Sacred Gift from God’ – Trump Backs Ban on Late-Term Abortion in State of the Union Address

‘Life Is a Sacred Gift from God’ – Trump Backs Ban on Late-Term Abortion in State of the Union Address

President Trump promoted a ban on late-term abortion, defended prayer in public schools and celebrated the confirmation of 187 new federal judges during a State of the Union address Tuesday that spotlighted several issues championed by Christians and social conservatives.

The speech drew repeated applause from Republicans in the chamber but less-frequent applause from Democrats and was capped by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tearing up her copy of the speech after Trump had finished.

Most social conservative leaders, though, commended Trump’s priorities.

The president addressed the issue of abortion while recognizing a two-year-old girl, Ellie Schneider, who survived after being born at 21 weeks and six days and weighing less than a pound in a Kansas City hospital. She is one of the youngest premature babies ever to survive. Ellie and her mom, Robin, were in the gallery and received an ovation from the audience.

“Ellie reminds us that every child is a miracle of life,” Trump said. “And thanks to modern medical wonders, 50 percent of very premature babies delivered at the hospital where Ellie was born now survive. It’s an incredible thing.”

Trump called on Congress to provide an additional $50 million to fund neonatal research. He then turned to the issue of abortion.

“That is why I’m also calling upon members of Congress here tonight to…

‘They’ll Burn in Hell’: Spike Lee Calls out Senators Who Vote to Acquit Trump

‘They’ll Burn in Hell’: Spike Lee Calls out Senators Who Vote to Acquit Trump

Controversial director Spike Lee told Rev. Al Sharpton this week that the senators who vote to acquit Trump in his impeachment will “burn in hell,” according to Faithwire.

In an interview with Lee on MSNBC, the BlacKkKlansman director asked Sharpton if senators had to put their hands on the Bible when they took the oath of office. Sharpton responded that he believes there was a Bible on a podium, though he wasn’t sure if they physically had to put their hand on it.

“They’re going to burn in hell if they put their hand on that Bible,” Lee said with laughter.

Sharpton joined in the laughing.

“I wouldn’t want to be standing [next] to none of those guys, because they’re gonna be struck by lightning,” Lee said. “History will say they were on the wrong side of history. The wrong side, the wrong side. So everybody—here’s the thing. I’m not speaking for anybody but myself. This is me speaking, everybody. Whoever comes out of the Democratic convention, I’m voting for, because we cannot have another four years of Agent Orange.”

Lee has long been a vocal critic of the president. In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Lee questioned…

Kanye West Claims Some Record Labels Prohibit Musicians from Mentioning Jesus

Kanye West Claims Some Record Labels Prohibit Musicians from Mentioning Jesus

In a recent Sunday Service event in Miami, Kanye told the audience that some record labels contractually forbid artists from saying “Jesus.”

“The devil took all the producers, the musicians, the designers. He moved us all out to Hollywood, moved us all out to New York. Chasing gold statues. Literally signing a contract and selling our souls,” he said to the audience, according to Relevant Magazine. “They got contracts out there that say, ‘you can’t say Jesus.’ When we were working on this album, people were coming to the studio just to say ‘Jesus’ as loud as they wanted to. You can say ‘Jesus’ in ‘Ye studio.”

Rapper Bizzle responded to West’s claim by posting a photo of West, captioning it with lyrics from Bizzle’s song “Lit Lit.” The lyrics read: “I told ‘em I am not for sale and won’t promote evil / they told me I can give you murder, but no JESUS / the devil’s in this game are handpicking yo leaders/that’s why you get 100 dope boys and no preachers.”

Relevant Magazine pondered the claimpointing out several other best-selling rappers who have also used Jesus’ name in their lyrics, including Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper. Lamar recently sang, “I am a sinner who’s probably gonna sin again. Lord forgive me. Lord forgive me.”

