Chaplains across UK help Thomas cook passengers

The company’s shutdown has caused 150,000 UK holidaymakers to be brought home by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), over two weeks in a flight programme costing £100 million.

Just over half the Thomas Cook customers who were abroad when it collapsed on Monday have been flown back to the UK.

Yesterday the CAA operated 68 flights to bring back about 15,000 passengers.

At East Midlands Airport, the Revd John Dawson and his three colleagues worked a rota to ensure that they were on hand when government-funded repatriation flights from Egypt and Spain landed. “People are really distressed: firstly, because their holidays have been cut short, and then they had to wait a long time to get on a plane home,” he said.

“They are pleased to have been repatriated, but were critical of how things were handled. They needed more help to sort out how they were getting back. Some had been delayed for up to ten hours, and weren’t getting any information. If they had known what was happening, it would have taken a lot of the heat out of the situation, but it had spoilt their holidays. They were hot and bothered, wondering what was going to happen.

“This is a holiday airport; so we are geared up for this sort of thing. We offer someone they can talk to, help with contacts, offering a phone to ring relatives. We just sit them down, give them a cup of tea, and make sure…

Pakistani Archbishop raises alarm of kidnapping and forced conversions of Christian girls

In an interview with Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need, Archbishop Sebastian Shaw of Lahore confirmed reports of abductions involving girls as young as 14, acts he condemned as “a crime”.

His comments come amid research in Pakistan’s Punjab Province stating that up to 700 girls had been abducted in one year.

He said: “Yes, [abductions of under-age girls] are happening” and he added that “there have been many kidnappings recently”.

Archbishop Shaw added: “Kidnapping is a crime. It has to be treated as one. This is the only way to stop it. The girls are usually 14, 15. The men often already have one wife. They can be 25 or older. They can be younger, more like 20.”

He believed there was a religious aspect to the kidnappings, particularly as the girls are Hindu or Christian. Yet, the archbishop did not believe it was the only explanation.

“It is lust. They think ‘she is pretty and I want her’. It is a crime. But it has a possible religious component too.”

The archbishop said that in response to the increase in abductions, Christian leaders took the problem to the police “but they were not listening” so they went straight to the government.

“We raised it with the government and they took up the matter. Along with the Islamic council, they arranged a meeting with myself and leaders from the Muslim and Hindu communities.

“I…

One of the Most Revealing Questions to Ask Your Church — Sam Rainer

Over the years, I’ve refined the types of questions I ask and the way I ask questions. Some questions don’t elicit much of a response. Other questions cause people to pause and think. Then there are the questions that get people talking. Some of the best learning experiences as a leader come when you ask a good question and listen. After twenty years of researching churches, I’ve found one question more than any other seems to get people talking.

Irishman drowns after Christian pilgrimage

An Irishman has drowned after taking a sunset dip in the sea at the end of a hike across northern Spain during a Christian pilgrimage.

The victim died after bathing in the waters of the Atlantic in the Galician town of Finisterre.

He was thought to have just completed the famous Way of Saint James, better known by pilgrims as the Camino de Santiago, shortly before his death.

The 500 mile walk starts in St Jean de Luz in France and ends in the Galician cathedral city the pilgrimage is named after.

Many who complete the five-week journey end up continuing to Cabo Finisterre, a rock-bound peninsula a five-day walk from Santiago which in Roman times was believed to be the end of the known world.

The tragedy occurred at a beach called Mar de Fora, known as being one of the most dangerous in the area because of its strong currents.

The dead man was with two female friends who raised the alarm around 8pm on Thursday after they spotted he was in difficulties in the water.

Locals are understood to have pulled him out of the sea and spent around 40 minutes trying to revive him as paramedics raced to the scene before a doctor arrived and pronounced him dead.

Deputy mayor Xan Carlos Sar told regional newspaper La Voz de Galicia: “The sea was rough and the women saw him being swept away by currents.

“The emergency services were alerted and when Civil Protection workers…

UAE’s oldest Christian site opens to public

Originally discovered in 1992, the archaeological treasure has recently opened to the public.

Named Church and Monasterv of Sir Bani Yas the site is believed to date back around 1,400 years.

“I think it’s a misconception that there is no archaeology here,” says Peter Magee, an archaeologist at the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism. “There are other sites that remain un-excavated. The archaeology here goes back 8,000 years.”

In the early nineties, the rocky infrastructure was thought to have no religious association. After further investigation, however, Christian crosses were unearthed, as was the architectural framework of a church and monastery.Architects also found items which implied that monks living in the monastery kept cattle and made good use of the sea for food. While other objects suggested they traded with their Muslim neighbours in the Arabian Gulf in the 7th and 8th century.

“At least for 100 years, there was a Christian community here and Christians and Muslims were living very peacefully side by side,” says Magee, adding that the monastery is one of the few historic Christian sites in the Gulf.

Other similar plots in the region include Saudi Arabia’s Eastern province of Jubail and two churches on Kuwait’s Failaka Island.

House Intelligence Committee Releases Declassified Whistleblower Complaint against President Trump

House Intelligence Committee Releases Declassified Whistleblower Complaint against President Trump

The House Intelligence Committee has released a declassified version of a whistleblower complaint that prompted Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to launch impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

The release of the complaint comes just before the Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire is set to testify.

In the document, the complaint said there was an “urgent concern” about President Donald Trump’s request for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to look into former Vice President Joe Biden. The complaint also advised there were concerns about call records and Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani.

