School Punishes 6th Grader for Using Wrong Pronoun for Transgender Student
An Ohio public school punished a sixth-grader after he used the wrong pronoun for a transgender student and told friends that the student “is a boy, not a girl,” according to the Christian legal group Liberty Counsel.
The school has since agreed to stop punishing students in similar circumstances, Liberty Counsel says.
At issue is a biological boy who identifies as a girl, according to a letter Liberty Counsel wrote to the school district. Names were redacted.
The incident occurred in art class on May 13, when a group of girls who had “enthusiastically” affirmed the transgender student’s identity began discussing the issue.
“The girls began talking about” the transgender student “taking girl hormones” and “eventually having his ‘male private parts removed,’ and that this would ‘make him a girl,’” according to the letter.
That’s when the sixth-grade student (“John Doe”) who was punished spoke up, saying, “No, he is a boy, and not a girl.” Another male student (Boy B) agreed, saying, “Yes, you are what you’re born with.”
John was not mocking the transgender student but was stating “what he truly believes” after “being subjected to the conversations of the girls all semester,” the letter said.
The art teacher overheard a portion of the conversation and reported the boys to the assistant…

Study: Americans Now View Churches More Positively than Tech Companies
A new Pew Research Center study has revealed that Americans have radically changed their opinions on tech companies.
Only 50% of Americans believe tech companies have a positive impact on society, compared to 71% only four years ago. This 21-percentage decrease is of little surprise in the wake of data privacy violations, fake news, and election interference perpetrated by Silicon giants such as Apple, Google, and Facebook.
“For many years, there was an inherent trust in technology companies because of the value their tools and services added to our lives,” said Jason Thacker, creative director and associate research fellow at the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, according to Christianity Today. “But as the data shows, that trust has been broken as the real impact of these tools are being widely felt.”
Meanwhile, churches only had a slightly higher approval rating at 52% of Americans. The study also noted that political affiliation strongly dictated the results with 68% of conservatives and 38% of liberals.
Thacker believes this is a positive direction for people to seriously consider technology consumption.
“As those who believe that all human beings are created in the image of God, Christians bring a unique perspective to these questions that I hope continues. We must not outsource our moral leadership to culture,” he…

300 Churches Have Teamed Up with World Relief to Fight Ebola
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has felt the bitter sting of the Ebola virus, and with the help of Christian nonprofit World Relief, 300 churches in the country are fighting back.
Director of humanitarian and disaster response at World Relief, Charles Franzen, talked with the Christian Post about the work happening in the Congo to create awareness of the infectious and dangerous virus.
“Through sermons and training with leadership councils and committees in the churches, Ebola messages are being spread across congregations,” Franzen said.
The churches are located in North Kivu, the Djugu territory, and Ituri Province, where the situation is most dire. Franzen shared that nearly 1,800 people have died in the area with more than 2,500 infected.
“…[B]ut the major problem in halting the disease is that medical personnel need to be able to trace every single contact that an infected person has had during his or her infective period,” he said.
People who have been in contact with the disease are put into quarantine until the danger is over or they start to show symptoms, in which case they are then treated.
But not only is finding all of those people difficult, relief workers are also facing disruptions between factions and tribes in the region.
“It is not then easy for us to trace all the known contacts of an infected person ‘behind the lines,’ so to…

Forced Abortion in North Korea: Pregnant Women Kicked, Held Down and Tortured, Report Says
North Korea’s nuclear program and prison camps often get the most attention from the media, but experts on the region say the nation’s horrific practice of forcing women to get abortions deserves more of a spotlight.
Forced abortions also are common in China, which is complicit in North Korea’s actions, according to a new report from Fox News.
North Korea even practices outright infanticide of babies after birth.
“Terrifying reports from female defectors depict undergoing forced abortions after they fled to what they thought was freedom in China, only to be repatriated back to North Korea by authorities in China,” Olivia Enos, senior policy analyst for Asian Studies at The Heritage Foundation,” told Fox News.
“Other women from North Korea recount having aborted babies born alive or giving birth in ordinary prison camps only to have border guards smother or drown their babies before their very eyes,” Enos added.
Dong Yon Kim, an analyst and journalist for Chosun News-Press, told Fox News women “are treated like an animal and have been put through forced abortions and it is done in many ways.”
“This is inhumane and a serious problem,” he said.
Kim told the story of a pregnant woman who tried escaping to China but was caught and returned. After North Korean authorities learned she was pregnant, she was…

Church urges Gov to ‘do everything in its power’ to save Titanic shipyard
Rt Rev Harold Miller, Bishop of Down and Dromore has spoken out as Harland and Wolff – the iconic Belfast shipyard that built the Titanic – is placed into administration.
A buyer for the struggling business couldn’t be found, and the government rejected calls for its nationalisation.
It means 125 jobs are at risk.
Calling for action, Bishop Harold said: “The insolvency of Harland and Wolff is a troubling development for the people of East Belfast and Northern Ireland as a whole.
“Harland and Wolff has played a central and iconic role in the province’s economy to date, and has shown innovation and resilience by adapting its business to the growth in renewable energy.
“The company has had an important role in passing on skills learned and built up over decades to a younger generation, which should not be lost.
“I encourage all in leadership to do everything in their power to secure the future of the company and for government to seek out new opportunities on behalf of its employees and their families.”
Workers at Harland and Wolff are said to be “digging in” to help avoid its collapse.
Unite regional organiser Susan Fitzgerald said: “We raised points that the workforce are here, they are digging in, this is a viable operation, there are contracts out there waiting to be won, work waiting to come in and on the basis of an…

Chance the Rapper Says His Wife’s Decision to Remain Celibate, Get Baptized Changed His Life Too
Hip hop artist Chance the Rapper has revealed that his life was completely transformed for the better following his wife’s faith-filled decision to abstain from sex and to get baptized.
The popular Chicago-based rapper opened up about his marriage on an Apple Music podcast, hosted by rapper, Nicki Minaj.
Speaking candidly about his wife Kristen’s decision to abstain from sex, Chance explained how her bold choice actually helped set him free from spiritual bondage. In a bid to further demonstrate the transformation, the rapper pointed the host to one of his tracks. “I need you to hear one song on my album that has my best verse that I written in my life,” he said. “It’s called ‘we go high.’”
“I explain that my wife literally saved my life by becoming celibate and going and getting baptized,” Chance added.
It was this radical decision that caused Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, to start taking his faith more seriously. “It changed her life, obviously. But we [are] talking about me right now. It changed my life, for real. Now I know exactly where my strength comes from,” he explained.
But this spiritual formation was not without heartache and pain. After releasing his 2017 Grammy-award winning album, Coloring Book, the pair separated for some much-needed time of healing and reflection.
“This is…

‘I’ve seen lives transformed and I’m thankful to God’
Around 3,000 youth workers and young people from over 100 nations are gathering at London’s Excel Centre this week for a celebration of the Christian charity.
Launched in London in 1844 by Sir George Williams to improve the spiritual condition of young men, the organisation grew to become the world’s oldest and largest youth movement.
It reaches 65 million people across 120 countries.
Speaking to Premier from the 175th anniversary event, Dr John Sentamu said: “In nearly 15 years I’ve been president of YMCA England I have seen lives of young people transformed.
“I’m ever so thankful to God for the work that the YMCA does.”
When asked about the message he’d like youth workers to be giving to young people in today’s society, he said: “They should be giving them joy, hope and love and telling them it doesn’t matter what circumstances you are going through – God, in the power of the holy spirit, is closer to us than our breath.”
