Trump Administration Expands Fast-Track Deportations, Gives ICE Agents More Authority
In a bid to further tackle the spiraling immigration crisis, President Trump has extended the authority of immigration officers to help them ensure the swift deportation of illegal migrants.
Commencing on Tuesday, fast-track deportations will now apply to anyone who has been in the country illegally for less than two years and will give law enforcement the power to deport migrants without allowing them to appear before judges.
Prior to the new measures being introduced, expedited deportations only applied to those who were detained near the border and had been in the US for less than a fortnight.
The acting secretary of Homeland Security, Kevin McAleenan, said the change was “a necessary response to the ongoing immigration crisis,” according to the BBC. He added that the new powers will ensure illegal aliens are deported faster than if they were to go through the Justice Department’s immigration courts, where cases can take years to process and resolve.
The Department of Homeland Security “expects that the full use of expedited removal statutory authority will strengthen national security, diminish the number of illegal entries, and otherwise ensure the prompt removal of aliens apprehended in the United States,” McAleenan explained, as reported by ABC News.
The US border patrol has made a staggering 688,375 apprehensions since October 2018…

Student told murder accused she wanted to leave their church, court hears
Shohfah-El Israel, 40, from Cricklewood, North London, is on trial at Reading Crown Court for the alleged murder of Joy Morgan.
The jury has heard that Ms Morgan has not been seen or heard from since attending a United in Christ church celebration dinner on Boxing Day last year.
Giving evidence on Tuesday, Israel admitted that he had allowed an “upset” Ms Morgan to stay at his Cricklewood home after the event.
The pair watched videos, ate dinner out and discussed issues affecting their church on December 27 and 28, the jury heard.
Israel said that during their conversations, Ms Morgan revealed she was “leaving the church” that he said had been hit by “controversy”.
He explained that after the church dinner, the plan had been to leave Ms Morgan with his wife at their home in Luton, before he went to stay at his other home in Cricklewood.
Israel described the student as “100% part of the family” who was like a “daughter” and frequently stayed at both properties.
But on December 26, Ms Morgan asked to be taken to her accommodation in Hatfield instead, Israel told the court.
He said he drove her there and on arrival she started “crying” and said she was “leaving”.
Ms Morgan, who was 20 years old when she disappeared, asked to stay at Cricklewood instead, but Israel said it was not a good idea.
“I was already breaking the rule by dropping her off,” he told the court.

‘I Did Not Prioritize Abortion Enough’: Former Planned Parenthood President Opens up about Her Firing in New York Times Op-Ed
Last week, it was announced the new president of Planned Parenthood, Dr. Leana Wen, had been fired from her high-profile post. In an opinion piece published at the New York Times, the physician cited “philosophical differences over the best way to protect reproductive health,” as the reason for her departure.
However, since then, many have speculated that the leading abortion provider may have forced Wen out of her job because she was keen for the organization to stop focusing solely on abortion and to take a more holistic approach in providing healthcare services to women.
Indeed, Wen herself noted that “there was immediate criticism that I did not prioritize abortion enough” after taking the job.
“While I am passionately committed to protecting abortion access, I do not view it as a stand-alone issue,” Wen wrote in the New York Times. “As one of the few national health care organizations with a presence in all 50 states, Planned Parenthood’s mandate should be to promote reproductive health care as part of a wide range of policies that affect women’s health and public health,” she added.
