Overcomer Earns Rare A+ CinemaScore, Opens in Top 5
The faith-based film Overcomer outpaced projections and opened in the Top 5 over the weekend while earning an A+ CinemaScore grade from moviegoers.
Overcomer grossed $8.14 million, placing it in third place ahead of Hobbs and Shaw ($8.068 million) and The Lion King ($8.065 million). Angel Has Fallen ($21.3 million) and Good Boys ($11.6 million) topped the chart.
It was the fourth straight Top 5 finish for the filmmaking tandem of Alex and Stephen Kendrick, whose previous movies War Room (2015),Courageous (2011) and Fireproof (2008) also opened that high. Perhaps more impressive, it was their third consecutive A+ CinemaScore rating. (War Room and Courageous also earned an A+.) CinemaScore polls moviegoers on opening night, asking them to grade films.
Only one other director — Rob Reiner — has helmed three films that earned an A+ CinemaScore grade. Alex Kendrick is the second.
Reiner’s three A+ movies were The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989) and A Few Good Men (1992).
“Overcomer has been an audience favorite from the beginning, even in our test screenings,” Rich Peluso, executive vice president of Sony’s Affirm Films, said in a statement. “Alex and Stephen Kendrick understand how to connect to the heart of a viewer and that’s one of the reasons they have been so successful.”

Abby Johnson Will Send Unplanned to Hundreds of Abortion Workers
Pro-life leader Abby Johnson will send DVDs of her recent movie Unplanned to over 800 abortion workers. The movie, based off of her book, chronicles Johnson’s journey from Planned Parenthood director to pro-life advocate.
“Hopefully [abortion workers] have a moment while watching the movie where they realize, ‘this is my story, too,” she said to EWTN News. “And we have a ministry that can help them leave. [We] can provide that transitional financial help, job resources, and can get them into a relationship with Christ to help them find healing.”
Johnson’s non-profit, And Then There Were None, has made it their mission to graciously help abortion workers exit the industry and transition to a new job.
In an email to LifeSiteNews, Johnson said her organization has the most comprehensive list of abortion clinic addresses, to which the DVDs will be sent.
“Inside the package will also be a letter from me, encouraging facility workers to watch the film as critics and to email me their thoughts to my personal email address,” she said. “Even if they hate it, I still want to hear from them.”
She plans on sending out 850 packages.

Well-Known Yale Professor Rejects Darwinism, Says Intelligent Design Is a ‘Serious’ Theory
An internationally-renowned Yale professor has ditched his belief in the theory of Darwinism, arguing that “intelligent design” should be taken more seriously.
Professor David Gelernte insisted that the theory of evolution contains a number of holes and flaws and warned the critics of intelligent design to stop attacking the theory out of a place of anti-religious sentiment.
“Darwin’s theory predicts that new life forms evolve gradually from old ones in a constantly branching, spreading tree of life,” the professor wrote in a paper titled, “Giving Up Darwin.” “Those brave new Cambrian creatures must therefore have had Precambrian predecessors, similar but not quite as fancy and sophisticated. They could not have all blown out suddenly, like a bunch of geysers.”
Gelernte added that, “each must have had a closely related predecessor, which must have had its own predecessors.”
Chief among a plethora of serious scientific doubts, the esteemed professor highlighted the relative impossibility of creating a stable protein. “Immense is so big, and tiny is so small, that neo-Darwinian evolution is — so far — a dead loss.
