Singer Selena Gomez, who just released a new single this week, took to Twitter Tuesday not to promote her latest project, but to share about her faith in Jesus. 

“Literally just laying down and thanking Jesus,” she posted before going on to reference a difficult season without shedding light on the circumstances.

“Where my father has taken me and placing me is exactly where I am meant to be,” she added. “He said to me ‘Selena hold on, I hurt when you hurt. I cry when you cry but I will NEVER, EVER leave your side. Work with me, walk with me and watch how I do it.’ He always surprises me and I re-fall in love with Him every single time.”

3. He Is a Staunch Advocate for the Separation of Church and State

According to a supporters’ website, Feel the Bern, “Bernie Sanders supports people’s right to freely congregate, practice, and express their faith. To protect both personal religious freedoms and civic equality, Bernie advocates for the separation of church and state, which allows Americans to honor diversity, respect personal autonomy, and voluntarily choose to practice or abstain from religious faith.”

The site said Sanders also believes “public laws ought to be independent of any one particular faith to maximize religious freedoms for all.” But those protections, in his view, end when it comes to perceived discrimination.

“Religious freedom is not a right to discriminate,” according to Feel the Bern.

That philosophy drove Sanders to vote against the 2001 Community Solutions Act, “which allows federal funds to go to religious organizations that proselytize while providing social services and that engage in employment discrimination based on religion.”

He also opposed the 2014 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, which ruled business owners cannot be forced to provide contraceptive coverage through the Affordable Care Act if doing so violates their religious beliefs.

An 81-year-old missionary who rescued hundreds of North Koreans and told them the Good News of Christ retired this year – and wishes he was healthy enough to go back. 

“I want to help them more,” Pastor John Yoon told KNKX during a retirement ceremony at New Vision Church in Lynnwood, Wash.

Yoon was born in the area that is now North Korea and was 12 when the Korean War broke out in the 1950s. He fled to the south but got separated from his parents and never saw them again.

His life was forever changed one night after the war when he visited a prayer house to see if God was real, KNKX reported. 

“As I was praying one night, from heaven this big fire fell upon my back,” Yoon said. “The spirit of fire was upon me, it was burning me. At that moment I really knew that God was alive.”

Yoon became a missionary, serving first in Russia and China before hearing about the needs in North Korean, where Christianity is illegal. He returned to the region and organized an underground railroad. The goal was to ferry North Korean defectors to places deep into China, and then to Thailand or Mongolia, where they’d be safe. Such an action was dangerous for him – he could be jailed – and for the defectors, who could be executed.

Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf promised this week to veto any bill that prohibits abortion after an unborn baby’s heartbeat can be detected, saying it runs counter to science and might harm the economy.

His pledge came the same week that state Sen. Doug Mastriano and state Rep. Stephanie Borowicz – both Republicans – introduced a bill that would prohibit abortions if a fetal heartbeat is present. Republicans control both chambers. 

“Let me be clear: I will veto any abortion ban that is put on my desk,” Wolf said in a statement according to the Hill. “The latest bill, a six-week abortion ban, defies all practical understanding of modern women’s health care. These policies run counter to the notion of individual freedom and lack a sound scientific basis. 

“Further,” he said, “as we have seen in other states, these policies are detrimental to efforts to attract and retain businesses, entrepreneurs and workers.”

The bill says the state has an “interest in protection of the unborn child.” It also asserts that a “fetal heartbeat has become a key medical predictor that an unborn individual will reach live birth.”

Borowicz, a freshman state representative and a mother of three sons, said she was proud to sponsor the legislation.
