4 Christians Executed in Burkina Faso for Wearing Cross Necklaces


Anti-Christian violence has continued to spread across the West African nation of Burkina Faso, with a further four believers shot dead in cold blood at the end of June. 


According to Christian Persecution charity Open Doors USA, on June 27, heavily armed militants were spotted entering the village of Bani with the aim of hunting down followers of Jesus. The small community was gripped with a paralyzing fear as the militants proceeded to order everyone to lie down.


Then, a search ensued. The terrorists had one clear mission: find those who claim Jesus as their Lord and savior. They searched tirelessly for anything that might identify the individuals as Christ-followers. Then, tragically, they succeeded—four men were found to be wearing crosses around their necks.


As soon as it became clear that these men were Christians, they were dragged away from the group and brutally executed. Their names were David Zoungrana, Philippe Zoungrana, Theophile Ouedraogo and Ernest Kassoaga.

Reverend says we must pray for Iranian leaders holding prisoner Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe asked to move for health reasons – but her family have raised concerns that she is being mistreated due to the ward being under the control of Iranian armed forces.

Her father tried to visit her in hospital on Tuesday but was repeatedly denied access.

Tensions have continued to grow between Britain and Iran following the recent seizing of an Iranian oil tanker off the coast of Gibraltar.

 

Reverend Lazarus Yeghnazar, President of 222 Ministries – a Christian organisation serving Farsi speakers in Iran told Premier the mistreatment of Nazanin by the Revolutionary Guard is sending a message to the UK government.

“The Revolutionary Guards who are virtually in control of every part of the government, their way of a dialogue is a forced reaction to certain incidents and I think they’re using poor Nazanin as a pawn in their hand so that they can release their tanker which is stuck in Gibraltar.”

Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was sentenced to five years in prison in 2016 after being accused of spying – a charge she has denied.

Both her and her husband, Richard, simultaneously protested in the form of a hunger strike against her detention and the UK has granted her diplomatic status, but Rev Lazarus thinks further action needs to be taken.

He said: “I think the West is not having a collective approach to the situation, there are many people in prison in Iran.

U.S. Women’s Soccer Goalie: People Who Are Not Accepting of Homosexuality ‘Don’t Belong’ on Team


A member of the U.S. women’s national soccer team says a fellow soccer player didn’t make the team because of her stance on homosexuality.


U.S. women’s team goalie Ashlyn Harris on Tuesday criticized Jaelene Hinkle, a soccer player for the North Carolina Courage of the National Women’s Soccer League who has been outspoken about her Christian faith. 


In 2017, Hinkle declined a spot on the U.S. women’s national soccer team because the team was requiring players to wear LGBTQ Pride Month jerseys. Her Twitter bio lists a Bible verse, Colossians 3:22. Her Instagram bio says she’s a “Daughter of Christ.” 


Although Hinkle received an invitation to the 2017 team, she did not make this year’s team that won the World Cup. Hinkle hasn’t commented on her absence, but Harris nevertheless took to Twitter to speak out by referencing a tweet from an unrelated person, Obianuju Ekeocha, who tweeted that the U.S. team “is not a very welcoming place for Christians” because of its exclusion of Hinkle.

Christian Climate Action and Christian Aid joined forces to hold a prayer vigil to reflect on how God’s creation is being treated.

Around 30 people took part and prayed, listened to readings and stories by vulnerable people threatened by what was described as a “climate change crisis”.

 

Melanie Nazareth from Christian Climate Action and Extinction Rebellion spoke to Premier from the event.

She explained why the vigil was so important: “We wanted to do this in the middle of the campsite because we really thought it was particularly important for our faith to be really visible.

“For us, faith without action is not the way that we would express our faith. But to do action and works without visibly expressing our faith is unsustainable.

“So we were there to sustain ourselves, but also to be a presence in the community.”

The campaign group Extinction Rebellion have held a number of protests across the capital recently in an effort to encourage the government to do more to deal with the issue of climate change.

While the protests have caused disruption to many commuters, Nazareth insisted that was a necessary price to pay.

The Christian view of sex before marriage took center stage an episode of ABC’s hit show “The Bachelorette” this week after a heated exchange between star Hannah Brown and contestant Luke Parker. The fallout from the episode spilled over to Twitter, with the two engaging in a debate about morality, sin, and judging.


