Outrage as rugby star links Australian wildfires to God’s wrath

Folau, who was sacked by Rugby Australia (RA) in May for posting controversial comments on social media, described the fires as a “little taste of God’s judgement”.

Wildfires have raged across eastern Australia in recent weeks destroying hundreds of homes and killing six people.

Speaking to members of Sydney’s Truth of Jesus Christ Church on Sunday, the former Wallabies player implied the natural disaster was an act of judgement by God following the nation’s recent decision to pass laws on abortion and same-sex marriage.

“God’s word says for a man and a woman to be together, one man and one woman in the covenant of marriage to be together.

“Abortion – it’s now okay to murder and kill unborn children and they deem that to be okay.

“Look how rapid these bushfires, these droughts, all these things have come in a short period of time, do you think it’s a coincidence or not?

“God is speaking to you guys – Australia, you need to repent and take these laws and turn it back into following what is right by God,” Folau said.

Australian Prime Minister and Christian, Scott Morrison has condemned Folau’s remarks as “appallingly insensitive”.

Morrsion told reporters on Monday: “He is a free citizen, he can say whatever he likes but that doesn’t mean he can’t have regard to the grievance [and] offence this would have caused to the people whose homes have burnt down.”

Folau is…

Pro-Life Organization May Have to Pay $1.6 Million for Misuse of Taxpayer Money

Pro-Life Organization May Have to Pay $1.6 Million for Misuse of Taxpayer Money

An evangelical pro-life organization in Texas may be forced to pay a million and a half dollars in fines for violations.

According to Relevant Magazine, the Heidi Group, the pro-life organization contracted by the state to provide women’s health service resources, may have misused taxpayer funds.

The Heidi Group also overpaid subcontractors and operated without oversight, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of Inspector General said.

In 2016, the Heidi Group was awarded a $1.6 million contract with the state of Texas to provide women’s healthcare resources to low-income residents. The Heidi Group was tasked with building those health care resources after state laws forced the closure of women’s health clinics that violated Texas’ abortion law.

The Heidi Group said it would provide women’s health resources to about 51,000 low-income women in the state. A state audit, however, found that the work by the organization only helped about 2,300 women.

In a separate $5.1 million contract with the state, the Health and Human Services Commission said the organization only helped about 1,000 people. The contract was for the state’s Family Planning Program which was supposed to help some 18,000 people.

“The difference in the number of recipients served and the funds expended implies that the Heidi Group mismanaged grant funds under…

Charity Commission tackles financial concerns at Pentecostal denomination with 90 UK churches

The Christ Embassy church denomination, founded by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has oversight for 90 churches across the country.

An inquiry was opened into the charity, following a number of concerns about the use of charitable funds on large connected party payments.

The Charity Commission’s investigation found a number of informal grants and payments had been made to affiliated organisations.

Between 2009 – 2011, the charity gave over £1.2 million to a broadcasting company, Loveworld Television Ministry, which was wholly owned by a trustee of the charity.

Loveworld was also given use of a £1.8 million property purchased by the charity, free of charge for six years.

It is not unlawful to make positive collaborations to linked companies, according to the regulator, so long as they are appropriately managed.

The inquiry found a lack of formal contracts or appropriate record keeping, and a lack of evidence of conflicts of interest being appropriately managed as well as poor financial management.

Two members of the charity’s board of trustees resigned after the regulator took action to have them removed upon concluding serious misconduct and/or mismanagement had taken place.

The Commission also took temporary and protective action by freezing bank accounts, to protect over £600,000 of charitable funds, and appointing an interim manager who took over the running of the…

Teacher Defends Drag Queen Makeup Class: Parents ‘Don’t Know What’s Best’ for Their Children

Teacher Defends Drag Queen Makeup Class: Parents ‘Don’t Know What’s Best’ for Their Children

A Texas school district has come under fire for allowing a drag queen to teach makeup to a high school cosmetology class.

Though school administrators communicated the event, several parents were concerned that the event happened in the first place, according to local reports. The man, who dresses as a woman, goes by the name of Lynn Adonis-Deveaux, though his real name is unknown.

“I’ve got a problem when somebody with a false name enters a school and has advertised himself as an adult exotic dancer for men…Nobody would be allowed in a school under those circumstances,” said Conroe ISD trustee Dale Inman.

But teachers within the surrounding school district believe that parents shouldn’t have as loud of a voice when it comes to these issues.

In a post on Facebook, Willis ISD teacher Anthony Lane said, “I believe that raising a child is the responsibility of the community, and that parents should not have the final say. Let’s be honest, some of you don’t know what is best for your kids. I have learned a ton about what is best for [my son] Ethan from his teachers, not the other way around.

“Parents believe they should be able to storm the school in the name of political and religious beliefs if something happens in the school that they are morally opposed to. They forget that we make a promise to prepare their children…

Vicar speaks of ‘journey of forgiveness’ following murder of niece

In a statement submitted to the sentencing hearing of her killers, Dave Chesney said conducting her funeral was the hardest thing he had ever done.

He also spoke of his struggle watching the defendants’ conduct in court.

“It had been weeks of denial and blame all for the intention of self preservation,” he said. “We are a broken family still coming to terms with the loss of a beautiful soul.”

Earlier this month, a jury found Svenson Ong-a-Kwie, 19, and a 17-year-old boy guilty of murder after less than six hours of deliberations.

Ong-a-Kwie has been given a life sentence with a minimum term of 26 years while the other boy was jailed for at least 18 years.

Chesney was killed on the evening of 1st March in what was described as a case of mistaken identity.

