PODCAST: Praying Men at a Premium, Part 2 (Prayer Motivator Devotional #767 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to the Prayer Motivator Devotional Broadcast #767. This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International. The simple purpose of this podcast is to encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to Just Pray. This podcast is not necessarily for people who already know the secret and power of prayer and who actually practice genuine prayer on a regular basis, rather it is for those who may find it difficult to pray or for people who claim they do not have time to pray. I am convinced that most Christian people do not need to learn how to pray; they need to Just Pray! If I can get you to just pray, all sorts of wonderful things will begin to happen for you, your family, and whatever God has called you to do. We do not pray based upon our subjective feelings, we pray based upon objective facts in the Word of God.

Our prayer motivator passage from the Word of God today is Matthew 6:10 which reads: “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

Allow me to share with you some important points regarding this passage from Matthew Henry’s Commentary:

2. Thy kingdom come. This petition has plainly a reference to the doctrine which Christ preached at this time, which John the Baptist had preached before, and which he afterwards sent his apostles out to preach—the kingdom of heaven is at hand. The kingdom of your Father who is in heaven, the kingdom of the Messiah, this is at hand, pray that it may come. Note, We should turn the word we hear into prayer, our hearts should echo to it; does Christ promise, surely I come quickly? our hearts should answer, Even so, come. Ministers should pray over the word: when they preach, the kingdom of God is at hand, they should pray, Father, thy kingdom come. What God has promised we must pray for; for promises are given, not to supersede, but to quicken and encourage prayer; and when the accomplishment of a promise is near and at the door, when the kingdom of heaven is at hand, we should then pray for it the more earnestly; thy kingdom come; as Daniel set his face to pray for the deliverance of Israel, when he understood that the time of it was at hand, Dan. 9:2 . See also Lu. 19:11 .

It was the Jews’ daily prayer to God, Let him make his kingdom reign, let his redemption flourish, and let his Messiah come and deliver his people. Dr. Whitby, ex Vitringa. “Let thy kingdom come, let the gospel be preached to all and embraced by all; let all be brought to subscribe to the record God has given in his word concerning his Son, and to embrace him as their Saviour and Sovereign. Let the bounds of the gospel-church be enlarged, the kingdom of the world be made Christ’s kingdom, and all men become subjects to it, and live as becomes their character.’’

Our featured prayer motivator quote is from R. C. Sproul. He said, “The kingdom of God is not of the people, by the people, or for the people. It is a kingdom ruled by a King, and God does not rule by the consent of His subjects but by His sovereign authority. His reign extends over me whether I vote for Him or not.”

My personal encouragement for you today is this: God is in Heaven waiting to hear from us through prayer. Some think God is too busy with billions of people around the world to listen to their prayer. But God is interested in hearing your prayer and He is waiting to answer your prayer. Just pray!

Our prayer motivator devotional today is titled “PRAYING MEN AT A PREMIUM” part 2 from the book, “The Weapon of Prayer” by E.M. Bounds.

E.M. Bounds goes on to say:

It is easy to see how prayer was a decreed factor in the dispensations preceding the coming of Jesus, and how that their leaders had to be men of prayer; how that God’s mightiest revelation of Himself was a revelation made through prayer. And, finally, how that Jesus Christ, in His personal ministry, and in His relation to God, was great and constant in prayer. His labours and dispensation overflowed with fullness in proportion to His prayers. The possibilities of His praying were unlimited and the possibilities of His ministry were in keeping. The necessity of His praying was equaled only by the constancy with which He practiced it during His early life.

The dispensation of the Holy Spirit is a dispensation of prayer, in a preeminent sense. Here prayer has an essential and vital relation. Without depreciating the possibilities and necessities of prayer in all the preceding dispensations of God in the world it must be declared that it is in this latter dispensation that the engagements and demands of prayer are given their greatest authority, their possibilities rendered unlimited and their necessity insuperable.

These days of ours have sore need of a generation of praying men, a band of men and women through whom God can bring His great and His greatest movements more fully into the world. The Lord our God is not straitened within Himself, but He is straitened in us, by reason of our little faith and weak praying. A breed of Christian is greatly needed who will seek tirelessly after God,—who will give Him no rest, day and night, until He hearken to their cry. The times demand praying men who are all athirst for God’s glory, who are broad and unselfish in their desires, quenchless for God, who seek Him late and early, and who will give themselves no rest until the whole earth be filled with His glory.