West recently announced the release of a follow-up album to his chart-topping Jesus is King

Singer Chynna Phillips Says Jesus Is the ‘Way, the Truth and the Light’

Singer Chynna Phillips Says Jesus Is the ‘Way, the Truth and the Light’

Chynna Phillips, the well-known singer who is also one of the music industry’s most outspoken Christians, says her niece and nephew-in-law — Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber — can make a difference for the kingdom of God.

“They are awesome examples of what it is to be a Christian and I feel like they’re going to help pave the way for other young people to see it in a new light and see that Christianity is cool,” Phillips told the New York Post’s Page Six.

Phillips, 51, is a member of the group Wilson Phillips and the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the 1960s group Mamas and the Papas. Her husband is William Baldwin, whose brother, Stephen, is Hailey’s father.

Phillips holds a Bible study in her Los Angeles home. Bieber and Hailey Baldwin don’t attend the Bible study, but Phillips said it “would be really fun” if they did.

She told Page Six she became a Christian at the age of 12 when classmates offered to pray for her.

“I knew in that moment,” she said, “that I had been touched by God and that Jesus was real and Jesus truly was the son of God and that I needed to come to terms with that reality because it was the truth. Ever since that moment I’ve known that Jesus is Lord.”

Her teen years, though, included alcohol and drug use, which she now says were a “Band-Aid to cover up all of my abandonment issues with my father and grief…

Arkansas Baptist News Dissolved and Merged Into State Convention

Amid the headwinds that have beset print journalism outlets nationwide, Arkansas Baptist News (ABN) trustees have voted to dissolve the separate, corporate entity that operated ABN and to transfer coordination of the news service to the executive board of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC).

The move, precipitated by a significant decline in subscriptions and revenue, leaves ABN’s future uncertain. But ABSC associate executive director Greg Addison said the decision revolves around structural changes, not ministry changes.

“There is no desire to kill the newspaper at all,” Addison said. “The ministry of information is vitally important.”

ABN trustees made the decision Jan. 16, and the transition was unanimously affirmed by the ABSC executive board of trustees Jan. 28.

ABN, founded in 1901, was initially part of the ABSC executive board. It was not until 1983 that ABN was differentiated from ABSC as an individual agency operating with ABSC as the parent organization, ABSC reported in a release.

However, subscriptions to ABN have declined significantly, starting in 1990 as technology increasingly changed the consumption of news, the release stated.

Studies in 1990, 1999 and 2007 on the financial status of ABN showed a need for “continued vigilance,” with the latest study in 2019 showing that ABN “was not viable financially as a separate agency,” the release reported.

ABSC reported a 2019 Cooperative Program allocation of $235,521 to ABN.

However, with decreasing subscriptions and revenue, ABN was losing money and still incurring costs — including facility, accounting and business needs, staffing and equipment — that could not be offset.

Addison said in written remarks that efforts are being made to listen to the needs of Arkansas Baptists to determine the best ways to move forward in this transition.

“We intend to conduct listening sessions amongst various groups of Arkansas Baptists in order to learn their needs as it relates to communications,” Addison said. “What information do they want and need? How do they want to receive this information? This will be an important part of the process.”

The news service will continue in an online format, and all publishing and printing will be directed by the communications team of the executive board of the ABSC.

Addison said the decision revolves around structural changes, not ministry changes.

Vacation Bible School Preview Events Build Foundations for Churches and Communities

When Zoraida Godoy attended a Vacation Bible School (VBS) at a Southern Baptist church in her community of Sabana Basora, Aruba, in 2013, she got emotional.

“Some of our children went to another local church for VBS and we saw the concept for the first time,” she said. “Watching the children dance, sing and express the biblical truths they learned just moved me. And I thought: Why couldn’t we do this at our church?”

The next year she attended a VBS preview event so she could launch the first-ever VBS week at her church. Since 2014 Iglesia Bon Nobo — the 50-member church where she serves as VBS director — has hosted VBS every other year.