During sentencing, the court heard how one of Jodie’s killers, Svenson Ong-a-Kwie, 19, had convictions for possessing and supplying drugs.

He admitted being in breach of a six-week suspended sentence for handling stolen jewellery dating back to October last year.

The 17-year-old defendant had previous convictions for possessing a screwdriver, actual bodily harm, possession of cannabis as well as aggravated vehicle taking.

Jodie’s father Peter Chesney told how he had just got a job in the City as a salesman when his life was “destroyed”.

From being ready to “take on the world” with a promising career, he was instead…

‘God Always Has a Plan,’ Says Alabama Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after Devastating Injury

‘God Always Has a Plan,’ Says Alabama Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after Devastating Injury

Alabama star quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Tua Tagovailoa suffered a devastating season-ending injury Saturday, but stayed optimistic and delivered a faith-centric perspective to fans on social media.

“Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes! God always has a plan,” Tagovailoa wrote on Twitter Saturday night, hours after he was injured.

Tagovailoa suffered a dislocated hip – a rare injury for an athlete – while being tackled during a game against Mississippi State. His recovery is expected to last at least 6-12 months, according to a surgeon interviewed by CBS Sports, although it could threaten his career if severe enough. The surgeon did not know all the details of the injury but said the injury is more common in automobile accidents.

He was expected to be a high NFL draft pick in 2020 if he chose to bypass his senior season. He is a junior.

Tagovailoa is known for his Christian faith. The eye black on each side of his face is shaped like a cross. His social media accounts lists 1 Corinthians 2:9, which says, “‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’ — the things God has prepared for those who love him.”

Pope Francis accepts invitation to visit Cyprus

President Nicos Anastasiades made the announcement after talks with the pontiff in the Vatican on Monday.

In 2020, Cyprus will mark the 60th year of its independence from British colonial rule and a decade since Pope Benedict XVI travelled to the island, the first pontiff to do so.

Cyprus was the initial stop on Saint Paul’s first journey to spread Christianity in the 1st Century AD and he converted the island’s then Roman governor Sergius Paulus to the faith.

Cyprus is also linked with Saint Lazarus, the man who according to Christian scriptures was resurrected by Jesus.

Fearing persecution, Lazarus fled to Cyprus and was appointed a bishop.

Ohio House Passes Bill Protecting Students’ Religious Freedom, Expression

Ohio House Passes Bill Protecting Students’ Religious Freedom, Expression

Last week, the Ohio House approved a measure to protect student rights to “religious expression in public schools, including prayer, school assignments, artwork and clothing,” according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Republican Rep. Tim Ginter, who sponsored the bill, believes the legislation clarifies freedom of religion on public school campuses. It is “inclusive legislation that will positively enhance liberties,” he said.

But critics of the bill believe it’s unnecessary. “I appreciate the sentiment,” said Rep. Phillip Robinson (D). “But we already protect religious expression.”

The law, which still must travel through the Republican-led Senate, will give student religious groups the same access to school facilities as secular groups. It will also lift bans that limit religious expression to lunch or non-instructional times and allow students to speak on religion in their homework or artwork.

According to Faithwire, this provision would allow students to embrace creationism in their science classrooms instead of adhering to evolution.

The interpretations of the bill, however, have been contested. According to the Washington Post, chief lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio fears the bill would allow students to answer “incorrectly” based on religious beliefs than science and not be penalized.

However, Charles Haynes,…

Fast food restaurant vows to no longer support Christian charities following LGBT fallout

The company’s previously donated millions to charities such as the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

But the chain has been criticised for its perceived anti-LGBT stance along with accusations that those charities oppose same-sex marriage.

Last month, the first UK branch in Reading was told it wouldn’t have its lease renewed after a backlash while a second store in Scotland has also faced opposition.

Owners now say they will now focus on three initiatives with one charity for each: education, homelessness and hunger.

Speaking to Bisnow, Chick-fil-A President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Tassopoulos said: “There’s no question we know that, as we go into new markets, we need to be clear about who we are.

“There are lots of articles and newscasts about Chick-fil-A, and we thought we needed to be clear about our message.”

The Chick-fil-A Foundation is reported to have donated $115K to the Salvation Army and $1.65M to the FCA in 2018.

The restaurant says it wants to ensure all customers feel welcome.

Police Officer Shot in the Chest Says Bible in His Pocket Saved His Life

Police Officer Shot in the Chest Says Bible in His Pocket Saved His Life

A Bolivian police officer who was shot in the chest during civil unrest over the ousting of Bolivia’s now-former president Evo Morales said he was saved by a Bible tucked into his left breast pocket.

“Yes, it was a miracle,” the unnamed officer, a devout Christian, told Bolivian media.

Pictures of the Bible appeared in local media and on a Spanish-language Facebook post chronicling the incident. The front of the blue Bible shows a small hole about the size of a pencil eraser. An exit hole on the back cover is larger and shows several pieces of its pages torn and dangling from the damage. The officer also carried brass knuckles in the pocket, which was broken in half by the bullet.

Oscar Gutierrez, head of the Special Force of the Fight Against Crime of Santa Cruz, said the officer was part of a contingent of law enforcement trying to restore order in the town of Yapacani on Wednesday when he was “shot by a projectile” believed to be a 9mm round.

“He is a young officer whose life was saved miraculously, he was shot by a projectile,” Gutierrez declared, adding the patrolman “had a Bible that stopped the projectile.”

The police supervisor said the uninjured officer was taken to a Santa Cruz hospital for routine tests and was expected to return to work soon.

The skirmishes in Yapacani were part of nationwide protests following an apparent…