Now, friend, it is time for us to pray…

Remember, the announcer will provide the information for you to send in your prayer request at the end of this broadcast.

Please join me in prayer……..

We pray collectively and individually for the following:
> 3 million people to come to know you as Saviour
> the revival of the church
> the healing of families
> the healing of this nation
> blessings and guidance for all pastors, church leaders, and missionaries
> Salvation, leadership, and wisdom for the president and for all governmental officials who run this country and all other countries.

Now, Lord, we pray for three people who have sent in prayer requests:

Name: Cecil
rejuvenate his relationship with You, baptize him with the Holy Ghost and please renew his marriage

Name: Sherette
for Neichelle and Lanten’s chemotherapy to go well, that he would be healed

Name: Shanquetta
for her family to get a decent housing situation and not be homeless; for her husband to keep the faith and remain strong; for strength for her three brothers and mother

—-

Holy Father God, we pray for the following people who have accepted you into their hearts. We pray, Lord, that you would confirm them in the faith and have them grow in the faith to become the Holy Spirit-filled Christians that you want them to be. We pray specifically for —-

Suryoday
Richard
Peter

Now, Lord we pray for the following people who have been saved for a while but who have recommitted their lives to You. We rejoice with them in this decision and pray that they will keep their commitments to you and be strengthened in the faith. We pray specifically for —-

Subodh
Bobbi
Daimi

***

Now, if you are listening today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, allow me to show you how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time,

Remember, friend, Pray, Think, Do! God Bless You!

Presidential Hopeful Tom Steyer on Faith, Climate Change and Who Goes to Heaven

Presidential Hopeful Tom Steyer on Faith, Climate Change and Who Goes to Heaven

(RNS) — Billionaire businessman-turned-climate-activist Tom Steyer has emerged as an unexpected player in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, recently polling among the top contenders in South Carolina. Known for his environmental advocacy, Steyer, like other candidates, has made a point of referencing his faith often while on the campaign trail — and even referred to religious activists while on the debate stage.

Still, less is known about Steyer’s personal approach to matters divine. He spoke with Religion News Service to discuss his faith, how it intersects with his policy agenda, and the overlap between religion and politics in the United States. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

You had an interview with The New York Times recently in which they misunderstood your religious history, so I want to give you a chance to clear this up: Can you tell me a little bit about your faith journey?

I don’t know what made me do it, (but) somewhere in my early thirties I had sort of a midlife crisis, finding God as an adult … It could’ve had to do with having kids. At the time I just felt, like, “Wow.” I also had an Episcopal priest who is a good friend of mine and started going to her service with our family. So that was serendipitous.

I think it really had to do with, at some level, becoming an adult and taking responsibility for…

'I Don't Want to Stop Fighting for my Christian Values': Swiss Airline Drops Christian Chocolate Supplier

Swiss Airlines will stop supplying their passengers with sweet treats made by the Christian chocolate manufacturer Läderach.

Läderach has supplied the airline with boxes of chocolate for over 10 years. The carrier dropped the maker of premium chocolates back in November and the candy will be phased out by April 2020, according to Life Site News.

Swiss magazine Beobachter reported that Swiss Airlines employs a significant number of homosexuals, which goes against Läderach’s core beliefs.

The company has a long history of making luxury Swiss chocolate, but also advocates for pro-life rights and marriage between a man and woman.

CEO Johannes Läderach took over for his father, Jürg, in 2018. Jürg Läderach has been the president of the Swiss branch of Christianity for Today (cft). The organization campaigns for protection of life and education shaped by Christian values.

Jürg Läderach is treasurer for the anti-abortion March for Life association and Johannes also serves on the board for cft.

“I understand it if people value a woman’s right to choose more than an unborn child’s right to life. But I ask for understanding for my opinion,” Johannes said. I’m allowed to have a different opinion.”

There have been “acts of vandalism” reported at seven Läderach stores.

“I accept that my opinions provoke resistance. But it’s not acceptable that employees have to live in fear. Business continued to grow in 2019, but we have customers who no longer buy from us. However, new customers came into the shop, who were sorry that a conflict was being played out on the back of the employees,” Johannes said.

Despite the negative publicity, Läderach said that he’s not going to change his views or turn his back on Christian organizations.

“I don’t want to stop fighting for my Christian values just because we’re having success as a company,” he said. “Ultimately what counts is not how much profit we make but whether we stand by our convictions.”