“It takes a lot of volunteers and not everyone is available every year,” she said. But this year, eight people from Iglesia Bon Nobo, including Godoy, traveled to the final stop of the 2020 VBS preview tour at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, Tenn., on Jan. 30-31.

More than 4,000 VBS directors, volunteers and church leaders from nearly every state have attended a VBS preview event so far this year. A few even traveled from outside the continental U.S., including places like Nicaragua, Guam, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

LifeWay Mexico will host their preview event Feb. 8 in Mexico City. Around 1,000 pastors and church leaders are expected to attend.

Building a foundation for churches and communities

Throughout January, participants gathered for the two-day conferences in Ridgecrest, N.C., Houston and Fort Worth to interact with “Concrete & Cranes” resources and decorations, get stage set-up ideas, network with other church leaders to exchange ideas and attend equipping breakout sessions.

Breakout session topics included: curriculum overviews for each age group’s Bible studies and rotation, music and motions tutorials for the “Concrete & Cranes” music, sharing the Gospel with kids, making VBS a safe place for children, enlisting volunteers, VBS participants with special needs and an interactive crafts overview.

Preview participants also got a sneak peek at “Concrete & Cranes”-themed games, crafts and decorations in an interactive creative zone. Additionally, they had access to an onsite LifeWay store that carried all 2020 VBS resources.

In addition to the thousands who attended the preview events, 564 Southern Baptist state association leaders attended VBS Institutes at Ridgecrest Conference Center in N.C. and Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugarland, Texas.

School Principal Donates Kidney to Students’ Dad

School Principal Donates Kidney to Students’ Dad

School principal Sarah Schecter didn’t imagine spending her winter break in the hospital; much less, waking up to the prospect “giddy.” But when she heard that a father of three children at her school needed a kidney, she couldn’t shake the thought of donating her own.

“I know this sounds weird, because I’m not the type of person who hears the voice of God, but I just felt called to give him my kidney,” she said to the Dallas Morning News. “I did not want to; it was not on my list of things to do. So, I just kept thinking that someone else would give him a kidney, and that it would work out. … But it kept being on my heart, that I was the person to do it.”

It all started when Nate Jones, father of three students at Oakridge School in Arlington, Texas, noticed his vision declining. After a visit to the eye doctor, he was referred to a specialist, who “looked at my situation and said, first thing, ‘How long have you had hypertension?’” Jones said. “Of course, I’d never been diagnosed. Mind you, I didn’t have any symptoms. In fact, the night before I went to see the eye doctor, I ran a mile around my neighborhood. No problem at all.”

But as the appointment progressed, the specialist warned Jones to see a doctor as soon as possible. So, Jones drove himself to an emergency room, where he ultimately stayed for two weeks for kidney failure.

“I was just in shock,” he said….

Pastor John Ortberg Fails to Report Volunteer Who Confessed to Being Attracted to Minors

Pastor John Ortberg Fails to Report Volunteer Who Confessed to Being Attracted to Minors

Pastor and author John Ortberg reportedly allowed a volunteer who had confessed to being attracted to minors continue to working with children.

According to a statement released by the Menlo Church’s elder board, in July 2018, a volunteer in the Menlo Church confessed to Ortberg an “unwanted thought pattern of attraction to minors.”

“The person assured, to John’s satisfaction, that the person had not acted on the attraction and sought John’s support,” the board wrote. “John believed the person and provided prayers and referrals for counseling.”

Ortberg did not tell anyone about the volunteer and allowed the church member to continue volunteering with children.

Ortberg’s estranged son, Daniel Lavery, learned of the conversation between Ortberg and the volunteer and decided to report the information to the church’s elder board.

According to a letter posted by Lavery to Twitter, the volunteer also came to him to confess “obsessive sexual feelings about young children.” Lavery said the volunteer also told him that they looked for “unsupervised volunteer positions with children” as a way of “treating this obsession,” including overnight travel with children.