“I have received information from multiple U.S. Government officials that the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election. This interference includes, among other things, pressuring a foreign country to investigate one of the President’s main domestic political rivals,” the complaint reads.

The whistleblower said “half a dozen U.S. officials” had detailed the incidents to the complaint.

In the concern over Trump’s call with President Zelensky, the report noted that “The White House officials who told me (the whistleblower) this information were deeply disturbed by what had transpired in the phone call. They…

The ‘Fastest Growing Church’ in the World Is ‘Spreading Like a Wildfire’ in Iran: New Documentary

The ‘Fastest Growing Church’ in the World Is ‘Spreading Like a Wildfire’ in Iran: New Documentary

Large numbers of Iranian Muslims are walking away from Islam and toward Christianity, a new documentary says.

According to the Frontier Alliance International Studios’ Sheep Among Wolves Volume II documentary, inside of Iran — a country where the majority of the citizens are Muslim — the “fastest-growing church” in the world is blossoming underground.

One unidentified Iranian church leader even went as far as to say that “Islam is dead” in Iran.

The church leader — who remained anonymous for their protection — asked, “What if I told you Islam is dead? What if I told you the mosques are empty inside Iran? What if I told you no one follows Islam inside of Iran? Would you believe me?”

“This is exactly what is happening inside of Iran. God is moving powerfully inside of Iran,” the church leader asserted.

The church leader also shared that they believe that Ayatollah Khomeini is “the best evangelist for Jesus.”

“The ayatollahs brought the true face of Islam to light and people discovered it was a lie … After 40 years under Islamic law — a utopia according to them — they’ve had the worst devastation in the 5,000-year history of Iran,” the leader said.

According to Fox News, the church is without buildings, property or central leadership, but still, it is steadily growing. The movement’s aim…

House Democrats Use SPLC ‘Hate Groups’ List to Argue Conservative Non-Profits Should Lose Tax-Exempt Status

House Democrats Use SPLC ‘Hate Groups’ List to Argue Conservative Non-Profits Should Lose Tax-Exempt Status

House Democrats argued last week during a Ways and Means Committee hearing that some 60 “hate groups” should have their tax-exempt status revoked.

According to Faithwire, “hate groups” identified were mainly socially conservative organizations, such as the Family Research Council, the Federation for American Immigration Reform and the American Family Association.

“It’s unacceptable that your money continues to help propagate hatred from groups like these,” the Ways and Means Committee tweeted.

The hearing, “How the Tax Code Subsidizes Hate,” included a discussion that tax-exempt status should be taken away from those groups, but House Republicans answered back that Democrats cannot choose which groups should lose their tax-exempt status.

Democrats also featured speakers who shared their stories of how those “hate groups” led to events such as mass shootings. They argued that Congress needs to push forward a legislative proposal to revoke the tax benefits from the groups. Speakers included Brandon Wolf, who survived the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando and Jeff Binkley, the father of Maura Binkley, the woman who was killed in a 2018 shooting at a yoga studio in Florida.

The “hate groups” were identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The organization has frequently come under fire itself for…

Walmart-Owned Streaming Service Introduces Movie Filtering Option for Families

Walmart-Owned Streaming Service Introduces Movie Filtering Option for Families

Walmart-owned Vudu began offering filtered streaming movies this month of more than 600 titles, allowing families to watch major films like the Marvel series without the coarse language, sexuality or excessive violence.

The announcement by Vudu came six months after a judge ruled that another streaming company – VidAngel – had violated copyright law. Although VidAngel remains in business, the judge’s ruling limits what content it can filter.

The Vudu feature, called Family Play, gives families the option of cutting out sexuality, nudity, violence, language and substance abuse. It is powered by Clearplay, a company that has been offering technology to filter movies for more than a decade.

Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council, said he was “thrilled” by Vudu’s announcement. Walmart’s involvement, he said, gives the Vudu service staying power.

“Over the past two decades, Disney and some of the other studios have sued about 14 different technology providers, either into bankruptcy or to the brink of bankruptcy, and shut down most of them,” Winter told Christian Headlines. “But now Walmart is stepping in. It understands that there is a vast marketplace in America for this type of service. It’s going to be tough for the studios to squash Walmart like a bug – as they’ve been able to successfully do to these startup…

China Is Harvesting Organs from Thousands of Persecuted People, New Report Claims

China Is Harvesting Organs from Thousands of Persecuted People, New Report Claims

In a meeting with the United Nations’ Human Rights Council on Tuesday, a member of the China Tribunal testified that the Chinese government is actively harvesting organs from persecuted persons in the country.

According to Business Insider, the China Tribunal – an independent non-profit human rights charity that is investigating the mass harvesting – claimed that the government is collecting hearts, kidneys, lungs and skin from members of banned and persecuted religious groups including Uighur Muslims and members of the Falun Gong religious group.

“Forced organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience, including the religious minorities of Falun Gong and Uighurs, has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale,” Hamid Sabi, a lawyer with the China Tribunal, said before the UN.

Sabi implored the Human Rights Council to bring an end to the forced harvesting of the marginalized people calling it “one of the worst mass atrocities of this century.”

While presenting the findings in the Tribunal’s final report from June, Sabi also testified that the group has “proof beyond a reasonable doubt” of the harvesting.

According to the final report, the group was able to collect evidence that thousands were “cut open while still alive for their kidneys, livers, hearts, lungs, cornea and skin to be removed and turned into…