The spat started when the show moved to Greece for “fantasy suite week” and each of the four remaining contestants went on a date with Brown. Parker had been open about his Christian faith throughout the show and about his desire to save himself for marriage, a conviction that he believed his future wife should share as well. During his date with Brown, Parker broached the subject again, saying that if she had sex with anyone else on the trip he would want to go home.


Brown, an Alabama native, grew angry with Parker and accused him of looking for the speck in her eye while ignoring the log in his own. She said, “You’re questioning me, you’re judging me and feel like you have the right to when you don’t at this point. I get when you care for somebody that you don’t want to think about somebody being intimate with another person. But guess what? Sex might be a sin out of marriage; pride is a sin, too. And I feel like this is a pride thing.”

This Saturday, the United States will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the moon landing, a magical time when people of different beliefs and backgrounds united in a cause greater than themselves. 

When Neil Armstrong planted an American flag on the moon on July 20, 1969, it signaled victory over the Soviet Union in a space race with religious and cultural overtones. 

Deana Weibel, an anthropologist who studies religion and space travel, wrote in The Space Review that “one of the strongest cultural contrasts between Americans and Soviets – one that was emphasized frequently in the U.S. – was that Americans were God-loving Christian people while the Soviets were ‘godless commies.’ 

This meant that space exploration became a competition between those who loved and feared God, and those who sought to defy God’s existence. Seen from within this framework, Americans were bound to win.” 

Weibel told a story about a Soviet cosmonaut being asked if he saw God in outer space. He said no. But American astronaut John Glenn responded, “My God is not so small that I would expect to see him in outer space.” 

‘In the name of national greatness’

The moon landing came in the midst of a tumultuous time: the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, and the riots of the Civil Rights era. Buzz Aldrin, who accompanied Armstrong on the Apollo 11 mission, said, “We needed this first moon landing to be a success . . . to reaffirm that the American dream was still possible in the midst of turmoil.”

President John F. Kennedy brought the country together in the early 1960s by appealing to its national pride and pioneering spirit.

Speaking in an emotional interview with television show Entertainment Tonight – just weeks after his wife’s death – Duane Chapman said he’s ready to join his late spouse whenever the time comes.

The reality star’s wife Beth was very open about her Christian faith and described her years-long battle with cancer, which ultimately ended her life, as the “ultimate test of faith”.

 

Chapman said his wife’s death helped him decide how he would want to die. He said he wanted the last words he hears to be those of Genesis 1:1, which reads: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

“Psychiatrists say, and the Bible says it, too, ‘time heals wounds’.

“After I’ve seen how she went slow, I said, ‘Lord, I’ve figured it out – I want to go fast, but you got to let someone at least read Genesis 1:1 to me’.

“All my staff has been advised, if something happens to me, I want to hear Genesis 1:1, so that I know that means to say, ‘Lord forgive me.'”

 

Chapman also revealed to the interviewer Kevin Frazier that he often puts pillows under the blankets next to him so that, if he wakes up in the middle of the night, he forgets his wife is no longer with him.

Commending his wife’s faith, Chapman said she often quoted Proverbs 18:21, which declares: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Hollyn Responds to Critics Who Claim She is No Longer “Singing for God”


Recording artist Hollyn addressed concerns about her faith after her new EP, Bye, Sad Girl, which is about a hard season in her life and does not explicitly mention God, was announced.


Fans grew concerned, making comments on social media that included “What happened why aren’t you singing for God anymore” and “start making songs about God again”, according to the Christian Post.


The 22-year-old singer and songwriter made a public statement to quell any fears. “It breaks my heart to read these comments because it’s a complete misinterpretation of this project, me, and the heart of God,” she said on Instagram. “The goal is vulnerability, the goal is connectivity, the goal is HEALING.” 


“Isn’t God in every aspect of our life? He is a God of process & God of hope,” she continued. “This project is my PROCESS towards inner healing. This project is God’s promise of HOPE spoken into my heart.” 


Three of the songs have been pre-released before the official release of the whole EP on September 6. Although they speak largely to processing after a relationship, Hollyn prays that her project helps with anyone struggling through difficult seasons or trauma.
