Does Taylor Swift’s New Music Video Generalize All Christians as ‘Poor and Dumb’?
A new music video by Taylor Swift that portrays Christian protesters as ugly, hillbilly-types while using celebrities to extol the virtues of the LGBT community is being called out for promoting the same sort of bullying the singer derides in her lyrics.
“You Need to Calm Down” is set in a trailer park and shows an angry mob holding signs that read: “Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve,” “Get a Brain Morans! and “Homasekuality is sin!” Those promoting the LGBT movement in the video include singer Katy Perry, TV host Ellen DeGeneres, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, transgender actor Laverne Cox, and the cast of Netflix’s “Queer Eye.” Also among them is R&B singer Ciara, a professing Christian.
Biblical scholar, Dr. Michael Brown, director of the Coalition of Conscience and president of FIRE School of Ministry, chided Swift in his own online video, saying the singer was bullying others for their beliefs.
“The fact is we want to love our neighbor as ourself,” he said. “The fact is we want to practice love and grace towards all and we want to be able to practice our religious faith, which says don’t coerce us into doing something that violates our conscience.”
He went on to mention specific cases in which Christians were discriminated against for exercising their religious or free speech rights.
“Are you comfortable with kids being…

Paula White Prays that ‘Every Demonic Network’ against Trump Would Be Broken
Prosperity Preacher and President Trump’s spiritual advisor Paula White kicked off Trump’s re-election campaign with a fiery prayer, asking God to eliminate “every demonic network” seeking to ruin Trump’s re-election next year.
“I pray for the spirit of the Lord to rest upon our president and let your favor cause his horn, his power to be exalted according to Psalm 89:17. Lord, your word says in Psalm 2:1-4, why do the nations conspire and the people plot in vain. The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed saying, let us break their chains and throw off their shackles,” she prayed at the Orlando rally to nearly 20,000 people, according to Christian Post. “… Father, you have raised President Trump up for such a time as this.”
She continued by asking God to reveal “the secrets” and “mystery of his will” to the president while surrounding him with “godly counsel.”
“I declare that President Trump will overcome every strategy from hell and every strategy from the enemy, every strategy. And he will fulfill his calling and his destiny,” she continued. “Let the secret council of wickedness be turned to foolishness right now in the name of Jesus.”
She concluded: “I secure his calling, I secure his purpose, I secure his family, and we secure victory in the name which is above…

China Forces Churches to Sing Songs Praising Communist Regime
China continues its war against the Christian faith by forcing churches to replace hymns and spiritual songs with those praising the country.
Earlier this year, the Chinese government required all believers to sing from Newly Compiled Hymns, a hymnal published by China’s Two National Christian Council. As reported by Bitter Winter, a magazine on religious liberty in China, the new required singing includes Bible chapters through a secular lens.
“The hymns published by the government only promote political, secularized content,” director of a Three-Self church in China said. “All believers are unwilling sing them.” One of the hymns reads: “China is beautiful; China is great; the sons and daughters of China love China. … Bless China, O Lord.”
“Such hymns aren’t praising the Lord at all,” the director continued. “They are entirely praising the country, and are no different from secular songs. Isn’t the government engaging in dishonesty and deceit?”
Last month, churches in Mudan district were required to create “Christian cultural activity centers.” These places will “write and perform Chinese operas and skits; form activity groups for painting and calligraphy, Chinese operas, fashion shows, and photography; incorporate local cultural characteristics into Christian traditions, and promote the ‘sinicization’ of…

Report on Birmingham church abuse allegations to be published
The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) has been looking at whether there were failings within the Roman Catholic Church, and held a series of hearings last year focusing on the archdiocese and allegations against four priests who served there.
The panel, chaired by Professor Alexis Jay, heard testimony from the Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who was archbishop of Birmingham between 2000 and 2009.
Cardinal Nichols, who is the leader of Roman Catholics in England and Wales, denied a child sex abuse survivor’s claim that he had suppressed a 1968 note relating to an alleged incident involving the late Father John Tolkien, son of novelist JRR Tolkien.
Panel members looked at the nature and extent of any failures by the church, the archdiocese, the police, or other public authorities to protect children from harm.
It also looked at the adequacy of the church’s response to such allegations, including what steps were taken in investigating, learning lessons, implementing changes and providing support to victims and survivors.

‘The Cross Does Not Offend the Constitution’ – Supreme Court Upholds WWI Memorial
The U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark religious liberty decision Thursday and let stand a 94-year-old cross-shaped war memorial that was at the center of a dispute between an atheist group and a veterans organization.
The court, in a 7-2 decision, ruled the 40-foot Bladensburg WWI Veterans Memorial – often called the Peace Cross – does not violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. It sits on public property in Bladensburg, Md., and was completed in 1925.
The justices did not overturn the so-called Lemon Test as requested by some religious liberty groups but did issue a new set of principles that could protect other historic religious-themed monuments from lawsuits.
“The cross is undoubtedly a Christian symbol, but that fact should not blind us to everything else that the Bladensburg Cross has come to represent,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the majority. “For some, that monument is a symbolic resting place for ancestors who never returned home. For others, it is a place for the community to gather and honor all veterans and their sacrifices for our Nation. For others still, it is a historical landmark.”
Tearing down the cross, Alito wrote, could be viewed as an unconstitutional hostile act toward religion.
“For many of these people, destroying or defacing the Cross that has stood undisturbed for nearly a…

Christian MP praises Premier and the Church’s efforts to tackle youth violence
Spelman, who acts as a link between the Church of England and the Government in Parliament, told members that a number of churches are actively involved in quelling the violence.
Speaking on behalf of the Church Commissioners she said: “The Church does use its community halls and facilities, particularly to reach out to young people – there are a number of examples of that.
“But also, specially, could I sight the work of Premier Christian Radio who broadcast from London and have raised awareness of this issue of youth violence and what the Church can do to help.”
She also insisted the Church does provide role models when asked by Daniel Kawczynski, Conservative MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham how the Church can help communities in this area.
“I think it’s very well known that the Church does provide role models for young people, such as youth workers in the community,” she said
“We work alongside young people in schools, in those youth groups, in congregations.
“Our clergy, teachers and members of our congregations are supporting young people who are at risk of getting caught up in violence and their families and supporting young people in referral units.”
Thousands of people have signed up to Premier’s ‘Peace on our Streets’ campaign, connecting with people to pray for young people in their towns and boroughs.