The recent move by Swiss Airlines has provoked many to comment on social media.

Catholic State Advocate tweeted, “Have you heard of this fabulous chocolate company….dropped by @FlySWISS for their prolife views. You know what to do people…buy #Laderach.”

6 States Sue Trump Admin. to Restore Obamacare’s ‘Hidden’ Abortion Fee

6 States Sue Trump Admin. to Restore Obamacare’s ‘Hidden’ Abortion Fee

A coalition of six states and the District of Columbia filed suit against the Trump administration in federal court last week, asserting that a new HHS billing requirement under Obamacare violates state sovereignty and creates unnecessary “barriers to abortion coverage.”

In December, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a new rule requiring insurance plans within Obamacare’s state-based exchanges to issue separate bills to enrollees – one for the monthly premium and one for abortion coverage, if applicable.

The Trump administration said the new rule “aligns federal regulations with the statutory requirements” of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. The pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List in December said the new rule enforces the plain language of the law and blocks Obamacare’s “hidden abortion surcharge.”

But the six states and the District of Columbia say the new rule exceeds what is allowed under the text of the law. The six states are California, New York, Maine, Maryland, Oregon and Vermont. The lawsuit says the Trump administration “issued an onerous and unnecessary regulation designed to restrict women’s constitutionally protected reproductive rights by creating barriers to abortion coverage.”

“This new rule is just another Trump Administration attack on women and…

Church of England Apologizes for Saying Only Married Heterosexuals Should Have Sex

The archbishops of Canterbury and York have apologized after the Church of England (CofE) recently announced biblical guidelines for sexuality that said only heterosexual married couples should have sex.

The Belfast Telegraph reports pastoral guidance was issued to CofE clergy last week after a change in UK law that allows straight couples to get married in a civil ceremony instead of a traditional marriage ceremony usually officiated by a parish priest or pastor.

The church’s statement released last week said:

“With opposite sex civil partnerships, and with those for same-sex couples, the church’s teaching on sexual ethics remains unchanged.

For Christians, marriage, that is the lifelong union between a man and a woman, contracted with the making of vows, remains the proper context for sexual activity.

In its approach to civil partnerships the Church seeks to uphold that standard, to affirm the value of committed, sexually abstinent friendships and to minister sensitively and pastorally to those Christians who conscientiously decide to order their lives differently.”

The House of Bishops also released a pastoral statement, adding, “Sexual relationships outside heterosexual marriage are regarded as falling short of God’s purposes for human beings.”

The archbishops Justin Welby and John Sentamu apologized for issuing the guidance.

“We as Archbishops, alongside the bishops of the Church of England, apologize and take responsibility for releasing a statement last week which we acknowledge has jeopardized trust,” Welby and Sentamu said in a statement.

“We are very sorry and recognize the division and hurt this has caused,” they said.

As society’s views have become more liberal, the church has struggled with how it addresses LGBT rights.

The Telegraph reports the CofE is conducting a “major study” on human sexuality which is to be published later this year.

Welby and Sentamu said they were committed to the study called Living in Love and Faith.

The CofE allows clergy to be in homosexual civil partnerships if they are sexually abstinent.

PODCAST: Yes, There Really Is A Place Called Hell (Gospel Light Minute X #421) (with Daniel Whyte III)

Yes, There Really Is A Place Called Hell (GLMX #421)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #421 titled, “Yes, There Really Is A Place Called Hell” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Surprisingly, polls show that over the past few decades, belief in the existence of hell has increased by a significant margin. However, the number of people who believe they are going to hell has dropped dramatically. How is it that even though more people now claim to believe in hell, fewer people think they will end up there? Does this discrepancy provide an insight into the spiritual condition of the world today?

I believe these results reflect the growing popularity of ideas such as, “God is a God of love—He would never send anyone to hell,” and “I’ve done enough good in my life that even if hell exists, I’m not worried about going there.” These are two very dangerous misconceptions, and are clearly contrary to what the Bible teaches regarding these matters.

Is there really a place called hell? Yes. Jesus often spoke of hell in Luke 12:5, saying: “Fear [God], which … hath power to cast into hell”. Hell is described as a place of “everlasting punishment” where “the fire is not quenched”.

Will God really cast people into hell? Yes. The Bible states in Revelation 20:15, “Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Can good works keep a person from hell? No. The Bible states in Romans 3:20,23 , “By the deeds of the law [good works] there shall no flesh be justified in His sight…. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.

