Russia Sends Its First Humanoid Robot Fedor Into Space – Urban Christian News
Russia on Thursday launched an unmanned rocket carrying a life-size humanoid robot that will spend 10 days learning to assist astronauts on the International Space Station.
Named Fedor, short for Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research, the robot is the first ever sent up by Russia.
Fedor blasted off in a Soyuz MS-14 spacecraft at 6:38 am Moscow time (0338 GMT) from Russia’s Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The Soyuz is set to dock with the space station on Saturday and stay till September 7.
Soyuz ships are normally manned on such trips, but on Thursday no humans are travelling in order to test a new emergency rescue system.
Instead of cosmonauts, Fedor, also known as Skybot F850, was strapped into a specially adapted pilot’s seat, with a small Russian flag in hand.
“Let’s go. Let’s go,” the robot was heard saying during launch, repeating the famous phrase used by first man in space Yuri Gagarin.
The silvery anthropomorphic robot stands 1.80 metres (5 foot 11 inches) tall and weighs 160 kilogrammes (353 pounds).
Fedor has Instagram and Twitter accounts with posts saying it is learning new skills such as opening a bottle of water. In the station, it will trial those manual skills in very low gravity.
“That’s connecting and disconnecting electric cables (and) using standard items, from a screwdriver and a spanner to a fire extinguisher,” the Russian space agency’s director for prospective programmes and science, Alexander Bloshenko, said in televised comments ahead of the launch.
“The first stage of in-flight experiments went according to the flight…

Father Faces Human Rights Complaint for Asking Gender of Babysitter
A Canadian father may have violated his province’s human rights act by asking the age and gender of a potential babysitter, according to legal documents in the case.
The single father, known only as Todd P. in the documents, is being investigated by the Alberta Human Rights Commission after a complaint was filed against him in 2017 by the applicant, who claims the father violated the Alberta Human Rights Act.
The dad had placed a classified ad on the Canadian website Kijiji.ca on Aug. 31, 2017, seeking a babysitter for the next night, when he was set to have dinner with a friend. His children at the time were eight and five.
Among the applicants was one that said the person knew CPR, first aid, had a clean criminal record and had seven years of experience taking care of children. The father replied by asking the person’s age and gender, and the applicant responded by writing: “I’m male and 28 years old.” But when the father’s dinner plans fell through, he stopped corresponding with the individual, who was one of numerous applicants.
On Sept. 1, the potential babysitter filed a formal complaint with the Alberta Human Rights Commission, claiming age and gender discrimination within section 8 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, which bans discrimination based on several categories, including age and gender.
The Albert Human Rights Commission has not dismissed…

Georgia: ‘Killing a Living Unborn Child Is Not Health Care’
In the ongoing fight for life in Georgia, lawmakers have asked a federal judge to maintain the state’s abortion ban, set to take effect on Jan. 1, arguing that abortion is not healthcare, the Associated Press reports.
“it is well-settled that ‘a fetus is a living organism within the womb, whether or not it is viable outside the womb,” Republican Attorney General Chris Carr argued in his motion. “Accordingly, a State may properly recognize that an unborn child is alive even before ‘viability’ and—consistent with its power to protect unborn life—may prohibit the killing of that child by restricting certain types of pre-viability abortions.”
The ban restricts abortions after a heartbeat is detected, which is usually around six weeks of pregnancy. It was signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp earlier this year and has since faced several lawsuits from organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.
Abortion activists believe the law is in direct conflict to Roe v. Wade and women have the constitutional right to an abortion.
“[The lawsuit] ensures that everyone has the freedom to make their own health care decisions without politicians looking over their shoulder and the freedom to decide for themselves when to start or expand a family,” Sean Young, ACLU of Georgia’s legal director said.
But state lawyers rebutted the lawsuit, claiming that…

The Amazon Rainforest Is on Fire and Burning at an Alarming Rate
Brazil’s Amazon forest is burning at an alarming rate.
According to CNBC, the Latin American rainforest has seen an 84% increase in wildfires this year. Using satellites, the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) indicated the uptick with more than 70,000 fires this year. This is the highest number since records began in 2013.
Many experts estimate that more than 1 1/2 soccer fields of rainforest are burning every minute of every day. The rainforest provides 20% of the oxygen for the Earth’s atmosphere and is seen as key weapon in the fight against global warming, CNN reports.
People all the way in Sao Paulo, more than 1,700 miles away from the rainforest, are feeling the effects. Earlier this week, the sky turned back in the middle of the afternoon, covering the sun with smoke and ash.
“Just a little alert to the world: the sky randomly turned dark today in Sao Paulo, and meteorologists believe it’s smoke form the fires burning *thousands* of kilometers away, in Rondonia or Paraguay. Imagine how much has to be burning to create that much smoke(!)” New York Times reporter Shannon Sims tweeted.
She continued her tweets with a photo of a bottle filled with black liquid: “There’s more: some Sao Paulo residents collected rain yesterday when the sky turned dark (from a combination of a cold front & forest fires thousands of miles away). This is what it…

Pastor Warns of Vision Where Sacrifice Is Made in the ‘Demonic World’ to Make Trump ‘Bloodiest President’
Francis Myles, pastor of the Lovefest Church in Arizona, says he had a vision that the “demonic world” has a strategy to make President Donald Trump a “scapegoat for every bloodshed that happens in America until 2020.”
According to the Christian Post, Myles told “The Jim Bakker Show” that God told him that the “demonic world” has made a sacrifice to stop Trump from winning the 2020 Presidential Election.
“I had a vision that shook me, pastor Jim, to the core of my being,” Myles said. “I had this vision before the mass shootings, it was about maybe seven days ago. I was in prayer in my house and spending time with the Lord when all of a sudden, I had a clear cut, open vision.”
He said in his vision he saw a bloody, innocent goat, and God told him that the vision was about the “battle for 2020.”
“The Lord said to me, this strategy that the enemy is about to use against Trump to stop him from having another four years is a double-edged strategy. This time it’s coming from the underworld and the political establishment,” he said.
“A sacrifice has been made in the demonic world and the new strategy is going to be to make Donald Trump bloody, the bloodiest president in American history,” he added. “They are going to make him the scapegoat for every bloodshed that happens in America until…