Additionally, the volunteer reportedly told Lavery that they had originally confessed to Ortberg in 2018.

Lavery said he asked his father and mother, Nancy, about the 2018 conversation,…

Is a ‘Breakfast Baconator’ on your diet? The power of breakfast with God

Imagine this for breakfast: grilled sausage, cheese, bacon, eggs, more cheese, and more bacon, all covered in swiss cheese sauce. Wendy’s calls it the “Breakfast Baconator.” It’s 770 calories in a bun.

According to Forbes, this is just part of the chain’s
plans for our breakfast. They are announcing a new morning menu set to launch
March 2.

The company is investing $20 million on its breakfast launch with plans to hire twenty thousand employees. They will be competing with McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, and others.

The Bible has some interesting contributions to make to our conversation.

The power of breakfast with God

The risen Christ met his disciples “just as day was
breaking” and prepared breakfast for them (John 21:4, 12). Early risers
are found throughout Scripture, including Abraham (Genesis 19:27), Jacob
(Genesis 28:18), Moses (Exodus 24:4), Joshua (Joshua 3:1), Gideon (Judges
6:38), Hannah and Elkanah (1 Samuel 1:19), and David (Psalm 5:3).

The early morning story that has most impacted me, however,
comes from the life of Jesus.

After teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum and healing a
demoniac (Mark 1:21–28), he healed Peter’s mother-in-law and then “many
who were sick with various diseases” (vv. 31, 34).

After such a day, most of us would be tempted to sleep in
the next morning. Not Jesus: “And rising very early in the morning, while
it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he
prayed” (v. 35). The Greek could be translated literally, “and there
he continued to pray.”

Simon and the other disciples “found him and said to
him, ‘Everyone is looking for you’” (v. 37). Jesus replied, “Let us
go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came
out” (v. 38). As a result, “he went throughout all Galilee, preaching
in their synagogues and casting out demons” (v. 39).

After Jesus’ experience that morning,…

PODCAST: How to Forget the Troubles, Problems, and Failures of the Past and Make the New Year the Best Year of Your Life #7 (with Daniel Whyte III)

How to Forget the Troubles, Problems, and Failures of the Past and Make the New Year the Best Year of Your Life podcast episode #7

Welcome to the How to Forget the Troubles, Problems, and Failures of the Past and Make the New Year the Best Year of Your Life podcast episode #7. My name is Daniel Whyte III the author of the book with the same title.

We are living in “times that try men’s souls.” These are truly difficult days for many people around the world. This podcast is to encourage you to forget the troubles, problems, and even failures of the past and to truly have the best year of your life. If you do what I am encouraging you to do in this little book, by the grace of God, and with His blessings on your life, you will have a great year. How do I know? Because every year over the past 10 years of my life have consistently gotten better and better because I am following the simple principles contained in this podcast. So shake the previous year off of you, and get ready for the best year of your life!

Our scripture passage for today is Romans 12:1 which says: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.”

Our New Years quote for today is from AW Tozer who said, “The man who has made God his dwelling place will always have a safe habitation.”

2. Ask God to forgive you of your sins. I John 1:9 states: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Friend of mine, you will never stop remembering the failures or sins of the past if you don’t ask God through Christ to forgive you and cleanse you of your sins.
Don’t just ask Jesus to cleanse you, accept His forgiveness. Many people pray daily, ‘Lord, forgive me of my sins.’ But after praying their hearts out, they refuse to accept the Lord’s forgiveness and continue to live defeated lives. Forgiveness is a very important gift that is essential for life. It allows us to be free from past sins and wrongdoings and gives us peace and hope for a brighter future. As we accept the forgiveness of God, we will begin to realize that spiritual freedom is possible and we can overcome habits and strongholds in our lives, which will enable us to make the New Year fulfilling.

PRAYER

Now, if you are listening today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, allow me to show you how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

God Bless You!