These Scriptures reveal the often-ignored truth regarding God’s character and the required judgment of sin. Yes, God is a God of love. However, He is also a perfectly holy and righteous God, which means He cannot simply overlook sin. The penalty which He has pronounced on sin must be paid. The Bible says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death”. To die in one’s sins will mean eternal separation from God in hell, which was not made for man, but for the devil and his angels).

If you think God loves us so much that He will intervene on our behalf, you’re right—and He already has. The Bible says in Romans 5:8 that “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. God demonstrated His incredible, matchless love for us by sending Jesus, His own Son, to become our substitute, to suffer in our place. The Bible says He [Jesus Christ] “bare our sins in His own body on the tree” and “redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us”. God then raised Him from the dead, showing His satisfaction with the price that Jesus paid.

Now the wonderful message is, the Bible says in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Salvation from sin and deliverance from hell is offered freely to all who believe in Jesus—to all who trust His finished work on the cross as payment for their debt of sins.

In the day of judgment, the question will not be about the reality of hell, or about God’s righteousness, or about your sinfulness—all of those things will be apparent; the question will be, “Have you trusted Jesus as your Saviour?” It is as plain as this: The Bible states in John 3:36, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him”.

If you think that you can reject God’s free and full salvation offered through Jesus Christ and yet somehow escape His necessary, righteous judgment of sin, you are sadly mistaken. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”. The Bible says in Hebrews 2:3, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?”.

The price that God has paid to provide salvation for you proves that sin is not a trivial matter with Him, and that it must be dealt with. Accept God’s loving provision of pardon—turn to Jesus Christ today, trusting Him as your personal Saviour.

Eternity! Eternity!
Where will you be in eternity?
‘Tis heaven or hell for you and me,
Now make your choice, which shall it be?

If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.

U.S., 17 Other Countries Launch First-Ever International Religious Freedom Alliance

U.S., 17 Other Countries Launch First-Ever International Religious Freedom Alliance

In one of the first international efforts to champion religious freedom, leaders from the United States and several other countries will gather in Washington D.C. this week for the first meeting of the new International Religious Freedom Alliance.

The alliance falls under the leadership of U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback, as reported by The Christian Post.

“I have not seen this type of organization or push on a human rights that I am aware of before,” said Brownback. “This is the first effort really to get a group of nations that will be the activist on a particular human right to try to champion and pursue that cause more aggressively.

“We will be looking at things we can work collectively on and [how] we can push for religious freedom efforts around the world. We are excited about the countries and their enthusiasm.”

So far, 17 countries have confirmed their membership to the alliance, though Brownback hopes that number rises. The names of the countries have yet to be disclosed.

Requirements for membership are high, according to Brownback. The alliance welcomes countries who have shown a strong commitment to religious freedom in their history.

“The United States pushes [religious freedom] but we need other allies to push it too,” Brownback said. “The fortunate thing is that it isn’t going to be just us. It is…

The grass on which the Super Bowl was played: The power of unseen service

Super Bowl LIV is now over, with the Chiefs’ victory consigned to history. So is the field on which the game was played.

Miami Gardens’ Hard Rock Stadium hosted the event. To build the field on which some of the sport’s greatest stars would play, they installed a new carpet of fresh grass. It was an extra-thick layer of sod that weighed roughly 660 tons.

The manager of the company that grew the turf said, “We
try for it to be strong enough to withstand weather and 330-pound linemen. We
want it to be bulletproof.” The company’s owner added: “We can’t put
a guy making $30 million on a field that will fall apart.”

The turf cost $225,000 to grow, not including transportation
and installation. It was delivered to Miami in 660 rolls on thirty trucks.

By now, however, the field is gone. The company went in at 1 a.m. Monday morning to remove the turf. A portion of it will be used at a horse farm; the remainder will become filler at a plant nursery.

Why the rush?

So a tennis court and stadium could be built on the field.

Watching the Super Bowl along with 100 million other people,
I had no idea that the field was such a story. But without a turf that could
withstand the game, the halftime show, and everything else that transpired, the
experience would obviously have been significantly different.

The Super Bowl turf is also a parable, pointing to the fact that those we cannot see often change the world we can.

The power of unseen service

Our culture celebrates musicians who perform at games and in concerts, but, without the sound crew and technical staff, we could not hear the music they produce.

