Trump administration backs Catholic nurse who says employer forced her to perform abortion

Jordan Sekulow, the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) attorney representing the nurse, told Fox News that President Trump, through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is the first president to enforce the federal law, the Church Amendment, passed by Congress in 1973.

“The Trump administration, President Trump, and Secretary Azar at HHS, is the first administration to actually enforce it against these hospitals, to actually enforce conscience protections so that nurses and doctors and medical professionals aren’t forced to perform abortions against their religious or deeply held beliefs,” Sekulow said.

On 9th May 2018, the Catholic nurse, who has asked to remain anonymous, filed a conscience and religious discrimination complaint against UVMC, contending they broke the law by forcing her to assist in an elective abortion despite making known her conscience-based objection.

The nurse allegedly thought she was assisting a miscarriage, but was later informed it was an abortion.

On Wednesday, HHS said its Office of Civil Rights (OCR) is giving UVMC, located in Burlington, Vt., 30 days to change its policies.

Sekulow said UVMC’s policy dates back to 2017, when it started to perform elective abortions, or “abortions for abortion’s sake,” after the former CEO of Planned Parenthood New England came in as a new chairman of the Board of…

Franklin Graham calls Taylor Swift’s Equality Act support ‘crushing threat to religious liberty’

The son of the late Billy Graham wrote on his Facebook page: “Shame on Taylor Swift for using her platform to try to push the socialist left’s so-called Equality Act, which has nothing to do with equality, but is about pushing the LGBTQ agenda down the throats of the American people.”

In May the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives passed sweeping new civil rights protections for LGBT Americans. The Republican-controlled Senate has yet to act, however, and supporters of the legislation – including pop star Taylor Swift – are getting frustrated.

The Equality Act, as it’s called, expands workplace, education and public accommodation protections that currently prohibit discrimination based on race, gender and disability to include sexual preference and gender identity.

Singer Taylor Swift opened the MTV awards night and performed with a colourful rendition of “You Need to Calm Down” an LGBTQ anthem that some have reported mocks Christians as uneducated and homophobic, with big gold letters on the stage that read “Equality Act.”

“This bill is the most crushing threat to religious liberty in our nation’s history,” Graham wrote. “In addition to allowing perverted men access to women’s private spaces like dressing rooms and restrooms, and allowing biological males to take over girls’ and women’s athletic competitions, this bill would do a…

John Sentamu leads Ellie Goulding’s star studded York Minster wedding

Singer, Goulding was greeted by Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, who led her into the minster.

Goulding, who was flanked by five bridesmaids and two flower girls, had arrived some 25 minutes late to the service.

Newlywed Ellie Goulding and her husband Caspar Jopling have shared a kiss on the steps of York Minster – moments after marrying in front of a star-studded congregation.

The chart-topper wore a traditional bespoke wedding gown with a veil and train designed by Natacha Ramsay-Levi for Chloe, while Mr Jopling opted for a suit from Savile Row tailors Huntsman.

The pair exited the minster after tying the knot, pausing on the steps to kiss before descending amongst a crowd of friends and family.

The 32-year-old Brit Award winner and her husband then left in the same blue Volkswagen campervan that delivered them to the service on Saturday afternoon.

Singer Katy Perry arrived with her Hollywood star boyfriend Orlando Bloom, who was in London earlier this week to promote his new Amazon series with Cara Delevingne, Carnival Row.

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice arrived with their mother Sarah, Duchess of York and were greeted by Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank – who was one of the groomsmen.

Christians take action to promote biodiversity

From today to 4th October Christians around the world, including from the Church of England will join together for the Season of Creation, a festival of prayer and community action to help protect the natural world.
An Ecumenical initiative launched in 1989, Season of Creation was given a major boost by Pope Francis in 2016 when, speaking before nearly 2 million people at the World Youth Day in Krakow, he declared 1 September an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

With devastating wildfires in the Amazon and Siberia, the hottest late August Bank Holiday on record in the UK, and global wildlife populations reported to have reduced by 60 per cent between 1970 and 2014, more and more people are being moved to action.
Under its full theme ‘The Web of Life: Biodiversity as God’s blessing’, Season of Creation 2019 encourages churches and communities to hold sustainability events, including cleaning local waterways, planting trees and allowing churchyards and other spaces to grow wild in order to encourage biodiversity.

Participants are encouraged to share images that celebrate the biodiversity around their church on social media using the hashtag #SeasonofCreation.
The Bishop of Salisbury, Nicholas Holtam a member of the Season of Creation Steering panel who also chairs the Church of England’s Environmental Working Group, said: “We love…