We venerate movie stars, but without the film crews that make their movies, we would never see their performances.

We fly the world on airplanes with little thought for the maintenance staff that make our flights safe.

We travel on roads paved by unseen workers and live in homes built by carpenters we…

PODCAST: Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening #17 (with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening podcast. This is Episode #17.

Charles Spurgeon was a prominent English Particular Baptist preacher. He was very influential among the Christians of various denominations during his age and even today, and is commonly called the “Prince of Preachers”. After some time of alternately searching for God and running from God, he had a powerful encounter which led him to give his life to Christ. Spurgeon was only 16 when he preached his first sermon and he began publishing books shortly afterward. At the time of his death, he had preached nearly 3,600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, sayings, anecdotes, illustrations and devotions. Spurgeon said, “encouraging thoughts are like honey to the heart”, and wrote this devotional in hopes that its uplifting messages for each day of the year would bring comfort and refreshment to our walk with God. He was inspired by Isaiah 50:4 which reads, “He wakeneth morning by morning. He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned” and Psalm 63:5-6 which says, “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches.”

Jeremiah 31:33 reads: “But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Christian! here is all thou canst require. To make thee happy thou wantest something that shall satisfy thee; and is not this enough? If thou canst pour this promise into thy cup, wilt thou not say, with David, “My cup runneth over; I have more than heart can wish”? When this is fulfilled, “I am thy God”, art thou not possessor of all things? Desire is insatiable as death, but he who filleth all in all can fill it. The capacity of our wishes who can measure? But the immeasurable wealth of God can more than overflow it. I ask thee if thou art not complete when God is thine? Dost thou want anything but God? Is not his all-sufficiency enough to satisfy thee if all else should fail? But thou wantest more than quiet satisfaction; thou desirest rapturous delight. Come, soul, here is music fit for heaven in this thy portion, for God is the Maker of Heaven. Not all the music blown from sweet instruments, or drawn from living strings, can yield such melody as this sweet promise, “I will be their God.” Here is a deep sea of bliss, a shoreless ocean of delight; come, bathe thy spirit in it; swim an age, and thou shalt find no shore; dive throughout eternity, and thou shalt find no bottom. “I will be their God.” If this do not make thine eyes sparkle, and thy heart beat high with bliss, then assuredly thy soul is not in a healthy state. But thou wantest more than present delights—thou cravest something concerning which thou mayest exercise hope; and what more canst thou hope for than the fulfilment of this great promise, “I will be their God”? This is the masterpiece of all the promises; its enjoyment makes a heaven below, and will make a heaven above. Dwell in the light of thy Lord, and let thy soul be always ravished with his love. Get out the marrow and fatness which this portion yields thee. Live up to thy privileges, and rejoice with unspeakable joy.

PRAY.

Thank you for listening to the Morning and Evening podcast. If you do not know the Lord as your Savior, here is how you can be saved from Hell and walk with the Lord morning and evening until you go to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. PODCAST: The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #402: Amos 1:1 (with Daniel Whyte III)

This is Daniel Whyte III with The Scripture & The Sense Podcast #402, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Amos 1:1.

The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

________

That was Amos 1:1. Now here is the sense of it.

The Matthew Henry Commentary reads:

God employed a shepherd, a herdsman, to reprove and warn the people. Those to whom God gives abilities for his services, ought not to be despised for their origin, or their employment. Judgments are denounced against the neighbouring nations, the oppressors of God’s people. The number of transgressions does not here mean that exact number, but many: they had filled the measure of their sins, and were ripe for vengeance. The method in dealing with these nations is, in part, the same, yet in each there is something peculiar. In all ages this bitterness has been shown against the Lord’s people. When the Lord reckons with his enemies, how tremendous are his judgments!

The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

These are the words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa, a town directly south of Jerusalem. These sayings or messages resulted from what he saw concerning Israel. They were delivered to the Northern Kingdom two years before the earthquake, during the prosperous reigns of Uzziah in Judah and Jeroboam in Israel. (For a discussion of the prophet, the date, and Kings Uzziah and Jeroboam, see the Introduction.)

Thank you for listening to the Scripture & The Sense Podcast. Remember to read the Word of God each and every day and pray without ceasing to God for wisdom to understand it and apply it to your life. Most importantly, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Please stay tuned for a complete presentation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can get your soul saved from Hell to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die. May God bless you and keep you is my prayer.
